Palin Derangement Syndrome, will we ever find a cure???

First of all I saw this on CNN’s political ticker (they always do their Palin stories on the ticker so that people can comment):

The mainstream media made it a mission to destroy the vice presidential candidacy of Sarah Palin, the Alaska governor says in a new documentary released Monday.

In an interview taped last month for conservative John Zeigler’s new film “Media Malpractice,” Palin said it is “very frightening, I think, what the media was able to get away with, this go-around.” …

“This is for the sake of our democracy that there is fairness in this other branch of government, if you will, called the media,” Palin also says in the interview filmed in January. “It is foreign to me the way some in the mainstream media are thinking.”

It’s always a joy to read the comments after Sarah gets mentioned like this. And don’t think that CNN doesn’t know and approve these comments. Mine have been moderated away in seconds, and I’ve never used any kind of language approaching this:

Kimmi February 23rd, 2009 1:07 pm ET

OMG, poor Sexy Sara. Had to be the media ruining her. Maybe someone should buy this bitch a mirror or a tape of her and her freeloading family. Wonder if her new grandbaby is on welfare yet????

Aren’t Obamacrats wonderful? such respect for women. Oh, and do you think if anyone dared to mention Obama and welfare in the same breath we wouldn’t have Al Sharpton and the race police on us in seconds….

Sadly PDS is a widespread illness affecting even the brightest of the blogging elite.  Glenn Greenwald used to be a voice of sanity in these crazy times, but seems even he can’t resist going to the well of Sarah hate now and again…(h/t myiq2xu)

But now, only four weeks into the presidency of Barack Obama, they are back — angrier and more chest-beating than ever. Actually, the mere threat of an Obama presidency was enough to revitalize them from their eight-year slumber, awaken them from their camouflaged, well-armed suburban caves. The disturbingly ugly atmosphere that marked virtually every Sarah Palin rally had its roots in this cultural resentment, which is why her fear-mongering cultural warnings about Obama’s exotic, threatening otherness — he’s a Muslim-loving, Terrorist-embracing, Rev.-Wright-following Marxist: who is the real Barack Obama? — resonated so stingingly with the rabid lynch mobs that cheered her on.

Lynch mobs?  That’s some pretty loaded language there Glenn.  You should be more careful.  Unlike Glenn, I actually WENT to a Sarah Palin rally.  Here’s some pictures of the “Lynch Mob”

  1. Excellent post, Gary. I wish I could understand why these freaks are so worried about Palin. What are they afraid of?

    • As with Clinton, she might win.

      • Actually, the Palin hatred stretched beyond the Obama folks…almost every Hillary supporter I personally knew who decided to vote for the “D” (despite how much they couldn’t tolerate him during the primary) went after Palin with the same irrational anger. Somehow the channels they were watching and radio voices they were listening to convinced them she was going to take women back to the days of religious subservience.

        • Replying very late to this, but Bingo!

My Mom, who about whipped me when I told her she was acting like a misgynist, hates Palin.

She says Palin reminds her of the church ladies of her youth (Mom was raised in a strict Mormon family). She’s terrified of her. Eventually I got Mom to agree that acting Palin over her choices as a mother, her looks, her voice, her.. whatever was wrong. But she still hates her.

What got her to finally admit it was wrong was when Palin was attacked for carrying Trig to term. My sister is severely autistic. I guess that attack hit my mother in some primordial place and made her start to think.

    • I don’t know that they’re really worried. I think it’s just fair game for the leftist woman haters. They’re having a good time. It’s fun for them — makes them feel like REAL men.

      • This is right on. All those years of repressed misogyny — when they had to pretend to care about all those icky girl things — like feminism and health care and the social safety net, and choke back their sexism (“it’s just a joke, honey! Don’t you have a sense of humor?“). This year they could let it all rush out in a mass of misogynistic rage, with smirking validation from the very top, and the happy collusion of the cable-free enablers like Howard Dean, even the imprimateur of feminist Queen Gloria Steinem.

    • They’re afraid of anyone who might make the newly selected emperor’s raiment, not to mention that of his adoring fans, look a tad threadbare in the ideology department. In other words: no challenges, no differences, no discussion allowed. If we have little real faith in or understanding of our own beliefs, anything that challenges them is automatically the work of evil heretics.

    • Interesting that Gary should bring this up. I just watched this video of Zeigler on Morning Joe, which I recommend to you all:

      http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3036789/#29349184

Make sure you watch the end of the video where Pat Buchanan asks his question. Look at Joe Scarborough chickens out and doesn’t let him answer.

      • Maybe PUMAs could host house parties to watch this film (Media Malpractice) and live blog it. :)

        • Sounds Great!
I was on a conference call with him. He’s hoping we set up viewing gatherings in our communities.
Connecting it to a Live Blog would be fun.
Someone could probably get him on one of our shows as well.

      • Saw that ghost. You know what struck me is the question about Sarah was treated the first three days after she was presented as VP pick. And then Mika tries to make some comment about her doing herself in with her interview by Couric. I might be messed up on the timing, but didn’t Sarah get “presented” on a Fri? I’m fairly certain this was the case since that very next day on Sat I saw headlines questioning if Trig was actually her son and not her daughters, and showed pics of Palin with critiques that she hadn’t looked pregnant during the past year in our local frickin newspaper. Yeah, very valid criticism Mika.

The point is the media never went after Obama for major fups like suggesting we go to the UN Security Council for a vote to solve the Georgia crisis, or when he kept referring to other committee’s he wasn’t even on as “his committees”, notwithstanding the 57 states remark, and not knowing where the frickin Great Lakes are when he’s been living next to one for the majority of his life.

        • Yes, she was presented on a Friday, then the disgusting Orange cesspool bloggers went after her and her family, and peddled the bullshit. Media, of couse, all flew to Wasilla to do the vetting they had never done on a presidential candidate for 2 years. Then Palin hit it out of the Park in the GOP convention. (Zeigler says that Joe Scarborough predicted that media will go after her. I would have agreed then. There was no way they were leaving their Chosen One to fend for himself).

She was still doing well with public, but then the financial crisis hit, and media manufactured and peddled, “McCain is an old-erratic man versus the Cool One (TM)”. There was, of course, the hoopla over her clothes (a scrutinty that never was extended to Obama’s fundraising, spending, or Michelle’s clothing).

You see, when Palin spends money on clothes, (or GOP for her) she is being ambitious and overstepping the bounds of propriety. When Michelle spends, she is a fasion icon, and the next Jackie O. There was this slobbering article the other day saying that we should all learn a couple of things from Michelle, since she was seen to wear her Jimmy Choo shoes again.

          O, the humanity!

    • As with Clinton, she is a commoner – not one “of our people” – that from the media – including some GOP-ers like Safire and Kristol who were OK with W but suddenly had aversion to “anti-intellectualism”
That comment in your entry could have came from the freepers re: any liberal. Edpecially the “freeloaders” part. Through the looking glass!

      • anti-intellectualism, my ass.

What it is is the genuine repulse normal people feel at the shit peddled by elite. For example, David Sirota and Josh Marshall fit the bill for this kind of ‘intellectual”s. What they really are are morally bankrupt people who speak the same language and fit in with the Village People.

      • Yes, the vicious, class-based tone of “Kimmi’s” comment is very unsettling. On the other side of this particular looking glass, we find a David Duke fan reflected. Scary stuff.

  2. Interesting, also, how they qualfy “Media Malpractice” as a ‘conservative’ film.

They still think that if they shout loudly enough that PUMAs do not exist, it will make it true.

Sorry, boyz. We aren’t going anywhere.

    • Are the PUMA organizing from the more local levels, or only National via the blogs?

  3. actually, as I said to myiq below, if those people glenn was talking about HAD gone out to vote, Obama would have lost. They either stayed at home or voted FOR him…

I don’t agree with much I heard at that rally, but there was nothing racist, just your standard repub red meat “they’re gonna raise your taxes” stuff.

  4. The moderating on CNN and other MSM sites is interesting. I have made comments that never made it out of moderation too.

That CNN comment is so wildly offensive. I might expect that sort of thing from MSNBC – those kind of comments probably help to sell Viagra…

  5. If our comments take a while to appear, does that mean we’re in moderation? Or does it mean that wordpress is experiencing hiccups?

  6. Bob Somerby documents the atrocities:

Post to rubes: Look over here! Truly, you have to laugh at the Washington Post’s page 3 lay-out this morning. The message couldn’t be more obvious. Post to rubes: Look over here!

Quite literally, the entire top half of the page is consumed by “The Monday Fix,” penned by Cillizza and Bacon. In part, the feature consumes such a large chunk of space because it includes a very large photograph—a head shot of Sarah Palin. The photo stretches across three full columns, out of five. We’d estimate that it consumes about forty percent of the total space burned by The Fix. (You can see the photo at the link above. You can’t see how ginormous it is in the hard-copy paper.)

What’s so odd about that photo? Just this: Palin plays almost no role in the actual, 1200-word feature. She’s mentioned in only one sentence—and that sentence is literally parenthetical. It appears inside parentheses, at the end of paragraph 5. Let’s quote: “(One notable absence: Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee…)”

That’s right. In a detailed, 1200-word feature, Palin rated exactly one sentence—because she didn’t attend an event. But a photo editor’s thinking was clear. Hey rubes! Pretty please! Over here!

Just last week they were complaining that she won’t go away, now they’re complaining that she stayed home.

    • They know she sells papers and magazines, and for that they are going to exploit the heck out of her.

      • I bet she would sell more papers and magazines than BO, especially if there was positive coverage.

Maybe if the msm gets desperate enough, they will have to choke out some love for SP.

Not going to hold my breath on that….

  7. BTW – I love the video

    • If you’d chosen nesting, you could’ve qualified for a free Xanax and quilt, myiq! And also made clear to the rest of us (w/o scrolling) which video you were referring to.

(Sitting here dreading the comeback…one thousand one, one thousand two, one thousand three… Fire away!)

  8. The video misses the important development – that Cheney renamed the whole thing – it is now “Go Cheney Yourself”

  9. Gary:

You may want to link to this video:

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3036789/#29349184

    • i’m glad they find the destruction of our democracy by the media so amusing. That video makes me want to puke. Mika, sweetie, there’s a special place in hell waiting just for you…

      • I really don’t know why Joe Scarborough has to tolerate Mika B. I mean sometimes he and Pat Buchanan are way off in their opinion, but they are intelligent. There are times that they can drive me mad (usually their liberal opponents are too stupid to call them on it), but then sometimes, Pat and Joe hit the nail so right on it’s a thing of beauty.

Mika is just dumb. She never has a memorable opinion.

  10. I agree the misogynist liberal Democrat men just really enjoy a good woman bash and Palin is some sort of code word to ramp up the hate. And the vapid liberal women are unable to accomplish anything in life except making excuses for their men so the whole Palin derangement syndrome works for them too.

  11. I guess Glenn took another swig of kool-aid. That part gary quotes is a lie, but who is going to challenge him?

  12. I think we all agree that she was treated most unfairly as a woman, a mother, a wife, a politician during this campaign. This much is a given.

It’s a fantasy but I wish they would all go away.

  13. Of course you do know that by not having an irrational fear of Sarah Palin you are in fact a rac ist. In fact, by not being afraid of any powerful woman or even of lady parts, you must be a rac ist.

I do appreciate how simple life has become under our new president. We again are in the world of white hats vs. black hats, good guys vs. bad guys, rac ists vs. non rac ists. And it’s very, very easy to tell them apart. It reminds me of the 80′s under Reagan. It’s good to not have to think again. More relaxing that way. :-)

  14. The media and this administration together will make the gov’t in this country something we no longer recognize within the first 4 years if people don’t get serious about protesting.

The media needs to be turned off. But, they are watched, linked to, and quoted over and over again across the internet. All that time and energy would be so much more effective if it was spent putting those morons out of business and replacing them with true journalism. The people who run the media are getting exactly what they want and won’t stop until the money stops coming in.

  15. You know what stuns me is I had hopes for some women’s issues actually getting worked on by a newly motivated women’s network created by the liberal misogyny so evident in this last election. But all I see these women’s orgs doing is repeating the same stupid tail chasing exercises that the East coast women’s movement has been doing for the last 20 years. They are busy categorizing victims, working on gay marriage and hate crimes legislation. Well Murder, Rape, Assault and Arson are illegal and have been for centuries. They don’t need to be re criminalized. And I am curious what are some of the positive thoughts that go through a criminals mind when he assaults and murders a white man? Because apparently the criminal is not thinking hateful thoughts otherwise he would be committing a hate crime. And Gay marriage, it is not a women’s movement issue. Todays women’s groups can not even set their own agenda of issues and accomplish anything towards resolving them. It is pathetic. Equal pay for equal work, parity in government representation and media images of women and consumer rights relative to media are causes that would benefit all women. But I guess the new women’s movement is waiting for permission from gay men and men of color before they begin to work on those issues. I could PUKE.

    • Constance, you might want to click on 51% at the top of this page on the right side – You’re absolutely right NOW and other women’s groups have lost all credibility because they’ve accomplished nothing – they had the opportunity to raise their visibility and take a stand many times during the election but they didn’t. Please join with us to make our stand – 51% of the population is made up of women, black, brown, white, red, yellow, old, young, tall, short, fat and thin women – we need to start standing up for ourselves and each other – because women’s rights are human rights -

    • Er, there are gay women. They’re known, colloquially, as ‘lesbians’.

The history of anti-gay rage and misogyny are deeply, deeply intertwined. it’s a huge topic, which I don’t have time to detail now, but the divide and conquer strategy has always been sadly effective by opponents of equality for both gay people and women. So please, throttle back on the rage and try to concentrate on ways that the two (overlapping) groups can cooperate to overcome the similarity in oppression, rather than pushing the divisions.

I was pretty deeply disappointed in the rush to Obama by the GBLT communities this year, and the misogyny coming from some leftie gay men particularly. But the solution is not to play along with the equality opponent’s slice and dice strategy, it’s to figure out the commonalities and build up from there.

    • Um.. I think gay marriage is a women’s issue. There are gay women who want to marry each other, and there are plenty of mothers who love their gay sons and daughters. As long as any group is held down, none of us is free.

  16. Hello, Gary.
Parade mag did a vile Worst-Best politics 2008 and Jonathan Alter named the hatred at Palin rallies with the cries of “Kill ‘im” at the mention of Obama as the worst. Well, yeh, that might have been the worst except it friggin never happened. There has been not one substatiation of this by the Secret Service, state police, or any attendees except for one biased reporter at one event.
But the lie keeps getting retold. And not one damn person in the Parade Palin/McCain hit piece remotely mentioned any misogyny in 2008. Not one. A lie of omission.

  17. I was trying to make a point in class regarding two murderers whose IQs were very high (long story, but see Leopold and Loeb). B/c all my students are on Facebook, I asked if anyone had seen the ads telling us BO’s IQ. They had, 130. What about Sarah Palin? I asked. Someone yelled out, Zero! Now, I don’t think FB has the inside scoop on people’s IQs (MySpace has BO’s at 124) but FB says 110, which puts her in the “superior” range. Let’s see, she is also governor of a state. I never hear anyone refer to Blago as stupid or having a zero IQ but some people can’t tell you enough times how dumb Sarah Palin is. If she’s so bad, how come it’s her signature on a gay rights bill but Obama has yet to do that?

    • They have no idea what these politician’s IQs are. These sources are just playing their part in the disinformation campaign.

      • The facebook IQ test is pretty ridiculous and if anyone who takes it scores lower than 100, they shouldn’t have graduated from high school.

  18. BO is the leader of the profoundly vapid.

  19. My hope is that the “cure” will be a Palin presidency. That would really make some fauxgressive heads explode.

  20. Any female president will make heads explode.

  21. If she is smart, she is a b!tch.
If she is personable, she is stupid.
If she cries, she is a whiner.
If she has one child, she is cold.
If she has four kids, she has too many to do the job.

May as well face it, she is gonna have to campaign in drag and never let anyone know she is a woman.

  22. I got into a huge argument with my mother a couple of months ago after she called Sarah Palin a “dummy.” What’s strange about that is that my mother is not college-educated, nor is she a liberal. Though she’s a Democrat, she tends to be very conservative on social issues and from West Virginia. I would have thought that she would be sensitive to “hick” stereotypes and receptive to Palin’s stance on social issues. So the overwhelmingly negative bias of the major media outlets must have influenced my mother (despite my pleas to her to ignore them) and quite possibly others like her.

    • Jules- I think we underestimate the influence that a constant barrage of ‘political speak’ has on the average American. My mother started the election-cycle not liking Hillary because she was such a bi tch, but came to love her. At the end, she voted for Obama to save Roe and Social Security, as every Democrat is required to do.

  23. The USA has missed a golden opportunity to stand up against sexism and misogyny. Instead it has embraced it with the MSM and Obamanation leading the way, and continues to do so. How incredibly embarassing this is for our country. We know that the Dems will not support a woman candidate and it looks like the Repubs will be pushing Jindal as their choice next time around. How long will we continue to be second class citizens?

  24. Hahaha. I was trying to think of a way to respond “politely,” but what’s the point. You’ve pretty much summed it all up! Obviously this person either didn’t read the original post or read it while listening to “Dreams of My Father” on tape.

  25. New thread up

  26. Palin committed a cardinal mistake; she came out of the gate kicking Obie in the nutz. Like Tucker Carlson re: Hillary, all the men subconsciously crossed their legs and swore vengeance.
Of course, I’m speaking in analogous generalities, but when Palin came out swinging at the convention, and scored, she might as well have painted a target on her forehead. Not her fault, and, in a fair world, not a bad strategy. Nonetheless, that’s what I think happened.

    • You could be right but I think the so-called progs response to Sarah is because she is a remarkably charismatic politician. She has the rare talent of a Reagan or a Bill Clinton and that scares the living shit out of them.

      • ITA, RalphB.

And a lot of people are still not paying attention. They underestimate her because they believe the smear campaign. Let’s hope they’re all in for a big surprise in 2012.

  27. the market closed down and the Dow is just a hair of 100 pts over 7000 everyone is cashing in their chips….I see 6000 by Obama’s 100th day in office….what I nice vote of no confidence from wall street GE the blue blood of the blue chips can be had for $ 8.85 per share about the price of a Starbucks mocha chino frapa latte!

Mr Pampers When all else fails try Leadership when leadership fails try Resignation….

With no due respect Pampers You are not cut out to handle this job so admit it and go home…..

You can not fake it till you make it sir….

There is more to being president than a neeto plane and a jacket with a seal on it ….

  28. I am wondering how popular is Obie-wan….err ummm Pampers really?

  29. Timely post. In today’s mail I received a beg from the NRDC that began, “This month Governor Sarah Palin and some of America’s biggest polluters…” and ends with “P.S. While the polar bear faces a formidable adversary in Governor Palin…”.

I do not like the idea of drilling in Alaska, and I do want to protect the polar bears. But Gov. Palin spoke of drilling in the campaign so her support comes as no surprise. What I object to is the verbiage of the letter, the picture they are painting with their choice of words.
Governor Palin and her industry allies
Governor Palin’s cruel attack on the polar bear.
And from the Robert F. Kennedy enclosure:
Do you trust Sarah Palin with the fate of the polar bear
    even before the governor’s attack
Governor Palin’s merciless attack on the polar bear
    fight back against Governor Palin

I picture her, cleaver in hand, hacking the bears to death. But then I guess fear and anger are useful tools in fund raising.

    • They seem to have no trouble chopping down trees to send you junk mail. Why do they hate the beautiful forests?

      • Poplicola– If you revisit this I love your comment. I have written to these groups asking that my name be removed because they send too many mailings. Even dropped my Sierra Club membership, telling them that there was too much paper and that I would send contributions when I could, but would not send anything if I continued to receive the mailings. Did that stop them? No.

  30. Part of the threat Palin represents is her proven record of cleaning out corrupt public officials. Looking at the current government it is no surprise that they are terrified of her. She get results, taking out crooks in all parties, not just when its politically expedient.

  31. Agree Gary, it was out of control. The misogyny was so obvious, regardless of one’s politics.

Couple of things struck me about the obot media reaction to Palin during the election. One, Palin was able to go after Barry in a way Hill never could because of her allegiance to the party. Two, Palin proved in Minneapolis that she could be dynamic and appeal to working men and women, without the use of a teleprompter. The obot media was at first stunned, then they went nuts. Why would someone intelligent like Rachel Maddow feel so threatened by Palin. Was it really about her politics. Were Palin’s positions really that different from say someone like Gillibrand. Was Palin really not as articulate as Barry. Palin is no Hillary. But she did not deserve the rabid, contrived coverage from the left media, imo.

  32. I also went to a Palin rally. It was the most postive, uplifting experience. The only negative was the Obama supporters that infiltrated the event and tried to cause problems.
