We made calls, sent e-mails, faxed, badgered, implored, pleaded, shouted out of misgivings and they were for naught.

Somehow that “leadership” we craved disappeared. How different would the landscape appear had she spoken out about the vote counting and the sexism that was so keenly on display? This is a woman with a huge following. A woman of such good deeds that to let us sit here careening from the attacks aimed at Palin went unchallenged. How much of a difference could it have made had her moral indignation that the rest of us felt made us aware that yes, there is still a leader present? It did not happen.

Excuses were made for 2012. Her legacy. Her future in the party. The same party that dishonored and beat her into submission. We presented arguments in her defense that to my mind were nothing but excuses. Her seat in the Senate? Wherever is it stated that any of those seats “belong” to one person? It would be risk taking to be sure to stand up and voice her regrets to what we have all witnessed but instead she chose to campaign for this empty suit against what we knew to be true.

As a result, the gays have lost their civil rights in states where possibly her initiative to speak out may have caused a sense of dialogue. We are now bound to accept a president whom we all know will more than likely be a disaster and whose primary “win” went unchallenged. Does this make one a leader who chooses to remain silent?

My admiration is deep for this woman. Make no mistake about that. But until we acknowledge that we have been letdown and not let our iconic affection get in the way, we will always be running in circles.

We need to promote women but they must also promote us.
This may disquiet some but this is how I feel and how I have felt the disappointment of a “win” that may never have had to be.

I personally never thought Hillary was perfect. I did not expect her to stand up and throw her career away with both hands for our sakes. I did not think she would do so, because she wants and needs to be in public life. She is a politician, and she remains one of the best we have. There are so few remaining that have any principles or leadership qualities.

What she does next will be very interesting to see. I don’t think anyone knows. But I do think she followed her own convictions and did what she thought was right. I don’t agree with her, but I respect her right to make those decisions for herself.

I said before election day that this place was a refuge. I voted with a heavy heart realizing that the dream of a Hillary Clinton Presidency was a long shot if Obama won.

I’m not a politician and I don’t understand political strategy but I wanted Clinton to stand up for me as I did for her. She didn’t do that and yes I’m disappointed. As I’ve told numerous people, I’ll get over it. Disappointment comes with living but it sure doesn’t ease the sadness.

A blog is very hierarchical. Much more hierarchical than online forums. In a blog, a small group of people has full control over the content of the main posts. This group also has full control over the comments, which is understandable.

Commenters cannot start threads (unlike in online forums), do not have profiles (like an about page in blogs), and cannot even edit their own comments. Is it any surprise that they get upset when their comments disappear without any explanation? I suggest that when a moderator delete a non-tr0ll comment, that the moderator post a short explanation of why the comment got deleted. A simple thing like that can go a long way toward preventing misunderstandings. If the main bloggers here admit to getting their feelings hurt by some comments, do you think it is any different for the commenters?

So, how about starting an online forum? Main articles can still be posted, but a forum will be less hierarchical. Of course, those who are not admins and mods, will still be in the hands of the powers-that-be, but the rank-and-file will have more privileges. Much as I hate DU, I recognize that they have a first-rate forum where topics are well-organized, Threads in a forum are also more focused, instead of consisting of widely ranging topics as in the case of threads here. You can recruit some more regulars to be moderators, thereby easing your moderating burden. This would also be forward-looking, if you want to be more organized to achieve your goals.

But I think Hillary needs us right now. IMO, Palin has a lot to recommend her, but she IS very conservative, so any Hillary lovers who aren’t going republican, I invite you to reach out to Hillary as I am going to. She’s my hero, and I’m not going to forget her. And I think it will help me in these dark times to reach out to her.
