Too Close for Comfort

This video:

Is way too similar to this:

just saying.

  1. Gary – I actually have those green stemmed wine glasses.

Creepy video of the kids. Call Child Protective Services.

    CAROL HAKA

  2. Cute kids, cute to see them singing, but so very CREEPY to see them promoting politics.

  3. I did say this before, but bb’s prior post, describing of how BO fits the profile of Narcissistic Personality Disorder, together with the troubled times we are in, makes it scarily easy to see parallels with the Gleichschaltung in 1933.

  4. Buahaaahhhaah. Thanks, I needed that pick me up this mornin’ :)

  5. They look like kids of BO supporters.

  6. Boston Herald Endorses John McCain

“Being commander in chief isn’t the place for on-the-job training; it’s a job for someone who has already proven his leadership skills – in battle, as a prisoner of war and during more than two decades on the floor of the Senate.”
    – Boston Herald

  7. Oh jeez…..I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

  8. Future “Children of the Corn” – just awaiting orders from their leaders – Obama and Michelle.

  9. What was that movie with all of the ghouly children with the “eyes”???????????///

  10. A bit off-topic, but something on HC. It shows that she is on top of things. I am so happy the C. Foundation rescued this initiative.

  11. Hey everyone! I can’t get over how icky and amateurish, as well. It’s just so Obama. Thanks for front-paging it, Gary!

I know the financial thread was down below, but have you all checked out Alegre this morning? Another proposal has been put forward by progressive/populist Dems. The SEIU, who has supported Obama, is supporting this proposal, not the one currently being voted on by our Congresscritters.

Pelosi, Obama face Rebellion Over Bailout

  12. village of the damned

  13. Carol – “The Village of the Damned”…the villagers’ children were replaced with aliens with mind control powers…

  14. carol, for you:

  15. Absolutely scarey. And I believe the gentleman not fooled by the Shiney One was old and bitter and clinging to guns and religion.

  16. mlhath – LOL! Too funny.

  17. Have you all seen/discussed this yet? Unbelievable. We were wondering about Ifill’s objectivity last week. Part of post at NoQuarter:

Did you know that Gwen Ifill, who is currently slated to moderate Thursday’s vice-presidential debate, has written a pro-Obama book that is to be published on January 20, 2009? Yes, Inauguration Day!

In THE BREAKTHROUGH, veteran journalist Gwen Ifill surveys the American political landscape, shedding new light on the impact of Barack Obama’s stunning presidential campaign and introducing the emerging young African American politicians forging a bold new path to political power.

Why would anyone think Gwen Ifill can be unbiased in questioning the two VP candidates as she has a clear personal, professional, and financial stake in seeing that Biden does well and that Obama wins in November?

    Michelle Malkin observes:

Ifill and her publisher are banking on an Obama/Biden win to buoy her book sales. The moderator expected to treat both sides fairly has grandiosely declared this the “Age of Obama.” Can you imagine a right-leaning journalist writing a book about the “stunning” McCain campaign and its “bold” path to reform timed for release on Inauguration Day – and then expecting a slot as a moderator for the nation’s sole vice presidential debate?

Despite the protestations of her colleagues that she will be fair, Ifill has appeared on numerous radio and TV talk shows over the past several months to cash in on her access to the Obama campaign. She recently penned a fawning cover story on the Obamas for Essence magazine that earned much buzz. The title? “The Obamas: Portrait of an American Family.”

Gwen Ifill wrote in Time on August 21, 2008: The Obama generation is just beginning its run.

Questioned recently about her biases, Ifill is quoted by the Washington Post saying, “no one’s ever assumed a white reporter can’t cover a white candidate.” But what about a “reporter” who has a personal, professional, and financial stake?!

Ifill disingeniously observed when asked about the debate, that “I’m not running for anything.” Yet, she is selling a book! The Washington Post barely mentions her book, as a footnote: “Ifill is working on a book called “Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama.” She focuses on the Democratic nominee…”

And regarding Governor Palin, Ifill was accused by many of showing bias against the governor during the Republican Convention. PBS ombusdman Michael Getler defended Ifill against these complaints but did share without comment or dispute a selection of the complaints.

Additionally, it should also come as no surprise that Gwen Ifill is apparently friend and colleague of fellow Obama-supporter Oprah. Indeed, Ifill has a long history with Oprah, including writing in O, The Oprah Magazine.

Greta Van Susteren now reports at Fox News that “the McCain campaign did NOT know about Gwen Ifill’s book.”

Action Item for Everyone: Call the Commission on Presidential Debates at (202) 872-1020 to demand full disclosure of Ifill’s bias and demand she be replaced as moderator of the debate. No email addresses found for the Commission or its leadership: Janet H. Brown, Executive Director; Frank Fahrenkopf, Co-Chairman; Paul Kirk, Co-Chairman.

  18. unbelieveable

    sickening

  19. gary – I was a 9 year old blue eyed blonde when my mother took us to the drive-in theatre to see that.

I say we are truly one step away from this with BO. Start looking for children’s eyes to begin “start putting people to sleep” if BO were to take office. I know he puts me to sleep.

  20. Heh. I wish I were surprised that Ifill is so obviously in the tank for Obama. But really, did we expect anything else?

I can’t imagine who we could get that is unbiased in either direction. Lehrer was pretty good IMHO – maybe he should moderate this one too.

  21. It is indoctrination of children into a political ideology. It robs them of their childhood and forces to them deal with complicated political issues that they do not have the capacity to understand. This type of indoctrination is used in communist countries and/or dictatorships.

  22. Gary,

I just had a flash back to that guy you posted about who made his daughter an Obama bus. Remember that?

  23. Here is a youtube of Ifill’s remarks after Palin’s convention speech

  24. did anyone see the movie Jesus Camp? it reminds me of that too…

  25. votermom, I would caption that clip “Gwen in pain over Palin.”

  26. bb, yeah, I was thinking of that too.

  27. oh, gary
    god help us all.

  28. Has Lambert seen this ad yet?:

  29. Gary – that’s what I was thinking, and that’s why I think it’s amateurish. The Republicans have this thing down to a science. Obama as usual is a poor imitation of a real evangelical right-winger, although Gawd knows he is trying to fake the fervor.

  30. Mo Rocca has a video on the Political machine http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/09/30/let-us-pray-to-obama/?icid=200100397x1210854480x1200656989 that’s even scarier – kids are praying to Obama!

  31. The excerpt video from Cabaret is chilling in that we knew what followed this mindless adulation of Hitler. The “Culture of Obama” is unsettling particularly since we do not yet for one minute know what comprises his core beliefs. An Obamabot is unable to answer even one question with regard to any of his achievements yet they are more than willing to plant their support behind him.

    Absolutely frightening.

  32. if the nazi comparison is too strong for you check this out.

Children used as propaganda tools is a halmark of totalitarian regimes.

  33. According to quinnipiac, BO has opened up clear leads in FL, OH, and PA.

  34. I can easily predict who will win tomorrow’s debate: Gwen Ifill. Suddenly she will have as much name recognition as Jim Lehrer, all the better to sell her new book.

  35. Fourth post just pooof into thin air – I’ll try again – Mo Rocca just posted a video on the Political machine that shows kids praying to Obama.

  36. If you get a chance, try watching “Critical Condition” on PBS. It is a documentary about four people with serious illness but without health insurance. It has the personal stories plus data about uninsured in America.

    http://www.pbs.org/pov/pov2008/criticalcondition/

  37. It seems to be that my posts disappear when I include a link – can anyone explain?

  38. In North Korea, the children have been raised to think of the Dear Leader as a god. They cry when hearing his name. Can you get anymore loony than that? Indoctrination in the young is the easiest path to power. A fertile brain is willing to accept propaganda. Mao had kids turning in their parents for even the most innocuous remarks.

Should be much easier to do this time around when you have FISA working full time on this project.

  39. I hope Switzerland remains neutral. I’m checking my passport.

Yep. Children of the Corn, the series, is trying to find
a network to run on. Oh, forget it, they already have three networks and several cable channels to run on day and night.

  40. I’m the uninsured. Truly Small Business owners are screwed on insurance. I have almost never had insurance as an adult. And now this? Government run health care! More taxes! Oh well, maybe I should just move to Canada.

  41. joanelle: Go to Katiebird’s site for the how-to…

Katiebird’s how to avoid spam filter

  42. My sister and her husband own a small business, I think he gets a small business health insurance plan through Costco that is expensive, but they have a child with serious asthma – so they would be worse off without the insurance. They offer the plan to the employees – but they might have them pay for it.

  43. joanelle, I rescued your post. the filter doesn’t like unformatted links, if you go to the link jjmtacoma posted, tells you how to format them.

  44. Of all the moderators, Gwen Ifill was the one that filled me most with dread. She has been swimming in the tank for months. I still remember her snotty voice when she demanded of a guest “who won the Texas primary?” It was such a hawkish, gloating, bullying repulsive tone.

It seemed obvious that she was the chosen one to attack Palin– of course a woman to take out a woman.

    Bad juju.

  45. angela

    funny you should mention that.
after watching Gary’s vids I was thinking maybe it’s time to work on my Swiss passport app…

My husband said something this morning to the effect of
“who are these crazy brainwashed obama supporters?”
I said, dear-they are our friends, colleagues, neighbors…they
    are half the country!
Just weeping into my coffee this morning. Maybe I have it all wrong but I feel more doom and gloom at the thought of an Obama presidency than the prospect of economic collapse.

  46. I have an ever increasing sinking feeling that it will take a miracle for McCain to win. Since we all recognize that the “fix” has been in from day one, it does not take a giant leap of the imagination to see this occurring.

  47. Yeah, so while I was being super clever about link formatting, I forgot to format my own up above, but somehow it worked.

Thanks to Gary – if you fixed my link for me!

  48. PJ- At the end of the clip there is the question “Do you still think you can control them?” The other guy shrugs. A perfect roll for Pelosi and Dean.

  49. catarina,
and I was just thinking what you were. I fear Obama
thugery much more than the economic crisis.

I also remember it was Germany’s failed economy
that helped Hitler rise to power.

I don’t like the sign of the times, right now at all.

  50. Pat
the one shred of hope I have is that those flag-waving Republicans have a plan.
I just can’t imagine in my wildest nightmares that they will not stop Obama.
I can’t believe they will just roll over. Something must be cooking.

  51. Honora: They are in control now. We just have not validated it officially. They control. No question about it.

  52. Didn’t Hitler say give me the children of your country and I will have your country.
If this keeps up will children be turning in their parents to the thought police.
Now they are taught how to take tests not how to think and reason.

    COUNTRY BEFORE PARTY ALWAYS

    PUMAS,BUBBAS, AND THOSE PEOPLE RULE

  53. Good Lord, I hope so!!! I am in meltdown!!

  54. Apparently the original video was pulled after the great majority of comments said it was creepy. It even had a link on the Obama site. When I saw it, the first thing that I thought of was “Tomorrow Belongs to Me”. It’s pathetic that there was no one on the Obama campaign who was aware that people would make the connection.

Here is an equally creepy video with older children/young adults:

The children/young adults in the video spout the usual “hope and change” message but the video also contains a segment that features a tearful young woman who speaks about her brother going to Iraq. The implication is that only Obama can save him.

There are also phrases with religious connotations (IMO) such as: “cleanse our name”, “heal our soldiers”, and “leader to the whole entire world”. Then there is a bit of fear mongering: “it may be your last chance, as a nation”.

  55. Love “Cabaret” but hate that creepy Nazi “Youth”. I remember reading about the Obama kids outreach long ago. They had t-shirts for them saying stuff about the kids wanting their parents to vote for him and items to take to school to share with their friends and posters, etc. [[shudders]] This country might have lost its’ mind for a generation or more.

  56. I just hope obama is as great as some say – that I frankly can’t see – and he will govern as a Democrat if he wins.

At this point, I am thinking the obama supporters will be very sad in about a year if he is actually elected.

I also see these states with early voting and registration at the same time and can’t help but think obama knows exactly how to work that one.

  57. It’s not the fix, it’s the economy. Look, the Conservative movement just exploded and died. Frankly, I still say they need a serious time out even though I loath Obama and am profoundly disappointed by the Democrats. They have f*cked this country up, yes, with the help of the Dem’s, but it’s their whole ideology. I believe in a Republic. I like a two Party system. But they need to come up with something that doesn’t literally harm most americans.

  58. I know that there has been much discussion here about the advocacy of McCain and how people will vote.
I don’t wish to shove my viewpoint on anyone, but I do need to express it.
I am voting for McCain ONLY to stop Obama. If there was someone else who I thought could do it (and they weren’t an absolute cretin), I would vote for them.
I don’t love Palin or McCain. I see Palin as a ticket booster for McCain and, as such, I am rooting (sp?) my ass off for her.
All I want to do is stop Obama. Obama cheated our country from having the one President I felt could
    do great things.
    He is dangerous.

  59. This is what I suggested on a previous thread and I may be just wallowing in “conspiracy theories”.

When Nasty Nancy took the “impeachment issue” off the table in the 2006 election, you had to seriously ask why. I think she worked out a deal with the GOP that if she did so, they would owe her. That may have come in the form that they agreed not to go full blast on Obama with whatever they would eventually dig up on him since she wanted his win so badly.

The quid pro quo was based on something that she got in return and I believe it was for an Obama win come 2008. This may answer the reason why the MSM has gone so easily on him. No impeachment, no interference.

  60. Last night and this morning I saw some of the first 527 ads again backtrack in southern Cal. The are mostly about his tax plans.

    COUNTRY BEFORE PARTY ALWAYS

    PUMAS,BUBBAS, AND THOSE PEOPLE RULE

  61. about Gwen Ifill ,….. the media wants a cat fight…they couldn’t have one between Hill and Michelle,( not for lack of trying ) so this will have to do. They also want a woman beating up Palin so they can say “what are you complaining about? A woman was the moderator ! ” Like that means the the woman hating is okay because it’s from another woman. I see this as an opportunity for Palin. Be tough. The press are either at someones throat or or at their feet , they know no other position

  62. Ok, Pat, she took impeachment off the table because it’s a disaster politically. That’s why BC picked up seats as a lame duck. I frankly think in this instance it would have helped the brand. But, that’s why. It’s not a mystery.

  63. Catarina, we’ve been saying the same thing at home.

My mom was a teenager when first germany, then USSR occupied her country and then insidiously took over the country. It had been a fledgling republic just beginning to get on its feet. Both the Nazi’s and the Russians promised they would not intefere in the government. Those innocents were not prepared. My family was torn asunder twice. Those who weren’t murdered, or in concentration camps for saving Jewish lives, wound up in the Gulag or the diaspora.

Those who wound up in the Gulag went through hell. My mother witnessed the road to dictatorship and she has been warning us and talking about things she never discussed for close to a year now.

It happens when you least expect it to or believe it will. If it were only Euro-socialism (like germany or Sweden, and I lived in Germany a long time) then it would be coupled with democracy and people’s rights. But the trappings of it, and the campaign methodology and tactics reek of totalitarian “socialism”.

  64. No way, Pat!
That is too high a price.
They would have served up Bush’s ass on a silver platter had they known about Obama!
no way no way no way!!!
please don’t tell me they’re in on it!!!

  65. Here’s what will happen to the children that don’t fall in line with the Obama creed:

  66. thank you Gary and jjmtacoma,

  67. masslib: Good for you that you still believe in ideals. Frankly, from what has transpired up until now, I see more at work here than just plain old politics. Obama was hand selected starting way back in 2004 with little or nothing on his legislative record.

Perhaps I am becoming much too jaded, but after watching what took place on May 31st, an out and out sell out on behalf of his supporters, nothing at this point will convince me that there were many machinations going on behind the scenes.

The truth lies somewhere within the last 4 years but it certainly is not based on his qualifications. They are nil.

  68. Mixed gov’t is always best anyway.

Come on, that’s not true. The New deal came out of massive dem majorities in congress. Do we really believe Bill Clinton would not have been a better president with large democratic majorities? Do you honestly believe that?

  69. Carol- LOL my kids better start building those calluses.

  70. I’ve watched the media for years (a bit of a pet project).
These are the folks who brought us GW as president and the Iraq war. They now wish to bring us Obama.
That, in itself, is enough to raise the hairs on the back of your neck.

Obviously, there are conspiracies. Conspiracies just mean more than one person seeking to hatch an event. How someone with no credentials is pushed upon us like he’s the best thing since sliced bread
makes one wonder who is involved. That’s not being paranoid, that’s being smart.

  71. Pat, I agree with you completely about the primary. It was a travesty. But just not about impeachment.

  72. At least they will all have great voices and can do acrobatic skills.

  73. I had better keep my “papers” in order as I have a feeling I will be asked to show them more frequently if he should win.

  74. McCain needs to get a shot of adrenaline.

  75. This is very SCARY!!!!
Someone told me they heard a comparison of the talk about Obama :the early days of Castro. The promises & the language were almost identical.
    TALK ABOUT SCARY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’ve already called about getting Gwen Ifil replaced.

  76. Pat, it’s clear that the impeachment thing was just typical politics. Here’s how. Tell me how many members of the House were interested in impeachment who are not extremely partisan? How about Democratic Governors or Senators?

  77. I didn’t think that little girl singing the triumph of the will ode to Obama was cute at all. In fact, she was so not cute that I had to stop watching the video at the point of seeing a whole group of children going into
    reiteration mode.
That girl looked like she was in a trance. No joy, no
little girl energy there. Just robot. Yuck.
I wish these assholes would leave the kids out of it.

  78. When I see Obama pods and their off spring, I think of the Heaven’s Gate cult. The people who thought they were going to be beamed up to a alien mother ship behind a comment? This was like 12 years ago or so.
They wound up committing suicide in a ritualistic fashion….to “beam up” . When it was looked at, it was found the group were mostly very highly educated ,professional people. People, one usually thinks , who are too smart to believe what the cult leader/ scam artist was selling. But it’s not about smarts. There is some emotional component to all this that pushes their brains aside….and they want that . If you want to get an Obamanut very angry, just ask them to think. They aren’t in it for that….just the opposite .

  79. I think EVERYBODY must read about the fraudulent operation that is the Obama Fundraising:

Obama’s Funny Money, of Who’s “Loving” “You,” Barry?

This is a crooked operation but the media are mum, they don’t want to shed the light on ANY of the obscure operations Obama has been up to.

  80. masslib, I have to disagree. Impeachment is not a political tool, it is a mechanism for removing a corrupt and/or criminal president, which is exactly what we have. Nancy is now complicit in that corruption and criminality for not doing her sworn constitutional duty. As a result we have a president with zero credibility, which as I have stated earlier is a huge danger. case in point, the crisis we find ourselves in right now. He has no effectiveness and Nancy’s earlier abdication of duty is the cause of it. She herself should now be impeached.

  81. masslib: Gaming the caucuses, voter fraud, ra*ce baiting statements, foolish presidential seals, no vetting by the MSM, losses chalked up as wins, villification of Hillary, the Rules Committee, ignoring roll call votes, leads me to put some credence into the theory that this whole election has been gamed from the outset.

If Obama loses I will feel vindicated. Until then, I am of the belief that we have been sold down the river of no return.

  82. meanwhile, I’d like to keep my silly little fantasy about a bunch of crusty white guys led by Rove drinking expensive scotch in a dark-paneled smoke filled room somewhere, rubbing their grubby little hands together and plotting Obama’s October demise.
It’s the only thing keeping me going.

  83. I do see a lot of similarities between Nazi Germany and what has been going on in our country within the last decade starting with the Bush administration’s demands that one isn’t American unless we support mass murder in the Middle East to the Obama campaign’s brainwashing tactics that he will bring Hope to the nation and anyone else who doesn’t agree is a r_a_c_i_s_t. I see both of the major parties leading our country to destruction and it is scary as hell.

  84. Are you ready for a BIASED debate?! (McCain not told of Ifill’s conflict of interest!)
    http://noquarterusa.net/blog/2008/10/01/are-you-ready-for-a-biased-debate/
    ………….

Thursday’s VP debate is rigged Gwen Ifill “THE AGE OF OBAMA” is moderating and going to sell her best seller about OBAMA. THIS WHOLE ELECTION HAS BEEN RIGGED FROM THE BEGINNING, THEY ARE JUST UPSET WE NOTICED. :-(

  85. Gary, first, impeachment is most certainly a political process. Second, impeachment clearly effects politics. Third, I think impeaching Bush and Cheney was warranted. That’s not at all the point. She took it off the table because there was no political will and they saw it as an election loser.

  86. Pat Johnson, on October 1st, 2008 at 11:10 am Said:

Yes, the press and the Dem Establishment did not want Hillary, and want Obama. That’s obvious.

  87. Ok, that’s it. It’s time for me to invoke my vote-jinx.

    I’m voting for Obama! O-BA-MA! O-BA-MA!

(I have a great track record of voting for losers. Haven’t voted for a winner in a Presidential race even once.)

  88. When Hillary was up for Pres, I thought, hell yes, this is what I want to be a part of. This is what I will work towards, the legacy that I can help leave. But as events unfolded I became convicinced that what I have to work towards now, what I have to be a part of, is making sure we keep Obama from power. An Obama presidency (presidency?- would it even be that?) — that is a legacy I would feel so very, very ashamed to have left. I have no wish to be our equivalent of a “good German.” No thanks. No Obama.

  89. masslib, Clinton was consistently hamstrung by dems when he did have a majority, that’s how we ended up with DADT.

  90. angelasmith, on October 1st, 2008 at 11:10 am Said:

I could not agree more….to me they bring the kids in so aggressively for their own emotional pay off….like via the kids, they can get back to the land of pooh with Christopher Robin. It’s about them being children ….&IMO it’s child abuse

  91. I am not so sure about an October surprise happening. All the evidence is out there, at least enough to warrant inspection, and none has actually materialized. I think the Rev Wright moment has lost any momentum and he was able to extricate himself from that possible debacle that it has lost any effect it might otherwise have had had this been a clean election.

He has managed to put Rezko and ACORN aside without repercussions so unless the charge is based on the fact that he may be a sexual predator, he skates.

  92. masslib, it is a constitutional tool not a political one. If, as you implly, she did not go that route out of political expediency, then she deserves to be impeached herself. I’m sorry I don’t agree with your assessment.

  93. pat must you ruin it?

    stateofdisbelief
    can we haz therapy today?

  94. Divided govt is the best choice right now. The Dems just wanted to give over $100,000,000,000 to ACORN for God’s sake. Everyone should be frightened to death of a Dem congress with Obama at the helm. Heaven knows what kind of atrocious legislation, higher tax burden, corrupt spending we will be facing. We don’t need more spending right now if the ones writing the bills and signing them are corrupt.

We need divided govt to ensure that only the real solutions to our problems get voted on and signed into law. masslib thinks we will get FDR style reform if we elect Obama and a Dem congress. That idea makes me laugh hysterically when you put it up against what Obama has said and done just in the past week. Did everyone hear Kucinich explain how Obama expressly stated that he did NOT want protections for people facing foreclosure in the house bill? Stop thinking of Dems as FDR like. What have they done in the past 8 years that makes you think they are aligned with that governing style?

  95. What’s the difference between jesus camp kids, 70′s campus jesus freaks, hitler’s brownshirts, and these obama kids? Sadly nothing. They all follow something religiously that they don’t have the age or wisdom to even understand. How horribly unfair and destructive to kids it is for parents to get them roped into something like this. If obama loses, what will the effect be on such kids. When hitler was defeated what was the psychological impact on the young brownshirts. OK, you know someone had to say it…. for god’s sake, think of the children. :-) Anyway, sickening to the extreme. What is wrong with these people?

On the Ifill issue, I think the McCain camp should actually give them an ultimatum. Either use someone else or the debate is off. Especially if they’re worried about Palin’s performance. Then again, when the “journalist” is obviously and severely biased and bashes Palin, it can end up providing a backlash that helps Palin. Though since that already happened perhaps it’s hard to get the same effect when it happens again. Maybe the response of many americans is: well, you walked into the charlie interview and were blindsided, and we were on your side for that, but if you do it again when you should know how biased they are, we’re a bit less sympathetic.

  96. expose it for what it is, Mawm. thank you

  97. I’m actually wondering … if it looks like Obama is going to win if we shouldn’t vote for repubs for the house. I agree that divided govt is needed to stop an Obama steamroller. He is bush redux, and look what 6 years of one party rule got us. Not to mention that Nancy Pelosi needs to go. She has proven to be as big a danger to this country as bush

  98. As soon as Pelosi said impeachment was off the table, I knew the fix was in. Stop looking at these people as Dems. They are corporate tools. They just have a different set of speeches they give to convince you they are on your side.

  99. “FDR’s congressional majorities began to erode in 38 and 40 because people started turning.”

FDR had huge majorities for most of his Presidency and always had the majority.

  100. angelasmith,

If you are the one from salon…my hats off to ya. You held out longer than me in defending Hillary there. Towards the end I packed my bags and left. I couldn’t take it anymore, especially all the sexist remarks directed at her and us.

You were great! I have great admiration for you. :-)

VAcardinal, I understand your point, but I think Sara Palin has shown she can suck it up, not complain, and succeed with her positive approach. To withdraw now would set her up as petulant and fragile, and I feel she is neither. It’s a crappy draw, but I think she will prevail. Champions usually do.

  102. weren’t a lot of those democrats in FDR’s majority Strom Thurmond type southern dems.?..you know racist and all. I don’t think you can even compare that congress to the present.

  103. Come on, Gary, I don’t like Obama, but the one Party rule was the fricken republican Party. Further, why would you want that? it would put Obama in a position where he would have tomake deals with the repubs to pass anything. But you know, if the Dem’s have big majorities, they will run the show for the most part.

  104. and the “corporate tool”s will be voting on stealing our wallets shortly..

  105. how are the songs different?

    Obama kids:

    We’re gonna spread happiness
    We’re gonna spread freedom
    Obama’s gonna change it
    Obama’s gonna lead ‘em

    We’re gonna change it
    And rearrange it
    We’re gonna change the world.”

    German’s song:

    Germany was having trouble
    What a sad, sad story
Needed a new leader to restore
    Its former glory
    Where, oh, where was he?
    Where could that man be?
We looked around and then we found
The man for you and me
    And now it’s…
    Springtime for Hitler and Germany

  106. Oh come on, now we are knocking the era of the new deal. That doesn’t make any sense.

  107. For the past 8 years most of the current Dem leadership has been running for president. Clinton, Dodd, Biden, Obama, Kucinich. Much of their time was spent on positioning themselves for the primaries. Eyes were taken off the ball.

The House and Senate under Pelosi and Reid were assisting those efforts on behalf of one candidate. Few were doing work on behalf of the people who elected them to serve. And take a look at the Repubs. Does anyone seriously believe that they would not welcome a Dem for the next 4 years who is going to suffer because of the mess left behind? This offers them cover from the Bush years. They will be able to point and say we did no better.

It is nothing more than a political chess game.

  108. SOD – they would start an investigation into the background of the murdered victim and justify the murder.

  109. Can you imagine what Olberman /Olbynochio would say if kids sung like this for Palin or even Bush?

Sorry I am religious guy and no man needs this type of adoration from kids who don’t know or fully understand the concept of Presidency. Whoever becomes the next President will have their own scandals and morale lapses as no human is perfect. If you treat the person as a religious figure though you will never able to point out their failure so they can correct their way. This is a cult.

At least McCain within the repubs gets criticized a lot and he actually accepts the criticism as honorable even though he disagrees with them unlike O mighty.

  110. I would say Nancy is a puppet, not a player…and any deal / decisions comes from a place alot higher than her. IMO she and other Dem elite approve of what Bush has done and is doing….so why impeach him? She certainly has barked at her own voter base far more than she has ever stood up to Bush….if she can’t stand up to Bush on anything, she certainly could not impeach him. Even if she wanted to….look at this Bill mess. Can anyone see her running an impeachment? If you can’t say” no, Mr.Preasdent” …how could you impeach him? She took impeachment off the table because she could never mount one….for a number of reasons. Her job is to keep us in line for Bush….as we have seen again this last week . Getting what Bush and Co wants is her job . IMO

  111. masslib, are you saying OBama is FDR. Give me a F***ing break. You really need to find a new blog, somewhere where you can cheerlead for that sack of sh** with impunity.

  112. sod
I read somewhere the senate bill will greatly increase coverage for mental health services
i wonder if that’s for the sole purpose of some sort of group counseling intended to “bring around” the last of the Obama holdouts.
    How’s that for tinfoil?
    ;-)

  113. masslib explain how obama is any different than bush? you’re dismissive tone towards others with different viewpoints is wearing thin.

  114. Mawm, on October 1st, 2008 at 11:23 am

    Exactly

  115. Pat, I agree. I basically think the repubs in Congress think they will have a better chance winning seats if they have a Dem President to run against. But, I still think if they don’t come up with something aside from tax cuts for the rich, deregulation, and hating lots of different groups of people, they will continue to lose elections. Look, Mccain could have emulated TR and I think a lot of people would have liked that, but he wasn’t willing enough to break away from his Party’s bankrupt ideology.

  116. Hey Woman Voter,
I’m not the person you mentioned. I never posted at Salon. But I’m glad to be sharing the name of someone who stood up for Hillary so well.
    Viva la resistance!

  117. Amen Mawm.

  118. paper doll: The Majority and Minority leaders of each party are voted into that position by their colleagues. Those colleagues going in know where each prospective candidate seeking that office stands. They were aware of Nancy’s positions when they cast their lot with her.

  119. Greta Van Susterin @ Gretawire has a poll up about whether Gwen Ifill should step down as moderator of the VP Debate.

Thus far, most seem to think she should hit the road.
    Gwen that is, not Greta.

Gary, I think he’s exactly like Bush. I can not stand the guy. however, when you run on a Party ticket you come with a lot of interest groups, elected officials, professional bureaucrats, and a base of voters who will not let you push issues Bush pushed. Well, if you want to kick me out go ahead.

  121. weren’t a lot of those democrats in FDR’s majority Strom Thurmond type southern dems.?

In the south, they certainly were. FDR even appointed Hugo Black, a southern Klansman, to the supreme court.

  122. Of course Obama is no FDR. I just wrote that in a post yesterday. I was speaking to the assumption that one party rule, when it’s the Democrats, is less good than a Repub president and a Dem Congress. Put it this way, if it was Hillary, would you want the repubs to control congress?

  123. Ditto Mawm.

  124. Someone please offer me one instance, other than what happened during the past week, where the voice and will of the people has mattered to those in charge during the last 8 years? Do I hear the word “never”?

We were encouraged to e-mail, fax, call on those supers who could have stood on principle to make this a fair and balanced election. Instead we were ignore, discredited, and in the case of Donna B and a few others, were told to go to hell.

We have little or no power left. It resides in the hands of the corporations and their compliant Igor’s in congress.

  125. masslib, I never threatened to kick you out. I just said that I though you were being dismissive of other peoples opinions. Phrases like “that doesn’t make any sense” denigrates other commenters and in my opinion is bullying. I don’t like it is all… my opinion

  126. kenoshaMarge – I was actually the first to vote this morning in that poll. Greta is on it.

  127. Pat Johnson, on October 1st, 2008 at 11:32 am

    hmmmm. Which party was this??

  128. CNBC to discuss the Mental Health parity.

  129. This video seems to be quite apropos with Halloween on the way.

  130. The one positive that may come out of this rigging is an actual groundswell of a grassroot movement. Term limits. Real oversight. A complete turn off of politics as usual. The women’s movement may take on a wholly different hue going forward. That is just a guess and a hope on my part for the public to become more actively involved in how their government is actually run.

Right now, we are held hostage to corporate interests. Not a good thing.

  131. This parallel was first drawn at the Reclusive Leftist: http://www.reclusiveleftist.com/2008/09/30/god-help-us/

  132. pat, I don’t know how I feel about term limits, but don’t you think that would require an amendment to the consitution?

  133. One party rule is an open invitation to more secrecy. In other words, they and they alone, decide. Very unhealth, very undemocratic, very dangerous. Opposition, even coming from the back benchers, is far sounder than bobble headed decisions.

LOL, come on, Mawn. that’s unfair. i can not be more clear. i can not stand Obama. I think he’s incompetent. i think he’s out of touch. I think he is trashing FDR’s legacy. But at the end of the day, McCain is offering nothing but “low taxes, no spending”. That’s just totally unappealing. There’s absolutely nothing in it for me.

  135. Masslib was a trouble maker at Talk Left when Jeralyn supported Hillary during the primaries.

  136. Catarina, I too keep thinking that the Repubs have always had a plan in their back pocket and for once I’m hoping they do again. Where is Rove when you need him?

I agree Pat – Nasty Nancy went into a closed door meeting with Bush and Rove when she first took office as Speaker – and when she came out of the meeting we never heard another peep about impeachment – conspiracy theory or not I believe it.

  137. anna, I think I mentioned this comparison to pat yesterday afternoon in comments, just didn’t post it until this morning. I’m sure it came to many peoples minds….

  138. Thanks, for letting me know angelsmith. Yup, that one is a tough one and she has more resistance than I could muster. When I would get knocked down she would perk up and push them back. Then they would bring up things that we have all been called. Including being frigid…what does that mean anyways?!?

But yes, you share a name with another good person. I will go take a look one day and see if she is still pushing them back. Many would ask us to leave! How dare they, we had premium membership and had been making comments on all articles before the election. Their loss…

  139. Well, I would have absolutely loved a Democratic Congress with Hillary as President. But I’m a liberal Democrat. And, I think this country is on the brink and could have used a new New Deal.

  140. gary: Possibly, and I have always defended the right to vote for whomever as a violation of free speech. But we have seen some of these idiots so entrenched and beholden to special interests and that fact, coupled with their long held desires, to maintain that seat in congress at whatever cost, has led to some of the worst legislation ever.

If we can hold the president to an 8 year maximum term it may be a good idea to start looking at minimizing these “career pols” who have no use for their constituencies beyond their votes.

Hell, do you think Robert Byrd is still effective after more than 40 years in congress? I don’t. New ideas and new programs are needed and can come about with a certain amount of infusion into the system every 20 yrs or so.

  148. Gary,

I posted a piece about Kids for Obama, where I compared these tactics to Hitler Youth. I also linked to some some current videos where babies of today were lovingly brought into the cult of Obama. Right on Obama’s website, there were Obama coloring books, kids could host Obama sleepover parties, and even make sure their parents got to the polls. It said that having your parents cast a vote for Obama would be just like the kid was voting. Creepy.

Sure the Repubs were in charge then but where was our minority leadership, particularly the vaunted CBC whose constituencies would more than likely be the first to feel the pinch? Did I hear the words “nowhere to be found”?

Get a grip. There is no one running or currently seated who is on our side completely. Want some cash infusion slipped into your upcoming campaign? Vote my way say the lobbyists.

    Obama presidency?
We know what they’ll be chanting…

  158. oooh Catarina and I have a torch!

  159. One more thing about Ifill. Because of this extreme conflict of interest (where she will personally profit from one candidate winning and is clearly promoting him in a book), if she is a journalist she will recuse herself. If she doesn’t recuse herself, then she isn’t a real journalist and so should be removed as moderator.

urgetocompute I agree, McCain/Palin really can’t easily drop the debate because even though reasonable given the bias it wouldn’t play well to americans. They’re stuck.

But at least they have some ammo when the gotcha questions come. In fact, I think when Ifill asks a gotcha question, Palin should just laugh and say, ah, here comes the gatcha questions. And instead of answering it, she should look directly at her, smile and point out Gwen’s bias and the possible reason she’s asking a question not to inform the voter but just to make me look bad (and to personally make more money). It would be ballsy. But then again, it’s always difficult to confront people other than your competitors. So she probably can’t do that very easily.

  160. state, when did democratic extremist get pass policies just because the D Party was in the majority? That’s not how it works.

In a McCain presidency, I see the first woman VP ever.

    :-)

I hope for our sake they win.

  167. maslib, I fail to see how anyone in their right mind could think that an Obama presidency even WITH a Dem Congress would in any way be good.

Do you honestly think that the party would stand up to him on ANYTHING? Not only is Obama not FDR, the Dems backing him are NOT FDR-type Dems. If he gets in, the FDR-type Dems will be even more marginalized than they are, and the Obamacrat party will rule the roost. The Obamacrat party bears no resemblance whatsoever to a genuine Liberal. They are fucking authoritarian new-world-order insane people.

I don’t want ANYONE’S vision shoved illegally and un-democratically down the throats of the American people, and it makes it NO better if that “vision” is a nominally progressive one as opposed to a conservative one.

I am about Democracy, first and foremost. So to me, a benevolent and “socialist” dictatorship is STILL a dictatorship, and is as rotten and putrid at its core as anything the PNC or the neocons ever cooked up. An Obama presidency with a compliant congress is way fucking scarier to me than a McCain whitehouse whatever the makeup of congress, simply because McCain has shown no sign, ever, of wanting to rule the goddamned world and quash all dissent or alternative views. This time around it is the DEMS who are showing that ugly tendency, and we need to look at the parties as they currently ARE, not drape them in either glories or sins gone by.

I do not want ZEALOTS in charge of my country, whichever side of the aisle they hail from.

  168. Here, here, WMCB

  169. Thanks, WMCB. Glad to see you today.

  170. One party rule under an Obama presidency will be a disaster. He is not even president yet and he is already threatening to sue radio and television stations willing to run anti-Obama ads. His Obama truth squad includes to state officials (Missouri Prosecuters and Sheriffs) willing to criminally prosecute anyone that is running what Obama believes to be false and/or misleading ads. His “Kids for Obama” is not only creepy but is indoctrination.

Obama with a Dem Congress, and you can kiss your civil liberties good bye. Of course, this will be alright since it will all be for the glorification of Obama, the saviour of the world!

  171. Look, i am not making the case for Obama. Honestly, this election is horrible for me. We were finally reaching a consensus on health care and with Hillary’s plan i would have a chance to opt-in to Medicare. Again, I have lived nearly my entire adult life without health insurance. It’s actually painful to me to see Obama’s ad demagoguing UHC. But mcCain isn’t offering anything to help the little guy at all. There are no good choices this year.

  172. Blue shirts.

I thought immediately of Hitler’s Brown Shirts

Children used to sing “Jesus loves me” like that. They are now being taught to worship Obama.

  173. joanelle, apart from any policy positions, I find this attitude in leaders dangerous:

“I know what is best for America, and if the people don’t like it, fuck them.”

That is WRONG, and it does not matter if that kind of crap is coming from the Left or the Right, it is WRONG, and fucking DANGEROUS. So to argue that the people who have made it very clear that this is their goal and their core governing style will be somehow “better” than the batshit crazy neo-cons is very very naive. They are flip sides of the same coin. I’ll take a moderate Republican or a moderate Democrat, either or, but I will NOT put my country in the hands of zealots with a blinding vision, to be ENFORCED on the public,. Whether I agree with their policies or not is immaterial.

  174. masslib, I understand your frustration. UHC was a huge part of my initial reasons for supporting Hillary. But if you told me we could have UHC tomorrow, only it would be achieved by dishonesty, disenfranchising, and thuggery against the people (who really don’t know what’s good for them), I’d have to pass. NOTHING is worth endorsing that kind of rot at the core of this country’s political process. Nothing.

  175. WMCB, the only way we are going to achieve UHC is through the Congress. Obama has already ceded the argument.

  176. FL voter

if god forbid, it happens and we cry that our civil liberties are gone they’ll tell us it’s because of the republicans!!!!!

ive already seen that one floating around..the republicans did this to your civil rights, what can we do??

  177. I said last March – keep your children close to you – these people are invasive – intrusive.

    This makes my flesh crawl.

  178. masslib, we are not getting UHC this time around, period. It’s not happening. Getting a Dem congress is not going to do one thing in that area, especially if Obama is prez, because he will set the agenda. Again, what have you seen this year that makes you think a Dem congress would in any way defy Obama on anything whatsoever? They will rubber stamp whatever he wants, and ignore what he ignores. The committees, the assignments, all the power to set agendas in Congress will be portioned out to worshipping Obamacrats.

  179. Does anyone have a link to the story about Gwen Ifill given Obama Camp the questions for Biden? Anyone know?

  180. Masslib — no one’s knocking the New Deal. We’re making the contrasts between FDR “A Great Man” and Obama an empty-shirted, petulant, arrogant, narcissistic, tool.

But that wasn’t my point. My point was one Party rule when it the dem’s works better for me than the repubs.

  181. Put it this way, if it was Hillary, would you want the repubs to control congress?

BUT IT’S NOT HILLARY! That’s the point. How could you trust anything Obama would do in that position? It ALWAYS goes back to the same issue for me: voting for him endorses the corrupt and anti-democratic practices that got him into this position. It is non-negotiable. I can’t even believe it’s become a topic of conversation here, and masslib keeps bringing it up as an option. NO DEAL!

  182. Woman Voter: surely you jest.

  183. Gary, I’ve been arguing this very point until I’m blue in the face and I swear I feel like Kevin McCarthy in Invasion of the Body Snatchers. :

  184. JulieS9164–absolutely! I’ve been thinking that for a long time. Thanks for the link! Brought back memories. Yikes! I saw the movie on TV as a kid.

  187. LadyBoomer – me, too. Every once in a while they’d show it on the 4:30 movie on channel 7. It always made a strong impact on me, and it wasn’t until many years later that I understood that the pods were a metaphor for communism.

I thknk this is why Sarah Silverman and the Schlep for Obama think made me sick to my stomach. 188. Thanks woman voter. I went and voted.

This elections reminds me of the movie NETWORK

I have been playing a Duran Duran/Arcadia song called “Election Day”

It is very fitting for the times. The song is by Simon LeBon and I think John Taylor but is basically Duran Duran . They released it under their in between band’ called Arcadia.

  189. JulieS9164 — Bubbie and Zayda’s kids and grandkids can’t hear or see anything. Nobody home, sadly, and convinced we should all follow.

fif, Woman Voter — thanks for the tips re: Gwen Ifill, Greta wire and Commission on Pres. Debates. Their phone number has been busy for last 2 hours. Hmmm. I’ll go vote on Greta.

  190. All Afro American Gal — Ooo, thanks for music tip. Sounds like a good accompaniment for a post. Will listen.

  191. Gwen Ifill …shill for Barry and good friend of Connie Rice. Tell me again how Barry is not Bush 5.0.?
The upper crust want Barry, like they wanted Bush and for the same reasons .I had to laugh to see the swift boating ads, such as they are about about Obama’s stand on taxes!? Thats not the GOP I know. WTF

  192. It really is. That’s exactly what I think of when I see these creepy Cult of Obama singing children videos. Great movie, by the way.

  193. No problem Lady Boomer

here is a you tube link

  194. Hear, hear WMBC

I feel like I’ve been driving by lately – these 18 hour days are killers, but I work in the industry that will be seeing many more layoffs, so I’m doing what I’m asked (single mom, college kids, elderly invalid parent).

My take on McCain – after reading left and right blogs (yes, no eating lunch for me – need to keep up) I’ve noticed a strong wind against McCain from the right. He needs this base to win. But their seeing through his “conservatism” and think he’s too “bipartisan”. So he’s trying to keep them in line.

My prediction is that he has only 4 years and he knows it. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he shows centrist colors once he’s in. What can his perty’s right wingers do? Impeach him? I think we’re going to see his support with respect to some items on the Dem agenda. To discuss them now would be political suicide.

I’d rather take a risk with him, he’s run a relatively honorable campaign without the agitprop hoopla and the castro speeches, than one with Obama, who I believe will not brook any dissension just as doesn’t now, and who has always run an unethical appaling campaign.

Give me 4 years I know I will survive with hope at the end since Hillary will run, than a very good chance of no hope at all.

A thought, if Obama does not win, he and his team have seen what works. They’ve tested every theory and found it successful. Next time they will come back stronger.

On Nov. 4th, I will be an election judge in a neighborhood where only downticket dems and rep have sign on lawns. My town is predominantly rep – we were the only dem sign 4 years ago and NO ONE took it down. Now we have a few scattered Obama sign, but 90% of the lawns are empty. My neighbors on all sides say they don’t want the signs up because they are afraid of vandalism. Same goes for stickes on cars – though I’ve seen some Hillary stickers with the word PUMA hand written on them. We have a college nearby.

If people live in fear now, what next?

  195. Check this out guys on Chicagoans Against Obama:

  196. Pat : “Someone please offer me one instance, other than what happened during the past week, where the voice and will of the people has mattered to those in charge during the last 8 years? Do I hear the word “never”?

Two items. The Dubai port deal was shuttled. And the immigration reform law was nixed. Regardless of where one stands on these two issues, both deals were shouted down by enough “regular folks” to make a difference.

  197. ok, I’m a dumbass. what movie is the Hitler Youth clip from?

  198. murphy — Cabaret with Liza Minnellli.

  199. really? wow — who’s the hot guy sitting at the cafe?

  200. hey murph…that’s michael york. He was in all the austin powers movies….if you’re a sci-fi fan, you might remember him from Logan’s Run…

  201. unless you’re talking about the other guy…I don’t know who he is :)

  202. Are these kids the future members of Uh-bama’s National Security Force ?

  203. thanks gary! I used your post as a springboard for mine this afternoon.

    this is quite, quite disturbing.

yup — michael york is hot.

  204. All Afro American Gal — Thanks for the Arcadia “Election Day” link. I can hardly listen to the song, I’m too distracted by hair and makeup! 80s! :)

  205. This disturbing video was made, I understand, at 12:00 pm on a Sunday afternoon. The resemblance to the Hitler youth is uncanny, but what really bothers me is the utter flawless resemblance to so many children’s choirs I have seen in churches. Change the words from Obama to Jesus and you have a church children’s choir. Most Sunday morning church services get over about 12:00 pm. When the yes-we-can chant starts, I get chills and my mind wanders to The Lord of the Flys. I’m truly disturbed by this video.

  206. Make that Flies I guess.

  207. Not only is this clearly indoctrination into a particular ideology, but more importantly, a political candidate! These young kids were willing to die for Dear Fuhrer, in addition to the Nazi party itself.

This is so very dangerous, and the downfall of Liberals will be caused by feeling that their good acts could never be tainted by EVIL.

  208. That’s totally a McCain campaign ad. Just play it, dust your shoulder off and call it good.

  209. Garychapelhill, is that your puppy in you profile picture? CUTE!

  210. For the life of me I can’t understand why most of America is alright with this O-stuff! If I “were” an Obama supporter he would have lost me after the greek temple thingie, but now this video is just way OTT. It’s not north korea, or is it now? Dean/Obama evil plan uncovered

    just sayin

  211. AAO — this is a politio-religious cult

Did the comment “Jesus was a community organizer, Pontious Pilate was a governor” give it away?

Everyone start asking your atheist friends how the hell they can endorse someone who encourages these comparisons to Jesus, and will expand the Faith-based initiatives program instead of getting rid of it.
