Where in the World Wide Web is Joe Biden?

Where is WaldoJoe Biden?

I guess the barely post-pubescent techno-matic Obamazoids aren’t the only ones crawling around the Web these days.  Seems that the Republicans have a Net celebrity of their own.  Since the beginning of this campaign about 75 years ago, we’ve been told that Obama owns the Internet, hands down.  I suppose that’s because anyone who doesn’t support The big O is a stupid racist redneck who thinks that HTML stands for Hunt The Moose Ladies!!

Whoa!! not so fast there you little whippersnappers.  Looks like somebody has shattered the silicon ceiling:

Where’s Joe?

That may be what the Obama-Biden campaign is wondering, based at least on the lack of Web interest in the Democratic vice presidential candidate.

Online searches indicate that Republican vice presidential hopeful Sarah Palin overwhelming has captured the attention of Web users, placing her No. 1 on the list of mostly widely used political search terms.

Joe Biden? He didn’t break the top 10.

Granted, Obama is still a celebrity online, but it looks like he may be downgraded to the B-list, despite what Barbra has to say about it.  And honestly, has she done anything really worthwhile since Funny Girl?  OK, I take it back, Barbra IS a diva, but I thought Celine sang for the Titanic, not Barbra.  And it looks like he’s losing his celebrity at Palin’s expense

Hitwise.com also reports that in the four weeks ending Sept. 6, the Saturday after the Republican National Convention, Palin earned 2.01 percent of all political searches. At that time, Palin had been in the national headlines for only eight days.

The second highest search term was “Barack Obama,” with 1.93 percent of political searches.

After his grueling 18 months preparing to be President, he gets taken down in 8 days, by a GIRL!!! That’s gotta hurt.  Take a look at this graph from hitwise.com showing the ranking of the two campaign websites.  Looks like Mr. Netroots has some competition!

  1. Joe Biden seems to be “the lost child” in this election.

  2. HTML = Hunt The Moose Ladies — that one earned a full out laugh — thanks Gary.

  3. He’s busy trying to secure a nice location for when he’s thrown under the bus, which is hard work because it is crowded down there.

  4. Lost in obama maze garden….

  5. Why the hell trash Biden, a real Democrat? This kneejerk stuff is really pissing me off.

I can’t stand Obama, and he’s the problem, not Biden. I hate to tell you, but Hillary Clinton on the ticket wouldn’t have done squat for the Democrats.

The electoral map simply isn’t there for Obama.

  6. I beg to differ with you susan. Biden is in my opinion, a slap in the face to Hillary supporters, and women in general. Do you remember the Anita Hill hearings? give me a break.

  7. and if he can’t take a little snark, he’s definitely not prepared to be “a heartbeat away” from the presidency :)

  8. Biden is also a darling of Wall Street. He is the one that championed the bankruptcy bill on the Dem side. This bill was designed inside and out for the credit card industry. Biden is from Delaware which is corporation central in the US, and they are his most cherished constituents. Biden does not represent the people.

  9. Love it! Did you see his comments about loss of celebrity on Letterman? he really hurts!
Obama: “Well, I – look, there’s no doubt that she’s been a phenomenon. I mean, you know, as somebody who used to be on the cover of Time and Newsweek, you know.” (audience, Dave laugh)

Dave (laughs): “Those were the days.” (audience applauds)

Obama: “Those were the days. I had a recent offer with Popular Mechanics.” (audience laughs)

Dave: “Take it, take it.” (audience laughs)

Obama: “Said they had a centerfold, yeah, with a wrench, you know.” (audience, Obama laugh)
    http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/09/11/obama-letterman-pigs/

  10. Biden has become irrelevant. He has been eclipsed by two celebs, Obama and Palin. McCain is riding the Palin horse while Obama is struggling to stay ahead.

Just another day in this never ending, totallly boring, ridiculous campaign. There is about as much drama and interest here as in another C-Span committee meeting. In other words, none.

The finish cannot come soon enough and I predict that whoever gets in fails. Just my thinking due to the issues that await the winner. Hillary offered us a chance. These two, not so much.

  11. susan, do you remember this?
    http://edgeoforever.wordpress.com/2008/08/24/biden-and-anita-hill/
Biden:There is absolutely not one shred of evidence to suggest that Professor Hill is fantasizing, not one shred of evidence to suggest that Professor Hill isn’t and has not been in total control of all her faculties. There is no shred of evidence for the garbage that I hear — not on this floor — but I’ve heard in the newscast floating around that somehow she really is telling — that she thinks she’s telling the truth. The only answer we can come up with is she must be fantasizing. I’ve even heard it suggested that psychiatrists — one of our colleagues has said something to the effect, in holding the paper saying: Psychiatrists have a name for it. I can’t think of the name for it. But — but it happens. It’s not unusual. An otherwise truthful woman believing that she’s still being truthful engages in conduct of fantasy, and it has a — psychiatrists call it something.

  12. Have to say that Biden campaigned actively to be BZero’s VP. That smacks of opportunism to me — signing on to the hopey/changey message after the hijacking of the party isn’t what a good democrat would do.

  13. edge, I remember that, but reading his words again really makes me angry all over again. I remember watching the tv and wondering how Dems could be so sexist. Seems like nothing as changed in almost 20 years.

  14. The polls are trending back in Obama’s favor. Maps at Rasmussen have Obama winning. McCains lost 2 points already. By all accounts this race is close. I don’t think we should be celebrating yet. In fact, all this “Obama has lost” stuff could backfire. The Dems and Media are doing a big number on Palin. Maybe the R won’t falll for it, but McCain won’t win with R votes. He needs D because there are fewer R than D.
McCain has to do better with his economic message.

  15. I remember thinking at the time, What would Anita Hill possibly have to gain by coming forward like she did? I still can’t imagine. I believed her then, and I believe her now. I also believe Biden is an Ass.

  16. Prolix: signing on to the hopey/changey message after the hijacking of the party isn’t what a good democrat would do.”

Yet all of those guys knew Hill was the one but they were dancing around do the “Pick me, pick me samba”

  17. NH, who is celebrating? Seems like everyone is biting their nails.

  18. When I read Obama’s dialogue with Letterman, I can’t help but think, Bless his heart. If they had exercised better judgment, with Hillary at the top, Obama in second place, we’d have had it for eight years and maybe even 16 with Obama running after Hillary, But now, he will only have been a contender, an also ran.

  19. Sexism is alive and well even 20 yrs later. It is acceptable to make fun of a woman because she shoots a gun, has 5 kids, wears her hair in a certain way. Or how about the one who they made fun of her laugh, her ankles, her voice, her tears. No boundaries there.

But try to make fun of the pillars, the fake presidential seals, the “fact finding” tour of Europe, the fainting crowds, The One, the Messiah magazine covers, the dubious ties to crooks, and they will take your head off as a display of “disrespect”.

The worst are the women who sign up to defend these outrages. They may have made a difference. They just look pretty stupid now.

  20. Mawm: “After his grueling 18 months preparing to be President, he gets taken down in 8 days, by a GIRL!!! That’s gotta hurt. ”

The phrase “taken down” denotes permanence and in previous posts this is the impression that is being stated.

  21. Is anyone else really glad Pat is back?

  22. An Obama win would be worse than a McCain victory. I completely disagree with everything McCain/Palin and their stands on the issues but Obama I fear more. There is something sinister there and I can’t quite put my finger on it.
All I know is that he is capable of lying, cheating, and stealing which means he will do the same in office.

Better the lesser of two evils than the all time champ.

  23. didn’t biden also just say that those of us who oppose obama, do so because we’re not used to being around “smart people”?

  24. Yet Pat am I remembering correctly that you will not vote for Mccain but have chosen N.O.T?

  25. And just for the record: they sought out Anita Hill, she did not come willingly. She had nothing to gain and a lot to lose with this testimony. More so with her own standing in the black community. That stood out for me.

  26. NH, I think its pretty clear that I meant that he was knocked from the #1 spot of web searches. Anyway if it wasn’t, that’s what I meant.

  27. Pat, there is something there, but for me it isn’t evil, but a nonchalance. I think he just wants to be relevant and make history. When and if, he gets there, he will not have a clue what he is supposed to do.

  28. NH: I went on the record that I would never vote Obama and the only way I vote McCain is if the polls are close in my state of MA. If Obama is way ahead, then I do not vote the top. If the margin is close, I will vote McCain.

I honestly hope I do not have to since I have never voted Repub in my life. But this is how much I fear an Obama win.

The economic disaster that the Bushist’s have gestated can’t be stopped. The attempts to keep the balloon inflated and govt bailouts only delay and worsen the finall out come. Whoever is elected will be the Herbert Hoover of the 21st century…2012 is when the new “FDR” get to begin to pick up the pieces. The way things look now, I am glad that Hillary didn’t get the nom. she deserves a better place in history than the next President will get.

  30. I remember being on a road trip and listening to those hearings. I WAS LIVID at the way they treated Anita Hill. Biden included! You are right…just another reason not to vote for the Dems.

  31. Kim–I agree with your description, and it reminds me a lot of GWB. that’s why I can’t stomach it.

  32. And again for the record, I cannot stand any one of the four currently running. And it is not all because of Hillary. Neither ticket offers anything of substance no matter how close we tend to parse it in our own minds. These four just do not do it for me at all. But this is just my opinion.

  33. “OK, I take it back, Barbra IS a diva, but I thought Celine sang for the Titanic, not Barbra.”

    Hee.

And a “real Democrat” ought not be owned by credit card companies.

  34. Anita Hill was subpoenaed to come. It was not her choice – and she had nothing to gain obviously. David Brock who wrote a book on her and led her persecution – has since apoligized – wrote in his book that she was definitely right. Clarence Thomas did perjure himself – it was well known about his pornography in the conservative circles. Probably by Biden too.

Obama is not rowing with all of his “oars” in the water. I am not sure what his psychiatric diagnosis is but it isn’t good for the country. Bush lies, knows he is lying and it is his smirking FU to the world. Obama believes the constantly evolving fiction that is his life story and that is scary as sh*t.

  36. Biden is trying to turn around his “stand up Chuck” (the guy in a wheelchair), into a campaign pick. HA!!!!
I went to Hillary’s site & they let through some “unity” posts saying, how upset with the palin pick they are & now they will vote for Obama. Ugh….!
One was a “PatFlorida” I recognized that name & I got sad.
    I’m currently a N.O.T.; but I respect McCain & also Palin.

  37. Okay, back to the couch with Breakfast at Tiffany’s in hand.

  38. Gary, the “smart people” remark will work to a certain point. I have met so many people who follow along with crap statements like that. They vote a certain way to be included into that particular demographic. I have even had a few “former” friends state to me that ignorant hillbillies and r@cists are voting for Hillary, the smart, upper middle income people are going with Obama, so how could I possibly not vote for Obi? It’s like the people standing around the water cooler talking about a tv show they do not like, but watch it anyway, so they can hang with the kool kids.

  39. Pat, I’m with ya.

I will vote McCain if Virginia is close. Although with all the hateful and sexist spew being thrown, first at Hillary and now at Palin, I’m starting to feel pretty good about voting the McCain/Palin ticket.

But I’ll keep sending money to McKinney. :)

  40. NH,

Just looked at the Rasmussen daily tracking poll. Seems to be unchanged from yesterday with McCain at 48%, O at 47%. Seems to be the same dead heat that it’s been for weeks, at least now that the convention bounces have dribbled out. Only difference is that McCain now appears to be a little on top, though it is a dead heat.

  41. Pat, wish I could watch it with you.

  42. I have to say that one of the lawyers I work with, who is an Obamabot, actually stood up for Palin when the other women in the office were trashing her. She said that the implication that she can’t handle the job because of her children is BS (this woman is in her 30′s with 3 young kids) . The other women backed down. I have a feeling a lot of “women for Obama” might do something crazy when they get alone in that voting booth. Mawm said yesterday, they’ll call it the bradley effect, but it could be the “palin effect” women who claim to obamans, but secretly vote for the woman….we’ll see.

  43. FL will be close. Therefore, after 42 years of voting reliably democratic, I’m in for McCain.

  44. I have a real fear that if I don’t vote for anybody, the obama campaign will vote “for me”.

  45. Sorry Gary, but “The Way We Were” and “What’s Up Doc” – are 2 of the best.

Now, I wouldn’t give her the time of day.

Sarah’s excitement takes them all down a peg.

    Hillary or McCain 2009

    CAROL HAKA

  46. It had that effect on me. I had just gone to an Edwards event, walked into the booth and saw a woman’s name and voted for her. Of course, it was Hillary, the best candidate we had.

  47. Kim: “When and if, he gets there, he will not have a clue what he is supposed to do.”
Indeed and that is the scariest part of all – look at what chucklenuts did in the last 7 years – you can’t put dumb people in serious roles – they hurt others.

And yes I too am glad that Pat is back – I missed your keen observations and occasional snarks.

  48. Carol, I am southern, so I preferred her in Prince of TIdes.

  49. Last night I watched Jeopardy and House. Between the two shows I saw six Obama commercials. I felt that six commercials (all negative against McCain, not what Obama could do for me) in an hour and a half was overkill. BTW at the end of the ads was a picture of Obama and Biden together (So even though Joe is hiding out, at least he can be seen – but not heard – in ads) At what point are repetitive ads oversaturation of a market? And can oversaturation cause people not to vote for Obama?

  50. Has it ever been determined if Obama really has paid bloggers? It seems I have my very own Obamabot assigned to my blog.

    Mountain Sage

  51. He doesn’t know what to do now, he hedges, flip flops and is totally lost without his teleprompter. That is not change, that is scary as hell

  52. isn’t obama on the “Teleprompter ’08 Tour” as we speak? I heard he’s taking it with him to campaign rallies. that’s just sad.

  53. Mountain Sage, I have a blog, but no one reads it and I rarely ever post new threads because the writers here are so much better that I could ever hope to be, but even I have trolls now.

  54. I’m not happy Pat is back. She is depressing Piper, Trig and Eddy.

By the way, Piper and Trig said “don’t talk about my mommy like that. You don’t know her.”

    I’m just saying……………………….

  55. Wasn’t there a picture of him at a rodeo with it?

    *********
I think the Palin effect will be significant and far exceed any “Bradly effect”.
I thought that Hillary would be under polled in a National election for similar reasons; in her case by women in over-bearing wing-nut environments pulling the lever for Hill and saying that they voted Repub.

  57. Carol your family is certainly growing.

  58. I went to see “Prince of Tides” with my mother on Christmas Day. Not good subject matter to see with your Mother on Christmas Day.

Great Cinematography and Music. I loved Blondie, but very depressing.

Even the “in the tank” media made fum at the “O” for having two teleprompters at a rodeo. An apparently he still “F” it up.

  60. garychapelhill, on September 17th, 2008 at 1:03 pm

It blows my mind that Dems are saying a woman can’t be a good Mom while having a job??…..

    WTF????

glad that lawyer slapped that BS down

  61. Please focus on individual states when making pronouncements about “who’s winning”. Remember, it’s the Electoral College that matters in the end; keep hammering away against obama and mccain/palin will prevail; obviously, the msm will not assist in the effort to save america from The Big Zero.

  62. My concern about the shift in polls is that all the negatives they have been throwing out there seem to be working. McCain really cna’t win on the issues. why aren’t they continuing to go after BO. His relationship with Abunimah is explosive. How come no one is talking about this?

  63. This is off-topic, but another disturbing sign of the times. I work in the office of a nice apartment complex in suburban NJ. The electric company just turned off power to several apartments for non-payment and they had about 60 more shut-offs to do in town. I just feel so bad about this, I had to tell somebody.

  64. angry artist:

What “shift in the polls” are you referring to?

  65. nene – sorry to hear that. There are places that will assist people with their utility bills.

  66. Snippets of Hannity’s interview with Sarah on Fox in 2 minutes.

  67. nene, that is disturbing.

  68. Carolyn Mann, I talking about the electoral map at realclearpolitics which has flipped in Obama’s favor.

  69. nene – my husband worked for a utility and said they can only turn off the power in the warm months for non-payment. NJ has a law that prohibits turning it off during the winter.

  70. Gallop now shows BO up by 2 points

  71. Rasmussen still has McCain ahead by one point; again, look to the indiviudal states because the pollsters have a vested interest in (and can more easily manipulate) the national polls; if the difference is within the margin of error, it’s a dead heat; you must stay focused! The main stream media is completely in the tank for Obama so the real work has to be done by the ‘ground troops’ (this means you and me)!

  72. Gary – this is hilarious!

Are we really surprised that the Internets are not buzzing about a guy who’s been in the Senate for 36 years?

PJ – I’m with you. Sorry guys, I can’t get excited about McCain’s win, which I do see as inevitable. I am just “hoping” that Obama’s loss doesn’t destroy the Congressional strength we will need to stop McCain/Palin from doing any further damage.

  73. What about O’s realationship with Abunimah and his alledged fundraising for Palestinian groups linked to terrorism? Why isn’t anyone talking about this?
Do you think they are waiting for October?

  74. Turn on fox news.
I think one of the pumas got loose during Ike.
The story is coming up after the commercial.

    COUNTRY BEFORE PARTY ALWAYS

  75. nene, on September 17th, 2008 at 1:25 pm

Thank you for posting this….one of the greatest things about a blog like this is people connecting and
sharing such on the ground experiences.

  76. SOD and angry artist-I, too, have been wondering where the hard-hitting ads are from the Republicans. Months ago, we heard they had so much material and were just waiting until NObama was the “official” nominee. It’s been a few weeks and nothing has come out, at least, no earth-shaking ads. I’m ready for them. This waiting is so anxiety producing!

  77. okay, I know they’re two different characters but the “Where’s Waldo” graphic now has me humming the Carmen Sandiego theme in my head!

I’m somewhere between Pat and Kim. But Obama mostly scares the crap outta me.

  78. Angry artist—I guess they are waiting until Oct., although I think there is enough ‘junk’ on him to fill every week from now ’till doomsday. they (McCain and Palin) do seem nonplussed. Wonder why?

  79. Why is Obama speaking to foreign leaders and announcing what US policy should be followed? Last time I checked he was only a senator. Did he skip the election and swore himself in as President already? Is Obama pushing his foreign policy agenda before being elected interfering with current US policy? I don’t like the direction this is going, and why does he get away with this?

  80. angry artist, on September 17th, 2008 at 1:40 pm Said:

I’m guessing the Republican strategy is to hit hard and hit late. Similar to the Palin pick which they kept well hidden till the last minute. A late hit won’t give Camp Obama time for a counter attack. At least I hope that’s what’s going on.

  82. Remember what Tina Fey said – she’s telling everyone’s she’ll vote for Obama, but once in the booth she just might pull the lever for McCain. Of course, this was *before* Palin. Who knows how Palin’s appearance on the scene might have affected Fey’s position on this.

  83. Bush 2 and the war were sold by the GOP and press working together. It would be one thing if we just saw no GOP guns out there….but we are seeing anti McCain/ Palin press alive and well , going bombs away. I have been told for months the press would turn after the convention. But I think the press and its owners want Barry.

    He’s Bush 5.8…while Mccain is Goldwater 2008.

    I hope I’m wrong

  84. Just a thought :
Most of the MSM is now owned by international corps.
They really have no interest in only America.
Look how many jobs have left this country in the past several years.
There are very few if any small owner newspapers anymore.
The news is managed not reported.
Someone mentioned starting a blog newpaper run by various bloggers to report news not just spout opinions.
    This is a great idea.
    Can it be done?

    COUNTRY BEFORE PARTY ALWAYS

    PUMAS,BUBBAS, AND THOSE PEOPLE RULE

  85. I gave Biden a web hit trying to find out his age. It’s a well-kept secret on his official sites but I did find his birthday on one of those star chart sites-He’ll be 66 on November 20th. Not much younger than Mac.

  86. NH,

Thanks for pointing me to the realclearpolitics map. I’ll sneak a peak there before I have to run off to work.

On another subject: The Republican strategy is usually to destroy the opposition in August to grab a lead and then hit them with an October surprise to seal the deal. Hopefully, they’ve got that October surprise in the tank cause I’m starting to get worried.

  87. Well, it’s done. Lady DeRothchild, member of the DNC platform committee and former Hillraiser, has endorsed McCain.

  88. SOD – I absolutely agree with you.

Mac is not wasting time or money on inefficient tactics. He has so far been excellent at using Obama’s own weaknesses to destroy him. He used Obama’s hubris to mock him, and now has used Obama’s sexism to turn millions of women from Obama to McCain.

Remember, the “Wolves” ad that supposedly flipped the election to Bush in 2004 was not put out until a couple of days before the election. We’ve got a month and a half to go yet.

  89. The problem with waiting is that once people come to a decision or opinion, I believe it becomes more difficult to change that opinion.

and to Helen….I agree. We need a real press that reports independently. We do not have that in this country.

What I have come to appreciate about Fox…which I NEVER watched before …..is that they openly claim to be conservative so viewers are well aware of their bias. CNN pretends to be objective…that is dangerous.

  90. SHV 12:56
I agree. and that’s the whole enchilada (god I spell like crap) for me. Sure he was HIllary’s inferior
on policy, knowledge, experience, judgement, intelligence, candor, humor, ability, compassion,
“realness”. Sure he’s inarticulte, snotty, foolish, a liar,
an opportunist, a snake-oil salesman, a clown, a blowhard. Sure he can’t be trusted because he changes his tune to fit the crowd in a horrifically huge way, lies on issues vital to economic, security, and international relations.

But beyond all those little things (ha!). The one reason I will vote him down is because there is something seriously wrong inside that guy. There is a soul sickness or something. It is a fatal flaw in his personality. It feels like the petrie dish in which true evil grows. Hitler, Stalin. He has a tyrant’s disposition.

    So it’s mccain for me.

  91. Helen – That is a great idea! What blogosphere 1.0 was supposed to be, before it drowned under the weight of its own misogyny and elitism.

  92. There is a simple reason BO is getting back a bit of a lead, the economy and Ike. Both incidents leave a bad taste in the mouth of the electorate where repubs are concerned. I think it’s statistical noise.

  93. madamab, I’m going to borrow SOD’s tinfoil hat, and wonder aloud if the GOP didn’t play dead in 06 so that this election couldn’t TOTALLY be a referendum on the reuplican meltdown/failure of the last 8 years. could they really be that diabolical???

  94. does anyone else want to punch celebs who endorse candidates? I know there’s always a sort of pass when they endorse the ones you like :-) , but it still annoys me, mostly because I don’t feel like having my own enjoyment of their work potentially screwed with.

Crap like this is why I do everything in my power to ignore the personal lives of anyone whose public work I enjoy. Sing, act, dance — then STFU, okay? Or accept the fact that, if you should piss off a huge segment of your audience and it hits you in your wallet and Google rank, then you’ve got no one to blame but yourself.

They always play this, “Well, why can’t I talk about who I want to win?” garbage, and I’m always like, “NO ONE should talk about politics when they’re working, jackass. And when the cameras on you, you’re at work, so STFU.”

  95. No, gary, 2006 is what you call a wave election. Happens very rarely. I think the last one was ’94.

  96. masslib – I agree. Ike reminds everyone of Katrina, which was the first time the press stopped worshiping at Bush’s feet and actually, briefly, reported something close to the truth about how bad his administration was at governing.

And of course, the Republicans are the ones who are always pushing deregulation and the “free market” – at least, until the Obamacratic wing of the Party took over.

  97. I certainly agree there is a genius on the McCain team .
They have made one helluva lot of lemonade from lemons . This was the guy carrying his own luggage
a short time ago He’s saddled with 8 years of Bush and look where he is? Pretty amazing

  98. Gary – Gotta agree with masslib there. Remember, KKKarl really thought the Republicans were going to win in 2006. He had “The Math.”

  99. masslib, what is a “wave” election?

  100. Gary, it’s when the electorate gets so fed up with the Party in power they will vote for ham sandwich in order to get them out.

  101. SOD-What you’ve said makes sense and encourages me. But, waiting too long worries me as people in many states begin to vote very early. Surely, the Republicans have taken this into account.

    Hillary 2012

  102. Gary-On the East Coast, it’s called the Wilder Effect when people tell the pollsters they are voting for the black candidate and then don’t on Election Day. Doug Wilder was up by 15 pts. and then won in a squeaker for VA Governor in 1989. That could be a problem for O here in VA because apparently we have no problem with lying to pollsters. Could be the same in NC.

  103. ah, gotcha. thanks.

  104. madamab, on September 17th, 2008 at 2:18 pm Said:
Gary – Gotta agree with masslib there. Remember, KKKarl really thought the Republicans were going to win in 2006. He had “The Math.”

Oh no, I think Karl is too smart for that. I think he knew they would lose but he also knew if you concede that, your voters will stay home. So, he says, yeah, we got this one. Enough voters come out to stop a tsunami, which they did. I think Rove knows a wave when he sees it.

  105. joan, I think mccain is up by about 20 now in NC. I lived about half my life in VA, and I have a very hard time believing it is so close there. I taught school in prince william co. and a lot of those NOVA suburbs are bright red.

  106. Angela, there is something wrong and I don’t see how anyone with a brain can not see it. Lets face it, the facts are there. He was born bi-r@cial in a time that it was not widely accepted, his father deserted him at an early age and later so did his mother. He was raised white, when he is by most, considered to be black. He leaves home and discovers, yep, most do consider him to be a black man and it would appear he has totally let go of his former WASP origins. He wasn’t there when his mother died-odd, granny is very sick and she is alone in Hawaii-odd again. He writes a book about the father he didn’t even know. It appears he has no history or friends. Does anybody see that he could have some serious issues?

And all the MSM cares about is whether or not Sarah Palin can work and take care of her children.

Jesus, release me from this fog of disbelief.

  107. Joan, he’s already losing in NC and I think VA. But Wilder was along time ago. I don’t think race has done anything but help Obama in this election, not to say that it couldn’t still hurt him, but I don’t think it has thus far. It’s really not the 1980′s anymore. They kept warning about the “wilder effect” in MA and Deval Patrick won by more than the pollster predicted.

  108. RealKim, I did not know that about Obama not being there for mother’s death or grandma’s illness.
Confirms more that I think he is on “disconnect”.
He’s disconnected and he’s calculating. I can’t think of two more terrifying qualities to have in someone running for POTUS.

  109. check out this map of VA from ’04. Only one county in NOVA went for Kerry. Can it really have changed that much in 4 years?

    http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2004/pages/results/states/VA/P/00/index.html

  110. Angela, his mom died of ovarian cancer and he was not by her side. Granny, who is under the bus with us, cannot get out because she has severe osteoporosis.

  111. I remember them talking about VA being a swing state in 04 too. remember they didn’t call it for the longest time. I always thought that was weird, and on purpose.

  112. kim, is grandfather still alive?

  113. Dr. Long just knocked it outa the park on Fox Radio!

    You go grrl!

she hit every PUMA talking point and hit it spot on!

  114. SoD, ITA. And I can’t help but be impressed with the strategic excellence the McCain camp has shown.

I also think a huge part of Camp Obama’s strategic woe is that they have seriously underestimated the intelligence of the average voter. Oh, and they cheat like heck. That worked in caucuses but it will be much harder to pull off at the ballot box.

masslib, I saw a little blurb this morning and was wondering why the DeRothchild endorsement is not a top story. Certainly it beats tanning bed “news”?

  115. If this blog newspaper were to be started it should be like the newspapers of yesterday where news is news and the opinion pages should have both sides.
People have brains and can use them given enough information.

    COUNTRY BEFORE PARTY ALWAYS

    PUMAS,BUBBAS, AND THOSE PEOPLE RULE

  116. RealKim,
quite the devoted son/grandson. Surely the Repubs came make a little hay out of this.

Since everyone is having so much fun beating the hell out of women for not having sufficient “family performance”, I think it’s reasonable to note that when Obama’s family has been in the deepest kind of crisis, he’s been AWOL.

  117. Obama is so inept as a campaigner, I can’t imagine what the heck he would do as President. He actually has no economic message. What the f*ck kind of Democrat runs without an economic meassage in a year like this, let alone a normal year? If it were not for Bill Clinton, he’d be losing by double digits. The only reason the Dem’s have a brand on the economy is BC. I think, should Obama win, the country is going to find out the hard way, that economic brand may not be easily transferable.

  118. Speaking of not knowing what to do:

Reid Says Congress Won’t Act Because “No One Knows What to Do.”

Sept. 17 (Bloomberg) — Congress is unlikely to pass new legislation to overhaul financial regulations this year “because no one knows what to do,” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid told reporters today.

“We are in new territory, this is a different game,” Reid said at a briefing in Washington. Neither Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke nor Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson “know what to do but they are trying to come up with ideas,” Reid said.

    Link to Bloomberg.com article:
    http://tinyurl.com/5e82rp

  119. No Gary I think Gramps is dead.

  120. Actually, REPUBS, REPUBS,REPUBS how about an ad where you contrast McCain’s service record with Obama being AWOL in the state senate, senate and
    for his family?

One of the most effective spots in Palins convention speech was where she noted that only one of the men in this election has fought for his country.

In more ways than one, repubs. in more ways than one. Show how McCain showed up in the senate and voted, show how he adopted a child who needed serious and loving care.

  121. Just got a phone call from a DNC fundraiser. I gave him an earful. Then I told him I would vote dem down ticket, but they would not get one cent from me. I thought it would be fun to unload like that, but I just have a hollow feeling because this should have/could have been a good year for us.

  122. does anyone else want to punch celebs who endorse candidates?

    Oh God ! Yes !!!!!

The list of celebs who I am boycotting is getting longer each day:
    Clooney, Sarandon, Winfrey,Damon, Lohan ,Anderson…

  123. Gary, when he was in Hawaii just recently, he visited his grandmother, but I remember reading somewhere that Michelle did not go with him, nor did he take the children to see his/their grandmother. Am I right on this?

  124. New Ads out

Move America Forward PAC has Obama Interferes in Iraq, my title.

  125. RealKim–You are correct about the kids not visiting their great grandmother on O’s trip, even though he claimed that having the kids see her was one of the reasons for the trip. Right, Barry.

  126. John McCain’s new ad on the economy

Interesting. I really like the music from these ads. I wonder who composes for them.

  127. That’s fricken weird. Are we sure they never saw their grandmother the entire visit? Because if they didn’t, that’s really weird.

  128. sod: I’d better levitate myself back to work.

  129. I think visiting her was a photo op and no, the kids were not with him and the press said Michelle and the kids were not with him.

  130. Don’t EVER give those people your information. They do that stuff specifically so they can have access to you. Costing them money is not worth being spammed all the time,

  131. masslib–She’s actually great grandmother to O’s children, but, yes, not seeing her means one of two things to me:

    1) She has Alzheimers or some other issue that would make a visit by children pointless, or

    2) Obama wanted to make sure that his children wouldn’t “talk out of school” and reveal something he doesn’t want revealed.

    Just a guess.

  132. Joan,

I was born in DC and raised in VA. I’ve lived here my entire life and not once has my state gone for my presidential pick. VA has gone red since, IIRC, Johnson.

I voted for Doug Wilder. I will not vote for Obama. And I have no problem telling that to any pollster. As a matter of fact, I wish a pollster would call me so I could give ‘em an earful!

But you do make a good point. I don’t broadcast that I am anti-Obama, mainly because his supporters are such zealots that I’m afraid of how they’d react. Seriously, they can be downright scary.

My daughter, who lives in Florida, wanted to post the “lipstick on a pig” image on her facebook page but didn’t because she was afraid of attracting harassment. So I think a large part of the “quiet” Obama-nots is that Camp Obama has made it clear that our free expression will be aggressively attacked… and in a very ugly way. Who needs that?

That’s why I’m here every day. This board is a haven for those of us who see Obama for who he truly is and don’t base our opinion on the color of his skin.

  133. The story is she has severe osteoporosis, that is directly from the O camp.

  134. The Dems are about to put out there own Swift boating ad against McCain. Enjoy

Ah, yes, now that ‘s desperation I can believe in.

  135. or grays, here’s one, Michelle doesn’t like her and doesn’t want the kids near her. That seems most likely. If she had dimentia, why not just say so?

  136. Boy SOD,
that was just downright “folksy” from the fun people at moveon (pissoff).
golly gosh, gee wilikers, oh boy, oh heck let’s just hop on those phones.
    LOL

  137. Pat,

I’m with you. I fear Obama more than McCain.

However, think about this. Does anyone believe that McCain would choose a woman who is willing to blow the whistle on her own party, if he weren’t willing to follow through with his reform agenda?

His choice of Palin was a his way of confirming that he is still indeed “the maverick” and, like Palin, is willing to reach across party lines and was telling the truth when he said he would will fill his administration with the best and the brightest, whether they be dems or independents to help him solve the major problems facing our country today.

By choosing Palin, he proved to me that he was serious about change. When obama chose Biden, it confirmed to me that he’s simply not qualified to be CIC and his candidacy has nothing to do with change.

  138. But, really, to be clear, I am not sure the press actually told us they never saw her. So this is just speculation.

  139. They did a phone interview with her several months ago. She’s apparently lucid but won’t consent to an interview.

  140. masslib–Your thoughts on Michelle are probably correct. I half wonder if M doesn’t want her kids to be exposed to their “white heritage”. I’ve always had the impression that, under the surface, both Barack and Michelle are seething with rage about their blackness.

  141. Regency, that POW swiftboating ad is going to be beloved by the bots (whose votes O has anyway) and be viewed with disgust by most swing voters and Indies.

  142. SOD: That’s why I’m on Obie’s list. It’s mostly irritating now though. They go right to spam everytime.

  143. I’m thinking Obama doesn’t give a parsec about his grandma or his kids feelings about her.

But is this Hawaii visit you are talking about the one that kind of strangely, oddly, coincidentally came on the heels of the broohaha over his “can we see it, can we see it, oh please can we see it” birth certificate?

And what is happening with the Berg lawsuit anyway?

  144. Regency, on September 17th, 2008 at 2:37 pm Said:
……Reid Says Congress Won’t Act Because “No One Knows What to Do.”

    Well shit! Hillary does!!!
Can we have her back now??!!

  145. Paper doll: That was my first thought, too. She knows. Ask her! Harry, give up your job and let her have it. At least let her have Dumbo’s!

  146. Exactly, Granny is fine mentally, but has osteo. The kids and Michelle did not go, only O went and he stayed about thirty minutes.

  147. Mark-My grandchildren are bi-racial and it is something you have to deal with. So go fuck yourself.

  148. If they don’t do anything for 20 years of adulthood before suddenly deciding to run. Sure they’re forever unfit to be President. God knows I won’t be voting for them.

  149. It’s just now hitting me that Olbermann and Matthews were fired from political coverage after their over-the-top coverage of Obama’s acceptance gala, but why in the heck weren’t they fired long before???? They could not have slobbered over the guy any more when Hillary was running.

It took Republicans to get them fired. If Obama wins the electoral college and McCain wins the popular vote, that would be one way to get rid of the electoral college. Republicans roar and the press listens. For that matter, Republicans roar (drilling) and Obama and the Democrats listen.

I hope PUMAs voice is heard in this election.

  150. Mark: Yep. And we’re dealing with that way better than he ever dealt with being black.

  151. You know these trolls that come on here and spout r@cist, really need to do their homework. Most of you know, but Mark doesn’t, that I am half cherokee (want to talk about oppression Mark?), my husband was half-hispanic, two of my grandsons are half-black and the other is half Asian. For me to be racist would be totally and completely fucking absurd. So here is a word for you . . . DUMBASS

  152. You know these trolls that come on here and spout r@cist, really need to do their homework. Even if the fabulous Hillary Clinton wasn’t right under his nose ….I can’t imagine an elected official saying ” Well we aren’t doing anything cause we don’t know what to do.” Am I supposed to buy that BS? This is the guard dog at the hen house( US treasury ) letting the foxes ( Wall St) in to eat chickens because he ” doesn’t know what to do ”

I do! Get me Hillary! Code Blue!

  155. IIRC, Michelle took the girls separately to visit BO’s “Tutu”. Barak went on his own.

As for the Berg lawsuit, something or other is supposed to happen on the 19th of this month. I’ll see if I can find out what it is.

  156. No, we’re talking about his “not doing anything for 20 years” because that’s at least part of what makes him unfit.

His bi-racialness goes more to say that he’ll be as much another white President as he’ll be the first black President. Thus, I could just give a shit.

Okay, no more feeding! Sorrry, guys. Done.

  157. Clean up on aisle three!

  158. Please do not feed the troll.

  159. Paper Doll: The Dems should be hanging out on the Clintons front stoop, real chill like an ask: “So, Bill, about that economic prosperity. How’d you make that happen?”

Learn from History! Sometimes they got it right.

  160. Yeah, I have to say, I don’t think Obama’s issues are about being bi-racial. He was raised in Hawaii, which is notoriously tolerant. I just think he’s an arrogant ass*ole, with no real committment to any group of people or cause other than himself.

  161. mark, I deem you unfit to comment on this blog, :) bye bye!

  162. Oh, come on let’s give them some help down there in DC – let’s all send Harry an email telling him that Hill knows what to do.
What a bunch of goof balls.

  163. gary – our hero!

Okay this is what I found on the Berg case:

    http://www.obamacrimes.com/

  164. over heard at the library. A true story

The young AA staffer had a new bio of Barry for teens and was asking the older AA staff member where to place it? In the special AA section or the general bio section? …the older AA lady looked at
it and said wearily, ” I don’t know what Obama is “

  165. Can Obama really pull it off?

“He has had some moments where he seems unsure of his own voice,” Brazile said, “but I still think he can pull this off.”

    And if he doesn’t?

“If he doesn’t, then Obama didn’t lose,” she said. “The country just wasn’t ready.”

  166. yup, it’s because Hill and Bill can fix it that Hill was shut down. They don’t want it fixed, they want the stealing to continue..

  167. that “swift boat” ad of Obama’s is pretty lame!
WTF is that going to accomplish?

    Is that all they’ve got??
    bwahahaaaa!

  168. He still hasn’t found his voice? Hillary found hers back in New Hampshire. Like always he is behind the curve.

  169. It seems the Obama camp wants to get Biden out on the sympathy tour. I’ve seen upteen interviews by his son and others talking about Biden’s wife and child being killed in an accident. Now, I’m sure that was/is horrible for him. But this is no secret. Why all of the sudden the urge to “tell the story” again? So, a family tragedy is supposed to be what the voters need to know in order to support him and Obama?

Oh…and is it just me…or does that graph look like a penis? I know, I should get my mind out of the gutter. Nuns…they’re so sick, aren’t they?

  170. This probably a bit off topic, but I thought I might share. I had commented on a youtube clip of a young AA voicing his opposition to Obama, noting that it troubled me that it seems that there have been few if any voices in the AA community that have voiced condemnation of Obama and his “church”. Further, I noted that his speaking out gave one reason to hope.

His response: “they are scared to.”

I have no words to describe how troubling that is.

I wonder how many people in the community feel this way?

  171. Mark, on September 17th, 2008 at 3:04 pm Said:

The same Mark, with “manhood”, only some of us apparently don’t realize that is IS something we have to deal with.

BTW, in relation to your use of the term “biracialness”: we are ALL multiracial, genetically – all of us. There is no such thing as a pure white person, or a pure black person, or a pure asian person from a genetic perspective. We all carry a mix of genes. Don’t believe it? Think about your 2 parents, your 4 grandparents, your 8 great grandparents, and so on. Pretty soon you get a number bigger than all the people who ever existed, So some of your ancestors are also some of my ancestors. Horror of horrors – some of Sara Palin’s ancestors are your ancestors! Gulp!!

So race is not entirely a genetic construct – it has a massive social component -how we look where we think we belong. So when you talk about “biracialness”, to which TWO “races” are you referring? You’re not judging this by the color of someone’s skin, or the color of the skin of their parents, are you?

I cannot think of a single contributor to this forum who dislikes BO because of the color of his skin, or his perceived ethnicity. Au contraire, many people here would very much like to see an AA as President. The plain fact is we do not like the lying, cheating person who is currently in the running, and who so cruelly attacked one of the finest politicians of our generation for his egoist ends.

  172. I am only speaking from my own experience. As I stated my grandchildren are bi-racial and their father deserted them. My daughter, a great mother, who is raising them alone and working (imagine that) took them to speak to someone about ssome of these issues. She was told quite bluntly that being bi-racial without the benefit of having their father around could and would cause a disconnect and a feeling of not knowing where they belong. That is and was the only point I was attempting to make. Throw in all the other things that happened in his life and you may have some serious issues.

  173. Thanks for the link on the Berg case Julie. It looks like Obama has until Sept. 24 to answer the complaint.

  174. Whoops! “Mark” didn’t write the italics – I did. I was responding to his notion of biracialness and other things. Sorry! I guess he’s been trashed?

  175. Oh and I have spoken to someone about that anger thing (joking[maybe])

  176. Kim: Your anger is justified. I have an anger prob–er, thing too. No one’s shipped me off to therapy yet, though it is imminent.

It’s Free Republic so take it with necessary grains of salt.

Poll shows McCain, Warner leading races in Virginia (McCain 48%, Obama 39%)
    Virginian-Pilot ^
Posted on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 2:25:06 PM by Chet 99
Republican presidential nominee John McCain has opened a clear lead over Democrat Barack Obama among Virginia voters in the race for the White House, according to a new statewide poll.
The survey, taken last week for the Center for Public Policy at Christopher Newport University, found McCain with the support of 48 percent of state voters, compared with 39 percent for Obama. Just under 13 percent were undecided.
The poll also showed Democrat Mark Warner is maintaining a huge advantage, 54 percent to 30 percent, over Republican Jim Gilmore in the state’s U.S. Senate contest. Warner leads Gilmore among virtually all voter groups, the survey indicates, even claiming the support of nearly one in four Republicans.

If He Can Make It There . . .
McCain shows strength in New York

  177. Also, didn’t Biden say yesterday that if you vote for B0 you get a toaster? isn’t that what…banks used to do?

  178. edgeoforever: Yes, blankets, clock radios, and toasters were the advertising gimmick in my day to ensure you open a bank account. Most were “thirds” in my recollection.

Does anyone else agree that we are all traveling on that “bridge to nowhere” with these candidates? I am trying, I really am, to work up some enthusiasm but it’s just not happening.

By the way, I just finished watching Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Audrey Hepburn was a real star and a nice little actress. Loved it!

  179. I really don’t see Obama as AA. I think he is using his absent AA father to get ahead, and he was shaped more by his mothers family and values. I see him as just another washington politician without a real message.

I see him as a liar, and someone with no conscience or empathy for those around him.

He shows no joy, and seems totally disengaged from the public. When he speaks, it sounds like preaching.

I just don’t really like him, and I don’t identify him as AA. I identify him as an American I would never trust.

  180. I would like for someone to clarify for me exactly what Ms. Brazille means by “the country just wasn’t ready.” Ready for what? An AA president? Or a sexist, syncophantic, fraudulent jerk masquerading as a Democrat?

  181. Obama is and will always be the media darling. I expect Biden to get more attention as they begin to ignore Palin. Obama surrogates have gotten the message… whenever they are asked a question related to Palin… they are to ignore and bash McCain.

A guy on Fox was very angry and condescending (typical for Obama people lately) and said he was sick of discussing Palin and proceeded to go off topic and spout the latest McCain bashing talking points.

As the media adopts Obama’s direction, Palin will be disappeared and Biden will be brought up more. (To me a bad thing as he can’t quit screwing up)

  182. Jennie, there is a reporter in Chicago that laims to know BO very well, who has stated that BO’s manner of speaking has changed over the past few years. HE say that preachiness we hear is new.

  183. outragedinmd, on September 17th, 2008 at 3:50 pm

    lol!

  184. sorry -claims (no spell checker)

  185. Pat-George Peppard is not so bad to look at in the movie either.

  186. outragedinmnd: They mean that “someone” is going to pay for this limp rag and it won’t be him. Us ra*cists and deadenders will surely carry the burden.

To this day, I still cannot find what they see is so impressive about him.

  187. Where in the World is Michelle Obama?

  188. Pat-Its that hopey-changey thing, jeez. (snark)

  189. Kim: He was adorable! Thanks for recommending it. So glad I did not get rid of all my VCR tapes. I have tons in there and this was better than listening to the tripe masquerading as news and entertainment.

  190. Alert! Has anyone been over to Cannonfire? He adds to Rriverdaughter’s and Anglachel’s post today. He nail’s what I feel (along with Riverdaughter and Anglachel) about the Dems and Obama. I now think this party has to rid ourselves of this scurge to get our party back to FDR, and Truman Democrats. I did not leave the Democratic party they left me. That is the understatement of the year!

  191. I don’t know if this has already been discussed, I’m just jumping on, but I heard on the radio that Hillary pulled out of the Iranian protest because “she heard Palin was going to be there…no comment from the Obama campaign.”

What does this mean? She doesn’t want to be photographed with Palin? She doesn’t want to help Obama? It would be too distracting? don’t get it.

  192. I think it’s Barry very lack of qualities that attract his handlers. They want a bowl of mush that folds like cheap suit….an empty one at that . Everything we fear about Barry , they love .

  193. Pat: I loved him in the Carpetbaggers.

  194. Shainzona: She is home taking care of the kids. Probably an attempt to smear Sarah even more. Like, look at what a great mother I am while she is out on the campaign trail.

  195. Kim: Yes, and I have that one too! Need to go dig it out. Boy, you and I are in definite sync today.

  196. fif, I believe that she is not going out of deference to Palin, as she is a candidate running for VP. She knows if she went it would be a circus and the message to the iranian govt would be lost. I think it shows tons of class, although the media will turn it into a snub no doubt. Hillary is just not like that.

  197. fif I think Hill’s afraid if finding herself liking Palin too much! lol!
Maybe it’s the ” Cat fight in NY!!!!” headlines Hill is trying to avoid. The Media shit storm would be 24hrs for days . Lord knows.

  198. We just have good taste and don’t watch that tripe on TV today.

    The Blue Max!

  200. You are exactly right paper doll. The media would go batshit. They still go crazy if Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt are in the same town.

  201. Hey everyone – new post up!!

  202. If interested, Go here (http://www.rallycongress.com/americansentinel/) and send a letter to Congress demanding they investigate Obama’s violation of the Logan Act. The MSM won’t cover it, so the Grassroots will have to do!

  203. I think camp obama told hillary not to attend protest.
nothing to do with Palin. Everything to do with obama’s
inability to take any stand on any issue. He doesn’t want to irritate his rabid crazed “peace-loving” (yeah right) minions; he doesn’t want to aggravate the muslim crowd (i know, he’s not a muslim, he just plays one on the trail when it suits him); he doesn’t want to aggravate the pro-Israel crowd by open-handedly saying that’s why he’s asked HIllary not to attend.

Mr. Ickey, IMHO, is using HIllary for political purposes
    (no, gasp, really?).

Hillary IMHO should deliver him a swift political body blow. good and hard. really hard. hard, hard. And she should do it on the same level the creep works. Just so he can’t really prove it, but it’s really rather obvious.

  204. Shhhhhhhh! Shainzona, if you say her name three times she’ll appear!

    angela – yw

  205. “HTML stands for Hunt The Moose Ladies ”

  208. Well as usual I’m way late to commenting and the conversation has moved to the new topic, but with regard to the discussion of Virginia, which way it may go and why, I wanted to share the Virginia primary analysis I read last month on Real Clear Politics.
    http://www.realclearpolitics.com/horseraceblog/2008/08/swing_state_review_virginia.html

I am in the bluest heart of Fairfax County Whole Foods Nation and our street has lots of O stickers on cars (Priuses) and posters in windows. Though Fairfax is a very diverse county, my nabe often reminds me of the blog Stuff White People Like:

  209. cellocat,

For me it is important to do something when confronted with inappropriate behavior.

Are you going to let them get away with it? If you do, the next woman will have the same problem with them too.If you freeze up, think of the next girl or woman that will have to deal with them, or at least turn and look them in the eye, or say “for shame”. They do know better. Would they want their mother treated that way? Their sister?

Even if they give you a retort or are rude, the next time they will think twice about starting a confrontation with someone.

The first time you remind someone they do know the difference between right and wrong, and they back down or look sheepish, you will start to lose your reserve about setting standards.

Hillary has set us an example in this.

  210. The Logan act–didn’t they try to put that on Pelosi when she visited Syria?

  211. DCMEDIAGIRL AND VIOLET SOCKS FOR FCC CHAIRMAN!

  212. That graph of the two websites looks like a penis.
