As the details of Obamanomics finally roll out to the public, it is increasingly obvious that what we are seeing is some kind of
Reaganomics lite. I mentioned this in a post on January 5th trying to answer Paul Krugman’s concerns on how ‘bold and swift’ the Obama plan will be. Today, Krugman answered strongly not bold enough in the Obama Gap.
But Mr. Obama’s prescription doesn’t live up to his diagnosis. The economic plan he’s offering isn’t as strong as his language about the economic threat. In fact, it falls well short of what’s needed.”
Today’s Market Watch outlines the abysmal labor market.
Total hours worked in the economy fell 1.1%, with the average workweek falling to the shortest ever, signaling an annualized decline of 6% in gross domestic product in the fourth quarter, wrote John Silvia, chief economist for Wachovia. Hours worked have declined “at an eye-watering” 7.7% annual pace in the quarter, Shepherdson said.
An alternative measure of unemployment that includes workers too discouraged to look for a job rose to 13.5% from 12.6% in November; it’s the highest in the 13 years since those data have been kept.
These are serious numbers that followed the even MORE serious numbers in manufacturing reported earlier in the week. Rather than repeat what I said earlier, I’d like to show some that I’m not alone out there in the liberal wilderness. Yes, I said LIBERAL wilderness. The Black Agenda Report which has never been in the Obama corner and endorsed Cynthia McKinney outlines Obama’s hostility to both Universal Health Care and what is traditionally the Democratic Party’s approach to the economy.
In a similar vein, “Obamanomics” at best falls short of the bold progressive initiatives and challenges to financial and corporate power required to spark equitable domestic development. As adjusted in response to the banking crisis and deepening recession, moreover, Obama’s economic program could well amount to “something akin to a national austerity program….” Instead of forward movement on jobs, education, retirement, and health care, Jack Rasmus finds, “what me may well get is ‘Let’s all tighten our belts to get through this crisis.”
Turning away from the op-ed pieces, let’s examine this front page headline from the NY Times: Senate Allies Fault Obama on Stimulus.
WASHINGTON — President-elect Barack Obama’s economic recovery plan ran into crossfire from his own party in Congress on Thursday, suggesting that quick passage of spending programs and tax cuts could require more time and negotiation than Democrats once hoped.
Senate Democrats complained that major components of his plan were not bold enough and urged more focus on creating jobs and rebuilding the nation’s energy infrastructure rather than cutting taxes.
So here we have more evidence that many are beginning to see that the Obama plan is not bold and will not be swift. Back on MarketWatch, we once again have the winds of cold, harsh reality hitting the face of any one connected to the U.S. Economy.
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — The U.S. recession will last two full years, with gross domestic product falling a cumulative 5%, said Nouriel Roubini, chairman of RGE Monitor. Roubini was one of the first economists to predict the recession and the credit crunch stemming from the housing bubble. For 2009, Roubini predicts GDP will fall 3.4%, with declines in every quarter of the year. The unemployment rate should peak at about 9% in early 2010, he said. Consumer prices will fall about 2% in 2009. Housing prices will probably overshoot, dropping 44% from the peak through mid-2010. “The U.S. economy cannot avoid a severe contraction that has already started and the policy response will have only a limited and delayed effect that will be felt more in 2010 than 2009,”
As we get more and more evidence that Obama’s actions never reach anywhere near the level of his rhetoric, will the koolaide start wearing off even before the President Elect gets to give his first State of the Union Address? I’m waiting to see if it comes any where near even one of FDR’s minor fireside chats.
Meanwhile, Senator Harkin from Iowa, the state where, oddly enough, I attended Herbert Hoover Elementary School had this to say in the Times article today.
“There is only one thing we have got to do in the stimulus, and that is how can we create jobs,” said Senator Tom Harkin, Democrat of Iowa, as he left the meeting. “I am a little concerned by the way that Mr. Summers and others are going at this in that, to me, it still looks like a little more of this trickle-down, if we just put it in at the top, it’s going to trickle down. A number of people in there said, ‘Look, we have got to have programs that actually create jobs and put people to work.’ ”
Okay, did Senator Harkin just call Obamanomics more trickle down economics, voodoo economics, Reaganomics? Can I get a witness? Again, it’s very hard to argue for business tax credits when most businesses are just looking for customers. If you don’t put the money into the hands of customers, a few tax credits here and there aren’t going to accomplish anything. There has to be income first.
Anyway, is it too early for me to buy an ‘I told You So’ bumper sticker for my poor worn-down mustang yet?

Give it a month, Kat, and then you can get this one to go next to it:
Don’t blame me, I voted for Hillary
I linked to that Harkin quote about trickle-down economics in my last post. I thought it was very telling indeed. Good for him.
Great post!
Hmmmmmmmm he touts Reagan during the primaries and yet these people are surprised that he is taking a leaf from Reaganomics? Can I please get a country with some leaders that make some sense. This batch is defective.
Before you all feel too bad for Harkin……he urged Hillary to drop out and support Obama, need I remind you all.
It’s so ridiculous — Reagan left office 20 years ago, and his policies were a mess. Now we get another dose of it?
yes, I read that madamab. this is just ridiculous. even given every family a debit card for $1000 of food makes more sense for stimulus than THIS plan.
Off topic but this is GREAAAAT news for the Wankers

Newell should sign up post haste. Right now the poor deluded guy seems to think that calling a girl a hag is flirting.
i think we can all say that we are not getting our pony and that poor deluded woman cannot expect her rent to be paid or her gas tank filled … we still haven’t even broached anything that really deals with the bad housing market and the homelessness it will create
dakini-
That’s actually not a bad idea. Why not give everyone a prepaid debit card that expires in 6 months?
Oh dear lord Kat, that would really scare me. I have seen the food ration cards from the Great Depression. My Grammy had several in the family bible to bring out whenever she thought we were making bad financial decisions.
He ought to include money for at least one shelter in each state in his stimulus package.
No dammit he needs to admit that he is in over his head and say sorry and go on home.
(I can dream, can’t I)
TRK
A prepaid card would ensure the money was spent rather than saved.
Bless his heart
I know Cwaltz, but I heard so much about flour and meal cards, when I was little from grandparents. I was brought up on a farm so my family had some leftover from their grandparents and that just sounds so “Great Depression” it is scary.
But hell give me a card, I will spend it.
CWaltz: we’d hate to make sure it would be used for domestically produced goods which is why i suggested food. That’s more likely to be spent on stuff produced here in the USA. That ensure it stimulates the US economy and not china.
I’m still laughing at that beast post about the size of obama’s package being inadequate … that’s a keeper!
Here’s a bit of news:
http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/01/09/obamas-mother-in-law-to-move-into-the-white-house/?hp
Apparently Michele’s mother is moving to the White House. She is so lucky that grandma can help with the children. I find this ironic because in many communities, women working at low paying jobs are being forced to care for grandkids. The meth epidemic in the midwest has strained families to breaking point.
Women who should be able to retire are pulling double duty taking care of their grandkids.
What are Obama’s economic plans doing for the working poor and women supporting families on low wage jobs?
dak,
The auto bailout didn’t even stipulate that they give priority to domestic suppliers. D’oh.
The bad thing is that alot of local food sources are cash only because of the fees associated with credit transactions. Giving a food card limits people’s option and it just might end up in Walmarts pockets anyways.
Arabella
Women should speak with their husbands or pastors(tongue in cheek). We are meant to be subservient to the male figures in our lives.
I’m waiting for them to call on us to wear burkhas any day now.
CWaltz: maybe if they just issued the card and gave every one like $50 a month on it, that would put it more into the groceries, gas etc realm for people. I’d recommend it was means tested to because poor to middle class people would actually spend it. I bet some one could work the details out and put the IRS in charge. They have our records anyway.
It looks like that empty Obama suit is being filled by a reincarnation of Ronald Reagan.
Does anyone know…does obama like jelly beans?
you know, I’d have to look around, but I think there’s an economist that has actually done research and has concluded the best way to stimulate the economy is by expanding the foodstamp program …
Obama doesn’t like jelly beans, but he love ciggies.
Heh
It would be kind of cool if they did figure out a way to do like $100 a month and then said they would continue to fund it for several months to monitor the effect on the economy.
Betty – Does Obama think that if you’ve seen one tree, you’ve seen ‘em all?
That’s amazing about Obama’s mother-in-law. What the H*ll happened to Michelle being “Mom-In-Chief?” Poor thing, can’t she even handle her own house?
MADAMAB HAKA
TRK – I love when you say “bless his heart.” My Southern friends have told me EXACTLY what that means.
A little off topic, but a little while ago I heard that loudmouth, redneck Ed Shultz call Sarah Palin a bimbo on the radio. Getting more than a little sick at the all the anti-Sarah and anti-Hillary bullshit. Shultz was another Hillary basher during the primary.
The Reagan Era has been coming to an end for some time. I was no fan of Ronald Reagan but he was not about big government, massive spending or fluctuating tax cuts. Clinton was a centrist which is why he was successful. Bill Clinton wanted big government to end.
In 2008 Sen. Barack Obama mentioned Reagan when he said to a reporter for the Reno Gazette-Journal:
I don’t want to present myself as some sort of singular figure. I think part of what’s different are the times…I think Ronald Reagan changed the trajectory of America in a way that Richard Nixon did not and in a way that Bill Clinton did not. He put us on a fundamentally different path because the country was ready for it. I think they felt like with all the excesses of the 1960s and 1970s and government had grown and grown but there wasn’t much sense of accountability in terms of how it was operating. I think people, he just tapped into what people were already feeling, which was we want clarity we want optimism, we want a return to that sense of dynamism and entrepreneurship that had been missing.
Obama is nothing but a demagogue, tofu politician with multiple spice packets. Obama wants to be many things. He may want to be Reagan but Reagan he ain’t. Reagan hated unions, was against environmental regulations.
The times may be similar in that each followed a president that was a complete disaster and each promised revolutionary CHANGE.
Depending on which way the dice roll Obama has compared himself to Lincoln, FDR, Kennedy, LBJ, MLK, Reagan.
This has nothing to do with policies and you have to look at the common denominator. The aforementioned men possess legacies that are solidified in the pantheon if America’s greatest leaders. The presidential libraries of LBJ rank #1 and #2 respectively in terms of visitors and donors with FDR and JFK tied.
It ain’t nothing but a memory thang.
Dak
I found this
even Summers appeared to have been on board

Schultz is just jealous that she’s prettier.
Both dems and the repubs are pretty much the same on economic issues. The elite rules. Then the rest of us can fight over gay-rightes, abortions etc. All to keep it look like a democracy.
So will MO’s mom will get a paycheck for her services?
CWaltz; that’s interesting, it says that the stimulus for food stamps is double the spending, the normal multiplier isn’t 2x but 1.5x the fiscal stimulus. that means they are more effective at stimulating the economy. doesn’t suprise me though, that’s what blinder was all about, the fact that the marginal propensity to consumer is much higher for the poor than the rich, i did my masters thesis in the 80s using emprics to prove his thesis.
Are the taxpayers gonna pay for her mom to step in while she is living at the WH?
CW: it also says Martin Feldstein of all people agree, too
This is GOOD news
“the House passed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which boosts a woman’s ability to bring pay discrimination lawsuits. The bill overrules a Supreme Court decision that workers must file a discrimination claim within 180 days of a pay violation, even though many people don’t learn about the wage disparities for years. In a 256-163 vote, lawmakers also approved the Paycheck Fairness Act, which closes “loopholes that have enabled employers to evade the 1963 law requiring equal pay for equal work.” Watch House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) floor speech in support of both bills: ”

Madama: You have no idea, being around a bunch of southern women is better than an episode of Designing Women. We can tear your little heart out, and do it sweeter than a piece of home-made sweet potato pie.
Afrocity,
It is indeed a policy thing. Reagan believed in tax cuts for businesses and the wealthy, and he increased spending exponentially. He realized his error near the end of his second term and desperately started raising taxes, but by then it was much too late – the government had been starved of revenue for too long. He also hated anything that made the middle class stronger, like unions or the social safety net. He also loved to loosen environmental regulations.
So far I see nothing different between him and Obama policy-wise. Personality-wise, there’s a huge difference.
they put all of us in the hurricane zone on food stamps after Hurricane Katrina and the article mentions that … i called my dad up and said, wow, I just turned fifty and filed for food stamps, aren’t you proud of me?
but it really really helped, my university screwed up my pay for like 4 months and i was borrowing from family and friends at the time, the blank check debit cards they gave some folks were a disaster but they gave us credit at targets and walmarts too … i spent 5 weeks away from home and had basically left with an overnight bag and my dogs and cat. i was happy about that too … my sister had to send me sweaters and a winter coat because it got incredibly cold up there in late sept. i was a charity case for like 6 months because of all the crap that went on during that time and I was even working at the time because they made us teach on line!
dak
I’ve never understood why there wasn’t a more bottom up approach rather than top down. When you give someone who already has money ,they focus on wants and may or may not spend it(After all if you wanted it that much and you had the means you’d buy it in all likelihood). Give it to a poor person and you’ve got a sure thing, largely because they are still working on NEEDS rather than their wants(not that the poor can’t be fiscally irresponsible and sometimes make bad money choices).
Briana – Hooray!
The House is going to be pretty good for the next couple of years. I am not surprised Pelosi is in support of those bills – she is very good on domestic issues. Where she falls down is in “national security” areas – and there, she has failed quite spectacularly, unfortunately.
TRK – I just love Southern women. I could listen to you all day.
I think Ronald Reagan changed the trajectory of America in a way that Richard Nixon did not and in a way that Bill Clinton did not.
This part at any rate is true. He changed the direction, and in so many ways it’s been a disaster.
For the environment most obviously, and just as one example.
For me – RR was the beginning of the end … here in Ca. as gov. .. he closed all mental health hospitals .. which, of course resulted in the “Homeless” .. which then enabled all the repubs to sit around & ‘bitch’ about how all ‘those worthless people ” .. didn’t wanna get a job “…
Madamab, most of what you say is true but I don’t see it reflected in Obama who gives the unions hand jobs (See Galesburg, IL) we agree to disagree. Reagan was pretty much brain dead during his second term. We Repub’s ain’t buying it. Reagan is the Left’s Boogey Man. We all need one.
Personality wise in my opinion Obama is Bush II. In fact I would buy and most conservatives see similarities in those two even in terms of policies more than Reagan.
I have lived with Obama in Illinois. I also resided in Texas for 8 years with George W. as my governor.
When a horse race begins, the horse comes out of the gate wanting to be a hero, liberal, reformer or what have you. It doesn’t mean he is gonna finish that way.
“just words, just words”
I am conflicted on Reagan’s EITC. Alot of what I read supports that the program has kept people out of poverty. That said, I do think that it helped the business community rationalize paying substandard wages because it allowed the federal government to pick up the slack.
CW: well, most of the folks that got the free and open debit cards at the Houston dome used them on things like porn, strip clubs, and guns … a lot of people took issue with that, but have to stay, that’s pretty much local stimulus (on many many levels)
I am not that convinced that Obama hearts unions. He’s got alot of private sector friends that aren’t union and a union buster on pay.
Personally, I think overall unions are good. I do realize that sometimes folks are greedy but overall I think they helped ensure a profitable venture meant the spoils got disbursed much more equally.
afrocity: Reagan oversaw the biggest tax increase in U.S. and his federal expenditures on the military took the federal debt to places unheard of in times of war. the man really was a hypocrite on many levels
Dak,
Isn’t it weird to see how people prioritize when the world goes to heck in a handbasket? Porn, booze and a gun to protect your spoils(shaking my head).
Reagan was a great speechifier though- He made people feel all warm and fuzzy while his shadow government pillaged.
cwaltz:
Historian John D. Hicks wrote in Republican Ascendency 1921-1933 (1960) that:
“As later events seemed to prove, money poured in at the top of the economic system tended to stay there, whereas money poured in at the bottom tended to rise through all levels of business and to strengthen the economy as a whole.”
CWaltz: well, they learned really fast, that’s why the redcross switched to vouchers at either supertargets or super walmarts and limited purchases to food and clothes— i wound up with like 3 years supply of olive oil trying to spend up mine before the expiration date
blojo’s post-impeachment speech is live on the tube.
the man has balls, gotta give him that.
he’s rattling off a list of the IL legislature’s failures!
Afro
I do see your point on Bush version 3.0 though. Bush was a blank slate going in(alot folks bought his compassionate conservative schtick) and I believe Obama is as well( so many that believe he will be liberal since his progressive punch score is more liberal even as he refutes many of the policies liberals want).
Dak: I am out of Olive oil.
Does anyone think that backtrack will go through with his attacks on the coal industry?
So many states and people will be affected and with the economy going downhill as is this is madness.

That’s why I said those debit card should have an expiration. People spend it if they know they lose it if they don’t
I am not anti walmart or anti target but I’d like to see something expanded to pump money into more than those two companies. The EBT function would allow it to be spent at any store that accepts EBT and give people a little more range.
Cwaltz, that is my entire point. The Conservatives are not happy with Bush. He did not govern like a conservative or a liberal. Bush 3.0 will be the same. . . Mixed Bag.
On the center right–where I stand I see ourselves like Mikey

Left pushes the bowl of Obama Flakes over to us…. “it’s like you. You can have it”
Right… We don’t want it. It has your brand on it (DNC)

If he does then NS is screwed. I don’t think he will for now though. He doesn’t need anymore job layoffs and getting rid of a whole industry wouldn’t be smart.
I am totally anit-Walmart. Don’t expect me to go anywhere near one.
Our conservative paper is shocked that Dems are speaking up against Obama’s economic plan. They say he’s only trying to be bipartisan and get things done.
They must expect Democrats to roll over and play dead the way conservatives did with all the crap Bush got away with.
There’s no PUMA on the Republican side.
Kudos to PUMA, Krugman, Harkin and everyone else who’s speaking out.
Afro
We need to call the brand what it is in my opinion- corporate- special interest
Barack Obama (C)
Brought to you by the insurance industry, the telcomm industry, the financial sector and everyone else with a corporate logo.
the really weird thing about this stimulus package is that even hardcore obama apologists are having a time justifying all the tax cuts he’s proposed
I think every one sees it as outright pandering to the right and their interests in the let’s all get along vein
I read somewhere that he wants 80 votes in the Senate for it, so he has to go a long way to please Republicans.
The Dems then feel they’re being taken for granted, of course.
Meh TRK
They aren’t my favorite either. I spent three years working for one. Nothing cures you of something like getting stuck in their bureaucracy.
That said,
They aren’t totally without redeemable qualities and considering they employ over a million it is better to reform them then wish them a timely demise.
Cwaltz, and don’t forget the mainstream media. (wink)
And there is a Proud African American PUMA on the Republican side.
Eighty votes ! That’s some cloud he’s wrapped himself in.
Here it is, in Politico:
Obama strategists say he wants to get 80 or more votes in the 100-member Senate, and the emphasis on tax cuts is a way to defuse conservative criticism and enlist Republican support.
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0109/17039.html
Well
It will be an exercise to see if Obama or the Senate Dems cave first. I don’t hold much hope for the Senate dems- my husband calls them the Capitucrats.
Has anyone heard anything about MSNBC sponsoring cinemas showing the inauguration? Those type of special events generally go for $20 or more a pop. I wonder how much they stand to make off the deal.
Or maybe they bought all the tickets themselves and are giving them away free to justify their year of adventures in jawdropping journalism anti-ethics.
Jmac: it’s a popularity contest, I guess. don’t do the right thing, just make every one feel good about you
This is just so totally f&cked up. Never mind the “I told you so’s” or who did what. How in the hell did the US manage to crap and fall back in it?
I am no economist, but I try to follow every word kat says when she posts and I still have a hard time following it. Having said that, even dumb me, three years ago at the peak of the housing boom, knew that something bad was going to happen.
People were buying houses that they could and would never pay off. Or worse, getting equity loans on their homes on the inflated value. I knew people who refinanced their houses and did interest only loans.
You have to ask yourself if someone like me knew this would have a bad end, why was it allowed to continue. Was it all so fat cats could line their wallets?
“Obama strategists say he wants to get 80 or more votes in the 100-member Senate, and the emphasis on tax cuts is a way to defuse conservative criticism and enlist Republican support.”
Don’t tell the librul dudes that’s called triangulation. Shh! Maybe if we don’t use the word they won’t notice. Hmmm, I wonder how many votes destroying Social Security will garner.
Afro – I don’t think we disagree too much, except that I hate Reagan with a white-hot passion and you don’t.
I agree that personality-wise, Obama is OBush. That’s been clear from the get-go. And I agree that although his policies, to me, reflect Reagan and Bush, he is truly neither fish nor fowl. He is Unique Unto Himself, a person with no core principles or values, who will simply do what he thinks he has to in order to keep and hold power. He knows the evangelicals and libertarians elected him; that’s who he’s going to try to appease.
Too bad so many Dems were snookered into voting for him because he didn’t label himself with an “R.” I am sure my friends, especially my female ones, don’t realize yet how socially conservative Obama is. My pediatrician friend is going to be especially horrified if/when anti-choice Daschle doesn’t rescind that nasty “Conscience Rule” Bushie pushed through at the last minute.
it looks like colmes replacement is goin to be al sharpton … another good reason to turn the MSM off …
Note the current news cycle showing Obama the magnificent at odds with Democrats on tax cuts .
I am really not reading much into this.
Obama is about to throw another curve ball.
al sharpton??
nfw!
And Afrocity – I found myself thinking this morning:
“I really wish McCain had won – not just because Obama would be electoral history, but because I think he’d have more of a clue on the economy than the PE.”
Even my Obot dad was saying McCain’s concession speech was great and “where was he” during the campaign. Um, he was there – the corporate media just pretended otherwise.
Al Sharpton??? WTF?
Madamab
I can’t hate anyone with a passion. My livelihood depends on my ability to present historical facts to the public in an unbiased way. We really do care about what we put on those little white cards that you read at the museums.
OK, Hannity and Al Sharpton? That’s either the worst idea ever, or the best idea ever.
Gotta be more interesting than Colmes!
TRK: Some people have no choice but to shop at Wal-Mart. It is the only store ( or K-mart if there’s one around) they can afford to shop at.

I’ll miss the arched eyebrow.
He’s crying that we’re in a crisis. He’s says we might have trillion dollar deficits for years if we don’t do the right thing, then he comes up with a namby-pamby plan trying to get 80 votes.
How about trying to get Democratic votes? All he needs is a few Republicans. Clinton passed his first economic plan with not one Republican vote.
Obama is making a complete ass of himself.
Madamab,
On McCain:
Right: We don’t want it, box says GOP but tastes like Moderate Dem (pushes bowl to left).
Palin flakes: We Like It. We Like It!!!!
mad
remember McCain wanted to put the details of the wall st bailout on line? remember he called for “transparency?”
all that talk about reform and accountability *sob*
we are so screwed.
Fredster: Has nothing to do with pricing or elitism. I shop at Target, Big Lots and dollar stores. I just hate the abuses WalMart doles out on its employees. I will drive an extra 5 miles out of the way to avoid Walmart.
The man has not even taken the oath yet and I’m ready to impeach him.
TRK, yes but Target’s prices are a little higher and some things aren’t available at $$stores.
I’m just saying in some areas the Walmart is the only thing available within a reasonable distance and sadly, there are folks who think having a job there isn’t so bad.
Not playing devil’s advocate or anything.
IL supreme court says Burris doesn’t need approval from IL sec of state.
Obama is already channeling Bush by writing his “legacy” early. By capturing those 80 votes history will be sure to write that he came to DC to “unite” both factions and look!, see how he did it within his first 100 days! What a guy!
Kissing up to the Repubs is the last thing I want. After 8 years of their subversion I was hoping they would grow a brain and start putting forth candidates who could think independently and apart from the Religious Right. Instead I got a supposed Dem who is doing the same.
He has already voted in lockstep with FISA and now we are faced with the same tactics that rewarded Bush/Cheney from the outset.
I may be beating a deadhorse, but Hillary would have behaved differently since she at least had a grasp of the issues, knew her way around the DC set, and managed to incorporate the average Joe into her thinking. Oh well, we had the opportunity but once again traded it in for another egoist who has little or no understanding of how this thing works.
I am in moderation with a guy who has no idea if he is a Happy Black Guy, an Angry Black Guy, or a moron!
This is typical Democratic bs. We can’t just do something concrete with a majority, we need to sit paralyzed until we can water everything down enough to achieve unanimity, which will never happen. Republicans haven’t been able to effect a political realighnment in his country by playing you scratch my back I’ll scratch yours, they play we will fight you on everything until the last dog dies. He can scratch theirs all he wants, they’re still going to shiv him just for teh sake of it. Please.
It doesn’t count unless everyone in the country agrees, so just sit back and read comics–marvel named a character after me! And have a coin with my picture on it!
Pat,
Check Out my blog The American Thinker.
Obama ain’t no friend of ours.
If you don’t buy your bumper sticker now, you won’t be able to afford it in the future.
Seriously: “Republicans haven’t been able to effect a political realighnment in his country by playing you scratch my back I’ll scratch yours, they play we will fight you on everything until the last dog dies.”
Well the GOP feels that Bush placated to the left way too much.
Not saying that I agree with that position but
BUSH INTERVIEW WITH Chris DeMuth Dec, 18, 2008
Bush: I came with the idea of changing the tone in Washington and, frankly, didn’t do a very good job of it. I know that’s the case. But surely we can do a better job in Washington of treating each other with respect. I don’t want to be a self-serving fellow, but I have never used my position as president to personally downgrade somebody. So that’s something I’m not going to miss it at all. Disappointed at the words that came out of people’s mouth, both Republicans and Democrats and I’m very disappointed about how the process has treated some of my friends in either party.”
Bush got lambasted by the right after uttering these words. They threw Bush 2.0 under the bus. At least the die hard conservatives did. they felt in order to get war on Iraq, Bush bent over backwards to the left on other issues that the GOP considers important.
All in all he failed.
Don;t blame me. I voted for Gore. and neither Bush or Kerry in 2004.
I’m not blaming you, you’ve been a Republican for only like 32 days.
I’m sure they do think that, but the Right (no offense) is spoiled, spoiled, spoiled. They seem to get almost everything they want and they’re still never happy.

Washington – President-elect Barack Obama said Friday that he and Congress will “hone and refine” his nearly $800 billion economic recovery plan, as he seeks to patch fissures with senior Democrats over key features of the still-emerging plan
The republican party got taken over by the neocons & I hope they pay for it for years … we certainly are going to pay for the failure of it …
Tax cuts for the RICH .. during WAR TIME .. YaH .. typical repub. stupidy ..
Is she giving out the little finger thingie from Trojan that comes in a discrete little pouch?
http://tinyurl.com/4vf42h
Seriously, you just made me laugh so hard my side hurts.
Oh, so now he’s worried about Democratic votes.
Oprah makes my teeth hurt!
no doubt those tax cuts are a huge reason why he got voted in twice by repubs ..
nothing like being in debt to China .. I read an article yesterday .. that said China .. is going to have to cut down on buying our debt .. they have their own problems …
You all are going to have to help me get through the next 11 days. I just got back from my Giant (supermarket) and they are promoting Inauguration Day party platters. Complete with red white and Obama all over the place. On second thought, this may be what I need to kick start my new diet, every time I go to the market, I lose my appetite.
We unattached women have to be prepared. But I’ve only heard about the jackrabbit.
Afrocity – LOL!
I think Obama stole a few of his ideas from McCain too. He is an equal opportunity thief.
Which Dems will he placate? The liberals, or the blue dogs?
BB.. thank YOU for that .. made my day .. lol ..
Oprah should start manufacturing Obama vibrators. To cover up the buzzing the vibrator will play back various Obama speeches. It only comes in one color.
First vibrator to put you to sleep
Quelle surprise – “Lobotomized Black Guy” thinks the Wonktards are teh awesome.
Hate calls to hate, I guess.
It it because you’re a Reaganite and all your dreams have come true, Genius Black Guy? (My heart is breaking over teh Wonkette thing, I admit. It’s going to hurt worse than everyone actually being unemplyed thanks to BZero).
Obama steals from everyone … since day one.
My only hope is all the Clinton people who are around him ….. that’s it …
he is a reagan dem and we here always knew it and the others denied it … and now they get to swallow it and be like the 18% who still like bush …. Nothing will ever be Obama’s fault – it will always be blamed on someone else .. always .. it’s his MO.
Okay, now I’m laughing about the Obama vibrator! Hey, at least the speeches are long.
DYB, did you get the fridge repaired?
i knew i was busted
hi pat
Vindicated Black Guy, do you really think most of us give a f*ck if Wankette wins some online award? Their behavior just proves what we’ve been saying about the Left blogosphere since early 2008. And if you’re ticked off when you show up here, then don’t visit or comment.
Seriously,
LOL. Yes, my whole world is going to fall apart if the Wankfest wins “best liberal blog.” On the other hand, the destruction of our entire economy along with the Social Security/Medicare safety net is no biggie.
Later hater!
Projection is one of the most immature of the defense mechanims. That is why you tend to see so much of it in Obots and very young and inexperienced people like Jim Newell.
Oh my, Charlie Brown had the little red-haired girl and Wankers has the big, fat red-headed walking doucebag.
Yes, we will be disappointed.
Angry Black Guy’s world is a little narrow, we had to have him sedated the time he got a paper cut, and you don’t want to know what happened when “ilikeforks” stopped doing saturday night gamer blogging. He takes these things very hard.
I may just leave the country if Wankette succeeds! Their whole
“campaign” was run by ACORN for God’s sake. Of course they are going to win!
And thanks once again to Irrelevant Black Guy for showing up and adding to the hits that are now hovering around 5 million. We could not do it without him and his illuminating” r*cists are us” comments that he is so famously known for.
And I hear we again in MA are in for another 10 inches of snow! Can it get any better than this?
(sigh) no one liked my comment about the Trojan thingie, complete with handy link. I’m hurt.
SOD: I had a few errands to run and had my monthly lunch with “the girls” that was postponed last month. Guide me to that post once again. Is it here or on your site? You know I hate to miss any of yours!!
Fox is talking about Sarah Palin unplugged on Cavuto, along with Ann Coulter.
I almost had a heart attack! Went to run the vacuum in the den and forgot that the 7 foot cardboard cutout poster of Obama was in there. When I entered the room I let out a scream thinking it was real.
Am only “allowing” it to stay there long enough to show off to the Book Club group meeting here on Tuesday. After that, it gets chucked out the door. If only life were as simple.
I went and found the very attractive photo of Jim Newell that SOD posted last night. Here is the young man who finds so much joy in ridiculing and humiliating people who are overweight or otherwise different from his perception of the “norm.”
http://img.wonkette.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/26fed.jpg
SOD, I actually think it’s kind of cute that useless wankers now have a purpose in life. They will fight to defend Wonkette’s honor!!!! It may a pathetic cause, as causes go, but then again, wanton defamation is no laughing matter.
Pat no, no! You could make a nifty dartboard with it, or “piddle paper” for the dogs if you have any.
Yes, bb, he sure is my idea of a “dream date”!
You could put the cardboard cutout on display with a sign that says, “I am a misogynistic pathological narcissist.”
Fredster: He was a Christmas gift from my son in law who has a very warped sense of humor knowing how much I loathe Obama. He gave me a Bush one a few years ago which I keep in the bike room out of sight.
I no longer have pets in the house so these two can sit side by side. Like sidekicks.
Isn’t he adorable. He looks a little like Opie, only chunkier and not as wholesome looking.
Anyone seen Hillary lately?
Pat,
SOD’s magnificent post is about three down from this one on the front page. You can’t miss it because there is a stunning picture at the top.
Well the Book Club group are kind of upset with me since they knew I voted McCain. Although they are not ardent Obama supporters they could not understand my “deserting the Dems” by voting against him. I could not care less but I wanted to keep the cutout to show them how “eglitarian” I am. But after Tuesday that thing makes an exit.
Hillary just introduced a bill in the Senate for equal pay for women. The woman never stops working.
Maybe we could trick these people into thinking that Wonkette is actually threatened by wage deflation or global warming or something. Hoodwinked into actually caring about something important that doesn’t involve D&D AND actually doing something about it.
He was a Christmas gift from my son in law who has a very warped sense of humor knowing how much I loathe Obama
I’m sure you have a warm spot in your heart for that son in law!
The fridge is fixed. The guy was supposed to come between 8am and noon. He showed at 3:30.
I missed Bipolar Black Guy. But it doesn’t sound like he said anything new.
Wonkette is complaining on another blog that we “defamed” them? What a bunch of – pardon the expression – pussies! They declared war on us, 24 hours later they called it off, flooded us with tr0lls…and now they’re crying to mommy and daddy that we hurt their feelings? How much more pathetic can you get?!
“You know” … I have to stop puting the total blame on bush… after all, the repubs had total control of all three branches of government for 6 .. yes, that’s right … you read it hear – for Six years …. just think of the opportunity they had ….
and what they did with it ….. hope the dems have a diff. story to tell ….

We’re talking the red haired kid with glasses right?
SOD: I did read that terrific post this morning as a matter of fact. The comment section was closed but the article was excellent along with the attached comments.
I have an idea you were not too far off in your assessment. These jokers leave much to be desired. Imagine being one of them and proudly pointing out your daily contribution to the discourse? Must make a parent proud (or wincing) knowing that your kid did this all on his/her own.
Nothing like spending thousands of dollars on an “education” to brag about.
I heard yesterday that one of the southern legislators has suggested that if they are sincerely looking for “stimulous” package they should suspend witholding taxes from people’s paychecks for one year. Having that much more money in each paycheck would certainly incentivize people to spend!

Senator Hillary Clinton Reintroduces The Paycheck Fairness Act
WASHINGTON, DC –Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton today reintroduced her landmark legislation to address the continuing pay gap between women and men. The Paycheck Fairness Act would take critical steps to help empower women to negotiate for equal pay, to create strong incentives for employers to obey the existing laws, and to strengthen federal outreach and enforcement efforts. Twenty-two senators have joined Senator Clinton as original cosponsors of the legislation. Representative Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) has introduced the bill in the House of Representatives. “Every American deserves equal pay for equal work. It is disgraceful that four decades after the Equal Pay Act was signed into law, women in this country still earn only 78 cents on the dollar. The Paycheck Fairness Act is an attempt to right this historic wrong and I am proud to reintroduce it today,” Senator Clinton said.
Fredster: Most of the time I love that son in law to death. He really cracks me up. He threw a pool party a few years back when Kerry was running and requested we all wear beads and medals because we were going to “throw them over the fence” at the end in celebration. And he just can’t get enough of Blago.
I’ve been away from my computer a lot this week and so I’m trying to catch up with my reading here at the Confluence.
SOD – great post this AM. – And all of what Pat said!
DYB: Now if only you could afford to put some food in it!
obama sez we need a college football playoff
something about helping the economy…
You can’t blame Bush only on the Republicans. Dems and Indys voted for him or chose not to vote at all otherwise the Ohio and Florida votes would not have mattered that much. I blame both Bush and Obama on voters that chose not to vote or get educated on their candidate of choice. Apathy and laziness are to blame for Obama and Bush.
Seriously,
The reason Wonkette was sold to the current owner is that they were having trouble getting enough advertising revenue. Here we are a little liberal blog that doesn’t accept advertising competing a against a giant gossip and pop culture blog read by people who know very little about politics and another large blog, TPM, that also has lots of money and readers. I’d say we’re doing pretty well to be in third place. And we would still be in second place if it weren’t for gaming by little bully-boy Jim Newell.
Here’s Hillary, only days away from facing nomination hearings, still working away like a trooper. And Obama? Holed up in a hotel in DC ordering room service. What is wrong with this picture?
Catarina,
I’m sure a college football tournament will put lots of food on people’s tables and lots of people back in their homes.
WTF??!!
The hearing for Hillary is on Tuesday and will be on C-Span 2. Kerry will be presiding.
What a shame if the weather on January 20th is blizzard like and MO and her 6 inch stiletto’s sink into a nearby snowbank dirtying the hem of her designer gown(s).
Oh, hee hee hee.
…another blog in the category, “The Confluence”, wantonly defamed Wonkette, even worse than you did in this post.
Uh, hate to break to those braindead Wonktards, but before they “declared WAR! CTRL+S! CTRL+S!” on us, the Confluence was winning…and most of us had neither heard of, nor ever visited, The Blog That Must Not Be Named.
If we are relentlessly snarking them to death, they have no one to blame but themselves. LOLOLOLOLOLOL
CTRL+S, you f*ckers!!!
Pat-love the pool party, medal-throwing idea. Hilarious!
Hillary will blow them out of the water! Her grasp of the issues will put them to shame. And if she can do that to Kerry, I am all for it 100%!!
I love that Hillary.
She is something else.
Fredster,
Yes, that’s little Jimmy Newell, editor and head writer of Wonkette. Here’s another pic:
http://pumapac.org/2009/01/08/the-daily-pig-2/#comments
Defamed????? This is a blog that made jokes about Betty Jean and her daughters. The same blog that ridiculed Baby Trig. The very same blog that slimed RD and Murphy!
What in the name of God do they consider defamation?
madamb at 5:09
Here. This is for those asshats:
‹^› ‹(•¿•)› ‹^›
Jim Newell looks like my paperboy.
Fredster – Oooh! Another missile blows them away! Keyboard-wise, of course!
Gawd bless that Hillary. She is pure class, 100% of the way. I have a feeling that bill might just get passed now. The Repubs are paying a lot of attention to teh wimmins now, and might want to suck up to us for 2012.
lets hope he gets impeached real quick.
Good, good point, madamab! The GOP will step into that vacuum created by the Obots and come licking our very boots with 2010 in mind.

I wonder if he’s aware they can do surgery now to fix those crossed eyes. And it’s probably covered under Mommy and Daddy’s health insurance too.
Just when you think it can’t get any crazier, Blago holds a press conference with a guy in a wheelchair and a crying baby as props in his ongoing drama. Does the insanity never end?
If he goes down he is nuts enough to take a lot of others with him. Talk about a loose cannon with few options. The Blago watch is on!

Apparently we’ve crossed the line by posting a picture of “it” (that they posted first) and then pointing and laughing….

Why did we cross the line? They were attacking Angie’s avatar pic?
Besides, he is a nerdy looking little thing. I can’t imagine him getting to first base with his own hand.
Oh no you didn’t Myiq!!!
Gotta go – but catarina, I got that email too. Of COURSE Hillary sent it.
See you later, Conflucians!
BYE MB!
Gotta run also. Have to figure out what’s for dinner. Whatever it is, it won’t be cooked but rather picked up.
See ya’ll later!
bostonboomer — we definitely need more pointing and laughing.
It appears that it works like ropes of garlic and sunlight.
Bye Fredster
SOD:
I think the “Zwinky” ads at the blog that shall remain nameless (TBTSRN) clearly indicate the demographic that comprise its readship.
delurking.
Myiq, say it isn’t so, puhleez! I don’t think I could survive another incompetent Kennedy….I really like Robert Jr, couldn’t we substitute?
By the time they get around to impeaching Teh Precious Caroline will have several months of Senate experience on her resume.
o sheeesh .. now ‘he’s done this .. .. every day – so disappointing with him
now Obama continues to rely on Mictch McConnel on the intel advisory board … !

HT — nope…the Dems will now be in a race to put a woman on a successful ticket; HOWEVER, they want to make sure that it’s an unqualified woman so that they can say “see…it just doesn’t work.”
Blago might be a crook but at least he is bold compared to the wimp Obama
Fredster,
They called Afrocity “the black Ann Coulter.” That’s not crossing the line? It’s not crossing the line to post obscene comments as if they were posted by our writers and commenters? I’m really not too concerned about the opinions of people like that.
I’m convinced Obama will get his 80 votes….AGAINST his plan.
Both sides will hate it…
However, he’s setting up a kool-aid brigade of teeny-boppers to do stealth lobbying to demand that his plan be approved. (I still get emails from MoveOn.org with all of their mini-cult meeting schedules.)
Yeah…that’ll work. Send the college crew over to capital hill to talk those pols into joining their messianic cult. Yep, politicians listen to voters (NOT — only voters with LARGE donations).
Myiq,
Another pop culture reference I don’t recognize. What on earth is “zwinky?” Do I even want to know?
No – word on rthe street is that President Hairplug would pick Hill!
Oh, BB I don’t undersstand half of what they say here – I think I’m two generations ahead sometimes. It’s like another language entirely
boomer — http://www.zwinky.com
Oh dear….
Blago quotes another poet. His defense is that the house was stopping him and he found creative ways to get things done. I swear this guy is going to say I did it because it was my only option to help my constituents
SOD,
To save me some time, which innane post at the blog that shall not be named has the complaints about our posting photos of little Jimmy Newell?
Joanelle,
I mostly understand the references here, but as for the dorky 20-somethings at Wankfest, I’m in the dark and glad of it.
Well maybe some of the Dems in Congress are waking up to the fact that they have been “HAD”!
Soon will I hear them say:”Mr Obama we wanted a Democrat a real live breathing FDR Democrat, but instead we only got YOU!”?
who is president hair plug?
boomer – it’s all over the Gupta one…they’re just blathering about us and Pumapac posting pictures of their fearless leader and making fun of him. Nothing else though. Strangely quiet. Only one blurb about mine with a link but no feedback.
LOL! Angry Black Guy is posting at Wankfest now.
Hi Fuzzy!
Fuzzy,
Joe Biden has hairplugs.
catarina
How did you get that whole message on women’s health to take?
SOD,
Awwwwww! I hope we didn’t hurt their tender feelings. After all your post was intended as a consciousness raiser so that we would be more understanding of their psychological issues. I thought it was quite successful.
BB:
you gotta see Zwinky to understand. There just aren’t enough words.
The comments over there make no sense! And Angry/Happy Black Guy is posting over there with sentences that have no beginning, middle, or end! Fits right in with the culture.
fuzzybeargville, on January 9th, 2009 at 5:46 pm
And they have no one but themselves to blame. They can’t pretend that they weren’t warned. Letters were written, calls were made and they ignored it all for the messiah. I can’t wait until 2010 when Obama refuses to campaign for some of these people and Hillary can’t because of her job. BC should also just refuse.
I have no idea who or what Zwinky is either.
I can’t find the ABG comments — which post?
hey everybody…
what Obama seems not to realize is if your boat is leaking and is shot full of holes from 8 years of Evil Reagan-Bushonomics…..
Is a Rising tide “Sinks” all boats!
We are having a crisis here we are going to have a depression which the MSM and Pamers Inc will spin as a “Very Severe Recession” that may last my entire first term.
I am sure Mr Pampers Speach will (or should end like a rif of FRDs)
“….We have Nothing to Fear except what I will Do next!”
Pat — I posted the link above… alone, it’s not so bad…in context it’s effing creepy.
SOD: It is one of many. Just keep going until you find the post on Gupta. It is probably one or two pages from the current front page but at the top.
Hey, another one of our long-time trolls is over at the wankfest too–”articulate moran.” Either they’ve always been there, or they are taking over the top DC gossip blog.

myiq,
re: Zwinky
AAAAAKKKK! That looks like something an 8-year old girl might be interested in.
Here is the video
Give me 10 minutes and I’ll put up an open thread.
I really hope that Wonkette-ites understand that if they win whatever this thng’s called, um, there’s no money involved and it’s not actually going to affect their lives in any concerete way. LOL They’re like adrenaline junkies now, Obama’s election didn’t bring the puppies and rainbows, getting a new translator to role play didn’t make life happy, slagging a lovely woman didn’t give their lives meaning, especially when it was pointed out their boy’s a fugly-ass hypocrite–maybe this will! Keep chasing those rainbows!
actually, i think it’s rather funny that over at wankette even the serious threads are based on deciding who to declare blogwar on next … TPM was overrun today. Given their threads have zero substance and the thread headers appear limited to paraphrashing reuters wires, and all they can do is talk a sh*t about other blogs and people, i say, party on dudez! Let them enjoythemselves over there where they can amuse each other!
better that than out on the streets scaring horses and small children
Clintonites? Why would anyone be concerned with Obama surrounding himself with experienced people, especially when their experience comes from a successful administration. I’m concerned about the sexists and homophobes and crooks he surrounds himself with. And we certainly can’t “help” him when he refuses to listen to us or accept criticism.
It sounds to me like his “supporters” are gearing up for an not-so-successful Obama presidency right out of the gate.
Hey Pat how you been ready for a Sunny Florida Vacation…today it was a blamy 72F sunny not a cloud in the sky nice breeze.
From Natural Home:
A special call out to those smart guys and gals at MIT-Professor Marc A Baldo-
His team has made a major breaktrhough in Solar Technology. having created the first viable and economic “solar consentrator” that reduces the number of solar cells that are need to collect electricity.
This will increase new process will increase the collective power of PV cells by a factor of 40. this will greatly reduce the number of cells needed to power a home…and the cost too!
This process uses dyes to concentrate the suns light on the cells. The technology will be availible with in the next 3 years.
there are 3 ways to end an economic down turn…
1) move away from it
2) spend your way out of it
3) Invent your way out of it
the above breakthrough could be the beginning of a resurgent american inegenuity in green energy technology that could lift us out of the current economic crisis.
Pampers Inc needs to put money in this type of reasearch not increase my paycheck $ 20 bucks so I can go to Micky D’s 2 more times a week…
and they actually welcome ABG, and all those obots from the primary, it’s like they’ve got a homing signal on their page for all the social misfits in the blogosphere, frankly, I say that’s a service to humanity to keep them all corralled in one location.
I cannot believe that video. If only the Clintonites will disappear, Obama can be a great president.
New Post Up – Open Thread
Tavis’ speaking engagement income must be down … perhaps this is a way to get back that side money he must’ve lost last year.
gxm17 – I think he thinks that the Clintonites will force him to do things he doesn’t want to. Why do they forget that most of these people are no longer Clintonites? They supported Obama during the primary. They are his people and if he fails with them on board it will be his fault not BC. Obama can have as many of his former staff as he wants but that doesn’t mean he will be as successful as BC.
He has to have help to be a great Prez? Nooooo. don’t think so. It’s either in you or it’s not. It up to HIM to inspire people not the other way around. I won’t be his fluffer.
