Smooth
Very smooth
Carlos Santana has been a guitar god since I was a kid, and there doesn’t seem to be anything musical that Rob Thomas can’t do.

Ah, come on! This post has been up forever! Isn’t it time to move in?
No, it’s not. We were long overdue for a FU BTD post.
(giggle) Too true.
I will move in.
Carlos Santana has been a guitar god since I was a kid
He’s been just that since I was a wild bell-bottomed young thing in college. One of the few record albums (!) I’ve kept from the days when none of us inhaled is the Santana with the black and white cover and lots of wild hair. Damn but I loved all that good Sixties music.
I will be your Black magic woman!!!!
Wait…is that the Joe Cocker cover I’m thinking of? It’s all going hazy…
Myiq – are you old enough to remember Chuck (and Gap) Mangione? They weren’t too shabby, either.
Melanie Phillips, British writer and the author of Londonistan, has written a scathing piece on America’s new President Obama. Titled “America — What Have You Done?”
afrocity, what is the blue spherical thing in your new avitar? That may sound dumb, but after mistaking your cat for a dog last time I don’t want to makes any guesses.
oh it is a ball, that I am about to toss to my dogs. The avatar came out wrong. I need to fix it.
Oye Como Va, babee!
I will be your Black magic woman!!!!
I suddenly feel like all the white people who think because they grew up watching “Good Tmes” and “The Jeffersons” they are “hip”
Oh, man, I said on the earlier thread that I was all over the ABC Spitzer/madam story, but I had no idea! Hey guys, the research might take me a while, but I’ll try to get something good up at my place before morning. But this whole thing coming out now is weird, in fact the whole story is turning out to be veddy, veddy in-ter-rest-ink.
Anyway, jut cuz I’m excited, here’s a little tidbit I found from 2002:
“Who’s to blame for expensive prescription drugs, pollution, and the biased research coming out of Wall Street? Try pinning the rap on the University of Chicago.
At least that was New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer’s attempted in a Dec. 4 speech to financial-services executives at the annual Banker of The Year dinner. At the banquet, which was held in New York’s Helmsley Palace, Spitzer blasted the University of Chicago for encouraging recent market excesses with a philosophical curriculum that teaches less regulation is always good for capitalism. The audience listened respectfully, but many, especially the University of Chicago alums, privately voiced their disagreement with Spitzer’s thesis later in the evening.”
Spitzer, the “Sheriff of Wall Street” was on his way to “changing the way they did business” when he was forced out.
And going after University of Chicago in 2002?
Okay, off to do more research, wish me luck.
This will be a long 4 years.
Good luck!
This is making love music ….no doubt about it
This will be a long 4 years.
I dig it.
Hmmm, I could use a little Brazilian Samba music. Astrud Gilberto/Girl from Impanena
I grew up in New Mexico, the best state in the country (I’m biased, of course).
It’s where Santana and The Marshall Tucker Band, War and Freddy Fender ruled, the airways, during my formative years.
I grew up on the wrong side of the tracks, yet it still feels right.
Carlos Santana has a unique guitar style that’s never been imitated.
Happy Saturday, Confluencians.
You guys are getting stoned. I can smell it. Don’t eat all the munchies. Seeya very soon..
So…Spitzer goes after Chicago? And soon somebody finds his hooker? Nice!
“Life like that
Delicious with clause
You never get the truth just promises galore
Fool at the heart
Don’t look down
Everybody loves you when you’re playing the clown””
We are high on love.

Helen,
If it’s in the Federal Register it’s a done deal. I’ve heard not a word about this anywhere. Thanks for pointing it out.
I am sorry if this does not work it is in a comment by athena@13:39 under obama meltdown.

Prolix and Helen: Ho boy…
Shrugs if that’s true, it seems that all he actually did was approve aid to palestinian refugees. The author seems to be making a blanket generalization, pretty much saying that Hamas won the election, therefore all Palestinians must be terrorists and should be banned from entering the us or they’ll come and kill us. That’s like saying all Americans are dangerous, untrustworthy wAr criminals because bush won or all isrealis are war criminals because Sharon was elected. That’s a pretty huge leap he or she is making there.
Hello everyone!
I just wanted to introduce myself and say hi!
I’ve been lurking here for some time, commenting once in a while. I really love the little community you have built here. It’s quite a comfort considering all of the chaos going on out there in Obamaland.
afrocity, I also saw the piece from Melanie Phillips. Brilliant!
Hello Nancy.
Interest stuff about Spitzer. I always saw the unanimous outrage over the hooker a highly orchestrated event – but failed to see a reason.
If you tell me that the same people who created Obama were behind this – I can see the MO.
And, don’t look, but Obama just stopped being Limcoln and is reagan again!

Hi, I just got up to Italian tv.
They had a bit on the news about BO, Sarkozy and Angela Merkel all being in agreement that this Recession could easily deepen into a long and slow Depression, aggravated by power ploys from Eastern Asia and China.
Therefore they were trying to work something out.
Very cheerful.
Now I shall go and enjoy the FU BTD thread.
Spitzer was probably referring to the Chicago school of economics and Milton Friedman’s right wing philosphy as described in detail in Shock Doctrine.
I believe the hooker incident was designed to remove Spitzer so that the investigations would stop. Hedge funds and derivatives were next on his radar and then insurance companies.
Whatever may be said about Spitzer, he was on the people’s side when it came to the fleecing of the poeple by these finance related industries.
Hello Nancy.
I defy anyone to listen to that music and hold still.
Spitzer had a bit in the teeth about Wall Street when he was Attorney General. It was a natural target. He took some big individuals down but he didn’t really shake the system, nor did he really intend to, imo. He wanted visibility and he got it. In reality, he was pretty friendly with the banking culture, loved hanging with the boys.
When he became Governor, everything changed. His ambition shifted to Albany politics with an eye towards the national stage. He was done with Wall Street, and if anything he became even more friendly with the banker boys on a personal level. If there was any set up with the Emperors Club, it was with members of the NY State Assembly who Spitzer had been wrestling with for a year.
Eliot was talented and ambitious. But he was no Robinhood. He was jousting at windmills and he didn’t mind. Even the SEC, if they had tried, would have done little to dent Wall Street. Congress held hearings on hedge funds back in 2007. Pathetic and wimpy. The one person who could have put the brakes on was Greenspan, and he didn’t do it.
It’s like our national obssession with inflation (i.e., the only reason to raise the Fed’s target rate is to combat inflation as measured by the Consumer Price Index). Unfortunately the CPI does not capture a financial system bubble. Greenspan should have raised the target rate and reigned in excess capital as early as 2003, but he didn’t. The war may have had something to do with that.
I know it is not tinfoil hat Tuesday but I was wondering,Is the executive order that backtrack signed to bring the Palestinian refugees to the US a payback for the bloggers in Gaza during the election?
