Changing the Changie Change Thing

It’s another change that will suprise the progressives from President Select Obama.  Are you ready?

Obama shelves oil company tax after price fall: aide

By Jeff Mason and Tom Doggett

CHICAGO/WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President-elect Barack Obama is not planning to implement a windfall profit tax on oil companies because prices have dropped below $80 a barrel, an aide said on Tuesday.

“President-elect Obama announced the policy during the campaign because oil prices were above $80 per barrel,” an aide on Obama’s transition team said. “They are currently below that now and expected to stay below that.”

Oil prices have fallen from a record $147 a barrel in July to under $50 this week.

Obama, who signaled early in his campaign for the White House that he would take an active approach to oil markets as president, had planned to use the revenue from a windfall profits tax to fund a tax rebate for low- and middle-income families struggling with high energy prices.

But the aide said Obama’s presidential campaign had already taken the price drop into account six weeks ago. When Obama laid out his economic plan for the middle class in mid-October, revenue fromstinker-cut-rate a windfall profit tax was not included because of the price change, he said.

Well, isn’t that special?  How long are progressives going to be able to take one more from the Gypper and be able to walk without hobbling over from intense pain in their hinies?

So, he’s rethinking Gitmo closing, not changing the Bush tax cuts, just saying no to the windfall profits tax that was supposed to pay for health care, and appointing the same folks to cabinet positions he was criticizing just months ago?

What’s next?  Pardoning Dubya of anything remotely resembling a crime on January 20th?

  1. He hasn’t earned the nickname Backtrack Obama for nothing!

  2. Pat J — sadly, the nickname Backtrack is just about the ONLY thing he’s earned too.

  3. So, he’s rethinking Gitmo closing, not changing the Bush tax cuts, just saying no to the windfall profits tax that was supposed to pay for health care, and appointing the same folks to cabinet positions he was criticizing just months ago?

Tell me again, how is he different from John McCain?

  4. Redundant I know, but I cannot stand this guy!!! What am I missing that others see in him?

  5. Since prices have dropped dramatically, wouldn’t this be the ideal time to raise the tax?

  6. I think you’re right about pardoning W (and others in his administration). For the sake of “unity” Obama will forgive.

I wasn’t upset when Ford pardoned Richard Nixon. Nixon resigned. But if this administration walks on it’s crimes because of an Obama pardon, I will be livid.

  7. Question, when this man looks in the mirror, is there a reflection?

  8. RD, I’d post this in an open thread or send it to you personally, but can’t find a place to do it. Campbell Brown did a piece on sexism and thought you might find it as objectionable as I do: http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/12/02/campbell.brown.rendell/index.html

  9. Well, in everything I heard from my friends who were strong hillary supporters that went over to the dark side of the farce, they were all hoping for positive SCOTUS positions, if his promised appointments to SCOTUS are anything like what’s going on right now, ROE v Wade is dead and I intend to annoy them forever

  10. I guess the people in that chicago apt bldg will have no heat again this year along with the rest of the country.
Gee isn’t it funny Governor Sarah Palin’s who was so stupid according to msm state is the only one where the people get a rebate from the oil companies.
Tell me again how she would not have been good for the country as vice president.
Will we have to use pony dung for heat from now on?
The oil companies got all they could while the could and now can walk away richer then ever with no problem.
Hey backtrack the food prices rose due to the oil prices, I have not seen food prices come down. Has anyone else?

WOMEN,MEN WHO SUPPORT THEM, AND COUNTRY BEFORE PARTY ALWAYS

    PUMAS,BUBBAS, AND THOSE PEOPLE RULE

  11. OBAMA SUCKS-Plain and simple!

  12. You just can’t make this stuff up, can you?

  13. Kat – I literally gasped when I saw this. I know I shouldn’t be shocked, but DAMN.

I have another changety-change post that will complement this one – I’ll put it up later.

Holy crap. I mean, there is no way that anyone but Obama’s megadonors are pushing for this. It benefits no one but them.

    We told you so.

  14. One more from the Gypper. LOL! That’s one to remember. Obama is doing pretty much what I expected–if anything, I was worried that he might appoint Republicans to the cabinet. Anyone who expected Obama to keep any of his promises is a major league naif who would fall for just about anything. It’s too bad they doomed the rest of us to this nightmare.

  15. Oil companies are manipulating the price to kill or lessen political will for decreasing our dependence on their product. They know the public has a very short attention span.

As for Barack, I still know little about him due to our failed media – what I do know, is his tendency toward flipping on key votes when pressured — Barack votes to benefit himself, and nothing more. I’ve seen nothing thus far to cause me to believe otherwise.

  16. Dakinikat,

I heard an interesting interview on NPR yesterday. Terry Gross talked to a young evangelical leader.

He talked about Obama’s outreach to the evangelicals and how there were a lot of people who canvassed telling people “I’m an evangelical and I’m against abortion. I’m voting for Obama.” Their understanding of Obama is that he will push very hard for “abortion reduction.” They don’t have any concerns about his SCOTUS picks either.

I think liberal O-bot Terry Gross was a little bit taken aback. Personally, I read Audacity of Hope and it was clear to me that Obama doesn’t has little real concern for the woman’s point of view on the abortion issue. I’ve never heard him talk about the moral issue that women should have a right to control over their own bodies–only about the concerns for the fetus.

  17. I hear Obama is planning to let the Bush tax cuts continue also.

  18. I hate Obama! The lying s.o.b.!!!!!!!!!!

  19. By the time Obama gets to appoint a Supreme Court nominee, he will have reneged on so much it will just be expected that he can choose someone in the mold of Alito and Roberts. Who knows if he thinks Roe should be sent to the states.

  20. BB – At least until 2010, when they expire by law. He went back on that promise really, really quickly.

You know what is amazing to me? I haven’t heard one whisper about any of the older, more liberal SC justices retiring during Obama’s term. And Roe v. Wade has not been mentioned ONCE since the election of the most Historical-Est Preznit evah.

Wouldn’t you think they’d retire during his term so he can appoint Supreme Court Justices that would keep Roe v. Wade safe?

Hey, Lady Obamabots: You’ve been bamboozled.

  21. “We told you so”

No, that’s not quite the right way to say it.

    WE TOLD YOU SO!

    Fixt.

  22. he won’t close gitmo
    he won’t leave iraq
    he won’t renegotiate nafta
he won’t negate the bush tax cuts for the top 1%
he won’t tax oil windfall profits
    he already screwed fisa

  23. i am in moderation :-(

  24. I don’t know why wordpress moderated that one. Maybe it was the “screwed” word?

  25. taggles why do you always end up in moderation?

  26. I hate to say “we told you so” but…

    WE TOLD YOU SO, ASSHOLES!!!

  27. I almost never get moderated, even when I say “racist.” But the other day some innocuous post of mine did end up in moderation. Who can explain the whims of the spam filter???

  28. Obama is the black version of John McCain.

  29. Jmac, on December 3rd, 2008 at 2:19 pm Said:

. . .Who knows if he thinks Roe should be sent to the states.

Jmac — fact is, that if B0 is consistent on legal theory (and granted, that is a BIG “if” because his legal theory philosophy seems as murky and vague as everything else about him with the exception of his ego & smugness) he would want the question of the legality of abortion to be decided by the states the same way he thinks the question of the validity of same sex marriages should be decided by the states. So, yeah, I’m glad the most liberal justices will not be retiring from the Court.

  30. I had to listen to so much crap about McCain and his support of
    “tax cuts for the wealthy”
    Stupid, stupid Obots..

Hey — he’s a cool black dude. That’s how he’s different. He’s historic, you know? White people get to assuage their guilt without effort.
And besides, haven’t you heard? He’s only *pretending” to be center-right so that he can really lead from the left and no one will notice.
    Haven’t you heard that yet?

I hate him already. I don’t have to wait until January to hate him.

  32. I can only say I told ya so often. We’ve got to come up with an new phrase.

    “You got served” maybe?

By the way, did anyone else get that email from Hillary about SOS Children’s Villages. Apparently, she’s already hard at work for the children of the world–like we knew she would be.

Oh, and Bill’s coming on CNN sometime today to talk about HRC.

  33. catarina: respectfully, no. Obama is the black version of George W. Bush

  34. angienc
isn’t Stevens about to keel over?

    yes, of course!

  36. MABlue — I never hate to say “I told you so.” Those stupid mofos SHOULD HAVE LISTENED TO ME IN THE FIRST PLACE!.

  37. I know John McCain. John McCain is a Maverick I know well. You, Barack Obama, are no Maverick.

  38. The Italian government has rolled out a plan to bolster Italy’s economy. Here’s an important facet:

    Would this work here?

  39. catarina: Stevens was born in 1920 — so, he is 88 years old, which would make him 92 in 2012. Seems unlikely that he can stay on the bench until then, but I know nothing about the man’s health, and the fact is, he can’t be “forced” to step down short of impeachment.
Personally, I kind of like his “you’ll have to carry me out of here feet first” attitude. Shows he is still sharp enough to know how iffy the prospect of a B0 appointment is, which definitely makes him sharper then the Obots.

  40. Stevens may be ready to keel over, but he ain’t ready to retire!

  41. back to work for a while!

  42. mad
    the guy plays tennis!
    warms my little pro-choice heart!

  43. catarina – LOLOLOLOL!

Honey, that deficit would be GONE!!!

  44. Justice Stevens sounds so interesting. Has anyone met him? I know Heidi said that she’d met the Justices once.

  45. Where is Happy Black Guy when you need him?

  46. “one more from the Gypper”

    Ha!

What did they expect from the American Idol presidential candidate? Oh wait, moonbeams and ponies, that’s right. Quite funny how they insist that Republicans are knuckle-dragging morons. They may wish to ask for whom the knuckle drags.

  47. Alex, I’ll take Obama Broken Promises for $800.

Asbestos in their apartments, record unemployment, high crime, and no winter heating.

What are the broken promises to Obama’s state senate constituents?

If the MSM had gotten their pencils out of their story poopers, all these new broken promises wouldn’t be coming as a surprise.

  48. Micki – Don’t invoke it! If you say its name three times it will appear!

Alice – “For whom the knuckle drags!” LOLOLOLOL

  49. Myiq:

Why not call people by what they are? Was that really a fix from your part, or are you just giving these suckers a break?

  50. I love Happy Guy! He is such a happy guy!

  51. Oh crap, Micki, now you’ve done it.

    HBG on the previous thread.

    SIGH.

  52. Prolix again hits one out of the park!!

  53. Ha. Dak writes – how long are progressives going to be able to take one more for the Gypper?

O’s already getting a school named after him. Reagan didn’t have the press behind him like Obama and I don’t think Reagan-mania came close to the blind adoration we’re seeing. For gripes sake, William Safire wrote the next generation is already being termed Gen O.

    Pass the bucket.

  54. O/T, but I just noticed that I have not done one productive thing today! I think I have set a record even for me.

  55. Micki – at 2:45 writes “Where is Happy Black Guy when you need him?”

He’s over at Tenn Guerilla Woman trashing the Confluence:

The folks over at the Confluence continue to talk amongst themselves about how Obama is a woman hater somehow, but it’s just not true and it never was.”

—–Only now he’s signing himself Hopeful Black Guy. Ohh…. maybe there’s a hint of doubt going from Happy to ‘Hopeful’.

  56. Hi Everybody!

I don’t have much time to post, but I do enjoy my daily Confluence fix. I’m home early today, so I’m checking in.

First, before I forget, Happy Belated B-Day to Bostonboomer (from one to another).

There was a puff piece recently in WaPo entitled, “Much to his Chagrin, Plain Old Barack is Gone,” wherein Obie “lament(s) the way his public rise has infringed upon his personal space.” (gag me!)

Indicative of the work ethic we can expect from our new Dear Leader, there is this:

“Obama’s typical day as president-elect follows a routine that is necessarily spare: breakfast at home with his daughters, a trip to the gym, six or seven hours at his downtown transition office, and evening at home.”

Don’t you all wish you had a six or seven hour work day?

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/11/23/AR2008112302505.html

  57. Jmac — the next generation shouldn’t be termed “Gen O” the Gen Y’ers who voted for his @ss should be renamed Gen O as it fits them to a “t” — stupid, shallow, self-absorbed a$$hats who can’t think for themselves and who have never had to work a day in their lives. No wonder they love O so much — he is the perfect reflection of themselves.

  58. Jmac – He’s so needy. Typical man.

    ;-)

  59. Nell – Don’t worry, when he is President, he will “change” that workday to a less burdensome four or five hours.

    Just like Dubya.

  60. Okay, I am changing my screen name to read “Amazing Cindy Crawford”.

If Angry Black Guy can change from that to Happy and Hopeful that easily I wish to do the same.

  61. Regency – how about, PUNKED! cause the bots got punked for sure.

  62. I’m waiting for the announcement that all the calendars will start over at year 1 after the B0 is sworn in — you know, year 1 of the O era — as in B.C./A.D. — before Christ & in the year of our lord — only this time it will have to be B.O. (before Obama) and A.C.D.D. — anno carus dux ducis — in the year of our dear leader.

  63. Exactly, madamab. I immediately thought of W when I read that WaPo article. Short workdays and long vacations.

  64. Angie – Gen X, Gen Y, Gen Z – (O for zero)

  65. alice – for whom the knuckle drags – classic!

  66. Jmac — I like that Gen Zero! That’s a pretty apt description too.

  67. I may now have to kill myself. I need Catarina by my side to talk me down. I do NOT know how I missed this, but I just heard an add on BBC radio for “Barack Obama: The Musical”.

BTW: sorry about the HBG thing. If I wish for BO to go away, do you think *that* will happen, too?

  68. Micki: I wonder who they will choose to pick Rev. Wright for a singalong?

  69. LOL — Barack Obama: The Musical?!?!?!?!?! No need to kill yourself, the world is going to kill itself. Really — the universe cannot allow us to get away with this stupidity. It’s time to start the whole thing over.

  70. angie: I am busy building the Ark as we speak!

  71. Pat J. Damon Wayans? Maybe Eddie Murphy. Eddie can do old.

Did you see the SNL sketch about the Barack Obama Variety Show? They did it when BO had that 30 minute “message” to the American People. Keenan Thompson did Rev. Wright. It was pretty funny. :)

  72. Pat J — whatever happened to Darwin’s law about “survival of the fittest”? If that is true, how the hell did mankind evolve into Obots? Shouldn’t nature have weeded these morons out of the gene pool?
Really, time for a do-over — the civilization experiment has played out.

  73. angie: The Obots are spores. And if we are examples of the best of evolution, God help us all! A full makeover is definitely in order. Except for Hugh Jackman. He is perfect!

  74. Micki: I missed that show. Probably when I was ordering my Obama coin collection and commemorative plates.

  75. angienc,
    LOL!

There’s been some great posts here lately.

  76. Just when you think things cannot possibly get more weird, along comes Barack Obama: The Musical.

I’m sure that the Pointer Sisters will be in the sound track singing their “Yes we can” number.

  77. dont do it micki!
there’s so much to live for!

good cheese.. the cat…the Bush tax cuts!

  78. Pat J: I ordered the Official BO Greek Columns custom fit to my condo from shutey. The shipping chargers were at b*tch.

  79. I couldn’t bring myself to read the article but there was a headline on fox news about a town in Alabama having an “Obama Day” where offices are closed. A bit fucking presumptuous, I say.

  80. Catarina. Thank God (wipes chicken grease from face) you are here.

  81. He has not done one f*cking thing to as yet for crying out loud!
Name one thing! One! And his daily poop does not count.

  82. You know, interestingly, the ad for the BO Musical was voiced by an African voice. I wonder if his step-brother and his aunt will be characters? Maybe they show up and plaintively singa song asking why MO’s mom gets to move into the White House.

  83. Micki

those super-hot wings work every time. instant attitude adjustment

now please tell me you made up the musical thing..it’s all too surreal.

  84. No, I’m totally serious. I am listening to the newshour on BBC World Service on XM/Sirius. I was just here listening about “Pokiston” and Kashmir and, I shit you not, there was an ad for Barack Obama–the Musical. I’m trying to get confirmation on The Google, but I’m having trouble finding an actual link. I’m also not trying that hard, I must admit.

Next time, throw Brie. I’ll get a snack and I’ll come down off the ledge.

  85. Sigh. I love cheese. I am making a brie risotto this weekend for dinner guests. I am looking forward to it.

  86. As upset as I want to be at Obama, Bush, Rove and gang are coming out with the statement that we would not have invaded if we’d known the truth about WMD’s. Kristol writes:
The President would not in fact have gone to war if he had known what seems to be the case, that Saddam did not have a functioning weapons program at the time.”

What a pile of crap! The inspectors were shouting it. Saddam didn’t use chemical weapons against Bush 41 (the chemical weapons we gave him to fight Iran). Why lie in the State of the Union about yellow cake and out a CIA agent whose husband writes about the lie? Bush lied through his teeth and someone needs to fry over the CIA outing.

  87. maybe the musical will have a ghost sequence like Fiddler on the Roof and the typical white grandmother will come back to haunt MO…

  88. But Pat J — why shouldn’t his daily poop count? I’m sure his poop is smarter then the average Obot.

  89. OK. Here we go:
    I think this is it

  90. Jmac what a fucking pile of bullshit.

ohmg Micki I want that risotto recipe!

  91. NEW POST UP!!

  92. My links are not working!!

  93. OMG, Jmac – I posted about that yesterday at my site!!!

    How DARE they!!!

  94. OK Catarina. I will post it tomorrow. Its at home in the file.

  95. Anyway, for those who are interested, just google Barack Obama musical kenya and you’ll get the bbc story I attempted to link to above. Ok, I’m going up.
