From Big Tent Democrat (Armando Llorens) at TalkLeft:
F— me. Obama betrayed Congressional Democrats fighting for the best bill for the economy and the country. Obama fought for spending cuts and GOP tax cuts! Obama the triangulator! It is indeed the era of Nelson, Collins and Obama! The Beltway “Bipartisan” BSers got their man – and his name appears to be Barack Obama.
The “Beltway “Bipartisan” BSers” that BTD is referring to are the Village Idiots, aka the Beltway media. During the primaries, BTD supported Obama because that same media loved him. So is BTD ashamed and apologetic?
He’s the only guy we got now (5.00 / 5) (#72)
by Big Tent Democrat on Sat Feb 07, 2009 at 11:16:13 AM ESTSo he is your guy too.
I made my choice in the primary.
I’ll take my brickbats for it.
We’re all fucked, but he’s not my guy, BTD, he’s yours. You own him.
People like me who tried to tell you and Jeralyn that Obama was a disaster waiting to happen got banned from your blog.

UPDATE:
TChris adds a dash of Kool-aid induced denial:
The Obama campaign made clear the candidate’s belief that the political process is one of compromise, and that “change” meant working to get things done in contrast to the GOP’s polarizing “our way or no way” strategy of governance. Obama even used the “perfect is the enemy of the good” quotation during the campaign.
There are legitimate reasons to question the wisdom of some comprises to which Senate Democrats have agreed, but the president’s willingness to indulge compromise in a pragmatic effort to pass a stimulus bill should surprise none of his “liberal followers.”
I guess TChris thinks “pragmatic” means “selling out the people who elected you and getting nothing in return.”

So true, MyIQ — everything you’ve said: Fvck BTD.
I got in a fight with an old high school friend after a note he posted on facebook (He’s hoping “Kathleen” will become secretary of HHS). This is the last thing he said in a string of 17 comments:
“If Kathleen or Howard don’t take it, I will. Although as Catharine points out, it might not be wise for a “long time politician” like me to try to convince a Congress that only enacts legislation based upon consensus and compromise. If you had noticed, Obama is a middle of the roader who is going to reach out to the other side to bring them along. You elected “a politician” not Ralph Nader.”
This guy has known me since I was 15 years old and he thought that I voted for Obama? I laughed and laughed at him.
Is it too early to say don’t blame me I wrote-in Hillary? That pic really says it all. What a pompous, self-involved airhead.
If you’re negotiating with someone and you start high and he starts low, you settle somewhere in between.
You – 10
Him – 1
Settle – 5
If you start at 5 you settle at 2 1/2
2 1/2 = pragmatic

How come no one ever means us when they talk about “working with the other side” — it’s like they think we’re so far-out there’s no point in pretending to work with us? What have we got here? Scientists, librarians, attorneys, economists, business people, retirees, students, academics — hardly a hotbed of radical extremists.
Except I guess we are….
moobs short for man-boobs
Do ya think he has sensitive nipples?
(shiver) Ok, NOW, I’m grossed out.
Katiebird, they don’t have to apologize to the other side, and they’re too petty and power hungry to apologize to us. That would undermine everything they are. If we’re right, they’re slime.
Bill Clinton’s method of “triangulation” (which the proggers hated) was to calculate the spot halfway between the Congressional Dems and Reps and try to bring both sides together there.
He didn’t use that position as a starting point.
The still kool-aid intoxicated TChris is not finding a lot of support for his delusions in the comments. At that POS blog, I am surprised that the mod isn’t banning people “right and left”.
What pisses me off is that right now the Democrats should be steamrollering the GOP and they’re acting like they are in the minority.
TChris was always an dumb ass. It’s about time the Democrats have a President who uses the “our way or no way” strategy. Hillary would’ve been the mean, anti-Republican biotch we need right now to push a stimulus plan that would’ve actually worked. Like so many of the Obots still in denial, TChris believes that unity can be achieved with the ones who f*cked us over. The only ones who should be defending this are the Repugs and the Libertarians who voted for Obama precisely because they didn’t want someone with the guts to hold the Right accountable for their crimes.
At that POS blog
I thought about re-registering under a new alias, but I would just get banned again.

“Democrats should be steamrollering”
I think the last thing Obama wants is a supermajority in the Senate. He’s hiding behind the threat of a filibuster and the blue dogs.
And why must he hide? Because he’s not a “progressive” Democrat.
What a nightmare. Everything is melting away and we don’t have anyone standing up for us.
“our way or no way”
Somewhere in the comment threads of BJ from 2007 I said that the newly elected Dem majority in Congress should be introducing popular legislation (UHC, end the war) on a daily basis and forcing the GOP to kill it.
I was objectifying and slut-shaming again
Clearly.
But I don’t care if your target is Obama.
I don’t know what BTD is complaining about. He wanted someone who he thought was “most electable”, even if not a perfect liberal (if there is such an animal). Well, guess what….? You got what you pushed for and you own him. He might be the person who was elected as President of the US by the most (foolish) voters. My support is for the office of the President, not for the specific person who is holding the office. That has always been, ever since I was brought in to the service way back when.
If you voted for the “personality” and marketed image, he’s yours.
I voted for someone else, twice (in the primaries and the general) because I do not “believe” in this person. Not as qualified or experienced enough to do the job well. Not as a real Democrat. Not even as someone I would want to buy a car from, let alone manage my national budget.
As for the Democratic party? Since they pushed this person on us, most of their mail now goes straight to the circular file.
I am lying low and just hope to survive the next 4-8 years.
the last thing Obama wants is a supermajority in the Senate
The dirty little secret is that Obama can’t even count on all the Democrats to bust a filibuster.
Not that he wants to.
I am lying low and just hope to survive the next 4-8 years.
That’s what I’ve been doing the LAST 8 years
How can it be triangulation when BZero has majorities in Houses of Congress? It was triangulation for the Big Dawg because he was trying to navigate amongst the Newt and poots.
For BZero it isn’t triangulation, it is “linearism” — he just keeps veering to the right picking up wayward adoring hitchhikers.
Those who call him contemplative might be correct, you’d have to think long and hard to screw that up.
“I said that the newly elected Dem majority in Congress should be introducing popular legislation (UHC, end the war) on a daily basis and forcing the GOP to kill it.”
I was saying this at DailyKos during the same time. It would have set up the Democratic Platform for success. And maybe that’s why they didn’t do it.
Myiq, the Spokesmodel in Chief is not going to end the war without finding another or give us UHC. The companies that hired him wouldn’t let him if he tried. If they thought he might, somebody else would be president.
I got banned at that POS blog myself. My last crime was accusing Jeralyn of being “batsh!t insane” when she went into the PDS full bore.
Oh and you’re too right, Fvck BTD and TChris. TChris for being an over the moon kool-aid swiller and BTD for supporting somebody simply because he was a “media darling”.
When the MSM loves a candidate that makes him poison for the rest of the country and Armando should know that.
Fvck that POS blog anyway, you guys are all much brighter and, while I don’t comment a lot, I read here every day. Keep the faith!

Sorry to be even more pessimistic but I think what we are in store for will be much worse than what we’ve experienced the last 8 years. It took 8 years for Bush to put into motion policies that have ultimately destroyed the economy, our safety, and our constitutional rights. We have only begun to experience the real aftereffects of Bush’s negligence. Not only that, we are about to go through this with an inexperienced triangulator in charge who will apparently follow in Bush’s footsteps to look post-partisan.

For years I wished the Democrats would fight the good fight, even if they lost.
Over the last couple years I realized they don’t WANT to win.
The Democrats are like the Washington Generals (the team that played the Harlem Globetrotters) – they are paid to lose.
Actual unemployment rate 13.9%: Merrill Lynch
Counting the ranks of “underemployed” as a result of cutbacks on hours, the unofficial rate hit the highest level in at least 15 years, according to economist David Rosenberg

You’d think Obama would at least respond to ridicule. With his huge ego is he going to be able to deal with being a laughing stock? It’s not going to take much long for that to happen at this rate.
Does anybody really think corporate America supports the two-party system? I’ve had a feeling since Bushbaby was installed we’re looking at a UniParty in disguise.
Even Andrea Mitchell says that the administration is coming down off the “sugar rush” of the inagural festivities,
I hear Obama played Pelosi!!! The problem is that Obama and the republicans took the wrong things out of the bill. The additional tax cuts for the wealthy is what had to go, not the services for the poor and struggling working class. The tax cuts should have been replaced with job creations projects. The notion that only 15% to 18% of the so called stimulus is for job creation while 42% – 45% is criminal! Once again, we see a prime example of why the corporate media rammed Obama down our throats.
I heard somewhere today that the GE chairman is now on the economic advisory board. Go figure.
ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Antigua’s prime minister wants to rename the island’s highest mountain peak “Mount Obama” in honor of the U.S. president. “Boggy Peak,” as it is currently known, soars more than 1,300 feet over the island’s southern point and serves as a transmission site for broadcast and telecommunication providers. It also is a popular hiking spot.

I am afraid that maybe you were bamboozled, as were many of us (myself included) into believing most of your life that the Democrats could fight a “good” fight; that somehow they were better, morally superior so-to-speak, than their Republican brothers and sisters. They were the party for the underdog, the poor, the downtrodden. They were the voice for those who had no voice of their own. Or so we thought.
I do owe nancy pelosia thank you though, she has helped open my eyes to what the democratic party really has become. There is no “one America”; there are a few thousand lobbyists and millions of special interest groups and 2 dysfunctional political parties.
We are so royally screwed.

What??? He is just another politician — during the primary they said he was the second coming — or — something new.
HA
What the centrists have wrought
According to the CBO’s estimates, we’re facing an output shortfall of almost 14% of GDP over the next two years, or around $2 trillion. Others, such as Goldman Sachs, are even more pessimistic. So the original $800 billion plan was too small, especially because a substantial share consisted of tax cuts that probably would have added little to demand. The plan should have been at least 50% larger.
Now the centrists have shaved off $86 billion in spending — much of it among the most effective and most needed parts of the plan. In particular, aid to state governments, which are in desperate straits, is both fast — because it prevents spending cuts rather than having to start up new projects — and effective, because it would in fact be spent; plus state and local governments are cutting back on essentials, so the social value of this spending would be high. But in the name of mighty centrism, $40 billion of that aid has been cut out.
My first cut says that the changes to the Senate bill will ensure that we have at least 600,000 fewer Americans employed over the next two years.
The real question now is whether Obama will be able to come back for more once it’s clear that the plan is way inadequate. My guess is no. This is really, really bad.

Whether those johns were rich ceo’s or poor elevator operators, it’s a misdemeanor and as such gives proseccutors little motivation for bringing action.

Brian,
Hillary was no part of welfare reform and it is sexist to blame her for it. She was not holding any elected office or appointed position in the government. Furthermore, welfare reform came about during a time when both chambers of congress had significant republican majorities.
Here, the democrats have the majority in both congressional chambers, plus the presidency. There is no excuse! Obama is just a republican who was packaged as a democrat. And everybody bought it because he is black!

“But things haven’t gone quite the way the new Obama team expected. It’s been a rough two weeks of *on-the-job training* on the legislative process from the other end of Pennsylvania Avenue for the former one-term Illinois senator.”
“Even though Obama and top aides stayed close to the process, the result was an $819 billion package packed with spending projects, some of which struck even some fiscally conservative Democrats as not particularly stimulative.”
Independent Larry Johnson at NoQuarter has been making more sense since the election than Democratic loyalists like TChris who refuse to criticize Obama or see the resemblances to Bush and the Repug Party. It’s truly unfortunate when former Republicans have more sense to admit that their party and the Dems are both scumbags:
http://www.noquarterusa.net/blog/2009/02/07/some-economic-fundamentals-to-think-about-in-defining-stimulus/
http://www.noquarterusa.net/blog/2009/02/06/barack-obama-found-the-deficit-gift-wrapped/
NoQuarter might have went a little loco right before the general election, but their reporting has been on the mark since then. I’m glad to see that Larry was open to giving Obama a chance but will still criticize him and both of the parties. We need more people like Larry who will tell it like it is and doesn’t feel the need to come up with BS excuses to protect their candidate.
What’s remarkable about the sitchuation over at TL is that Jeralyn has lately become a not terribly popular guest at her own party. The commenters are now in control, taking names and kicking azz, small consolation as that may be for those earlier banned for refusing to imbibe. As for BTD, yah, there was a time when I wanted to rip him a new one, but at least he had the decency to admit today that he deserves every last brickbat hurled his way.
“least he had the decency”
I think the point of this post is that there IS NO decency in BTD. At all.
Awwww, d’kat, you would bring up Krewe du Vieux. I still have the blue-rubberized matzoh shingle a friend of mine granted me on Decatur St., that first post-Katrina Mardi Gras season. The shingle came with a fusillade of FEMA counter-instructions for roof installation and a string of disclaimers. That cold night parade provided me with my first real laughter in months. (That year I also snagged a superb sequin-drenched and feathered Krewe of Muses high-heeled ‘mule’, now a prized possession.)

they made up the headline based off of what the convicted madam claims. wall street bankers is a rather broad term. if there are specific individuals mentioned by name and proof that they worked for institutions that were given tarp money and that they visited prostitiutes after their institution got tarp money and they were using corporate cards and not reimbursing their instution for the bills and therefore proof that taxpayer money went to pay for them to get laid, thats when it becomes relevant. otherwise its just a makebelieve story blog like those on huffington post and the onion.

More MG trivia, d’kat: a friend of mine and her husband lived on Napoleon at Chestnut, right around the corner from our house. Every year they would invite tons of people over for EVERY parade (with lots of great food). Their big front porch was the perfect place to spend many a parade night. Sigh.

Muses have adopted that reporter in iraq that threw the shoes at Dubya as an ‘honorary’ member

We (and by we I mean America) got hosed. And Obama’s “pragmatism” is the main culprit. “
I like Talk Left except for Jeralyn who had her brain sucked out in Denver and I must say that BTD is the least objectionable of the Obamaites.
His reason for backing Obama was strictly pragmatic and he will admit to being wrong.

this is not a pleasant time to be an economist, it’s like being one of those scientists with the observatories watching the meteor head towards the earth and not that many others have it figured out or are being told about it … sheesh, read krugman, he’s writing like his hair’s on fire
ANY Democrat would’ve won after the economic crisis. During the primaries, polls showed that Hillary had a better chance of winning than Obama though both seemed likely to win in a race against McCain. BTD’s excuses to support Obama were in the words of BTD “Bull and Sh*t”. Yes, Obama was the media darling. But you’d think that in a year when Democrats had everything going for them and Americans were looking for the opposite of Bush that BTD would’ve chosen to support the person with the most qualifications, experience, and knowledge about the economy instead of picking an empty suit simply because Tweety and Olbermann jerks off to Obama’s speeches each nice. Give me a f*cking break. Before he can continue to criticize anyone else, BTD needs to admit that he was wrong, that his choice was a mistake, and that PUMAs were right about Obama.
I bought a grapevine for the backyard obama victory garden today … i’m going to see how good i am at making grape jam and home made wine
SOD- I am glad that we were thrown under the bus so early. We got the best seats.
Yesterday I watched a long video clip of a Krugman interview on Morning Joe (a program I’ve never watched, not being much of a teevee type). Besides managing to be both eloquent and terribly common sensical, not to mention unflappable, Krugman is quite a bit younger than he appears in his NYTimes head shot. Just LOVE that man.
he’s in his early 50s
Krugman’s eyes got to me – they look like those of a genius with heart.
yeah, he’s the real deal and his wife Robin is a sweetie too
Early 50′s seems younger and younger to me.
He was born in 1953 so he’s 55.
I really like Krugman too. He seems like a nice a humble guy for someone so intelligent. Krugman needs to have genius babies. It’s always the wrong people like Octomom having a gazillion children.
Early 50′s IS younger and younger to me. We live in a university town just south of Austin now, and I swear some of the students I see hitting the crosswalks are somewhere around 12 or so.

yup, i’ve looked in on talk left a few times. i do see some actual criticism now and then. i do recall that btd did write a diary redaring how obama could be carter or fdr. well he is carter. we all know that and i think in his heart btd does also. he is the brightest one there. poor chris is a failure in blogland. jeralyn well whatever works is her groove.
Learned alot today. Learned what a Village Idiot is (hope Chuck Todd is one). Learned what Talk Left is (will not waste time there). Just waiting patiently for BO to get that look on his face which he had at the end of the Philadelphia debate. That’ll come sooner than expected. He’s in over his head. Too bad the nation does not have a board of directors who could replace his ass.
Ewwyugh. A half-naked Obama. The proportions aren’t right on that body somehow but I’m not going to look any longer to figure out what’s wrong.
The problem with Obama “reaching out” to Republicans is that they are interpreting that as a weakness. They smell blood. And that’s why Dimocrats are on the defensive, with their solid numbers in all three houses. Republicans are whooping some Democratic ass.

More MG trivia, d’kat: a friend of mine and her husband lived on Napoleon at Chestnut, right around the corner from our house. Every year they would invite tons of people over for EVERY parade (with lots of great food). Their big front porch was the perfect place to spend many a parade night. Sigh.
No, the perfect place was Anne’s (Rice) place on St. Charles Ave; the mardi-gras house. She supplied all the food/drink and restrooms and the spot in the front on St. Charles was usually “open”. Of course St. E’s wasn’t bad either for where the parades formed. (sigh-those good old days of the fan club and those properties!)
Fredster> Too bad Anne Rice found God (did Lestat ever find God?) and has turned into a crazy born-again.
SHV, that Financial Week link you posted above has some very scary articles. I get the picture that we are indeed headed for worse than the last century’s Great Depression.

*nods* Republicans aren’t going to help Obama, they don’t need to and it’s not in their interests to do so. He’ll move to the right and they’ll move firther to the right, he can’t co-opt them.

D: When she started insisting she didn’t need an editor, the books started turning to crap, IMHO. Memnoch was the first one, to me, that started getting strange and then it was downhill from there.
She “embraced” the church again I think when Stan developed cancer (seeing mortality?) and then went full-blown when he died.
I really enjoyed the porn she wrote under the pseudonym A.N. Roquelaure. She didn’t leave much to the imagination!
“The problem with Obama “reaching out” to Republicans is that
the correct grip involves both hands wrapped around their throat.
Someone needs to “send” this FU to BTD.
and 0bambam isn’t my prez — he hasn’t been vetted yet.
Besides I predicted he had zero leadership ability — and I was right.
My next prediction — 0bambam will travel all over the country selling one thing or the other — to hand picked crowds — just like his big brother GWB did — jetting from one city to the next for the faux adoring crowds.
He’s got the white house — but he won’t stay there and he will quickly break GWB’s vacation record.
DID you HAVE to post that nasty pix of the ONE?
next time post a damned link with a “vomit if viewed” warming.
Headline in our Sunday newspaper….obama scolds GOP. Ahhhhh isn’t that cute? Did he do that by going away from the White House for the weekend? It’s hard work ..isn’t it?
I’d blocked the awful memory of TChris – his posts were just an affront to reasoned written arguments.
I usually had a bit of sympathy toward BTD despite his gruffness, but it bothered me that he seemed to be stuck on the electability meme. Just because Obama could be elected didn’t mean he should be elected.
Jerelyn – prime example of what happens when you start believing that your own POV equals abstract truth and then start shutting down others POV as “untruth.”
I’d blocked the awful memory of TChris
TChris is a lot better when he blogs on legal stuff and leaves politics and snark alone.
What pissed me off about Jeralyn is she suddenly shifted to Obama worship and she banned anyone who remained consistent and didn’t join her.

SEIU Nevada Endorses Barack Obama!

http://www.politicswest.com/2008_election/16721/obama_wins_endorsement_seiu_nevada
Presidential hopeful Barack Obama has won an endorsement from the Nevada chapter of the Service Employees International Union, boosting his prospects against rival Hillary Rodham Clinton in Nevada’s upcoming Democratic caucuses.
BTD is complaining again this morning about the stimulus plan. What scares me even more is that idiot Claire McCaskill has a Twitter account. Did her children tell her to join that too??
Jeralyn is a sell-out, pure and simple. She said herself that she would have a hard time getting behind Obama if he chose Biden as his VP. Well, we know what happened. Less than 48 hours after Biden was chosen, Jeralyn flip flopped and said we all had to get behind Obama. Then she went insane after Palin was chosen. It was just beyond anything I’d ever seen before. Even Anglachel, who didn’t support McCain/Palin still has douchebags like C.L. on her blogroll while taking us off, said that Jeralyn had gone over the edge with her Palin posts. She became obsessed with troopergate then jumped right on the liberal misogyny bandwagon in order to bring Palin down at any cost. It disgusts me even to think about what went on last year.
I’m late to the party & like Honora I loved TL until Jeralyn had her brains sucked out at the convention in Denver & until BTD went on his rampage against PUMAs calling us all insane for insisting that Obama stole the nomination. I left — I wasn’t banned — I, too, disengaged.
The problem with BTD is that he insisted, and I mean insisted, that Obama & Hillary were exactly the same on policy and would shout down anyone who disagreed. There is no justification for that & I refuse to pretend that he “wasn’t that bad.” Yes, in fact, he was. First, it was a given that anyone with a “D” behind his OR her name was going to win against any Republican so his “more electable” argument was B.S. &, imo, only used as a cover that he wanted the one with the penis. Second, he was dead WRONG about Obama & Hillary being the same on issues. So he can kiss my cat’s a$$.
One by one, everyone left NOT under the bus is attempting to heave-ho Obama under it. How many ways can they say, This is not the Obama I knew.
Just words? Depends on who’s saying them…
Just based on the Obama Health plan v Hillary’s Health plan there was a distinct difference. That alone should’ve made any liberals toes curve. But it didn’t seem to bother the obamanation.
I got out of TL one step ahead of the banners. It was depressing to watch them succumb to the kool-aid. I’ll never understand how anyone with a modicum of critical thinking skills could possibly support Barack Obama.
angienc2, on February 8th, 2009 at 9:45 am
angie…dead nuts perfect.
BTD thought that Hill had too many negatives-that made BO the more electable. He bought into the whole meme.
Yes-I remember BTD’s whole issues argument -I stopped going to TL after that, not that I commented much, but I liked reading it.
RD does well to keep off the whole ratings of comments/posts biz IMO.
Also, I think that nested comments like TalkLeft leads to cliquishness and an in-crowd. You (well I) watch the comment threads that I’m personally involved with and miss the stuff that doesn’t involve me so directly.
Here we’re all tumbled in together and it’s a lot of fun sorting through the jumble. More like a big room with a lot of overlapping conversations.
Hey, Judith – you don’t know what the f*ck you are talking about. Many of us got banned simply for holding Obama’s feet to the fire when he voted for FISA and allowed MI and FL to be disenfranchised.
Myiq is being honest and has the quotes from TChris and BTD to prove that he’s right. Yea, and visiting someone’s blog and calling them an asshole is “being grown up”. Go f*ck yourself.
What katiebird said.
you got banned for being an asshole.
What a coincidence!
