Smoke ‘em while you got ‘em

Obama is a liar.  He said that he would quit smoking when he began running for president at the request of his wife:

When Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., officially enters the stressful world of presidential politics this Saturday, he will be trying his hardest to resist the urge to smoke those Marlboro Red cigarettes he has relied upon for years.

Instead, he has pledged to his wife, Michelle, that he will chew Nicorette gum.

Well I guess Obama can’t stick to any pledge he makes, so why should this one be any different.  Before I start I’ll take for granted that pointing out that he smokes is somehow racist, so don’t even bother with the accusations.  I’ve already taken it under advisement.

As a long time smoker myself, I can attest to the difficulty of quitting.  But I did it (over 1 year now!).  So have millions of other people.  Also as a former smoker, I don’t mean to imply that it in any way makes you bad person if you continue to smoke.  It just shows how powerfully addictive the drug in the cigarette is.  Lying about it when you are running for public office is an entirely different thing.  That does show a lack of integrity, and in Obama’s case, fits a pattern of misleading the public.  This is what makes me believe that he has no character whatsoever.  He lies when it suits his needs, plain and simple.

I’m also taken aback somewhat by his reason for quitting, or rather his wife’s reason for him quitting.  He says that Michelle warned him to quit before running for President.  I think this shows a complete lack of character on her part as well.  I mean, she doesn’t want him to do it for his health per se, or for the fact that it might be dangerous, or set a bad example for his two young daughters.  No, for Michelle and Barack, its all about their own ambition, and how others will perceive them.

“I’ve never been a heavy smoker,” Obama told the Chicago Tribune. “I’ve quit periodically over the last several years. I’ve got an ironclad demand from my wife that in the stresses of the campaign I don’t succumb. I’ve been chewing Nicorette strenuously.”

Obama aides say that the main reason Michelle Obama has been pushing so hard for her husband to quit the demon weed is for health reasons, but of course for any public figure, one also has to factor in the image of the habit — either out of concerns he would be setting a bad example, or that he may turn off some voters. (you might say he’d do anything to win)

Interesting how the media changed the description of his smoking habit from this report in Feb. 07, when he said “I’ve never been a heavy smoker”, to now, when it seems that it is harder than he imagined to quit…

The presumptive Democratic nominee has been open about his smoking past: Once a heavy smoker, he publicly gave up the habit, per his wife’s request, to run for president.

Since quitting, Obama has indicated in the past that he has “fallen off the wagon” but before today was not specific about how recent his smoking was. (emphasis mine)

I guess that lends credibility to him not being able to give it up…I guess.  Anyway I have a sneaking suspicion that this didn’t come out just because Obama felt like sharing…oh no, as with everything negative about him, it was forced out.  This time by his medical records….

The release of a scant one-page summary for 21 years of care brought some criticism to the Obama campaign – especially when compared to the thousands of pages of medical records released by McCain. Obama promised reporters that if there are additional health-related questions, his campaign would make that information available. “In terms of additional records, if there are particular things that people have questions about, then we’d be happy to give that information,” he said

And if I may toot my own horn, I’ve been saying this about his scant medical records for weeks.  A smoker can recognize one of their own.  But even when he is caught in a lie about smoking Obama refuses to take responsibility.  This time it is the fault of other smokers around him who, one imagines, tempt him to “bum” one off of them…

Obama said he’s bummed a cigarette a couple of times during the campaign.

“But I figure, seeing as I’m running for president, I need to cut myself a little slack,” he said.

Nothing is too good for Senator Obama!  And give me a break!  His ego is so huge that even though he has FAILED to quit smoking, he feels the need to give other people advice on how to do it (I guess they don’t deserve a little slack–even if, you know, they are losing their house or their pension in this economic crisis).

Quitting smoking didn’t create “huge withdrawal symptoms,” the Illinois senator said, partly because he smoked only seven or eight cigarettes a day at his peak. His wife, Michelle, pressured him to quit, he said.

Obama’s advice for those trying to kick the habit? “Eliminate certain key connections — that first cigarette in the morning, or after a meal, or with a drink,” he said. “If you can eliminate those triggers, that should help.”

Earth to Barry:  You didn’t suffer from withdrawals because you never quit.  But seriously, how can any self-respecting eco loving, environmentalist progressive continue to support a man who has such little disregard for the environment.  Because in case you didn’t know, smoking is BAD for the planet;

It is fairly obvious that smoking pollutes the air and quite often the ground. However, it is not always obvious how or how much smoking pollutes. Cigarettes contain over 4000 chemicals which are exhaled and released into the air and the atmosphere. Approximately 30% of North Americans are smokers, and the percentage goes much higher in developing countries, which means there is a massive amount of pollution being released into the air every day. Trees are often compared to the lungs in our bodies because they perform basically the same functions as our lungs do on a global scale. With all of the pollutants that the trees filter out for us already it seems almost crazy to add more to the air that doesn’t need to be added. We need to breathe, but no one needs to smoke.

The pollution caused by cigarettes does not stop in our bodies or the air; it also affects the land we live on and the water that we drink. Millions of cigarette butts are discarded onto the ground every day. Every year in California the state has a statewide cleanup and cigarette butts account for almost half of the waste that is collected. These are only the ones that are picked up in one state and millions more are never picked up. They end up in the rivers and lakes where fish and animals eat them by mistake and quite often die from it. The rest are left on the ground to decompose which will take an average of 25 years while all of the chemicals and additives leach into the ground and pollute the soil and the plants. If you are going to smoke please consider this information before your throw your cigarette butts on the ground. It looks unattractive, it is a major fire hazard in dry weather, and it is extremely harmful to the environment.

So not only does smoking pollute the air, it releases toxins into the ground, poisons animals, and is a fire hazard, among other things.  But maybe the worst part about it, given the presidential hopefuls’ call for energy conservation, and helping people around the world, is the actual production of the cigarettes themselves:

Probably the most impacting aspect of cigarettes is actually producing them. There is the land used to grow the crops all over the world that could be put to better use by planting more trees or food for starving children in third world countries. These crops are also often sprayed with a lot of harmful pesticides and chemicals because tobacco is a very fragile plant and is likely to pick up disease. It also takes a lot of trees to produce and package cigarettes. Cigarette manufacturing uses four miles of paper an hour just for rolling and packaging cigarettes. One tree is wasted for every three hundred cigarettes produced. Those trees could be filtering out the pollutants already in the air instead of being chopped down for the cause of adding new ones. There is still the energy and water wasted in manufacturing cigarettes that needs to be considered and with soil depletion and chemical wastage added on top of that it becomes clear that manufacturing cigarettes has an enormous strain on the environment.

Shame on you Barack Obama.

  1. Obama should have starred in “Airplane!”

“Looks like I picked a bad week to give up smoking!”

  2. Smoker or not, he still does not deserve to be president. And throwing stones at McCain’s glass house over his health issues only invites more scrutiny. Oh wait, this is Obama we are talking about! Can Do No Wrong! What was I thinking?

  3. Leeeaaave Baaraaack Aloooone!

He can’t help it if he is an addict. We need more government programs to help people like him quit, people with no will power. It is racist to ask Barack to quit smoking without more help from the government.

  4. GREAT POST !! I have to say when I am coaching quitting one of the best incentives is knowing and of course experiencing the benefits of quitting !

From the American Lung Association :
    Benefits of Quitting Smoking :

When smokers quit, within twenty minutes of smoking that last cigarette the body begins a series of changes.

    At 20 minutes after quitting:

    blood pressure decreases

    pulse rate drops

body temperature of hands and feet increases

    At 8 hours:

carbon monoxide level in blood drops to normal

oxygen level in blood increases to normal

    At 24 hours:

chance of a heart attack decreases

    At 48 hours:

    nerve endings start regrowing

ability to smell and taste is enhanced

    The first year after quitting:

At 2 weeks to 3 months:

    circulation improves

    walking becomes easier

    lung function increases

    1 to 9 months:

coughing, sinus congestion, fatigue, shortness of breath decreases

    1 year:

excess risk of coronary heart disease is decreased to half that of a smoker

    Long-term Benefits of Quitting

    At 5 years:

from 5 to 15 years after quitting, stroke risk is reduced to that of people who have never smoked.

    At 10 years:

risk of lung cancer drops to as little as one-half that of continuing smokers

risk of cancer of the mouth, throat, esophagus, bladder, kidney, and pancreas decreases

    risk of ulcer decreases

    At 15 years:

risk of coronary heart disease is now similar to that of people who have never smoked

risk of death returns to nearly the level of people who have never smoked

    from other sources :
    Health Benefits Quitting Smoking
When you take that last puff of a cigarette and are on your way to total freedom, there are many benefits that you will enjoy. Unfortunately, you may also feel as if you are leaving a bad symptom.

However, keeping in mind your intense motivation (Quit Smoking Motivation) to be free now, choose from the following list the health benefits you would like to start enjoying immediately once you stop smoking. Number your choices by priority:

Hands and feet become warmer from improved circulation.
Blood pressure and pulse rate lower and approach normal.
Mouth and hair no longer smell of smoke.
Senses of taste and smell improve.
Cough disappears and phlegm production returns to normal.
    Stamina increases significantly.
    Energy level is higher.
Field of vision increases by 15 to 20 percent.
Risk of all diseases caused by smoking is reduced – emphysema, heart attacks, and cancers of all types

Emotional Benefits of Being Free of Smoking:
You can now begin to sort out your emotional attachment to your “best friend” – the one who is betraying you. Your nicotine-drenched brain has made it difficult for you to evaluate your feelings about cigarettes.

You were forced to say you enjoyed them, because in all other matters you are a rational being. And why would a rational being who recognizes that smoking is unpleasant, irritating, and harmful do it anyway? Many people admit that they often smoke against their own will.

Now number in order of priority the emotional benefits of quitting smoking you will get minutes after you break free:

    You have improved your self-image.
You have put yourself in charge of your life.
You have a feeling of accomplishment and self-respect.
You are becoming happier, less depressed.
Never again will you have to plan every activity around cigarette smoking.
Never again will you have to make excuses, or feel guilty about needing cigarettes.
Never again will you have to go back into the house to be sure all cigarettes are extinguished.
Never again will you have to take inventory of smoking paraphernalia before you leave your home or office.
Now you can hold on to the excitement of being a winner and bask in a sense of well-being.

    Personal Social Benefits
In addition to the physical and emotional benefits, think of the social benefits that take place immediately after you quit smoking. Number in order of priority some of the social benefits that you will enjoy:

You now project an image of self-control that is not available to smokers.
Your house, car, and clothes don’t smell of cigarettes.
You will have more time to devote to family and friends.
You will not become a burden on your family members because of illnesses related to smoking cigarettes.
When smokers are confronted with the harsh reality of the problems – both health related and social – that their smoking habit brings for themselves and others, the majority admit that they have always intended to become non-smokers, but that there has always been an excuse to put it off to a “better time”.

All smokers’ energy levels are depleted because of lack of oxygen in the bloodstream. Oxygen levels decrease by about 15 percent when smoking, to be replaced by carbon monoxide.

When you become a non-smoker your energy levels will increase and your senses will be heightened, especially your sense of taste and sense of smell as your nasal passages clear.

When you become a non-smoker, both men and women experience significant and immediate health benefits of quitting smoking. The body systems begin to return to normal and the body immediately begins to repair the damage.

  5. If The One Penis is smoking, will smoking become kewl again?

Of course, smoking is all the rage here in KY [although we're making headway into quitting], so then smoking couldn’t possibly be kewl if dumb hick hillbilly rac*sts smoke, could it? It’s all so confusing since the DNC threw out their Rulz Book.

  6. See I disagree with you. Obama doesn’t lie when it suits him or benefits him. He is a pathological liar and just can’t help himself. He lies when he doesn’t need to lie and in many instances where lying is the worst possible course of action. Because of his constant lying he lost my vote long ago and I am sure he has lost many, many votes along the way. At some point people are going to have to wake up to the fact that he is just a dishonest person who hangs out with other dishonest people. I know everyone thinks that all politicians are dishonest but I have never seen one like this. From that regard he certainly is a cut above the rest.

  7. Obama has lied about quite a bit more than his cigarette addiction.

For starters, Barry calling Hillary Clinton dishonest, and his campaign calling the Clintons racist. Add to that his opposite statements on positions; these, according to the audience he currently faces. Also, Wright, Ayers, Rezco…well we all know this story.

The man will DO OR SAY ANYTHING to gain power.

  8. My Ex started using Nicorette – and got addicted to them. he was prescribing them to himself and chewed them while smoking. To this day I wonder if it’s what destroyed his liver and killed him at the age of 51.

  9. Hubby says his hillbilly grandpa [who was a truly cool person] used to smoke ACORNS, and my hillbilly dad says lots of his family used to grind ACORNS into flour and make bread over an open fire with lots of smoke to provide flavor.

    How’s them nuts?

  10. I agree with gregoryp,he is a pathological liar.He likely feels the odds are it’s safer to lie in any given situation, because he has enough insight to know that if he was being honest, the evil intent will rear its ugly head. I think he is doing so well because many people are just too naive to know any better. He is the ultimate bambozzler.

  12. Comment by Thinker | 2008-10-08 11:46:26

So Obama finally admits to still smoking cigs?

I’m still waiting for him to admit that he smokes a few rocks every now and then.

“A couple of times”?? Well, we all know how Obama loves to lie, so a couple of times means once an hour. I swear, during his last debate with Hillary, he looked like he couldn’t wait to run out of there to light up. I call it the Smoker’s Look.

lol @ at the people that this clown is healthier than McCain.

    ** chuckles **

  13. woops, bamboozler

  14. Piper and Trig want to know what “smokin’ ” is. I made them go take a nap.

  15. Obama will be sneaking cig’s in the Lincoln bedroom. He already said he wanted to take the big screen TV out of there because he did not think it appropriate for the room. But just you wait, when Michelle and the crum crunchers are asleep, he’ll be slinking into the Lincoln Bedroom and his Marlboro Red’s will be under the matress.

  16. Obama expects to win. People have assured him as much. He feels free to say and behave in any manner he so chooses as a direct result of that entitlement. He has the MSM, the entertainment industry, half of Europe, and the stupid talking heads on his side. How can he lose?

So even if he has backtracked on every issue he once embraced, who’s watching. This man is getting a little tired of having to bide his time with debates between now and November. When the outcome is practically in the bag, the election is basically over, the opponent a nonentity, and the public in your thrall, this having to go through the ordinary motions is irritating. If he wants to light up every so often, big deal. He has earned the right to do whatever he wants.

He is just a smidgen close to taking the oath. As a matter of fact, why not right now for God’s sake. This will not only clear the stress but more than likely assures his victory over the nicotine king. Come on!

  17. An addictive personality – yet another way Jr.Jr is – well, like W!

  18. Anyone questioning Obama about his smoking habits is just another ra*cist. According to Roland Martin. And his take on just about anything Obama is good enough for me.

  19. here’s a little chuckle for ya…

  20. I can’t believe that McCain hasn’t already received a call from Pelosi telling him to suspend, he doesn’t have the votes.

  21. Pat, yes, he really expects to win. I read somewhere an analogy I agree with. BO is behaving like a poker player who’s sure he has a winning hand. Every time the betting comes around he raises the stakes. He doesn’t do anything that could cement his win — like ask HRC to be his running mate, or vote no on FISA, or back the HOLC — he’s just sitting back smug with his hand.
Ace up his sleeve or bluffing?
We’ll find out on Nov 5.

  22. Pat, did Roland actually played the “R” card on the cigarettes? I do know it has been used early on against those talking about Obama’s use of crack – you know, those preparation years for Harward

  23. Carolynn – the Lincoln Memorial is as close to the Lincoln bedroom that he will get.

Now, Pat may own a Lincoln that she is driving him and his brood back to Chicago in.

  24. votermom
Sorry to say, I feel this game has been raided from the start. We may think it’s a game – but the outcome is been planned for years.

  25. I’ve heard the press isn’t allowed to take pictures of him when he is smoking — and funnily enough — they all oblige!

  26. Carolynn, he can’t smoke in the white house. DC law bans smoking in public buildings. I’d say there isn’t a more public building as the people’s house.

  27. CB someone posted yesterday at RCP – readers article – the first “speculation” that McCain “will drop a day before the election – for the good of the country”. I am sure those rumors will intensify – and them AP ill start reporting them Election Day, like they did on Hillary – during PR’s primary.

  28. edgeoforever: Not officially, no. But any criticism of The One that Roland Martin can counter usually involves ra*ce. Not enough that he is unqualified, only the reservation about him must be labeled as ra*cist. This is the way Roland thinks so I doubt I would have been too much off the ground in attributing that to him. He is a moron.

  29. Gary — it’s not r@cist to point out that BO smokes, it is r@cist to point out that he smokes menthols. :-)

  35. a musical interlude…

  36. Pat – is he going to be able to smoke in the Mazda??????

You might have to borrow McCain’s “sidekick” for him to ride in.

  37. Madonna has just “put down” Sarah Palin. This nails it for me. I have been waiting for Madge to declare. She even did this without have her picture taken and her legs together for once. As a serious performer and political guru, Madonna’s take is all important in how I proceed. This is a woman of high moral character and an exceptional “artist”. Holy Mother of God!! Madonna for God’s sake.

  38. No smoking in the Mazda and no stops along the way. We are driving straight through to Chicago, no pitstops, no sight seeing, no butt breaks. If you think I wish to spend anymore time in that car with those two you are off your meds!

  39. Carol: read the link to the NR article on Kurtz’s trip to the Daley Library archives of CAC papers.

As for smoking, I’d venture to say there was some smoke and flames around some of those papers before Kurtz was allowed to view them. More shades of Bush with his military records.

  40. hey, y’all. Not about smoking but I’m sitting here close to tears. I mentioned yesterday that my best friend of 30 years had fallen in line with Obama. Well, it turns out she actually HAS drunk the Kool-Aid. We have never disagreed on politics before, and this is part of an email I just received from her:

what bothers me most is that someone as thoughtful and bright as you
can feel so disenfranchised from the process and give your time to
    conspiracy theorists and the like.

So, guys. I hate to tell you this but you’re all conspiracy theorists.

I can’t talk to my husband about politics, I can’t talk to my best friend about politics. My mom gets it, but she’s about the only one. And you guys. *sigh* This election has left me feeling so alone.

  41. ((((Julie))))

  42. It now all fits together, the planetarium projector earmark is for the staged “ascension” of “That One” to the heavens. With a puff of BZero’s own smoke, he ascends and the great possum seal appears. Can red-dyed maple syrup on the palms be far behind?

  43. Julie…

    it will be alright,

    atleast I hope so.

  44. We should be encouraging him to smoke more. Packs and packs more from here to election day. A lit stogie between each finger 24/7. Enroll him in one of those “who can stuff the most firey ciggies in ones mouth contest and pray he sticks with it. Of course with such the big lying mouth he has swathed across that smug face, he would look like a gatling gun. I’m sure that big tobacco would “cough up” for the campaign.

  45. If you want a little giggle, check this out:

    semi-automatic.
    ammunition.

what in the name of the seven bald steers do they think they’re talking about?

Whether it’s semi-automatic (semi-auto means you don’t have to put a new bullet in between each shot) or not is a function of the weapon, not the bullet.

Bullets come actuated by a primer in the center, which is the commonest kind, or by a rimfire mechanism. That topmost picture is a centerfire .45 ACP. That second photo is .41 rimfire.

There’s no such thing as semi-automatic ammunition. You still have to put the bullets in the weapon (or the magazine) by hand.

    http://www.correntewire.com/unbelievable_just_un_be_fracking_lievable

Somebody should tell the author of that piece that “ACP” stands for “Automatic Colt Pistol” and refers to ammuntion made for semi-automatic pistols.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.45_ACP

  46. Julie — I’m so sorry to hear about your friend. That sucks. I’ve never lived through an election that was so divisive and nasty.

It WILL be alright, although not in the greatest way. If Obama wins the escalation of all our current problems will be so bad that not even the obots will be able to continue their delusional adoration. Of course by then you probably will not even feel like saying ‘I told you so’. But if your friend is a reasonable person when not in the deathgrip of KA madness, she will realize it when she sees the whole country suffering.

I hate when people say any sort of back-handed compliments like that,it’s condescending. One response is, if you think I’m so thoughtful and bright, then why aren’t you willing to take a closer more careful look at your own beliefs?

I don’t change my opinions just because a friend has a different opinion, but when someone I think is smart and has been my friend esp. for a long time, and I trust them, then when they voice a differing opinion I do pay attention and take some care thinking over my own beliefs.

BTW, she told me to read Obamas books if I wanted answers to some of my more burning questions. I told her I wasn’t interested in his version of the truth, I wanted someone objective to search for the real truth behind his books.

  51. I’ve got something to make you giggle to. From a NYT editorial today:

“Senator John McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin have been running one of the most appalling campaigns we can remember,” the Tuesday editorial said. “They have gone far beyond the usual fare of quotes taken out of context and distortions of an opponent’s record — into the dark territory of race-baiting and xenophobia. Senator Barack Obama has taken some cheap shots at Mr. McCain, but there is no comparison.”

Guess the primary where the NYT characterized Hillary’s campaign as the “most appalling campaign ever” on a daily basis is too long ago for them to remember. I bet a million dollars they are just re-running the exact same article & just substituting McCain’s name for Hillary’s.

I don’t know why your friend would send you an email like this. I’ve had to cut ties with acquaintances but my friends who have decided to back Obama have been smart enough not to argue about this with me. It is unnecessary and it’s not like your one vote can change the outcome of this election. The fact that your good friend can side with a snake oil salesman enough to send you such a nasty email is very telling about the Obamabots. Again, I’m going to go so far as to say that this reminds me of Germany during WWII when followers would sell out their own friends and family members for the cause. It’s very troubling.

  55. Obama opposes McCain’s HOLC plan? Thats funny since all morning his talking blowhards have been claiming that its already in the “rescue” fka “bailout” bill.

  56. Has anyone else noticed that Obama sits down an awful lot? Is that related to smoking somehow?

He always has a barstool to perch on at joint appearances and sat on his stool at the debate last night every chance he got. There were several times during the debate that I noticed that McCain stood next to his chair instead of sitting down.

I had an Aunt that was a smoker and diagnosed with lung cancer at 47 and subsequently died 6 months later. Where are Obama’s medical records?

  63. DV – I was under the impression that she was an undecided voter, so I’ve been sending her stuff. The last piece I sent her was Ani’s essay from NoQuarter, “Depravity, Not Decency”. http://noquarterusa.net/blog/2008/10/06/depravity-not-decency/

She responded to the effect of “Keep sending them but I’m not really buying it.” That started the whole conversation, one I probably should have stopped before it got started. And I’m sure she wasn’t thrilled when I said I thought that the New Republic was just one giant BJ for Obama.

  64. Prolix:

  65. ((((( Julie)))))

never mind it’ll all be over soon

I find a good way with friends is to point to the media being in the bag for BO, then move on to where his money comes from, and then to his backers -Soros, Brez. Pritzker etc, to his backers in corn ethanol, oil, nuclear etc, and on to Wall st.

Then the holding of the DNC convention on MLK’s anniversary, moving the DNC to Chicago, Hillary being forced to run with 2 states less, gerrymandering of Congressional districts, fixing of the caucus calendar.

Then on to BO’s record in Chicago. The Pork, and the poor unheated public housing.
If you like you can throw in his not helping the Kenyan elementary school which was named after him, although he promised to.

and so on, and so on

  66. Of course Obama opposes HOLC. His Wall Street masters will have none of it. They want to be able to get the tax payers to give them the money for a “toxic” loan, but still foreclose on the people living there anyway.

  67. Laurie – I did. That’s what prompted the above response.

And really, y’all, thanks so much for hanging out at this place and being sane, rational people. And RD, if you’re lurking, thanks for being an awesome hostess.

  71. Who’s the Democrat again?

  72. Hate the kool-aid, not those who are under its influence

  73. I went to the Politico article and read some comments. Obama supporters are not and never were Democrats. Anything Obama says is the way to go. Bail out Wall Street? Yes, we can! Bail out Main Street? No we won’t!

  74. Statement From John M.Murtagh On Barack Obama’s Relationship With William Ayers

ARLINGTON, VA — Today, John M. Murtagh made the following statement on Barack Obama’s relationship with William Ayers:

“When I was 9 years-old the Weather Underground, the terrorist group founded by Barack Obama’s friend William Ayers, firebombed my house. Barack Obama has dismissed concerns about his relationship with Ayers by noting that he was only a child when Ayers was planting bombs at the Pentagon and the U.S. Capitol. But Ayers has never apologized for his crimes, he has reveled in them, expressing regret only for the fact that he didn’t do more.

“While Barack Obama once downplayed his relationship with Ayers, today his campaign took that deceit one step further. Barack Obama now denies he was even aware of his friend’s violent past when, in 1995, Ayers hosted a party launching Obama’s political career. Given Ayers’ celebrity status among the left, it’s difficult to believe. The question remains: what did Obama know, and when did he know it? When did Obama learn the truth about his friend? Barack Obama helped Ayers promote his book in 1997, served on charitable boards with him through 2002, and regularly exchanged emails and phone calls with him through 2005. At what point did Barack Obama discover that his friend was an unrepentant terrorist? And if he is so repulsed by the acts of terror committed by William Ayers, why did the relationship continue? Any honest accounting by Barack Obama will necessarily cast further doubt on his judgment and his fitness to serve as commander in chief.

“Barack Obama may have been a child when William Ayers was plotting attacks against U.S. targets — but I was one of those targets. Barack Obama’s friend tried to kill my family.”

In February 1970 John Murtagh’s father was a New York State Supreme Court justice presiding over the trial of the so-called “Panther 21,” members of the Black Panther Party indicted in a plot to bomb New York landmarks and department stores. Early on the morning of February 21, three gasoline-filled firebombs exploded at their home on the northern tip of Manhattan, two at the front door and the third tucked neatly under the gas tank of the family car. The same night, bombs were thrown at a police car in Manhattan and two military recruiting stations in Brooklyn. A few weeks after the attack, the New York contingent of the Weathermen blew themselves up making more bombs in a Greenwich Village townhouse. In late November that year, a letter to the Associated Press signed by Bernardine Dohrn, Ayers’s wife, promised more bombings.

  75. G – Congrats on making it one year !!!

4 years for me — cold turkey – I was reaching almost 3 packs a day of Camel non-filters.

This is just another example of him being a liar – saying one thing and flipping the next.

  76. Obama opposes HOLC…then why did he JUST SAY otherwise TODAY?

Scrambling to repair his image on economic issues, Senator John McCain proposed during Tuesday night’s debate a $300 billion plan authorizing the treasury secretary to buy the mortgages of homeowners in financial trouble and replace them with more affordable loans.

The campaign of Senator Barack Obama quickly countered by saying that the financial rescue plan that President Bush signed into law last week already gave the treasury secretary such power. And, his advisers noted, Mr. Obama recommended such a step in a news conference nearly two weeks ago.

Seriously – isn’t anyone paying attention here?! This is a flip-flop from THIS MORNING!!!

    AAAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!

  77. wait…isn’t Obama’s opposition to the mortgage bailout racist? he says 300 billion is too much…but now i just read Pelosi wants to GIVE wall street another 150 billion.

  78. edgeoforever,

Your site has given me some of the best laughs (your humor…is so you) and some tears (when I think of could have been). Thanks…you perk up the day!

  79. ITA, Mawm. I don’t know where the obot army is coming from but a whole helluva lot of them appear to be former Bush supporters. I’ve been saying for months that even if he wins the Democratic Party will, ultimately, be damaged because the obots are only here for BO. They won’t be sticking around. And so many true believers, life long Dems like myself, have been driven off. The party will be left in a shambles, especially on the local level. I don’t even plan on voting downticket Dems, aside from the rare Mark Warner I’m voting 30% solution from now on.

  80. great photos of Sarah on http://www.gretawire.com

  81. I have found some nice stuff on Pritzker:

“The [sub-prime] financial engineering that created the Wall Street meltdown was developed by the Pritzkers and Ernst and Young, working with Merrill Lynch to sell bonds securitized by sub-prime mortgages,” Timothy J. Anderson, a whistleblower on financial and bank fraud, told me in an interview.

“The sub-prime mortgages,” Anderson said, “were provided to Merrill Lynch, by a nation-wide Pritzker origination system, using Superior as the cash cow, with many millions in FDIC insured deposits. Superior’s owners were to sub-prime lending, what Michael Milken was to junk bonds.”

In other words, if you traced today’s sub-prime crisis back to its origins, you would come upon the role of the Pritzkers and Superior Bank of Chicago./

  82. Julie, yea, I’d recommend not even discussing politics with anyone anymore. I don’t speak to anyone about McCain/Obama unless I know that they were a HIllary Clinton supporter who still thinks Obama is unfit to be president. I’m tired of people around the web comparing us to the Obama Cult. We are completely different. I would’ve supported Obama if he had won fair and square rather than stealing the nomination with the help of the DNC. I think a lot of former Clinton supporters have forgotten about that. Sorry, but I do not forgive and forget that easily. I will be working against Obama until he is sent back to Chicago.

  83. sm77: I saw a headline somewhere just a few minutes ago saying that McCain is supporting HOLC and explicitly giving Hillary credit for it.

Bald-faced play for women’s votes? No doubt. But it sure beats being told, “Wait a minute, sweetie.”

  84. And Pritzker works for Barky.

  85. this is what it has come to…you can not speak his name. Headline from the AP:

McCain rally speaker refers to Obama’s middle name

  86. If Obama doesn’t want anyone saying his middle name he should change it to something else. As long as Hussein is his legal middle name, people have every right to say it.

  87. I am hearing Hill has said this isn’t her plan, there are differences, and Delong is saying it’s bad policy because it gives the financial firms 100 billion more than they deserve or something. I don’t know, didn’t we just give them 700 billion more then they deserved? Does anyone understand this?

  88. tom shales is such a dick

“The snarled ‘that one’ also contributed to McCain’s image as a kind of mean old Scrooge, not so much a battle-scarred warrior as an embittered one,” Shales wrote.

because “mean old scrooge” is so much more polite than “that one”…shales, bite me!

  89. At this moment in time, it would make no difference to what he smoked, if he admitted to be a communist or if he was a child molester. The American people are shook up about the economy and are holding any republican responsible. They do not realise that Obama is a part of the problem.. If in 2005 the legislation that McCain co-sponsored had been enacted we would not be where we are today, but Obama and the Democratic party was AWOL. We would have still had some bad paper at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, but not of the magnitude that is out there today. Plus his ACORN trained thugs are also responsible and so is Barney Franks and his committee. Pennsylvania is creating the terrible Gallup poll numbers. It appears that McCain has lost the women’s vote, plus some support among the elderly. It could be turned around, but McCain will have to list the number of steps that he will take to turn the economy around. Call a press conference and lay them out, step by step by step, in plain english. Target all the important battleground states that he needs to win. He should do two rallies each day (afternoon and evening). Palin to do the same. If possible McCain take one and Palin take the other in that state. Back that up with as much TV and Radio as possible. Americans trust McCain and if his plan make sense and they understand it, they will come back and he wins.

  90. madamab: I really don’t thing anyone who supports obama cares what he says or does. That isn’t why they are supporting him.

Doncha know, he is just a way such a better speaker!

McCain just looks SOOOO old and tired and Palin is SOOOO STUPID trying to be cute and all (and not because she is a GRL – cuz I heard that is sexist – whatever) !

  91. masslib, do you think they would give his plan a fair shake? c’mon

  92. Listening to the radio while I had to do a lot of driving today, and heard that the NY Times has called the McCain campaign “appalling,” and Palin is “reckless and dangerous with her rac*st charges by bringing up Ayers etc.”

Do they even bother to call themselves still journalists now, or do they just walk around the office with Obama pom-poms?

Coming up on Hannity: Jerome Corsi is going to be interviewed. He was released from Kenya and has said that he has “undeniable proof that Sen. Obama has had continued correspondence and has offered consultation to his cousin, Odinga, who supports Sharia Law.”

Uh oh…sounds like more reckless and dangerous news about to break.

  93. I don’t get all this “Former Bush supporters are Obots,”
because I live in red country and know many Reps who voted for Bush and they think O is full of sh-t.

And they are not from the Religious Right either.

  94. Pritzker may become the first woman Secretary of the Treasury

  95. I’ve officially stopped watching any cable news and going to msnbc or nytimes online.

  96. And the saga continues, BZero gerrymandered his state Senate district to get Pritzker and her ilk as constituents. Pritzker calls BZero to sub the day before the “speech heard round the world” courtesy of Axelfraud’s recording re-enactment. Pritzker’s operation is the “garden of evil” in the sub-prime mess. Pritzker is a financial engine of the BZero bundling operation. Incest is alive and well. Will we hear it from anywhere else — not likely.

All I have to do is start up a blog at progressiveu.com. Yeah, so far Obot central. Anyway, it would go a long way to helping me out if you’d be willing to just click on the various posts on my blog. You don’t have to comment (though that would help too!) or even read them because you’ve read them all before but I really could use this money in the coming semester. So, if you love me or even think I’m not a raging psycho, click here for me, would ya?

  100. Report about PA numbers today in NY Post:

Dem registration has surged by 13% and Republican ranks have shrunk by 1% as a record 8.6 million people in battleground PA registered to vote in the presidential election. Last minute registrations on Monday have still to be counted, but the total already released by PA’s State Dept. far exceeds the previous record of 8.4 million set in 2004. Dems saw an increase of more than 500,000 new voters in the past year. Republicans watched their ranks shrink by about 28,000.

Explains some of the numbers we’re seeing in PA too.

  101. masslib, here is one WSJ take on the various mortgage plan.
    http://blogs.wsj.com/deals/2008/10/08/mccains-300-billion-mortgage-plan-better-than-the-700-billion-rescue/?mod=googlenews_wsj

The bottomline for me is that McCain has proposed something to help keep homeowners in their homes, similar to what Hillary proposed. Details would have to be hammered out in congress, if he is Preznit.
Whereas Obama has offered no plan for homeowners yet. Nada. Zilch.

  102. Obama sits down a lot because that’s where the a**hole is, and well, he is one.

Sorry, RD, I know you like to keep this a high-class place, and that was low-class. I’ll go do penance.

  103. masslib — I understand this clearly — helping homes stay out of foreclosure is as good for if not better for the economy then helping banks keep liquidity so that they can lend (which is what the $700 billion bail out is designed to do). Furthermore, when the government is helping the fat cats, helping the little guy too is the FAIR thing to do. That is what the Democratic Party used to stand for. It is as simple as that.
As for the $700 billion bail out — I never liked it because even with it, the banks will not be lending. But BO’s the one getting all the credit for how wonderful that bill was, so maybe we should ask him.

  104. gail, I’m not saying Republicans are Obama supporters. (Although that was a BIG obot claim during the primaries, that Republicans would tripping over themselves to vote for BO.) It took more than Republicans to elect Bush twice. Before I was booted off the Obama-only board I noticed that a lot of the Obama supporters claimed to have voted for Bush. Regardless, a whole lot of these obots are not Democrats. They are Obamacrats or Obamanits or Obamanists, whichever you prefer.

    Maybe Obamanuts?

  105. Another great post! I’ve been thinking the same thing…and knowing that if an addictive personality admits to having smoking “once in awhile” or having a drink “once in awhile” it’s spot on that no matter what they ADMIT to, it’s a WHOLE LOT MORE! Of course, it is not easy to give up a substance to which one is addicted–I would not like to give up drinking iced tea, but fortunately it is not necessary that I do so. HOWEVER, if it became a requisite for something to which I aspired, I would give it my best shot [no pun intended] and in any case, tell the truth to the world about my success or lack thereof. There simply is no other way if one has any integrity at all.

One of the heartbreaking things about this campaign has been to witness media’s utter lack of interest in things like honor, integrity and veracity. But perhaps that makes those of us who do treasure those virtues all the more resolute to celebrate and perpetuate them.

  106. Corsi Exclusive: Just released from Kenya. When they kicked him out a Kenya official said, “See you in hell.”

He claims to have clear documentary evidence that Obama was in direct touch with Odinga FROM HIS SENATE OFFICE going back to 2006 & 2007, offering political strategy and agreed with Odinga’s strategies, even after he started appealing to the radical Muslims in Kenya who advocated for Sharia Law. Obama was in contact ALMOST DAILY with Odinga even when he was campaigning in New Hampshire. Validated with government officials in Kenya.

I have that feeling again–this is going to blow up.

  107. Hmm, interesting. Sounds like a good plan but I am sure I am missing something.

  108. Sarah is going after Obama with a pitch fork on Hannity tonight regarding Ayers! They just showed some of the video.

She is our Hero! I hope Hillary is tutoring her!

  109. gxm,

    Obamanuts!LMAO!

  110. Corsi: He has emails from Obama’s Senate office to one Odinga’s top aides. (25) emails from Odinga to Obama’s Senate office.

There is a whole campaign strategy from Obama to Odinga: here’s how you organize your campaign, how your campaign manager should work, your finances.

Odinga talks about using the Muslim force to whip up outrage, and if we lose, we will claim voter fraud. He has evidence that Obama knew about this, and continued to support Odinga. He chose to overlook the tribal violence Odinga advocated.

100% certain about authenticity of documents. They come from people very close to Odinga, and because he signed agreement with Islamic radicals who supported Sharia Law, these Kenyans separated form Odinga and gave Corsi the documents. Hannity is going to put him on the show. This is his first interview since he got through immigration.

    Ouch.

  111. October Surprise: Looks like some conservative blogs have uncovered documentary evidence that Obama was a member of the “New Party” as late as the late 90’s.

The Ayers relationship is also being clarified: looks like they are able to prove that Ayers brought Obama to Chicago and groomed him as his front.

  112. “The federal government would offer any homeowner with a mortgage an opportunity to replace 20% of the mortgage with a low-interest loan from the government, subject to a maximum of $80,000. This would be available to new buyers as well as those with mortgages. The interest on that loan would reflect the government’s cost of funds and could be as low as 2%. The loan would not be secured by the house but would be a loan with full recourse, allowing the government to take other property or income in the unlikely event that the individual does not pay. It would by law be senior to other unsecured debt and not eligible for relief in bankruptcy.”

Does this mean my mother could replace her second mortgage at like 13% with a reasonable mortgage at 5.25%? Is that what this means?

  113. fif
    ouch.-)

  114. Masslib, that’s Feldstein’s proposal.
I’m not sureif that’s how JM wants to go. All that’s on his website so far is
    http://www.johnmccain.com/Informing/Issues/Read.aspx?guid=b9af0d4c-9c0e-4a97-b27f-19df8cfec83d

The McCain resurgence plan would be available to mortgage holders that:
    * Live in the home (primary residence only)
    * Can prove their creditworthiness at the time of the original loan (no falsifications and provided a down payment).
The new mortgage would be an FHA-guaranteed fixed-rate mortgage at terms manageable for the homeowner.

which sounds more like the Hubbard-Mayer proposal.

  115. I’m still not getting it votermom. Corrente says the “cram down” is missing. I don’t even know what that means.

  116. alex and fif, all i can say is i hope you’re both right. and i hope any october surprises don’t turn in to october embarrassment like that dan rather fiasco in 2004. not disbelieving, just saying that i hope they’ve got all their i’s dotted and t’s crossed. i would love nothing more than for this charade to blow up in BO’s face.

  117. Well, the problem with these loans is the government encouraged the loan givers not to force a down payment. one bank that did subprime loans but with a down payment has almost no foreclosures. So if the dp is essential I don’t think it will work.

  118. When my daughter was five years old, the Lewinsky scandal was in the news, and there was much handwringing in the media about what we were going to tell our kids about it. I wasn’t very upset about it, I just told my daughter that the President had an affair with a woman who was not his wife and then he lied about it.

Some weeks later, my five-year-old said, “When I grow up, I want to be just like President Clinton because President Clinton doesn’t smoke, and I’m never going to smoke…”

So that’s what made an impression on my daughter. Not the affair, but that the President didn’t smoke. It is a big deal to children and Barry should quit whether he wins the election or not if, for no other reason, than for the children; the children who have been led to believe that he is something special; the children who have been taught to sing songs honoring him.

It is a big deal, Barry.

  119. wow, something else Barry and George W. have in common (besides their narcissistic sense of entitlement): they’re both addicts.

  120. Masslib, I’m just as confused as you are but cram down is actually a separate thing, I think. It refers to a bankruptcy judge being able to force a creditor to accept a more reasonable debt term, or something like that.

The mortgage relief plan ideas are all about finding ways for the govt to buy the mortgages that people can’t afford, and renegotiating them at current market rates with low interest rates. The govt will take a loss in the short term but possibly eventually make the money back over the long term since real estate always appreciates eventually. I think the argument now is at how much the govt should buy them for from the mortgage companies.

  121. This what this DeLong says:
    from Brad DeLong’s page:

    “The McCain plan is:
-Give a present of $100 billion to the bankers who made the loans.
-Acquire and regularize the mortgages of only two-thirds as many homeowners as could have been accomplished if the $300 billion were invested wisely.

There’s a big difference here: Democrats want to prevent depression and support the financial markets by investing taxpayer money in banks with troubled assets. Republicans want to give taxpayers money away to the shareholders and managers of banks with troubled assets.

  122. truthisgold:

I have a drink every once in a while, so what?

(Every once in a while = 20-30 minutes)

  123. OT but:

David C. Kernell, 20 year-old son of Representative Mike Kernell, D-Memphis, has been indicted for hacking into Sarah Palin’s email.

Kernell turned himself into authorities for arrest and will be arraigned before U.S. Magistrate Judge C. Clifford Shirley.

The single-count indictment, returned Tuesday and unsealed today, alleges that on approximately Sept. 16, 2008, Kernell, obtained unauthorized access to Palin’s personal e-mail account by allegedly resetting the account password.

According to the indictment, after answering a series of security questions that allowed him to reset the password and gain access to the e-mail account, Kernell allegedly read the contents of the account and made screenshots of the e-mail directory, e-mail content and other personal information.

According to the indictment, Kernell posted screenshots of the e-mail and other personal information to a public Web site. Kernell also allegedly posted the new e-mail account password, thus providing access to the account by others.

If convicted, Kernell faces a maximum of five years in prison, a $250,000 fine and a three-year term of supervised release. A trial date has not been set.

  124. masslib,
-it wasn’t only government, Penny Pritzker who is Obama’s Finance Chair, the person who oversees the campaign’s fundraising was behind the origin of the current sub-prime crisis.

The Pritzkers like to say they did sub-prime lending to help the disadvantaged get into the home equity business, [but] it would be more accurate to state they ran a very large nation-wide predatory lending operation,” Anderson said, citing criticism of Superior’s lending practices in a letter written to the Office of Thrift Supervision on July 3, 2002, by the National Community Reinvestment Coalition, an association of more than 600 community-based organizations that promote access to basic banking services./

    http://tinyurl.com/37ztl9

  125. Well, I don’t think JM’s plan is perfect, but Obama has nothing right now.
Ergo, McCain’s plan = better than nothing.

Tell me, since when is “that one” r*cist? That’s absurd.

  148. In fact Delong misquotes McCain from last nights debate several times.

There is support amongst economists for McCains plan.

  149. Mr. DeLong has feelings for McCain?

  150. MAWM_

Well here is how I see it there is a temporary halt in the slide of the dollar for now- but then all the obama “type” socialist economies start the printing presses up and hyper inflation kicks in in Iceland and eastern European Countries(monetary disipline is already weak in these countries.)

Then the panic spreads to “Reverve Currency”Countrries Japan,Britian Euro nations and the United States….The American People say crap the dems could do that to America! Only way to keep us from burning hundred dollar bills for fuel is to adopt “tight” monetary policy.

Only up side is that fear of Hyper inflation here may keep the rational folks from pulling the obama lever….

  151. well that’s one way of making it work.

Just got this FW from mom:

Just Passing this on…Make sure you do the same!!!!!!!!

For those who normally vote ‘Straight Democratic’, please pay close attention!!!!! I was informed this weekend by a group of Obama volunteers that when voting for the presidential candidate this November, you have to make sure you punch Barack’s name first, then proceed to punch ‘Straight Democratic’ or else the vote for the president won’t count. I’m not sure if any of you are aware of this, but we know they won’t tell us this at the poles. Please make sure you inform others.

I would say they’re just paranoid but I’ve met these people. If you don’t tell ‘em to vote downticket, they won’t.

  152. Most Americans don’t want to give taxpayers’ money to investment bankers and people who got loans by lying about their income. For some reason, though, McCain has decided that the populist approach is a better sell than trying to explain to people the efficiency of free markets. In the long run, it will cost far less to let the system work and the fools go bankrupt than to bankroll the same idiots who created this mess with the people’s money. I daresay very, very few of the defaulting mortgage holders were tricked into buying expensive homes and signing mortgages they could not pay back. Those that were can fight their lenders in the civil courts. The others don’t deserve to have their bills paid by us. Sorry.

  153. the Iceland Kroner is in free fall 144 to the euro at opening bell today….expected to be at 500 to one euro by weeks end!

Think zimbabwe-were they introduced the 50,00,000 “dollar” note at parity with the US Dollar! Now i think you can’t even find any one in Harrare who is will to part with their dollars at any price!

  154. Is there a “Gay Democratic” ticket?

Personally I don’t care about the candidates’ sexual orientation.

(Obama’s advice for those trying to kick the habit? “Eliminate certain key connections — that first cigarette in the morning, or after a meal, or with a drink,” he said. “If you can eliminate those triggers, that should help.”)

so smokers should sleep in, not eat, and not drink?
does he say anything about having sex??

  156. kitchen:

If you smoke after sex you need to slow down.

  157. I heard on Deutsche Well this morning (European news is better) that Iceland may go bankrupt. It sought a 4M loan from Russia. The PM (I think its the PM–I’m not up on the political structure in Iceland) said its friends weren’t helping it so Iceland looked for new friends.

  158. Dave-

Actually we should have forced the banks and investement firms to give an equity share in their business for the risk the american people are taking with their $ 700 billion….

Say warrants for shares in the partisipating companies equal to say from 25% to 49% interest in the companies. the percent to be determined by the amount of assistance to equity they have since the meltdown.

Also give these “special” warrants veto power of executive compensation until they are excersized!

It worked with chrysler-make the government a benificiary of the markets-

It could produce billions for the taxpayer in “profits”

  159. Icelands legislative body is called the “Allthing” is the oldest parliment in Europe-having been in session for over 1,000 years-different members of course.

    Dem group backing McCain

Prominent Hillary Clinton supporter helps open

Democrats for McCain headquarters in Scranton.

    BILL O ’ BOYLE
    boboyle@timesleader.com
SCRANTON – A major supporter of Hillary Clinton and member of the Democratic National Committee’s Platform Committee, on Monday said the Democratic Party has nominated “the worst candidate” while Republicans have nominated the best.

Lynn Forester de Rothschild helped open the Democrats for McCain headquarters on Main Avenue in West Scranton. About 30 supporters turned out to welcome de Rothschild and speak out for the Republican ticket.

“What it came down to was that I decided I love my country more than my party,” de Rothschild said, explaining her support of Sen. John McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin. “I’m really worried. I do not want (Obama) in the White House.”

De Rothschild, 54, said she sees Northeast Pennsylvania – specifically Luzerne and Lackawanna counties – as the key to winning Pennsylvania’s 21 electoral votes. And, she said, whoever wins Pennsylvania will likely become the next president.

“Barack Obama has never had the mandate of Democrats,” she said. “And Howard Dean and Nancy Pelosi ignored the 18 million people that voted for Hillary Clinton. They can’t be surprised at the 5 million to 7 million Clinton supporters who are now supporting McCain.”

One organization – PUMA, which stands for Party Unity My Ass – has more than 5 million members across the country, she said. Jamie Brazil, a longtime friend of the Clintons and the Rodham family, is serving as national director of Citizens for McCain. Brazil accompanied de Rothschild on her Scranton visit.

Brazil and his wife, Dee, will be godparents to Simon Rodham, son of Tony and Megan Rodham at his baptism Oct. 12 in Scranton. Tony Rodham is Hillary Clinton’s brother. The Clintons will attend the post-baptism brunch at the Brazil home in Scranton.

No announcement has been made regarding a possible pro-Obama event while the Clintons are in Scranton.

“I’m here in Scranton because this is one of two counties in Pennsylvania — Luzerne being the other – that will determine who will be our next president,” de Rothschild said. “I want that to be John McCain.”

Carol Oleski is director of the Democrats for McCain office. Judy O’Connor is assisting Oleski and has taken a strong stand for McCain.

“Hillary supporters are way past the anger stage,” O’Connor said. “We are supporting McCain because we feel after Hillary, he is the most qualified candidate for president.”

O’Connor said most Clinton supporters who have come over to the McCain side feel the Democratic Party threw the New York senator “under the bus.” She said the Democratic “good ol’ boys club” didn’t want a woman to be president.

“We find McCain to be honest and genuine,” O’Connor said. “We don’t trust Sen. Obama; we don’t feel he is qualified for the job. He has walked down many hallways, but he hasn’t left many footprints.”

A self-made multimillionaire who is married to British royalty, de Rothschild has called Obama an elitist. She splits her time living in London and New York and was one of Clinton’s top fundraisers, bringing in more than $100,000 for the campaign.

De Rothschild built a multimillion-dollar telecommunications company before marrying international banker Sir Evelyn de Rothschild.

  161. Julie, from upthread. I’m tired of this election. I have spent the last four hours helping my friend defend her voting position to her Obot boyfriend, who refuses to accept it or let it go. He is now saying that she has to vote for Obama because racism is worse than sexism and that voting for Obama is voting for the greater good. Its his birthday today. I guess he thought she would become an Obot as a birthday present to him.

  162. fuzzy-i think i meant 4B. 4M is not much of a loan these days.

  163. I couldn’t date someone who couldn’t take my political beliefs seriously.

Frankly, this “r*cism” thing is becoming a widespread case of hysterical blindness.

  164. Cram down

In Bankruptcy the reduction of various classes of Debt to a lower amount, with acceptance by the bankruptcy court.
Example: The bankruptcy judge considered the $100,000 property value that was encumbered by a $90,000 first mortgage and $25,000 unsecured debt. He allowed $90,000 to the first mortgage holders, and crammed down the $25,000 unsecured debt to $10,000.

  166. The price of Oil could go into free fall to (please dont shed any tears) this could lead to Iranian economic disaster-no money to finance terrorist! In Venezuela where Oil Profits are proping up several of its clientele states (Bolivia and Peru) it could be a big disaster.

See the Opec States have gotten used to $ 120.00 a barrel Oil! By January (a mild winter is predicted in NA and Europe) could be at $ 50.00 per barrel.

  167. Tell me, since when is “that one” r*cist? That’s absurd.

Regency: today there was a frantic Obama spokesperson claiming that Palin’s use of the term “small town America” was outrageously rac*st, because it was a quote from some white supremacist who used that term in an article.

You can’t make this stuff up…

  168. Regency: I agree. I don’t know if they will survive this election. I told her to get a McCain life sized cut out (catarina has one) and put it in her bed. Her bf would probably have a heart attack.

  169. Fif: You can. They do! All the time. Un-Reality. They live there and the rest of are forced to watch like we’re enduring some damned cult indoctrination.

  170. Matthew Weaver at NQ is looking at the newly released Google 2001 index which has only been moderately scrubbed and is turning up some good “stuff” on the what the “O” was up to in the late ’90’s.

    For example:

“Obama was an active member of the now-defunct socialist New Party! “Chicago DSA is affiliated with the national Democratic Socialists of America.” From October 1996: “Three NP-members won Democratic primaries last Spring and face off against Republican opponents on election day: Danny Davis (U.S. House), Barack Obama (State Senate) and Patricia Martin (Cook County Judiciary).” November 2006: “New Party member Barack Obama was uncontested for a State Senate seat from Chicago.”

  171. Micki: *candy spew*

She should get a life-sized McCain and a life-sized Bill. He’d really be jealous then because she’s getting all bipartisan with it.

  172. Regency: I thought you bought all the life sized Bill cut outs.

  173. Micki: Well I have one that’s a bit worn-out round the middle. She can have that one.

  174. Lynn Forester de Rothschild and PUMA vandalize koolaid stand in Scranton…film at 11…

PUMA going visably public, around beginning of October. Important event to remember…

  175. And remember that while they threatened her, Lynn didn’t back down in the least. I like that in a woman.

    Lynn for Congress!

  176. Regency: ;) (i don’t know how to make the emoticons)

  177. Oh, I made one!

  178. Everyone I am not doom and gloom the business cycle is a natural as birth and death…it is part of life. In the past we have a strong FED and Treasury to crack the wip of monetary policy that for the past 25 years lead to a soft landing during recessions.

I do not think that is possible now with run away goverment spending and high national debt. We may have to suffer through a tough recession probably the worst since 1982!

I know the party in power durning the next 4 years is going to have to do some pretty extreme things-to keep america afloat. I also believe that party will not control the oval for at least 20-30 years after this next recession.

I dont want to be the party in power when the caca hits the fan….

  179. I think everyone is at dinner.

  180. I need to get my r*cist code correct.

“those people” by Obama – not r*cist CHECK

“you people” by normal people – r*cist CHECK

“hockey mom” by normal people – r*cist CHECK

“Joe 6 Pack” by normal people – r*cist CHECK

“Ayers” by normal people – r*cist CHECK

Don’t even get me started on Wright, Fleger, Farakhan ………………………………. – not r*cist CHECK

I think your friend needs to ditch this idiot. Seriously, a man who can’t accept that a woman has a right to her own vote (and is not his shadow puppet) is not a man you want to waste time with.

She needs to tell him that he MUST vote for McCain because sexism is worse than racism and see how he likes it. By the way, has this chucklehead ever been the victim of either… is he black? If not, he needs to get off his high horse of complete ignorance.

What I’d like to know is how we raised a generation of kids who think one form of prejudice is worse than the other. I think it’s because we, as a culture, still embrace sexism in our public AND private lives. Things need to change and they need to change NOW.

  182. Carol: you need to expand your parameters. Code also includes apparel.

    wearing white– r@cist CHECK

And I think there was some mention that wearing red ties is secret r@cist code

  183. Charles is right because the reason for oil’s fall in price is not caused by innovation and a moving from a petroleum/fossil fuels economy to a green economy-but from a demand implosion due to colapse of the world economy…

That is what I believe Charles is saying is bad about colapsing oil prices for the world in general now. They are the symptom of a sick world economy.

For us Americans-our trade balance improves by $ 840 million dollars a day and that is not a bad thing that money stays here and not is some Opec Perto-dollar account. and that is at $ 50.00 a barrel oil…$ 306.6 billion a year that gets to stay here!

  184. I knew it!
Obama was having a nicotine fit when he started rambling and babbling at the end of the debate last night.

I recognize it when I see it, having been there myself once.
    It’s terrible.

I think he should immediately concede the race and take all the time he needs to address this problem privately..

  185. gxm17: He is Indian. Believe me, I’m working on it.

  186. Fuzzy,

I agree that the government should get equity for its money if it is going to hand money to these failed businesses and stupid investors. However, I disagree with the premise that it is the government’s job to defend people and corporations from their bad investments in the first place. They should die via bankruptcy as they deserve to. Those politicians responsible for the Fannie/Freddie debacle should also get what they deserve–long jail terms. Instead, all of Paulson’s friends are snookering the government for billions and his 35 year-old protege is in charge of it all. This is beyond scandalous. And it is happening with the approval of Congress right before our eyes!

  187. Carol: don’t forget: “Typical white people – not r*cist”

  188. I see the headlines now-Catarina:

“Obama suspends campaign to beat addiction…Betty Ford Clinic greets Obama with open arms”

  189. “jvsp”
Thanks for the Odinga web-site. There’s that “CHANGE” thing again. I couldn’t tell if there was any video of Obama campaigning for him……darn!
    “alex”
    Good stuff!
I still believe Frank Marshal Davis is the original connection. He had Obama’s full attention from ages 10-18, after he was already rejected by his mom, birth & step-fathers.
I heard some where Davis (home: Chicago before Hawaii), knew Ayers’ father. Also, not only knew Obama’s grandpa in Hawaii; but also in Chicago.

  190. fuzzybeargville, It’s interesting that you say that. I was talking with a co-worker who supports Obama and he brought up something I told him months ago, that the next President will only get one term because of the colossal mess that’s left for him. He was concerned that Obama might only get 4 years. I should have added, but didn’t cuz I’m not “out” at my office, that if Obama is elected President and screws up as bad as it appears he’s capable of then we won’t see another Democratic President for a long, long time.

  191. Micki-are you still here?
    Do you need this??
    http://tinyurl.com/4hp6b6

  192. Dave we are in total agreement but we know its not going down that way so why not force the fatcats to give up stockholder equity for these loans…I am not a Social Darwinist here-we helped chrysler and they prospered until they wer bought out and looted by Dailmer-Benz..

Our industrial and Financial integrety is a national security issue with me…we must defent these institutions from all enemies both foriegn and in this case “DOMESTIC”!

I dont think some autoworker who slaved for 40 years should have to loose everthing because some idiot on Wall Street took advantage of a loophole and sunk the company.

  193. Who decides that an ad is bad? Charles or the people who watch it? He’s a fine guy but he ain’t exactly the average voter.

  194. The media is evil.

    The media wants Obama.

  195. Dave my last was just an example

  196. Catarina: I’m still here. I am buying one for her. We all need a little amusement.

Jmac, that is too depressing for words and this has already been a depressing day. Maybe I’m just tired. I’ve been here since 7 and its time to go home and regroup. At least, I have off tomorrow because my office is closed for Yom Kippur. So, a day off will be good.

I did buy a little stock today. I figured I might as well get some at as close to rock bottom as I can.

  197. The media wants another Democrat to destroy.

Republicans–not all, but quite a number–are crooks and they have no shame about it. What’s the fun in reporting on crooks that can’t be shamed?

They destroyed the Man from Hope because it was fun. Now they’ll destroy the “Man of Hope” because it’ll be fun squared.

  198. In The Texas primary I heard a number that was astounding! It was over 200,000 voters. They only voted for Obama and no one else. That would play hell with down ticket vote.

  199. But you’re right, Mawm, they want him to be President so it sells more paper.

  200. If Obama’s fical policies are seen as hyper-inflationary(which they are) then Aericans with money in the bank will not be able to support them.

If americans cannot support Obama’s fical policies they will not vote for Obama.

If Americans love what is left of their American dreams then they will not support Obama.

  201. what a migraine, what a day.
had an obamabot (former hillary supporter!) flip out on me when she saw the mccain button I was wearing.

had to listen to the mindless babble about palin being a heartbeat away from the presidency, blahblahblah.

She couldn’t tell me why Obama was qualifed.
She couldn’t name anything Palin had said to justify her obvious hatred.
She parroted all the stupid bullshit media talking points about her being dumb and was horrified when I told her about the analysis the linguists did that determined Palin’s
speech to be a grade level or two above Biden’s.
(Anybody got a link to that article?)

I whipped out my purple folder and left her with a few good articles.
Talked with so many people today who will vote against their own interests. Jesus.
Must go find medicine. what a f-ing headache.
    will continue saving america tmrw.

  202. Jessie: Something like that, yeah.

In NC, it was something like 250,000 votes with just the top filled in. So much so that they had to hold the primary again for the dt candidates.

  203. jmac relax he’ll put his hand not on the bible, but on the the koran like keith ellison.
    sorry.
    not.

  204. McCain has been given up for dead several times now., There seem to be decent size crowds at his appearances.

  205. micki
    what a great idea
have been wanting a few lshares of lululemon, just to be cool.

as soon as the meds kick in and i can see again im going on zecco.

  206. If Obama is president Dow bottom is 7500 if MCCain is president bottom may be 8400 still a way till bottom!

  207. Catarina, You’ve got mail.

  208. “Jessie & Regency”
I heard about the NC one too. They had to re-do the primary. In NC that’s what he “won” by & also what he lead by from the ” early voting #’s”!
    2- points:
*Hillary won or tied the NC primary “on that day”.
Which means people DID & DO care about the Rev. Wright stuff!
Also if ALL those people only voted for him there MUST BE FRAUD! What are the chances of that many people that LIVE in a state not bothering to vote for the races that REALLY matter to their lives??!!
I campaigned in NC, PA,RI, NY + phone-banked countless other states. NC “FELT” like RI that day!

  209. Smokers….under the bus with you.

    MountainSage

  210. Thanks jvsp!

  211. This is the most ridiculous piece of drivel I have ever read…i cannot believe you would devote all this to Obama’s smoking habit. Give me a break. As far as we know, he doesn’t come home drunk each night, probably not on drugs (he did admit to taking drugs when younger…NOT LYING like a former pres candidate did repeatedly), and he probably does not screw around (again, unlike another former president who STILL gets it on with quite a few, one a very famous woman so I have heard). so you have NOTHING else to say about this man? i guess its because you have been bashing him for so long, there is not much else to say?
you are pretty pathetic….i think we all know what smoking is and does – we don’t need your lecturing to remind us.

  212. Angela, he’s lying about not smoking, so what do you mean not lying?
And who knows how he’s screwing around…all the gay members of his church dropped DEAD, murdered, and his VP’s son arrested Larry Sinclair, but he may have others on the side. Run along now.

  213. Faaaaascinating!

  214. As an addict (drugs, alcohol, smokes, food, gambling, inking/piercing) I have empathy for other addicts. Each evening, I’m thankful that the I’ve been successful at keeping the demons at bay for one more day and hope for the strength to make it yet another day.

    Cher

  215. cannot believe you would devote all this to Obama’s smoking habit.

    - This matters because Obama said he quit smoking, now he admits that he still smokes.

    oh, & something else:

Obama also said that stop doing drugs as well…

    hmmm.
