    • Something's coming
Posting may be light, because I'm working on something big. In fact, I plan to do up a video presentation on a huge story that could destroy the Murdoch/Fox empire. No, I'm not talking about the phone hacking scandal. Think bigger. Much bigger.Actually, the real work was done by some very prestigious foreign news firms. What infuriates me is that no […]

    • Dutch Disease
It seems a lot of people don’t know what Dutch Disease is.  Here’s the short. Dutch disease is when you sell a lot of resources and that makes your currency increase in value.  So if you discover a lot of oil, or oil becomes a lot more valuable because of a shortage so that you [...]

Single-Payer day of action

It started (as near as I can tell) from a post at CorrenteWire, Pelosi aide begs for our faxes on single payer — send a fax for FREE right now linking to a site that makes it easy to send Nancy Pelosi (and other Congressional leaders) a FAX supporting Single-Payer health care:

My local single payer activist passes along the following:

It appears that Congressional leaders are being deliberately dismissive of single-payer to the point of ludicrous statements. It’s like they have put their fingers in their ears and are yelling “I can’t hear you, I can’t hear you.” Here they are in all their Congressional member glory:

Baucus a few days ago: “Everything BUT single payer is on the table. Single payer is off the table.”

Pelosi: “In our caucus, over and over again, we hear single payer, single payer, single payer. Well, it’s not going to be a single payer.”

Pelosi’s aide: “Where are the phone calls, e-mails and faxes in support of single-payer? Speaker Pelosi has been in favor of single-payer for a long time. Now make us do it.”

OK. We are up to the challenge. He wants to see the faxes. Let’s break their damn fax machines with the faxes.

And the challenge has been effective…. This morning’s update from 1Payer.Net is thrilling — The FAX machines were so swamped they actually shut down for some period of time!

But, here’s the truly genius idea – the Action Plan doesn’t stop with just one FAX message.  1Payer.NET has composed several messages so we can keep up the pressure sending multiple FAXes:

WIPEOUT!! WE DID IT!!
Keep up the pressure. Don’t stop now. Let them know what it feels like to be covered in red tape and paper. Let them know what happens when they ignore the voice of the American people. In the words of Cesar Chavez, stolen from him by the current occupant, ‘SI SE PUEDE.’

If you have sent the Pelosi fax already once or twice, then send the “I want Medicare for All Now” fax.

If you have sent the Pelosi fax and the I Want Medicare fax, then send the Stop Obstructing Health Reform fax.

If you have sent all of these faxes, then invite your friends to send faxes too.  Upload your address book here or just forward this email.  Everybody In, Nobody Out when it comes to blowing out Washington fax machines.

There is a place on the form to add your own personal message — to speak from your heart about what the Health Care crisis means to you and how it affects your family.

Please join CorrenteWire, CannonFire, and The Confluence as we make it clear to our Congressional leaders that we want Single-Payer health care to be discussed “at the table”.  Send your FAXes Now!

[UPDATE: For an explanation of the term "Single-Payer" see this article, "Single-Payer National Health Insurance" at Physicians for a National Health Program (which is a leading advocate of the Single-Payer solution)]

  1. I’m going to get my parents to do it now….

    • I sent three last night and 7 this morning! I also put it up on my blog and asked everyone I knew to do the same.

This is a unique opportunity Katie! We cannot allow this to die in so-called “Committee!”

      OT:

Thanks for your kind words on my site!

  2. Breaking News:Earthquake in Mexico City. 5.8 on the scale.

  3. Just did my part.

  4. First Swine flu now an earthquake….poor Mexico.

I think Karma is coming back on Pampers the financial crisis the Iraq/Afgan Crises now a health crisis…I believe the only institution being stress-tested now is the Oblahblah Administration…

Eventually he is gonna breakdown and start crying like a 6 month old baby…

I dont shed one tear for Pampers…not one.

    • He is a six month old baby in many respects, fuzzy – especially in the ego department.

  5. six million hits congradulation Conflunce and all my friends here!

like lee majors the front pages here are the 6 million hit (dollar) women and men!

  6. Great idea and easy to do. Just sent my three faxes.

  7. I sent my fax and I even sent them a small donation. Thanks for the links katiebird and for keeping us on top of this very important issue!

  8. Just sent off the first of two faxes – will send more throughout the day. Thanks to all who made Fax Day possible!

  9. Ok here is what PUMA should stand for. Taking our country back from Corporate America and the corrupt political parties. Ho do we take these people out? They have taken over our government.

  10. Thanks very much for posting this! Did it and will do the other two. Everyone else should too!!!

  11. I’m on it, Katiebird. Thanks for the heads up.

I love MA Blue’s daily news summary, too. I always learn something new here.

  12. Sent my fax, but kinda doubt that Pelosi cares what we think. Her constituency is big business not Americans.

    • Maybe the voters in her district care – they are real liberals.

      • Real liberals that voted her back into office overwhelmingly. I doubt she’s afraid. She’s run fairly unopposed despite her failure to hold Bush accountable on Iraq and her capitulation on FISA. Only poor Cindy Sheehan was willing to try and hold her accountable.

        • San Francisco is full of very affluent, token liberals who have nothing to lose by loudly declaring that they’re on the side of the angels. Pelosi is automatically on the side of the angels, because she calls herself a Democrat. It’s a closed circle.

    • Pelosi is in a very liberal district. The whole think may be truly driven by her constituency.

  13. I don’t see the link to the explanation of what “single-payer” is jargon for.

  14. Thanks for this. Just sent my faxes. As someone working in health care who can’t afford it for myself, single-payer would make the single largest improvement in my life.

  15. Could someone send a fax for me?

Are we doing anything via e-mail, cause I could join in on that?

  16. Faxed!

  17. I did mine! Thanks for the link, Katiebird.

  18. Okay, faxes sent, became a fan of Health Justice, and put the links onto my Facebook page with a challenge to other Yanks to get off their complaining butts and DO SOMETHING about fixing health care in America!

(Sorry, but I’m pretty passionate about this. One of the reasons I’m not coming back to the States to work anytime soon is because the system is broken – not just for patients but also for us doctors.)

  19. I sent a fax from the Corrente link earlier today, but thanks for the info on the 2 additional faxes !!!

Going there to send those two additional puppies now!

  20. Hey folks – I have a 24/7 updated hourly news site completely devoted to the single payer movement. Please subscribe, use, et al. This is a great place to start for newbies getting into action – links there to all organizations working on this, state legislation for all of the states, the national bills, etc. etc. and besides our blog, we also are running feed from Twitter re single payer posts.

    I sent my fax yesterday.

Also, ANYBODY HERE who wants to join with me and others in trying to attend those Wellpoint phoney grassroots’ meetings where they’ll try to convince seniors, et al to protect the private insurance industry, let me know.

    singlepayercentral@gmail.com

LET’S GET THIS JOB DONE – let’s get those bills passed and not let ourselves be railroaded yet again by the private insurance industry. THIS time is different – we have better tools today (and a lot more people without healthcare today).

  21. Thanks for the link, SP Central.

Here is my fax — well this was the 7th, I think…

Pelosi: “In our caucus, over and over again, we hear single payer, single payer, single payer. Well, it’s not going to be a single payer.”

Ms. Pelosi, It seems in Congress and elsewhere I hear over and over again, affordable health coverage, affordable health coverage, affordable health coverage…Well For most Americans there will not be “affordable” health coverage until there is single payer UHC.
    Period.

  22. [...] check out Physicians for a National Health Plan or Single Payer Central.  Cannonfire, Corrente, The Confluence and PUMA Pac, among others, have all sounded the alarm and gotten a great response.  Now [...]
