I mentioned it yesterday, but I think it needs to be repeated. Barack Obama is a bigot. He has just launched a “Faith, Family, Values Tour” which will feature Douglas Kmiec, a supporter of Proposition 8, a consitutional ban to California’s legal gay marriage.
The Brody File that beginning next week the campaign will start an official faith tour in key battleground states called “Barack Obama: Faith, Family and Values Tour”. The subheading of the tour is as follows: “Voting ALL Our Values”
The Brody File is told that top faith surrogates will hit the trail for Obama. Some of those high profile figures include Former Indiana Congressman and pro-life Democrat Tim Roemer, Catholic legal scholar Doug Kmiec, and author Donald Miller. You can also expect a soon to be named Evangelical North Carolina (red state) Congressman to travel the country as well. All of these surrogates are well versed and comfortable talking faith and politics. This is clearly a sign by the Obama campaign that they plan to target red state and swing state moderates.
Obama thinks that gay people can be used to help him get elected and then stab them in the back before they even get to the voting booth. And you know what? he’s probably right. That’s because the largest gay rights advocacy group, the Human Rights Campaign, has been giving it up for free since they endorsed Obama, despite his long list of homophobic friends and associates. Here is a sample of what Kmeic had to say about same sex marriage when he wrote in support of Prop 8 in a SF Chronicle op-ed:
Beyond correcting the court’s disregard of the separation of powers, insisting upon preserving the link between marriage and procreation: 1) promotes the orderly continuation of the species; 2) avoids the uncertainties of single-gender effects on children (most parents readily recognize the distinctive contributions of male and female in child rearing); and 3) takes respectful account of the difficulties of accommodating religious freedom that arise subsequent to the legal acceptance of same-sex marriage. Oddly, and incompletely, the California Supreme Court managed to ignore these important issues in its 170-plus page opinion.
The proponents of same-sex marriage insist that inventing gay and lesbian marriage harms no one, but the above concerns suggest otherwise. Moreover, it overlooks the national and global decline in fertility, which threatens the economies of Europe and contributes to the weakness of our own…
Separating marriage from procreation may also have other remote, but frightening, ill consequences. Society should be skeptical of wider use of asexual procreation. An earlier dark moment in U.S. history employed eugenics to forcibly sterilize the mentally disabled. The push for artificial wombs and the genetic manipulation of intelligence already peppers scientific literature – a push that would no doubt grow, accommodating even the minimal same-sex desire for simulating natural child birth – claimed to be of interest for 20-30 percent of same-sex couples. When carefully assessed, the acquisition of unnatural reproductive means often advances the interests of the very affluent through a libertarian exercise that would threaten all hope of democratic equality.
Just let THAT sink in for a minute. Essentially gay marriage is a threat to children, religion, and the very survival of the species. Those are pretty extreme views if you ask me. And they are extreme right wing views. How could anyone who wants to promote equal rights for the GLBT community have anything to do with a candidate who allows these voices into his campaign? Well I called and asked them…I’m hoping a lot of you will too. Please call and ask if they will reconsider their endorsement of Obama since he thinks you or your gay friends are a threat to humanity, then let us know what they said in comments. Here’s the HRC (Human Rights Campaign) phone number.
HRC (Human Rights Campaign) Front Desk: 202/628-4160
TTY: 202/216-1572

If this tour really were meant to promote “ALL values” where are the people of faith who support gay marriage? who support a woman’s right to choose? HRC, Mr. Obama….we’re waiting for answers…

Oh lawd, what must Deval Patrick think now? This is so offensive. Not only is he using anti-gay bigots, but what, no liberals of faith to tour for Obama? He’s just feeding the stereotype. What an a**hole. Reason, 18,000,901 not to vote for NObama.
Hence why the HRC hasn’t seen a dime from me in years no matter how many times I try to get off their mailing list and why I will NEVER EVER vote for Obama.
Not that I advocate violence, but groups like “Obama Pride” (saw them march in NYC) should have the sh*t beaten out of them for being so naive.
“Obama thinks that gay people can be used to help him get elected and then stab them in the back before they even get to the voting booth.”
Obama thinks that Democrats can be used to help him get elected and them stab them in the back. His Bush-like pseudo-religious pandering is an insult to those who hoped the Bush era would finally come to a close.
OT: McCain has just asked for the debate to be postponed until the financial crisis is settled.
Most gays are probably in the Dem=good, Rep=bad mode. But if you stop and think about it, what have the dems ever done for the LGBT community? The answer is NOTHING. All they have ever done is co-opt the strides we have made through our own efforts. Without Gays standing up and demanding the attention to the AIDS epidemic, we would still be pre-AZT/Protease inhibitors. I wonder if McClurkin or Meeks ever think about that, since AIDS impacts the AA community disproportionately to other minorities and whites?
SCUM. They are SCUM.
Like Donna Brazile said, we are an affront to her civil-rights movement. How many AAs agree that the struggle for LGBT rights has nothing to do with them?
Mawm,
Sorry but we had/have a friendly Dem in DC…Clinton And sadly, most of the GLBT community, like the AA community, repaid her standing up for our rights by kicking her to the curb for the next “it” thing-Oblabla.
And least with McCain/Palin we might not be set too far back. But with Obama, we might as well go back to the 80′s in terms of GLBT civil rights–meaning none.
OT
McCain just temporarily suspended his campaign to work on the bailout bil.
He out flanked backtrack again.
I am feeling better about my decision to vote republican this election.
COUNTRY BEFORE PARTY ALWAYS
PUMAS,BUBBAS,AND THOSE PEOPLE RULE
Frightening, positively frightening.
As opposed to all them brown & black & yellow people fertilizing in other continents. This is the same sick twisted comment that John Gordon from Fox said about “whites need to have more white babies!”
Gary, kudos for the post!
OT
And in other news, McCain wants to suspend hsi campaign to work on the financial crisis from the Senate. Y’know, to do the job he was elected to do? (good on ya, JM)
BO saying “No” to suspending his campaign or postponing the debate on Friday.
Mccain is showing true leaderhip. A bold move, but the right move, from the Maverick.
Let there be no doubt that John McCain puts country first!
McCain suspending campaign to deal with Wall Street crisis
NEW YORK, Sept 24
(Reuters) – Republican presidential candidate John McCain on Wednesday said he will break off from campaigning to help on a Wall Street rescue plan and asked that a Friday night debate with Democrat Barack Obama be postponed.
McCain, in a statement to reporters, said he would suspend his campaign on Thursday to return to Washington and called on Obama to join him, saying he had spoken to the Democrat.
He said he did not believe a current $700 billion rescue plan would pass the U.S. Congress in its current form. He urged President George W. Bush to call for a bipartisan meeting of lawmakers to try to find an agreement.
“It’s time for both parties to come together to solve this problem,” he said.

Text: John McCain’s Remarks on the Economic Crisis
September 24, 2008
America this week faces an historic crisis in our financial system. We must pass legislation to address this crisis. If we do not, credit will dry up, with devastating consequences for our economy. People will no longer be able to buy homes and their life savings will be at stake. Businesses will not have enough money to pay their employees. If we do not act, ever corner of our country will be impacted. We cannot allow this to happen.
Last Friday, I laid out my proposal and I have since discussed my priorities and concerns with the bill the Administration has put forward. Senator Obama has expressed his priorities and concerns. This morning, I met with a group of economic advisers to talk about the proposal on the table and the steps that we should take going forward. I have also spoken with members of Congress to hear their perspective.
It has become clear that no consensus has developed to support the Administrations proposal. I do not believe that the plan on the table will pass as it currently stands, and we are running out of time.
Tomorrow morning, I will suspend my campaign and return to Washington after speaking at the Clinton Global Initiative. I have spoken to Senator Obama and informed him of my decision and have asked him to join me.
I am calling on the President to convene a meeting with the leadership from both houses of Congress, including Senator Obama and myself. It is time for both parties to come together to solve this problem.
We must meet as Americans, not as Democrats or Republicans, and we must meet until this crisis is resolved. I am directing my campaign to work with the Obama campaign and the commission on presidential debates to delay Friday nights debate until we have taken action to address this crisis.
I am confident that before the markets open on Monday we can achieve consensus on legislation that will stabilize our financial markets, protect taxpayers and homeowners, and earn the confidence of the American people. All we must do to achieve this is temporarily set politics aside, and I am committed to doing so.
Following September 11th, our national leaders came together at a time of crisis. We must show that kind of patriotism now. Americans across our country lament the fact that partisan divisions in Washington have prevented us from addressing our national challenges. Now is our chance to come together to prove that Washington is once again capable of leading this country.
God Speed!
Country First!!

OT: Big Dawg postponing campaign appearances in observance of the Jewish holidays. NOT a joke.
WTF Bill, never looked at a calendar before, honey?
It took me a few moments to get my mouth closed after reading this post. When will they learn? If the Obama campaign would just stick to one set of principles, whatever they may be, people would respect that. That’s why so many people voted for GWB. Not because they necessarily agreed with the idiot, but at least they knew where he stood. Kerry tried to be all things to all people and ended up looking like a fool. People don’t vote for fools.
I can’t believe the Democrats haven’t figured this out yet. Obama is acting like he can win over evangelicals by throwing the LGBT community under the bus without losing any votes on the left. Yeah, that strategy worked great with Clinton voters, we’re all lining up to support him.
18 months ago or so there was a discussion on a left blogistan site about winning the “middle class” vote. Somebody suggested that the Democrats give up abortion and LGBT rights as issues forthe presidential campaign.
Give up one right, you give them all up.
Reg: Of course he knew, and now he has the good excuse to postpone. Gawd is that Big Dawg smart or what??
SM: He’s smart but it’s not even a really GOOD excuse. It’s literally (no offense to Jews, because I love you!) like “OMG, I have to wash my hair for 40 days and 40 nights–Forgot about that!” Bill’s not even Jewish.
*Kisses the Dawg paws* Es muy inteligente, mi perro grande.
I apologize in advance for my questionable spanish. I speak Spanglish as a second language.
GCH: Great post. I’m constantly troubled to see how many of the issues “liberals” claim to espouse that they’ll throw over in a second for the sake of winning. I thought that was the other side.
Regency – No apologies, it’s perfect! Ok, Bill’s not Jewish but who’s going to fight him on the reason given? Whoever does will look really really bad.
Regency – I guess you can’t use the old stand-by “It’s early this year.”
SM – anyone who picks on Bill looks bad. He’s smart. Respecting voters always is. Ah, I love it. He’s going after the “cracker vote”. *dies* He’s a Saltine and Hillary’s a Ritz. Chelsea’s a Graham.
Arabella: Not this time!
SM, thanks for pointing that out. I really should have pointed out just how racist Kmiec’s op ed is. it is reminiscent of facist scapegoating of one group as a “mortal danger” to the rest of society. I think that it is incredibly toxic in that it exploits peoples fears about the failing economy and uses gay marriage as a threat to economic stability. eerily similar to Germany in the 30′s.
Douglas Kmiec was a reliable flak for Ken Starr in the 90s.
and it does sound a lot like Gibson’s “we need more white babies” remark.
Wow. That McCain really is a maverick. His Top Gun spirit really knows how to cut and pivot, and that takes guts. He doesn’t know how this will be received, but he’s going with his instincts. Of course Obama is p*ssed because he’s practicing for the debate weally weally hard all week.
What a woos. The problem is, the media will find a way to make it a fault of McCain’s and a testament of BO’s great leadership abilities.
Looks like if I understood the calendar correctly that Bill won’t be campaigning in FL at least until early to mid-October. Yeah, they’re calling it a day on early voting apparently.
From the quoted material: “preserving the link between marriage and procreation”
What democratic values. NOT.
Now I know McCain’s people are reading the PUMA blogs: “John McCain announced that he will suspend his presidential campaign on Thursday to return to Washington to help with Wall Street bailout negotiations. He urged his opponent Barack Obama to do the same.”
http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/09/24/mccain-suspends-campaign-to-help-with-bailout/
I remember reading from someone here that O should cancel the debate, instead, JSM did. Very interesting.
After October 10th.
NV: He’s even cutting his ads out for the time being. Leadership, is that you? It’s been a long, long time.
This doesn’t surprise me in the least. Barack Obigot is desperate for evangelical votes because they realize we’re not “coming home”. I doubt he’ll get many, except those in the AA community who dislike gays already. He has that vote anyway. White evangelicals will come out in droves to vote against him, whether they like McCain or not.
Didn’t the 9th Circuit just recently rule that gay marriage was allowed in California? What was that based on? I need to look this up.
Nevada won’t allow it either. I know we had some sort of vote a few years ago and it was overwhelmingly (I was shocked) defeated. 80% (and we’re a 50/50 state).
18,000,901 not to vote for NObama.
and counting…
LOL @ “the gays” – no offense intended, none taken. Just LOL – the gays
Regency: LOL Perfect!
Bill = Saltine
Hillary = Ritz
Chelsea = Graham
Backtrack says he wants to do both work on the crisis and still have the debate.
Since he has trouble working on one thing at a time how do you think that idea will work out?
As usual its all about him.
COUNTRY BEFORE PARTY ALWAYS
PUMAS,BUBBAS, AND THOSE PEOPLE RULE
nv swing voter…the California Supreme court ruled on it. Gay marriage is 100% legal in California. The proposition 8 would amend the constitution to ban it.
Obama says he can do both. LOL He can’t even do one thing well much less both.
I guess if he gets a 3:00 a.m. phone call while engaged in hanky panky he will refuse to stop because he can do both.
MountainSage
MS: Ew.
Obama thinks he’s got this thing in the bag and he wants to blow McCain out of the park before he loses his nerve. McCain has better things to do. If it’s time sensitive then McCain wins anyway. Dems look petulant right now.
Sorry, OT – but breaking!

garychapelhill,
Thanks for staying on top of this storyline.
Hey, Big Dawg can pander to me any day!
Oh, and the ‘bots are already spinning McCain’s actions. They’re saying he did it to get out of debating The One.
If more of our elected officials had the courage to get their priorities straight (the people of this country come first) we would already have a workable plan. But instead all that the Dems and the Obots are capable of doing is pointing the finger of blame at others. I blame all of our elected officials. They neglected their duty to the American People. “Progressive Blogs” are calling McCain’s postponement of the debate the desparate act of a coward. The coward narrative is extremely distasteful and will backfire. They just don’t get it. This transcends party lines. It is “OUR” country in trouble, and that means all of its people, be they Repubs, Dems, Libertarians, Independents, etc… I have been offended by the Dem’s happiness at our current economic breakdown. What selfish SOB’s rejoicing in the misery of people losing their investments, homes and jobs, just because they think it will help Obama. At this point I don’t give a damn whose fault it is, I just want a solution. And don’t just stop at Wall Street, include health care and the mortgage crisis. I want it all!
BTW, this new Family Values tour is disgusting. That any Dem would attach their name to it is shameful.
Bill = Huggable Squeezeable Jumbo Pander Bear.
If this were an honest chess game, by now McCain would’ve swept Obama off the board. Problem is, the MSM keep giving Obama replacement pieces – pawns, queens, kings, the whole nine checkerboards. McCain should score big time with this move, but the MSM will do its damndest to negate the advantage with its now accustomed dirty tricks.
In fact, I think this was smart of McCain. I think McCain knew he wasn’t going to get the debate moved, BUT this makes people think he is a chicken, which lowers expectations, which is exactly what the McCain campaign wants. Now it looks like Obama is itching for a debate, which leaves people thinking that he must feel super ready…and given the fact that he took 3 days off to prepare he better be ready!
I have got to say, though, looking at the poll numbers today, things do not look good for MCCain…
I don’t think McCain looks chicken at all. He’d rather deal with a national economic crisis than worry about having a debate. he didn’t say he wouldn’t have it. He said let’s postpone it. There are more important things to worry about. And there are.
OT, but unbelievable…. what are these people thinking?
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/09/24/florida-congressman-points-to-palin-to-rally-jews-to-obama/
JJ – those polls are skewed. They changed the matrix and increased the number of Dems in the mix.
Anything to win. Lie, Cheat and Steal.
Obama camp saying it is a political stunt.
This people are sick. I have already lost 20% of my IRA and he is fucking with us.
Gary:
When Obama put that “ex-gay” gospel singer McClurkin in his appearance at the beginning of the campaign, that did it for me right there. That was even before I had learned all the other crap about him. What a slap in the face. My cousin can’t believe how I won’t vote for Obama, because I’m gay! If you’re gay you have to vote for the Dems!!! If you’re a feminist you have to vote for the Dems!!! At least w/the republicans you KNOW what you’re getting. The Dems are stabbing us all in the back this year, while pretending that they actually care about us and our issues. And Obama continues to do it.
I have a colleague here at the college where I work who is also gay, and he said there is no way he’s voting for Obama. And he’s voted straight Democrat all his life. The other professors here have swallowed the kool-aid and can’t believe we’re not voting for the Precious. They. Just. Don’t. Get. It. Of course here in Tennessee, McCain will win big time anyway. I’m voting the Green ticket. Screw the Dems and Obama. I want them to lose big time.
Thanks Gary for this post.
McCain can take Obama with both tortured and scar tissued arms, hands and shoulders tied behind him.
Obama is one sick MF!
Harry Reid telling Obie to come back to Congress. Oops!
Good post Gary
I’m calling HRC right now
Mountain Sage
In the words of Tony Soprano-”That is too f-ed up to even think about!”
for real, Reg??
As in “get your skinny ass back here right now!”??
If nothing else offensive had occurred yet during this election season, this ‘values’ tour would be enough to turn me off, especially with those quotes. I don’t think anyone who works with and associates to his own gain with a guy like Ayers for years has any values.
And see how my erstwhile dems tell me how scary Palin is and how she wants to oppress us all, meanwhile here comes Obama with this creepy crew. Uh-huh.
Bush giving speech tonight to push the 700 billion wall street bailout down our throats. Write your representatives to vote against the bailout!
Cat: Forget it. He saidi something else. Mixed message. He said, I misread, wants debates to happen but we do in fact need Republican support back here.
Forget it. Harry Reid said something and I have no idea what it was.
helen, on September 24th, 2008 at 3:56 pm Said:
Backtrack says he wants to do both work on the crisis and still have the debate.

He can’t do both since he refused to have debates with McCain before. Why is this one so important Obama? Why now?
I was gleefull for a sec there Reg-was hoping Obie was getting
a public scolding.
Silly me-as if!
BPD,
Thanks for the link. If memory serves me right, Alcee Hastings used to be a judge but was removed from the bench. After the scandal of his removal died down he ran for office. I was extremely surprised he won. His only saving grace was that he recognized real leadership in Hillary Clinton and supported her.
Ya’ll read where Bill said they’re sending him to campaign for “the cracker vote” in FL. Ah, Bill has a way with words.
Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid issued a statement saying the debate should go on because “we need leadership, not a campaign photo op.”
Uh, Harry? The DEBATE would be the photo op!!! Taking care of the financial crisis is LEADERSHIP!!
Harry Reid is a sack of shit!
What a stupid thing to say.
Great post, Gary. How is it something else comes along when I think his campaign can’t get any lower! Kmiec’s words are just chilling!
“Moreover, it overlooks the national and global decline in fertility, which threatens the economies of Europe and contributes to the weakness of our own…”
WTF? the world population has grown by 1.5 billion people in MY LIFETIME! What an asshat! How can people buy this dreck? Family size is directly tied to infant mortality and access to contraception. Once a couple know their children are going to survive into adulthood they don’t have any reason to make replacements and CHOOSE NOT TO if they can. It has abso – fucking – lutely NOTHING to do with gay marriage.
Regency,
I’ll let my husband’s family know that Bill is comin’ to call.
Ack! OMG, I’m so glad I wasn’t drinking coffee when I read this. Too damn funny.
FLVoter: You let ‘em know!
” Faith, Family, Values Tour ” . The very title is an insult coming from the Flipper in Chief , Barry . I tell you Axelrod and friends are in a room helplessly laughing their asses off at the obots swallowing this shit .
this from BPD’s link. can anyone tell me what this means. I’m not racist enough to get it I guess:
plus the comments are full of a new smear…Palin thinks that terrorist attacks on Jews is God’s punishment for not accepting Jesus. Where the FUCK did they get that one?
the call to put off the debate by McCain reminds me of in football, where the other team calls a time out just before a big kick…..it’s meant to give Barry even more of the jitters.
“Anybody toting guns and stripping moose
don’t care too much about what they do with Jews and blacks.”
What. The. FUCK.
Consider the source:
Alcee is an impeached judge.
“In 1981, Hastings was charged with accepting a $150,000 bribe in exchange for a lenient sentence and a return of seized assets for 21 counts of racketeering by Frank and Thomas Romano, and of perjury in his testimony about the case. He was acquitted by a jury after his alleged co-conspirator, William Borders, refused to testify in court (resulting in a jail sentence for Borders).”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcee_Hastings
Like Palin’s going to institute a Borat-style running of the Jews? What an asshat.
In 1988, the Democratic-controlled U.S. House of Representatives took up the case, and Hastings was impeached for bribery and perjury by a vote of 413-3. Voters to impeach included Democratic Representatives Nancy Pelosi, Steny Hoyer, John Conyers and Charles Rangel. He was then convicted in 1989 by the United States Senate, becoming the sixth federal judge in the history of the United States to be removed from office by the Senate.
Artemis – to Kmiec, only white babies count.
Wikipedia on Alcee Hastings:
“A Representative since 1993 and a Democrat, Hastings was a lawyer and judge of the circuit court of Broward County, Florida and of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida (1979 to 1989). He was impeached and removed from office for corruption and perjury. He is only the sixth federal judge to be impeached and removed from office in American history”
Is this the best Obama can do to have Alcee Hastings speak for him?
Guys in Alaska must be awful lonely if they’re into moose stripping
…..Anybody toting guns and stripping moose don’t care too much about what they do with Jews and blacks. So, you just think this through,” Hastings added as the room erupted in laughter and applause.
I thought calling these people pods was a joke, but really I’m wondering if the being calling himself
Rep. Alcee Hastings IS a replacement of the original person . God help us if they steal this thing
@JulieS9164: Harry Reid is one scared asshat. What a revealing thing to say.
Guys in Alaska must be awful lonely if they’re into moose stripping
Geeze! I was drinking soda! now I’m wearing it.
what is he implying she wants to “do” with Jews and blacks? these people are insane, and they are stirring up a a HUGE hornets nest. They deserve to burn in hell
Bill Clinton has had enough – not a good use of a former president time to attack McCain
http://edgeoforever.wordpress.com/2008/09/24/bill-clinton-enough-is-enough-wont-dump-on-mccain/
Can he just say something straight?
He is a piece of sh*t!
garychapelhill: “They deserve to burn in hell”
With any luck, they will.
Janis, once again your response says everything that needs saying. rofl!
Carol – are you talking about Hastings or WJC?
if you really feel like losing your mind, go read campbell browns disgusting tripe at cnn I almost threw my monitor out the window. it’s so disgusting I’m not even going to link.
please post the following on as many sites as possible. this was BO yesterday:
23 Sept: CBS: Obama May Not Return to D.C. for Bailout Vote
Although Barack Obama argues that the financial meltdown is an “emergency situation”, he said today that he may remain on the campaign trail, rather than returning to the Capitol, to vote on the $700 billion plan.
“Look if we get a consensus and everybody is popping champagne – then I will probably be going back to campaign with folks who are having a tough time in places like Ohio, and Michigan and Pennsylvania,” Obama said adding, “If this ends up being a close vote or a vote where the outcome is an open question then obviously this is a top priority.”
http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2008/09/23/politics/fromtheroad/entry4472357.shtml
today i’ve checked the corpmedia. all are spinning that BO has taken the lead in this, one way or another, yet they what they are using as proof is merely an alleged call from BO camp to McCain camp suggesting a joint statement. meanwhile corpmedia is already parroting BO campaign talking point that it is a “political gimmick” or similar.
BO’s statement yesterday shows his lack of concern, so please post it everywhere.
“Anybody toting guns and stripping moose don’t care too much about what they do with Jews and blacks. So, you just think this through,” Hastings added as the room erupted in laughter and applause.
—————————————————————-
What a disgusting thing to say. Just gave me another reason not to vote for BO. With supporters like that, I fear for the future of our country.
gary
I just say no to Cambpell.
She is one sorry-assed excuse for a human and not worth your valuable time.
No redeeming value whatsoever.
None.
Gross.
Yuck.
Bush is going to speak at 9 pm eastern, which will cut into Bill’s time on Larry King.
I would rather hear from Bill any day, on any subject.
Bill can’t get no respect at all.
Look if we get a consensus and everybody is popping champagne
I don’t think that anyone is going to be popping champagne no matter what happens. what a stupid fuck. I am so disturbed right now I don’t know what to do…these people are all psychopaths.
Julie – sorry, I am talking about BO. He is a piece of sh*t. After 4 months of ducking out of every chance to debate, now, he needs a debate on Friday without fail.
LOSER!
“If you need me, call me”? WTF Barack? You saying there ain’t no mountain high enough to get you to DC?
Obama can’t vote — he might find himself responsible for something.
Gary, I just called the 800 # and they told me I was the first person who had called to question this tour. I didn’t get the person’s name that I talked to.
Maybe you should call again!
Thanks for posting this, Gary. I’m not surprised that Barry is trying another one of his Gospel tours that actually is stirring up the African Americans’ homophobia just to get him some MORE votes. Doesn’t he have like nearly 100% of their vote already?
The Repub evangelicals aren’t going to fall for this – they will stick with Johnny Mac.
So, the only reason for this tour is to increase Barry’s AA numbers. Again, why use the Prop 8 stuff, though. He is already kicking butt in the polls in California. I just don’t understand why Barry needs to kick us gays under the bus even more with this tour. Is he an idiot?
And to think I used to send HRC all my CFC (combined Federal campaign) money when I was in the Air Force. Ugh.
I am not kidding. I need xanax.
These people are morons. I can’t take any more. They have fucked us coming and going.
CAROL HAKA
He actually said, “If you need me, call me.” What is wrong with him?
jmac, I called at noon, I know mawm called too. I don’t expect them to be too friendly…just like NOW, they’re a bunch of turncoats. HRC has been anyway, they through the T in LGBT under the bus months ago when ENDA was being debated. fuck them all.
carol, I think I’m reaching the same snapping point as you. i need a xanax and a cocktail, stat.
gary – no cocktail with the xanax.
Nope, I was right the first time. Reid said come back. Obie said no can do. So, about that Unity thing.
I’m confused – gary – are you mad at Hillary? I am in shock and can’t understand what’s up.
Human Rights Coalition (Committee?)
“HRC” in this context is the Human Rights Campaign, not Hillary.
I was confused by this too until I worked it out.
Thanks. I couldn’t figure out what was happening.
I think a lot of gays are stuck in the “Democrats good, Republicans bad” dichotomy of yesteryear. The truth is that this is not so clear cut.
Most Democrat politicians hold the same views as many center-right Republicans: unions yes, marriage no. There are a *few* heroes on the left who have actually done something for LGBT people, but there is otherwise no difference between the leadership on the left and the right. Thus, I’m not even voting on this issue this time around.
That Obama would simultaneously institute a ‘separate but equal’ regime for same-sex couples and throw us under the bus is hardly surprising. What is surprising is Palin vetoing a bill that would deny rights to LGBT people and Schwarzenegger warming to marriage equality. Now that’s change.
The Log Cabin Republicans had it right all along: make friends with the opposition. We have a great opportunity this election to do the same.
OMG, just realized…. HRC=Human Rights Campaign, the gay lobby, NOT Hillary R Clinton. I hope everyone else understood that in my post….
Gary: I just called again and left a message. Also, SimoFish got married today but that hasn’t stopped her. She just forwarded me this. Looks like Palin is gaining support from the LGBT community in Alaska:
Obama is on is on his “Faith, Family, and Values” tour (the “poverty tour” with Edwards must have been cancelled). Meanwhile…
Palin Gaining Support Among Gays
Thursday, September 18, 2008 1:22 PM
By: Tim Collie Article Font Size
Sarah Palin is gaining support from an unlikely group: gay and lesbian Alaskans.
Despite her evangelical Christian roots, some openly gay residents of towns throughout Alaska describe Palin as more of a libertarian in her approach to same-sex issues in the Land of the Midnight Sun.
Writing on several blogs, men and women who describe themselves as openly gay say the governor is known for her tolerance and warmth. They dismiss her opposition to same-sex marriage and other issues as political posturing.
A vast state with a small population — fewer than 700,000 people — the Palin supporters describe a go-along, get-along approach to governing that they hope will serve as a template if the McCain-Palin ticket wins in November, they say.
…….
Eric DeLand, an openly gay man who lives in the Kenai area of Alaska and knows Palin, said, “They may not agree with her on everything, but they agree with enough; they’re happy with McCain’s decision to pick Sarah.
“I’ve never seen her mistreat anyone for being gay or for whatever,” he said, adding that many Alaskans are more libertarian than doctrinaire conservative. “You live your life and I live mine; we’ll all just get along.”
That sentiment is shared by other gay bloggers in conservative strongholds.
The blogger Queer Conservative, who lives in the red state of South Carolina, says he’s giving McCain a chance because of Palin. Choosing the Alaskan “showed me that he will listen, that he will change his mind if he thinks it’s the right decision. He won’t be stubborn like Bush even in the face of evidence he’s wrong.”

LOL, Gary! It took me a second read through, but I figured it out.
)
GCH: Could you edit that into the post? I’d hate for somebody to read this and think you meant Hillary.
I think mawm said earlier that dems have done nothing for gays. We have been voting all these years mostly out of solidarity with other minorities. Well fuck that…At least the republicans have kept our taxes low. maybe a whole lot of gays are going to reevalutate…..
sure reg, I didn’t even think of that…
Thanks, Gary!
Mfer, Harry Reid just called McCain and told him NOT to come to DC because he couldn’t be helpful. Who the frak is Harry Reid?
heh…didn’t even see this at the bottom of that Kmiec article….this along with Laura Bush saying Palin wasn’t experienced enough to VP should tell you all you need to know about who GWB supports…I’m going to vomit now

Harry Reid just called McCain and told him NOT to come to DC because he couldn’t be helpful. Who the frak is Harry Reid?
Or rather–who does he think he is?
My guess is that harry reid knows backtrack would be useless in trying to get any thing done and wants McCain to stay away because he would get something done to help the country.
My feeling toward backtrack and those who support him are:

(I will read your full post after I settle down, just home from work.) Re: “The Candidates’ Debate”, ceasefire…
Obama is total B.S.! Saying the President needs to do more than one thing at a time – and yet, Obama himself was holed up in Tampa, FL, not campaigning, but preparing for the damned debate on foreign policy, to be held over at the U of Mississippi – Ole Miss. In other words, he was singularly focusing on the debate about foreign policy, NOT the financial bail-out.
Excuse me – Who was only focused on one thing at a time, and not the crisis at hand?
Before I heard any of this news today, I wondered how Obama was going to vote on the Bail-out Package being proposed. After all, he couldn’t vote “Present” this time if he was “Absent”. I.e., it bothered me that the debate “just had to go on” before the campaign moratorium became news.
Insinuation: John McCain can’t handle doing more than one thing at a time because he’s too old. Bull puckey!
What a hypocrite!
“23 Sept: CBS: Obama May Not Return to D.C. for Bailout Vote
McCain is defining the terms of the debate, choosing the battleground, and is going to compel Obama to vote.
Too bad for Obama that he never bothered to read “On War.” Maybe he should add that to his reading while holed up in his cram session.
I think Barack Obama forgets he is being paid to be a Senator. He needs to friggin’ act like one.
I don’t want to hear what Obama says he will do, show me, jerk. Do something.
And yes, a president should be able to do more than one thing at once IF it’s necessary…he should also know how to set priorities and to understand what needs his personal and immediate attention. A debate is NOT a priority.
McCain needs to send Palin. She can’t debate Obama. That is what America wants. She will wipe the floor with him.
If this creep gets near the WH, I will have to be medicated or move.
He makes me physically ill.
The media is pretending McCain is afraid to debate. They are nuts.
Graham said, “We have asked him to debate for 6 months and now all of a sudden when we are on the brink of total financial failure he is insisting on it. We will let the American people decide.”
Fox is tearing up a BO person. She said isn’t this the time he get to DC and do his job. He said he has staff people. She said, “He’s ready to delegate the most important thing he has ever been sent to do and you say he needs to have an invitation to go back and do his job?”
Battlecat, the Log Cabin Republicans are not trying to “make friends with the enemy.” The Log Cabin Republicans are Republicans who happen to be gay. They have the same values as most Republicans: a belief in free enterprise, minimizing government instrusion in our lives, low taxes, fiscal conservatism, etc. But they also know the truth firsthand–gays are born gay. They aren’t misguided creatures who need to be “cured” of their gayness. 50% of Republicans support civil unions. The Republican party is no more a monolithic group of right wing kooks than the Democratic party is a monolithic group of left wing kooks. If, by “make friends with the enemy” you mean trying to understand those who disagree with you, then I suppose you have a point. But the word “enemy” implies unreconcilable, irrevocable differences that justify the most ruthless tactics (such as war, for example). As a Republican, I would use this word to describe Pelosi or Obama, but not most of the people on this board.
Re the debate, McCain accomplishes a number of things with this move. First, he is right that all members of Congress should be working on this financial crisis right now–and he is clearly differentiating himself and his priorities from Obama. Second, he gets to play with Obama’s mind. You just know BO is sweating this and McCain is cool as a cucumber. Third, it lowers expectations for McCain. (How could McCain prepare for a debate when he was in Washington working on the bailout deal?)
I think McCain should stay in Washington and send Sarah Palin to debate BO in his place. “John is working right now, so I came instead.” Wouldn’t you love to see it?
They’re afraid of putting the P debate too close to the Veep debate because that means that an Obie debate victory will be blunted by a Palin Veep debate victory.
FIX MY COMMENT – She CAN debate.
For all of Obama’s talk about wanting to work in a bipartisan way and get things done, Obama’s refusal to demonstrate any leadership and put his own political aspirations aside to help America in this time of crisis, shows Obama is not running to help the American people, he’s running to help himself.
Words, just words.
So glad John McCain had the guts to do this. He absolutely pulled the rug right out from under Barry!
Obama – Ready To Talk – Not Ready To Lead
To warm you up for 2012! Only Sarah will be her VP.
McCain lived in hell for 6 years. BO is a fucking pig – without lipstick. He is good enough to clean the toilets of McCain’s 13 houses.
BREAKING
McCain is suggesting the first Presidential debate be postponed until Wednesday, October 1, 2008, in St. Louis, MO, the date and location of the currently scheduled VP debate, and then jsut reschedule the VP debate for the following week in Mississippi.
Sounds reasonable to me.
Country First!
Harry Reid just called McCain and told him NOT to come to DC because he couldn’t be helpful.
What a joke these people are! First Reid says, “Uhhh, we don’t know what to do.”
Then, tells Obama to come to DC.
Then, tells McCain to stay away.
No wonder Congress’ ratings are in the toilet. They are really pathetic.
an update to Iron man’s info:
BO has refused to delay the debate
It’s Obama’s Move Now
It makes McCain look engaged in solving the number one issue on the minds of Americans, right now. It gives him a bigger bully pulpit to fight the Christmas tree of legislation that is winding its way through Congress now (even student and car loans have been added to the bailout).
It minimizes the power of Rep. Barney Frank, who has rolled his Senate counterpart, Chris Dodd, and is leading the congressional effort. Rep. Frank is a key Obama ally.
It also presents a strategic problem for Obama

sod, Obama is always “phoning it in”. His VP pick. His response to hurricanes. His response to the PA memorial for flight 93 (okay, that one was an email.).
Obama doesn’t want to get his hands dirty to show up, to rub shoulders with real life. He wants to phone it in.
Obama is a “My Pet Goat” kinda guy.
What a joke these people are! First Reid says, “Uhhh, we don’t know what to do.”

fif, remember also that just yesterday Reid was saying that it would be up to JOHN MCCAIN whether the Dems got behind the presidents proposal. He said that if JSM voted for it, they likely would.

Send in Sarah. My sentiments exactly. I think it would be a huge disrespect to Obie and what could The One do? Refuse to debate her? Now that would look pretty silly. He refuses to go back to DC and participate in resolving a crisis. He refuses to debate the opposition. Obama plays politics with everything.
Well, you know how they will spin that in a split Chicago second (sorry New York). In their warped mindset, McCain will be accused of buying time for hideaway Sarah.
Country First!
NOBama Always…
Obama is really upset because he crammed for the test, and knows he will have forgotten all those answers by next week.
SOD, Obama will show up and debate the ghost of Timmeh, who will offer him a ectoplasmic pillow.
Dave, we’re saying similar things: my exact words were “make friends with the opposition,” not the “enemy.”
I am hoping the first one McCain grabs for discussion when he gets back to DC is OUR HILLARY.
It would please me to no end if a workable compromise had McCain/Clinton written all over it.
LMAO!
The Pakistani President told Sarah Palin she was gorgeous and essentially offered to hug her.
Did Reid really tell McCain not to go to DC? That would only serve to a.) make congressional Dems look petty and too political and b.) bolster McCain’s “maverick” credentials and c.) make McCain look better by allowing him to argue about working, not politicizing.
If Reid did that, it was a stupid, stupid move.
Sad that most readers (NYT) are believing that Mccain’s unpreparedness is the reason why he wants the debate to be postponed. They dont realize how important it is to resolve the current crisis.
Let’s be clear.
NOBama always = NObama never
…emphasis on the syllable NO!
Country First. McCain is doubling up on the old fakir…
Obama says “this is the time that Americans need to hear from” the candidates, so he will keep campaigning.
NO, you BRAYING ASS, this is not the time we need to “hear from” a goddamned soul. We have HEARD you for 19 months. This is the time when we need our elected officials to get off their asses and DO some DEEDS.
Once again Obama proves that reality for him exists in words, not deeds. He is, I think, genuinely puzzled why so many idiots in this country value accomplishments. He finds that whole attitude very foreign and strange.
That would sure make McCain look good in a lot of people’s eyes.
McCain runs the risk of having this come off as a purely political move if he overplays. However, Obama runs the risk of making McCain look presidential if he overplays.
On the debate, Id love to see a debate between Sarah Palin and Obama. Just want that to be true.
Is Obama really comparing Working on the Financial Crisis & Bailout at the same time as Campaigning to Walking and Chewing gum?
That sounds incredibly dismissive. And blasé.
Sujesh, “most NYT readers” and “most commenters” are not the same thing.
Do not make the mistake of judging the opinion of the general populace by comments on online articles. The bots have been swarming those forever.
If online comments were the reality, Obama would be up in the polls by about 70% to 30%. He’s not.
Katie,
The walking and chewing gum line is bad politics. Obama isn’t supposed to be about “the politics of old”. Trying to frame this as a way to campaign while doing official business paints a picture that both are equally good, when most people would rather pols do official business. This is a dangerous move for Obama. Without substantial media help, he could come out of this looking really bad.

Here is what he said on June 25, 2008:

Battlecat, you are correct. Sorry I misread your post.
McCain will show up at the debate now. His point has been made. He will cream Obama and that will be icing on the cake. Sujesh, don’t worry. Serious news junkies don’t read the NYT for news anymore.

Perhaps tomorrow we will see Obama in a helicopter hovering over Wall Street.
LMAO! Yeppers, and he can say of Paulson “He’s doing a heckuva job!”
WMCB, you are so right!
Also, why was the Poverty Tour cancelled? I was looking forward to Bambi, Edwards, and Paris Hilton and their hair stylist driving their AirSteam through Appalachia.
rebelgirl, that’s not breaking, and not relevant to this post. It is typical republican position to be antii gay. You’d do well to stay away from the “they’re doing it too” argument. it is intelluctually lazy and ineffectual. The point is that Obama is associating with someone who makes statements like the one above which is truly reminiscent of Nazi rhetoric. thanks for trying though!
WOW – G, thanks for the article – how timely considering at 10:45 AM PST my girlfriend and I were married by the Justice of the Peace (only way to go) today in Oakland, CA.
I just left my voice mail to the HRC. I will also be e-mailing all my friends. About 5 years ago I cut my ties with the HRC – I used to be very connected there with Ms. Birch – she spoke at one of our National Meetings.
I decided after this primary season to be very careful where I give my money.
that is so awesome simofish. I am jealous. If Gay marriage can survive in CA, it won’t be long before the rest of the country follows suit.
Here is how things have been going in Obama’s cramming foreign policy for the debates:
The 300 advisors and staffers:
“Ay not I, O not Ow, Pounding pounding in our brain.
Ay not I, O not Ow, Don’t say “Rine,” say “Rain”…
Obama: The rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain!
Axelrod: By George, he’s got it! By George, he’s got it!
Now, once again where does it rain?
Obama: On the plain! On the plain!
Axelrod: And where’s that soggy plain?
Obama: In Spain! In Spain!
The aides, advisors and entourage:
The rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain!
The rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain!
Axelrod: In Hartford, Hereford, and Hampshire…?
Obama: Hurricanes hardly happen. How kind of you to let me come!
Axelrod: Now once again, where does it rain?
Obama: On the plain! On the plain!
Axelrod: And where’s that blasted plain?
Obama: In Spain! In Spain!
Apologies to My Fair Lady
Congratulations to you and your spouse SimoFish!

gary, I called HRC and left a message. You know, my father is gay. He was an Anglican priest, and is currently a Benedictine monk (yes, the Church of England has those.) So I guess his brand of faith would not be welcome on this tour, huh? Can’t have those gay people of faith participating – just the loons who think teh gays are going to overrun the world with scary mutant test-tube babies.
This is SICK. I cannot see how HRC could endorse this man.
RebelGirl, McCain is coming toward the issue from the right moving leftward. Obama is coming at the issue from the left, moving RIGHT.
If you can’t tell the difference between those two things, then STFU.
You remind me of a friend of mine who is all over Obama, who opined to me about how her ex-husband gradually slid her over further and further and further until she was smooshed up against the wall, because she kept giving ground in the anticipation that, like a slot machine, she’d given so much to it that she was BOUND to start getting some back any time now.
I’m sick and fucking tired of idiot women who think like that.
And replies like this are why I’m pulling back a lot lately. I’ve lost patience in every conceivable way with goddamned stupid people, and I get nasty when that happens. I don’t like me when I’m nasty.
Janis, I agree about the moving left, moving right thing, and it also MAKES A DIFFERENCE when it is a Democrat doing it. Yes, I do get much angrier at Dems than I do Repubs over gay or womens issues.
I look at it this way: If my dog pees on the couch, I am not happy, but hey, he’s a dog. Maybe I can work with him to minimize that behavior.
If my BOYFRIEND starts pissing all over my house, that is another matter entirely. HIM I am likely to kick to the curb.

Gary, thank you for this. It is indeed discouraging! There are many religious groups that are open and affirming, are they not participating in BO’s “Faith, Family, and Values” tour? UCC, UU, – even the Baptists have a group of affirming congregations (AWAB – Assoc. of Welcoming and Affirming Baptists). MCC? I am a Friend, I bet *we* are not represented, nor any of the traditional “peace churches.” I wonder if I could find a list of participants in this Tour for Faith…
I will call HRC tomorrow, they’re closed now (close at 6pm). I can add HRC to NARAL and NOW – the list of groups that aren’t getting any more money from me for a while.
Obama: “Look if we get a consensus and everybody is popping champagne – then I will probably be going back to campaign with folks who are having a tough time in places like Ohio, and Michigan and Pennsylvania,” Obama said adding, “If this ends up being a close vote or a vote where the outcome is an open question then obviously this is a top priority.”
Translation: Let everyone else do the hard work of hammering out a compromise, twisting arms, making promises across the aisles, building coalitions. Once they have done all the work, I may show up to vote and grab some credit.
Watch your spelling. Watch your grammar.
Dave, where do serious news junkies go? The NYT is a lifestyle magazine now.
WMCB — oh — that is way too funny — I am going to forward that out – will give you credit.

Oh. My. God. That statement by Kmeick is repulsive. He is blaming gays for all kinds of things that regular people have no control over. Whether or no gays marry has nothing to do with the kind of scientific research he is talking about. I have to admit this doesn’t surprise me though. I knew Obama couldn’t be trusted after the McClerkin episode.
McCain aide hits ‘desperate’ Harry Reid
While Senator McCain has suspended campaigning in order to return to Washington and lend his assistance to the negotiations now underway on Capitol Hill, Senator Reid has put out a statement informing McCain that his presence would ‘not be helpful.’ In fact, this is quite a reversal from yesterday, when Senator Reid told reporters ‘We need the Republican nominee for president to let us know where he stands and what we should do.’
Unfortunately, Senator Reid is putting partisan politics ahead of the business of the American people. But there should be no mistake: 24 hours ago Reid and his Democratic colleagues on the Hill couldn’t have been more desperate for Senator McCain’s help in resolving this crisis. Now they’ve got it.

Simofish – Mazel Tov! *sniff* I love weddings.
Hmmm…I am not sure about McCain’s strategy. On the one hand, I think it is smart because it makes McCain look like a doer, not a talker, and it also lowers expectations for the debate on Friday night. On the other hand, I fear that given the media will do everything they can to help Obama, he is overplaying his hand a bit…I also think it was a bad idea to suggest postponing the VP debate because it makes it look like Sarah Palin isn’t prepared, McCain doesn’t really have anything to prove, but people will expect her to prove something…
Speaking of, have any of you seen the transcript of her interview with Couric? I was disappointed, it left a lot to be desired, no specifics at all…I hope they get her prepped soon…
My thought, JJ, is that McCain’s latest tactical move might well be based on the old lowered expectations gambit. Lowered expectations for both him and for Palin re the debates.
Guys and Gals forget about your 401′s. If the debate does not happen Friday at Ole Miss, the students, reporters, and Obama will be very upset.

I consider myself a serious news junkie and I am, well, HERE!
I believe there is no such thing as “unbiased” news, so I try to read as much as I can of everything. The NYT is just so over the top that it is hard to take seriously anymore. I read the WSJ, the Washington Post, Politico, Daily Kos, Sweetness & Light and watch Fox News, MSNBC and CNN to cover the USA and both sides of the political spectrum. If you want to know what the rest of the world thinks, read the Times of London and the Mainichi Daily News. Unfortunately, US news outlets are so parochial that you don’t get much of a world view from them.
My $.02.
Dave, glad we have such a well informed “news junkie” here!
bostonboomer, Obama has been preparing day and night for this debate. He sequestered himself in a hotel room in Floriday, barely doing any campaigning, to prepare for these debates. If he has to wait, he will forget his lines.
I expect McCain to do fine with the debate, after seeing the interview with Sarah Palin tonight…she better find her inner Barracuda, as well as some actual facts to bring to the American people, or Joe Biden will eat her lunch, I am sorry to say. I have really been trying to give her the benefit of the doubt, but I mean I could have spoken more concretely and provided better facts in response to Katie’s questions…she couldn’t name one McCain reform accomplishment? Ugh, I’ve freaking had it tonight. This lying sack of excrement needs to stop preening in front of the mirror-cameras and GO DO HIS DAMN JOB. They can CALL him if they need him? Sack of excrement, is this man.
JJ, both of your examples would piss off our “conservatives.” See NV’s Platform, planks 11 & 15.

Gary, I didn’t get to read your post until tonight, and my jaw has dropped. I have been a member of HRC for years, and I already gave them an earful when the called me recently for more Congressional funds. I will definitely call tomorrow and let them know that if they do not rescind their endorsement I will rescind my support. This guy is a complete nutjob. Each time I think my opinion of Obama cannot go lower, it does. He stands for NOTHING, except his own self-aggrandizement.
BTW: What does Donna B have to say about her “deviant” lifestyle?
Honora – you are correct. I don’t need those things under the bus. Unfortunately, since I won’t have health insurance to go to the doctor to get that prescription nor the funds to pay for it – get ready, I’m really loud and obnoxious when I am this stressed out.
I suggest someone deliver it or suffer the consequences.
Gary, I hope the voters side with the Supreme Court. This is getting beyond ridiculous. I keep hearing Rome fell because they accepted “sin.” How stupid are people. Simply put, Rome fell because they were stretched too thin with their conquer and divide BS.
Carol, what good does insurance do? I have the best in our state supposedly and I’m staring right now at a bill for $3,684 (and I thought my deductible maxed out at $2,000). This is on top of the $600/month I pay for the insurance!
OUCH. Obama is an enemy of women and GLBT.
Kmiec is also virulently anti-choice and has views on women and civil liberties that make Sam Alito look like a dirty long-haired hippie.
And don’t forget Cass Sunstein, who thinks Roe should be overturned and thinks Dubya’s “unitary executive” theory is just dandy.
These two schmoes have been floated as possible SCOTUS picks if Obama wins. Next time a ‘bot floats the SCOTUS! ROE! BE SKEERED!!! meme at you, toss these two names back at’im.
I no longer donate to HRC, since they endorsed Nobama. I have asked them to stop sending me mail and calling.
