You have got to go read the article in the NY Times about MSNBC removing Obamaman and Tweety from election coverage. This was one of my favorite parts.
Some staff members said the tension led to the network’s decision to keep Mr. Olbermann in New York for the Republican convention, after he ran the desk in Denver during the Democratic convention. MSNBC said that he stayed in New York to anchor coverage of Hurricane Gustav. But some workers say there were other reasons — namely, that Mr. Olbermann was concerned about his safety in St. Paul, given the loud crowds at MSNBC’s set in Denver. (emphasis mine)
So for all the Conflucians that remember our reports from the convention, this should look familiar:

Didn’t Dan Abrams once run MSNBC? I have a vague recollection of seeing something to that effect when the announcement was made that his show was being cancelled. He started out at the network as some kind of executive, I think. I guess those were the good days for the network… Well, they did cancel Phil Donahue’s show for criticizing the then-upcoming invasion of Iraq even though it was the highest rated show on the network. Let’s face it, MessNBC is a mess.
Olbermann’s statement in the article is highly illuminating, though. He really does not understand that making the statement that he made as a pundit is what we expect pundits to do. But not journalists… He really doesn’t get it. He doesn’t understand what a journalist’s job is. This explains everything.

DYB I think Abrams was chief of a division that dealt with legal issues. Then they gave him a spot and about 6 months ago they weirdly changed the show to be cartoonish. It had been more serious and sedate before that.
But it does seem that there is a template over there and part of each show has to score newsmakers. They give it different names, but Abrams had a spot that was like LO’s worst persons.

They’ll be casting about looking for someone to redeem them – and Hil may get a really shining chance to say “told you so.”
I mean, for real – who’s going to be DNC Chair after all this? You better believe Bill Clinton will get to weigh in.

So, when the GOP start nailing him in debate, it may actually get covered like Obama is getting nailed in debate. Things will return to normal with the GOP calling the shots.

Just a comment on the polls. All show a good bounce for McCain. Some taking McCain over the 50% number .If and I believe there is, a Bradley effect in these polls, McCain is up big time. It will take some major mistake for him to lose, because Obama’s negatives have been going up and McCain’s down.

Both Williams and Brokaw are distancing themselves from MessNBC, but don’t forget that little moment between WIlliams and NBC reporter Lee Cowan at an Obama rally, when Cowan was telling Williams that his knees were shaking listening to Obama. The two then embraced like brothers at a revival. It’s a bizarre moment; McCain’s campaign included it in their “Media Hearts Obama” video.
I agree that Palin and McCain should refuse to appear on “Meet The Press.” She’s already announced that her first interview will be with…ABC. The network that got a lot of bashing after asking Obama a few questions in a debate and which Obama – to punish them – shut out of hosting any Presidential debates.
AAO: I agree – Republicans are standing up for Palin the way Democrats as a party never did for Clinton. There’s a video of Pat Buchanan going at it with Matthews, accusing him of being a sexist, hating women, etc. Matthews just laughs it off. (Matthews does correctly remind Buchanan that the Republican party spent a lot of time destroying the Clintons, so why is he complaining about Palin. But Matthews has no credibility when it comes to the treatment of the Clintons by third parties.) Anyhow, Buchanan is no way affiliated with the McCain/Palin campaign. In fact, Buchanan’s is not even their surrogate. Buchanan’s animosity towards McCain is not a secret. But here’s a member of the Republican party taking Matthews on for his misogyny. Did any Democrat do this for Hillary? No. Actually, I remember some Republicans coming to Hillary’s defense – including Buchanan on “Hardball,” Lou Dobbs (an Independent, actually) on CNN, and William Kristol in the NY Times! I mean, Buchanan and Kristol defended Hillary. But no member of the Democratic party. Talk about falling down a rabbit hole!
