It’s Not About Hillary Anymore

thebuckstopshere

I was having a discussion on the subject of closing Guantanamo Bay with everybody’s favorite visitor, Angry Happy Hopeful Vindicated Angry Again Black Guy:

Would Hillary have freed all Gitmo detainees?

I agree to holding him to a tough standard but let’s not kill him for doing things even Hillary would not do.

[...]

I think Hillary and Obama have pretty much the same stance on this issue. It’s not like she would have just set them free if she were president.

What Hillary would or would not do is irrelevant.  Hillary is not the President-elect who promised to close Gitmo within 100 days of taking office.  Hillary is not the Senator that promised to vote against the FISA revision then flip-flopped.  She is not the person who invited Rick Warren to give the invocation at her inauguation.  It’s not about Hillary, Bill, John, George nor Sarah.  It’s about Barack Obama.

Closing Gitmo is an issue of right or wrong.  Obama will either do the right thing or he won’t.  Obama and his supporters cannot use what others have done in the past or might have done had they be elected instead to justify or excuse his actions and/or inactions.  He will be the “decider.”

This goes beyond campaign promises.  For at least the next four years, Barack Obama will be the only President of the United States.  He will be responsible for setting policy, and for making sure that his policies are carried out.  He will be presented with bills that he will either veto or sign into law.   It’s not about Hillary anymore, so Obama and his supporters need to get over it.

Starting next week, the buck stops with Barack Obama.

  1. Jeez, myiq, he just started. Can’t you give a break because he’s a beginner?
You’re just one of those demanding, pushy voters. Your going to hurt his self-esteem. Can we get a stress card for Barack?

  2. Excellent rant! Karate chop!

  3. If he can’t stand the heat, he better get outta the sauna.

  4. Great post myiq. Dealing with obots is like dealing with overindulgent parents. They never want their little darling to have to accept responsibility for his actions. Well, the little darling will be POTUS in a week so he damn well better learn how to own up… fast. And the obots need to treat him like a world leader, not some precious little pet.

I think it’s time to finish up that song I started for Bush, God Bless the Terrible Child.

  5. No honeymoons for Obama — the nation and the world don’t have time for such crap.

He’s made promises (are they any he hasn’t flip flopped on?)

We are seeing HIS decision making ability — not so good so far.

Don’t forget he will need his nap time — and he will need to get to bed early (by 9 pm) — if he follows his older brother’s lead (bush).

  6. I’ll be very happy to hear from Hillary any time , anywhere she makes a statement — but you’re right, myiq — the buck stops with Obama. His supporters — like the woman who was fussing on Lehrer NewsHour tonight — can take it up with him.

  7. Yes yes, but Obama’s apologists in the media and the blogosphere will not stop the buck with him. They’ll pass it on to Hillary and the rest of the cabinet. Nothing is ever Barky’s fault.

  8. JEEBUS…would you just let him alone so he can eat his waffles sweetie?

    WhatcherproblemDUDE??? ;)

  9. WhatcherproblemDUDE???

They don’t have a name for it yet.

  10. Unless someone else (cough, cough, SOD cough) wants to host it, Tin Foil Hat Tuesday will be postponed until next week.

  11. The Obama presidency. Is it over yet?

The sequel to the prequel for the presumptuous PE.

I need an alternate universe. I was momentarily feeling warm and fuzzy after Hillary’s dazzling performance. I quickly sank at the mention of The One.

    Wake me when it’s over.

  13. Is that tonight????

  14. would love to but I’m doing some show prep for tommorow.

  16. We’ll do it next week then. There probably won’t be anything else to talk about then anyway.

  17. Hello !

    Later gators!

  21. :-(

  22. The buck might stop with Obie come next week, but when will the training wheels come off?

  23. News flash: Roger Simon has suddenly discovered that in politics everyon goes easier on a black man than a woman.

    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0109/17399.html

    Duh!

  24. Mr. I voted 130 times present will never take any responsibility for his actions. When will people understand that it is their job to make Obama’s presidency a success? You were warned by MO. He is going to require you to work. You will all never be the same. He is the leader and if things go wrong, it is not his fault. It is yours because you didn’t listen well. As Obama said, he is never wrong. If Obama says it is good today then it must be. If he says he won’t close gitmo now then trust that he has good reasons for doing so. Learn to have hope. Do you feel the change

  25. next tuesday is perfect for tinfoil
    nite myiq!

  26. Yes, but Burris actually has more experience than CK

  27. Yes, but without the race card, they might have refused to seat Burris. Ironically Simon didn’t notice this happening during the primary campaign…

  28. Burris has more experience than Obama

  29. Ha ha!

Article in Columbia school publication by Barack Obama. Very poorly written.

    http://www.politico.com/static/PPM116_obamaessay.html

    and boring.

  30. LOL, Downticket. You’re right.

  31. bostonboomer, on January 13th, 2009 at 8:44 pm

The race card definitily worked for him. That is the worst card to play but it was so nice to see it played against democrats. How did you like it Reid?

  32. Great post! It’s not about what Hillary would do, it’s about what Obama promised when he was running his campaign.

The apologists are out say that Gitmo closing is important to him and he will on his first day prepare for it’s closing, this is after in an interview he says that he can’t just close it and will take year to do.

He is trying to have his cake and eat it to. It’s not about giving him a rookie pass, this is about him telling people what they want to hear and then doing something totally different.

It’s like he ran as the anti-war candidate and now his supporters are saying that he really isn’t one never was one and was against the war in Iraq and not in Afghanistan — Hello —

The difference between my support of Hillary and the most ardent supporters of Obama, is that I don’t see Hillary as Teh One, the savior, I see her as a smart intelligent woman who has the experience and ability to be a leader that will guide us out the mess we are in. She is a human and a politician and can and will make mistakes. The obama supporters can’t see that Obama can make mistake and his word is gospel.

  33. I’m not sure the race card was as effective as the law in Burris’ case. In fact, blaming everything on the race card is the only thing that lets the Obacrats save face in this mess. And Caroline’s a dolt.

  34. PlainJane:

Wow, they didn’t waste any time, did they. PEBO really is the man who would be king….

  35. The race card worked because the media played along.

They could have said “Are you crazy? The Clintons aren’t running a racist campaign!”

Instead, the media acted like Hillary was an Imperial Wizard.

  36. MyIQ:

I do not think I will ever forget the anger I’ve felt at BO’s smearing of Hillary and Bill Clinton as racists. Someone here once said words to this effect: If he could make the Clintons look racist, he could make anyone look racist. And that exactly describes the sick power of the so-called post-racial candidate.

He could not have done it without the media, though. Their complicity with his pot-shots and his rewriting of history is shameful. Repugnant, even.

I will never forget, and I will never trust a news outlet again.

  37. Now WHY would Obama close down Gitmo when he has a boatload of Suppressive Persons (see Scientology) to “clear?”

  38. What happened? Did we win the weblog awards?

  39. Pshh, it may not be about Hillary anymore but you’d better believe the first time he fails it’ll be about her.

  40. I agree that the standard should be that with the President is where the buck stops. I fear that with this incoming president the standard he will set is: how quickly can I pass the buck?

  41. Last year they said we should support Obama because he had better ideas than Hillary.

Now we’re supposed to support him because he agrees with Hillary.

  42. No myiq2xu, we are to support him because now Hillary shares the same ideas as That One.

  43. Oh, yeah. he wanted to be in charge (I can do it myself!). He has to own up to it now. He wanted it so bad, he would say anything to win. Think he’s getting a little nervous that the people who actually believed him are falling away, a group at a time? Change! Change, you can believe in!

We’ve just jumped from the frying pan into the fire.

  44. The change I can believe in is me now changing from democrat to independent.

  45. F*ck You Penguin isn’t happy with they way they got cheated:

    http://fuckyoupenguin.blogspot.com/2009/01/fup-wins-fraud-at-polls.html

  46. regency — You’ve got mail!

  47. FUPenguin got effed. It’s the 2nd greatest site out there (after Confluence.) Clearly cheating is acceptable in this poll. If the people organizing these awards don’t disqualify cheaters – then who gives a penguin’s ass about the award!

  48. Hmmm, BB, that BO ‘essay’ is indeed very poorly written. I just happen to be among those who believe that His Eminence’s first book was largely written by, well, perhaps someone other His Eminence. What we need is someone with the time and skills to do a close comparison of the Columbia writing with the book writing. Of course, the latter was a work of fiction…

  49. On Sunday FUP was way out in first and Cute Overload was a distant third behind LOLCats.

Yesterday CO was in second. Today they were in first.

  50. Kat5,

I believe that too. His second book is a joke. But that Columbia article is just sad. I wrote better than that in high school–much better.

  51. I love the hillary wouldn’t do any better excuse. She ain’t perfect, but he’s a dolt. Is there anything he’d do better than her with, really? Posing for pictures? Lying? The blame game? It seems like she’s strong in areas where he’s weak and where she’s weak he’s worse. If well of course he sucks but it’s possible she might have too–the point of all the anti-hrc hysteria was what, again? He attracted support why?

Thank you abg for bringing back memories of my anybody but Hillary days and why I left them behind.

  52. Kat5:

He spent 4-5 years writing his first memoir (while in his 30’s) so I would expect it to be a little better.

  53. Buuuut, myiq: I’ve read that BO was asked to return his advance because he couldn’t come up with anything decent in a timely manner. Then, all of a sudden, this memoir magically shows up and it’s well written (if mostly fictional)?

  54. He took a 4 month vacation to Bali to finish it.

  55. You will all like this.

    From hillbuz:

Kerry also noted that President Clinton was once an intern on the committee, so he offered, jokingly, for Chelsea to be a Senate Intern for a Day and take a seat up on the dais with the Senate staffers. Chelsea was seated behind her mother the whole day, where Clinton couldn’t see her without turning around, so Kerry said that would be a way for Chelsea to be visible to her mother as she supported her. Chelsea smiled, but never took him up on it, and spent the day in her seat right by her mother.

  56. Yes, the race card was definitely played in regard to Burris. But I think Cinie is right, the Dems were pushed up against the law. Reid et al, HAD to give in. The longer the political theatre lasted, the weaker the Dems looked and the more victimized Burris looked. I think it’s also made Blagoyovich look like the only one who knows how to play political hardball.

  57. Turns out BO and Billy Ayers shared a travel agent, myiq! What a coincidence!

  58. Lurch is such a buffoon. Chelsea probably would have been tempted to smack his face if she got close to him.

  59. Chelsea was there to support her mother, not to upstage her by role-playing with Treebeard.

  60. If the fucking Obots want to know what Hillary would have done or presume to know — they should have voted for her.

  61. Off topic, but will someone….ANYone please take Rep. Clyburn and dump him on a deserted island someplace where he will never be found!
Seriously, he’s an embarrassment to my r@ce, and by that I mean the human r@ce!

  62. I think John McCain and Sarah Barracuda were going to shut down Guantánamo. That’s why I voted for them over BHO.

  63. What did Clyburn do now?

  64. DYB, It’s him, and his ever present cries of “R@ist!” hurled at ANYone who gets between him and what he wants. You know what he did to Bill and Hill, and any black dems who supported Hillary, now he’s going after a fellow Rep. from SC, because the guy didn’t think it was helpful to the citizens of SC that Clyburn wants to send some of the 350bill bailout money to his cronies back home. So he said it was all well and good for the great grandchildren of plantation owners who’ve been taken care of by their ancestors to say that, but the descendants of those who worked the plantations need the help. I’m sure you can see the actual comment on youtube or fox site.

But I’m getting so sick of this sh*t! I wish someone would come out and tell him and people who use that card at EVERY opportunity to STFU! I know it would be near impossible for someone outside the black comm. to do so. So I wish someone inside it would do so. Hell, I’ll do it, if they put me on tv! ^_^

  65. I suspect Clyburn is going to play the race card as long as it works – and it’s been working!

  66. No. It is not about Hillary anymore. It is about NOT Hillary. What her absence from the position means to the rest of our god-forsaken world. A world so in need of healing and peace.

It’s about a world where women and children suffer the abuses of corporations at a more profound rate than do men. Where women make less. And are still expected to care for their children alone.

It’s about what happens when one woman carries that burden, and tries to rise up from under it. And then other women join with the oppressors and keep her down. While elevating a man who has done nothing… and I do mean nothing…. to advance the causes of women and children.

It is not about Hillary. It is about NOT Hillary. That is what it’s about.

  67. I am just looking for some kind of objective standard of evil. My only point is that if Hillary was taking an even more conservative position on this point, Obama should be given some level of credit.

He’s been out hard against Gitmo since it was opened for business after 9/11. I think his record is very good on this issue.

  68. PS:

If we are truly focusing on Obama and what he actually does starting next week, we get to drop the “well if Hillary was President” line of criticism, right?

I think it is fair to start looking at Obama on his own merits, but that comes with certain concessions from the other side. Can’t have it both ways.

I’ll gladly give up Hillary comparisons every day if the PUMAs do.

  69. Torture – evil

    illegal prisons – evil

Breaking a promise to close a place built for torture and illegal detention – Obama
