It is really disgusting to see the Democrats resorting to the same kind of smear campaigns that they have always accused (with reason) the Repuclians of doing. When gossip and name calling replace real journalism, we are in a heap of trouble.
One major problem with the Obama campaign is their constant use of moral equivilancies. They argue that a tactic is fine because the other side “did it first”. This is troublesome because it ignores the fact that there is a difference between right and wrong. Again it comes down to the “end justifies the means” philosophy of the Obama camp which I personally find morally repugnant.
The first instance of this involved a “letter” from a soldier in Afghanistan or Iraq decrying Obama’s decision not to visit a military hospital while in Germany. It actually appeared in a local newspaper here in NC. Of course it wasn’t the letter from the soldier himself, but rather a second hand version by someone who had been given the letter by a “friend”.
This letter also spread like wildfire across the blogospehre. Here’s one incarnation on a Ron Paul supporters blog:
This was sent to me this morning from a reader who’s friends boy is in Afghanistan and saw up close and personal Obama’s behavior.
This is Jeff’s first hand view of Senator Obama.
Hello everyone,
As you know I am not a very political person. I just wanted to pass along that Senator Obama came to Bagram Afghanistan for about an hour on his visit to ‘The War Zone’. He got off the plane and got into a bullet proof vehicle, got to the area to meet with the Major General (2 Star) who is the commander here at Bagram. As the Soldiers where lined up to shake his hand he blew them off and didn’t say a word as he went into the conference room to meet the General.
Notice how it quickly goes from being a tale told from a friend’s boy (3rd hand) to being Jeff’s 1st hand view. Typical propaganda. The letter goes on to paint Obama as an elitist who doesn’t care about the soldiers. As much as I believe that sentiment, this letter is just plain claptrap propaganda. It hits all the talking points and pulls on the readers heartstrings. Even if the sentiment is true, this type of misinformation is both immoral and damaging when it comes to really pointing out Obama’s flaws.
But this is the kind of rehtoric we’ve come to expect from the right wing, especially the wingnut blogosphere. They have no problem using these kinds of tactics to smear their opponents, no matter how ethically questionable they might be. I always thought the Democrats were better than that. Wrong.
Since Sarah Palin’s electrifying speech on Wednesday, several “letters” have begun to pop up in the “progressive” blogosphere from people who supposedely know Sarah Palin. Surprisingly, the things they “know” are straight from Axelrod’s talking points play book. The first was from Anne Kilkenny who lives in Wasilla Alaska. This was on many Obama supporting websites, but I found this version on the top rated blog on wordpress yesterday, its called Mudflats. The author of the post prefaces it with no citation other than this has been “circulating” lately:
This letter has been circulating for a couple days now, and I thought I’d post it in full for those who haven’t had a chance to read it. One of the best ways to become informed about local politics is by attending city council/assembly meetings. I know this from mind-numbing, clock-staring, experience. There’s no substitute for butt-in-the-chair observation, no matter how awful it is to sit for hours on end listening to a bunch of bloviating local politicians. But it’s difficult not to show who you are.
This letter is written by someone who knows Sarah Palin, lives in Wasilla, and has city council lurker cred. (There ought to be a badge for that.) I think that babygate is on the way out of the news cycle, and the next aspect of her life to come under scrutiny will be her tenure as mayor. This is a good place to start. And thanks to Anne Kilkenny for speaking out. Wasilla is a small town. It takes a certain amount of conviction and downright bravery to lay it all out there like this. So a hat tip and a big sweeping bow to Anne.
Notice the similarity to the other letter. It gets credibility from the fact that there is a real name associated with it. There is no context however. There may actually be an “Anne Kilkenny” but her observations are nothing more than opinion disguised as “eye-witness” observation. This one even made its way into the New York Times, as this “Kilkenny” was quoted in an article on Palin:
Anne Kilkenny, who said she voted for Ms. Palin in city elections, said she became disillusioned with her after participating in Wasilla city government and seeing Ms. Palin up close.
“You’ve got to remember,” Ms. Kilkenny said, “we are not much bigger than a high school and she is the homecoming queen.”
So I’m guessing either the name was lifted from the Times and added to the letter to give credibility, or Kilkenny is just a shill. Either way the letter is nothing but pure propaganda. First the author sets up herself as a credible witness:
am a resident of Wasilla, Alaska. I have known Sarah since 1992.
Everyone here knows Sarah, so it is nothing special to say we are on a first-name basis. Our children have attended the same schools. Her father was my child’s favorite substitute teacher. I also am on a
first name basis with her parents and mother-in-law. I attended more City Council meetings during her administration than about 99% of the residents of the city. She is enormously popular; in every way she’s like the most populargirl in middle school. Even men who think she is a poor choice and won’t vote for her can’t quit smiling when talking about her because she is a “babe”.
So the writer starts out saying she “knows” Palin on a first name basis (but then again, so does everyone else in the town). The second paragraph is telling in that the jump from praise of Palin to sexist takedown is extreme. “She may be a ‘babe’ but men won’t vote for her”. That’s seems more like analysis of the male electorate than description of Palin. Anyway, the letter quickly devolves into very specific talking points:
Her experience is as mayor of a city with a population of about 5,000 (at the time), and less than 2 years as governor of a state with about 670,000 residents.
During her mayoral administration most of the actual work of running this small city was turned over to an administrator. She had been pushed to hire this administrator by party power-brokers after she had gotten herself into some trouble over precipitous firings which had given rise to a recall campaign.
Sarah campaigned in Wasilla as a “fiscal conservative”. During her 6 years as Mayor, she increased general government expenditures by over 33%. During those same 6 years the amount of taxes collected by the City increased by 38%. This was during a period of low inflation (1996-2002). She reduced progressive property taxes and increased a regressive sales tax which taxed even food. The tax cuts that she promoted benefited large corporate property owners way more than they benefited residents.
Call me cynical, but I tend to think this was written by a campaign strategist, not a small town Alaskan citizen. This letter however didn’t seem to have enough “bite” for the Obamabots, so they actually had to come up with a new one.
The next letter is written by someone else who has “known” Sarah Palin for years. An aptly named “John Smith” from Alaska. (John Smith, are you kidding me???). Anyway, this letter goes from wonky takedowns to downright name calling. I found this letter on several blogs like this one:
The most accurate description of her is red neck. Her husband works in the oil fields of Prudhoe Bay and races snowmobiles. She is a lifetime member of the NRA and has worked tirelessly to allow indiscriminate hunting of wildlife in Alaska, particularly wolves and bears.
Now if I recall correctly this was the way the Obots wrote off the voters of Appalachia..you know they are rednecks who cling to their guns. “John” does much the same thing in his “letter”. Not only does he smear Palin, but also the people (voters) who elected her as mayor:
Prior to her one year as governor of Alaska, she was mayor of Wasilla, a small red neck town outside Anchorage. The average maximum education level of parents of junior high school kids in Wasilla is 10th grade. Unfortunately, I have to go to Wasilla every week to get groceries and other supplies, so I have continual contact with the people who put Palin in office in the first place. I know what I’m talking about.
These people don’t have a concept of the world around them or of the serious issues facing the US. Furthermore, they don’t care. So long as they can go out and hunt their moose every fall, kill wolves and bears and drive their snow mobiles and ATVs through every corner of the wilderness, they’re happy. I wish I were exaggerating.
Notice how his smear alludes to things that the Obama campaign has said about her–lack of foreign diplomacy skills, questionable education. This type of elitism reeks to the high heavens of the Obama campaign. The telltale giveaway, for me, that this originates directly from Obama central is the total lack of respect not only for Palin, but the utter disdain for voters themselves. Typical Obama MO.
I may not agree with a lot of Palin’s views, but she definitely doesn’t deserve this kind of hit job, and neither, frankly, do the people of Wasilla, Alaska.

Especially when you think of where the term “REDNECK” comes from. white people, who labored in the hot sun, often burned their necks.
Don’t think that applies to Alaska.
Thank you for exposing these astroturf letters.
What Alaskan would describe his own area as “red neck?”
In fact, I read an interview of a real Wasilla resident, one not claiming “first name” basis….she was gushing about the area to the journalist, asking if he got to see a particularly beautiful part of the landscape there. When Bristol’s pregnancy was brought up, her voice was reported to have slowed, and she said, “Oh….too bad.” They’d all known, but it’s not something they focused on.
Oh, and the obsession with hunting. That’s a dead givaway. It’s out of touch urban people who are horrified by hunting. They buy their meat cellophane wrapped, leaving no trace of the horrors of the slaughter house.
I have family from “down home” in Virginia and Tn. They all hunt.
But online I saw one poster call Sarah’s dad “scary” because he interrupted his caribou hunt to see his daughter accept McCain’s invite to become his running mate.
Yeah, real scary. Oh, and did anyone see that Hanna Rosin in Slate called the Palins a “wreck” of a home life.
Is she KIDDING? Are these people completely out to lunch?
OT, but I am spitting mad that we seem to have some genuine “rah rah” Republicans in the threads below. I am bringing my reply up here, to make something VERY clear.
dt, we are not Republicans here. Period. Some of us have found things to admire in John McCain or Sarah Palin, because we are fair people who will give credit where credit is due.
Some of us are glad, in a year when we simply cannot vote for the utterly unqualified, illegitimate, unrustworthy Dem “nominee”, that the Republicans have actually put up a pair of candidates that are not the worst of the bunch, and may accomplish a good thing or two if elected (such as corruption reform.)
But DO NOT mistake that for a wholesale buying of Republican ideals or ideas. We are PROUD Democrats here, who think that the policies of a Hillary Clinton, coupled with her spine and character, would have been the best thing to ever happen to this country in a long long while.
Do not confuse those two things for one instant. Learn the difference.
WMCB: Are you sure those are Republicans? Or is the “rah rah” intended to turn you off? Worth considering since too much “rah rah” for any politician is a little icky.
But Dems have used the fake letter before.
John Kerry’s campaign did. I went to his first town hall meeting when he was getting ready to run for president. Small wonder he did not call on me to answer my question because I was also carrying a “spine” (from a Halloween costume) to present to him.
He promised to answer our questions by email if he’d not called on us there, so many of us signed up our email addresses….and left our questions.
Well, instead of answering he sent a mass email thanking us for coming. Soon after that here came this fake letter purporting to be from one of us, opining that Kerry looked a little “down” and suggesting we all write back and let him know that he’d done a great job.
I googled the name…I think it gave me a marketing employee in the Boston area. Then I tried to “reply all” from the original thank you email. It couldn’t be done! So the only ones with access to all our emails had to be from within the campaign. You *could* reply all from the fake letter, tho, so I emailed everyone and let them know it was a bs letter from the campaign.
It has gotten to the point where you cannot believe or trust anyone to deliver the truth. Facts are ignored, statements blown out of proportion, innuendo and smear the order of the day. And all for the sake of electing the “first black man” as president of the US.
This election has become another version of “Mean Girls” with a smattering of MySpace entries thrown in. Bad as it has been in past elections, this one has exceeded all in its abundance of sleaze. Makes you want to take a shower!
propaganda?
that discrace of a “tribute to 911″ was propaganda. Re traumatizing the country with horrifying media clips of 911 will not win an election. That didn;t pay tribute to any victim, it was designed to scare people to vote McCain. I’m more scared of losing my home, or my job. I’m most scared of what this country will look like if McCain wins. Now, THAT is terrifying.
Ralph, it could well be a bot attempting to make a point that PUMA’s are Repubs in disguise, by trying to get us on record to agree that all taxes are evil and healthcare is bad.
Whatever their motive (I could care less), I felt a need to slap that foolishness down HARD.
WMCB, the Republicans have been in every forum, some of them claiming to be “quitting” the Dem party and advocating voting “straight” Republican down ticket.
Every now and then it’s good to remind people we want to reclaim the Dem party.
btw…look up the history of the short-lived “Progressive Party” (the Bull Moose party). Some interesting parallels to now.
reality, what are you talking about? and WMCB, my theory is that the “republicans” who are now showing up here are actually obot trolls trying to cause disruptions. Just ignore them and they will go away, but please don’t hesitate to let a moderator know if a particular comment makes you uncomfortable. This is a site for DEMOCRATS in exile, not republicans–or trolls pretending to be republicans.
Gary,
I hope to high heaven that you are right about this. Why? Because I intend to vote for the McCain/Palin ticket in November (I just e-mailed Senator Clinton, imploring her not to campaign on Obama’s behalf!).
I am familiar with the letter you were deconstructing. It says many horrible things about Ms. Palin. The worst (which you did not mention) is the part about the library and her attempt to stifle the first amendment. That is a hot button item for me, and I surely hope it’s not true.
That notwithstanding, I STILL intend to vote for the republican ticket. But I think you should have mentioned it.
-MS
Reality: So you are more than willing to send a neophyte into the WH on the assumption he can “change” this country? For God’s sake he has to rely on surrogates to do the heavy lifting for him now what the hell leaves you with an assurance that he will make a difference?
You have a right to your own opinion but let’s not forget that this is a roll of the dice with either candidate. Obama is totally out of his depth and if he is still calling on Hillary to pull his cojones out of the fire that should give you pause at least to consider the guy is unable, or at the least unwilling, to stand on his own two feet.
I love your intellectual consistency, Gary. Great work here.
I thought some of y’all might be interested in this: Alternate Universe: Where We’d Be If Suffragettes Had Been Disaffected Clinton Supporters. Hope it’s okay to post the linky-poo. Lots ‘o love!
the inimitable Anna Belle P (Murphy’s words!)
Pat, that’s so true. Did you see where they’ve trotted out Kathleen Sebelius?
One of the women surrogates Obama is using to reply to Sarah-cuda. Her comment is so obviously crafted by Axelrod.
She said that Gov. Palin did a good job delivering the speech written by the Bush speech-writer.
PSV, I heard that same thing about the book banning. I tracked down the quote to the source (time magazine)–I’ll have to go find the link. but basically it was again a third hand party saying that she had concerns about certain books. The librarian, however refused to comment for the story. They make it sound like she requested that specific books be banned, that’s simply not true. let me go find the link….
gary, I agree. Except for that swing-voting Republican Woman (and a few others), who has been posting for awhile, has never tried to hide who she is, and is capable of very insightful and discourse with us, all the while respecting the differences and boundaries in our ideologies. She is always welcome, as far as I’m concerned.
And who wrote Obama’s speech? He is much too lazy to have crafted it on his own. These people are ridiculous!
I’ve also read quite a few “conversion comments” on the fox news web-site. Each one says something like, “I was for McCain before he picked Palin, but now I see that Obama’s judgment is much better and I’m going with Obama/Biden”. I probably read about 20 of those yesterday. They were so similar to the conversion diaries this spring that were targeted at Clinton supporters that I knew they must be part of the Obama campaign too. THe funny thing is. They are so laughable. They can’t get me to believe that someone who was supporting MCCain would suddenly switch to Obama, and site “judgment”. Please, Obama campaign is such a joke. It would be hillaryous if it weren’t so pathetic.
WMCB–Thanks for saying this. I’m tired of people pushing the Repub ticket on me and the other readers/commenters here. I own my vote. Regardless of how I choose to vote in November, it should never be considered support of the McCain-Palin ticket. PUMAs are against Obama and the corrupt Democratics; we are not pro-Republican.
Gary,
Thanks for responding; I’ll bet you’re right. Meantime: HRC in 2012!!!

here’s the quote from time magazine:
Several problems with this. the word “banning” is used by Stein, a political adversary. It could easily be construed that she asked the librarian how to deal appropriately with books that had language that some might find offensive. That is very different from asking her to ban certain books outright. Second there is no confirmation of this from the librarian herself, so this is pure heresay.
here’s the link:
http://www.time.com/time/politics/article/0,8599,1837918,00.html
it sounds to me like she was following up on the concerns of the voters that put her into office.
I am not voting Obama. And as of today, I am not voting McCain. But should it come down to it, and this depends on my state polling in November, I will go McCain. Unless he is pictured being diapered and spoonfed between now and then, this is where my vote goes. But under no circumstances will I vote Obama. And this includes whatever Hillary says. My vote and my point of view belong to me. At least for the moment.
That is until Donna B tracks us all down since she “is watching”. So until we all find ourselves residing alongside one another in the gulag, that’s how it stands.
WMCB, I agree with your sentiment on Repub Woman. she seems to be authentic, but I believe the ones that do drive by commentary are totally obots.
Banning books is a bad, bad thing! The librarian may not be commenting since this is a small city and she may find herself in hot water to do otherwise. But if so, I would rather it be confirmed one way or the other. As I said, you cannot believe anyone or anything you read. Facts please.
greyslady, you own your vote. Some of the positive comments I make regarding McCain or Palin are because there are genuine things I admire about them as persons.
Some of the comments I make are less personal opinion, and more political analysis. When I say things like “middle America voters are going to LOVE this woman”, that is not a statement that I think Sarah is the greatest thing since sliced bread. It’s a statement of what I perceive the political reality to be.
Some of my “Go McCain/Palin!” comments are from the standpoint of JOY at seeing someone whip Obama’s tail.
I hope that none of that makes you feel pressured at all. I don’t in any way intend for it to.
Donna B. already sent my info to the “authorities!”
So I will do what I can to get the gulag ready for the later arrivals!
OT, but I heard on the news this morning that Obama was having a “town hall” meeting today….as of now….I’m going to go check the tv again, because I could find no notice of it online…
All hail GaryCH and all the other members of the Common Sense Brigade here on the Confluence!
Awesome work.
Has anyone researched either Anne Kilkenny or the “info” about her stint as mayor?
What are the facts? They shouldn’t be that hard to obtain.
the second letter is particularly suspect in that it is exactly the kind of thing the Obama campaign has done before. When voters in WVA voted overwhelmingly for Hillary they said they were fooled by email and foxnews (they’re studpid hicks). If voters choose an opponent of Obama, their response is always to blame the voters. I really would like to know the source of John Smith’s letter especially.
WMCB, on September 5th, 2008 at 10:55 am Said:……….
Wait a second here, WMCB. We’re not ALL “proud Democrats”. In fact, I’m rather disgusted by the Democratic Party (I’m a registered Independent). I’m proud to be a registered Independent, too.
Both of Gov Palin’s parents were school teachers.
I can not imagine the child of a teacher banning books.
From what I have read she thinks information is a wonderful thing and should be passed on.
The faux new democratic party thinks women are second class citizens to be used, abused , and thrown aside.
Did one elected democratic man standup against the garbage thrown at Senator Clinton?
Are they man enough to standup and say stop this garbage against Gov Palin?
I haven’t seen them standup yet.
I can not vote democrat in the election and still look at my self in the mirror.
I refuse to condone bad behavior.
COUNTRY BEFORE PARTY ALWAYS
PUMAS,BUBBAS, AND THOSE PEOPLE RULE
My apologies, John. The PUMA movement in it’s essence is Democratic, because it has to do with resisting party unity just for the sake of schmunity. I do recognize, though, that Hillary had many dedicated Independent voters who are allying with us, though the bit about party unity doesn’t really apply.
WMCB–I “know” you well enough to understand what you’re saying. My contempt for Obama and the DNC is deeper than the Grand Canyon. I just think that there is a fine line in this race as far as PUMAs are concerned, and I wouldn’t want anyone on this site being quoted–to our detriment as PUMAs, IMO–as supporting Republicans. That’s all, but thanks.
nv1962..thanks! I like your blog!!! I was an expat in Spain for 3 years. Where are you from?
People need to stop declaring they are voting “present”.
Make a stand when you decide your choice and reap it’s rewards or suffer it’s consequences. It is too reminescent of Obama.

Love ya for this comment!
This is super petty and irrelevant, but a sure-fire way to tell someone is not from Alaska is to use the words “snow-mobile.” Real Alaskans always say “snowmachine”
My parents live in Anchorage and they have been confronted by outside reporters at the mall and at a gallery opening. Word from AK is that the reporters up there are getting super frustrated because no one is talking trash about the Palins- they either have only good things to say, or they say nothing at all.
Palin has two sworn adversaries in Alaska- Lyda Green and Andrew Halcro. When you read articles regarding Alaskans opinions of Palin, count how many times these two names pop up.
Found it…Obama town hall in PA about to begin on CNN
Fox will be covering a McCain/Palin street event in WI
All of the Internet anonymous (or friend of a friend) are pure crap.
As for Palin being a redneck, good, so am I. I’m a NASCAR loving, gun toting liberal who relates better to women like Palin than I do girly girls.

Shay,
Wow!!! Just, wowwww… Something as simple as that: thanks very much for that “super petty and irrelevant” comment! Way to go!
-MS
shay, I would say that is quite relevant! thanks for the info!
WMCB and others, it is also more complicated. I have been a Dem all my life, but I have warmed up to McCain/Palin, and I will be voting for them, not reluctantly or with a protest vote, but instead with support.
I have watched McCain for years, and he is not your ordinary Republican. He has fought against his party over Campaign finace reform, Immigration, pork barrel spending, and torture. I do not agree with him on abortion and the issue of health care, but I respect him as a trustworthy person. I also believe he is commited to reforming the government and taking on corruption which I think is something we desperately need right now.
Obama on the other hand is the embodiment of corruption and is someone that I absolutely do not trust.
Palin, although she is conservative, represents a giant leap for women in my opinion. I think a lot of the so called “feminists” who are trashing her right now are doing a disservice to all women. If the trashing of Clinton ,and Palin now, is allowed to work, to succesfully derail both candidacies, political parties will not put another woman on the ticket for years. Obama campaign will have shown that sexism works really well in America. Let’s keep using it.
If, however, McCain/Palin succeed, women will be in an extremely powerful position through which to negotiate the issues they care about. No one will ever discount the power of the women’s vote again.
As far as Palin’s education and experience is concerned, are these gasbags unaware that Harry Truman had only a high school education? FDR was his mentor.
Obama had an Ivy League education handed to him, but has virtually NO experience. Hillary could have mentored him.
Now, it’s too late for him to win this election NO matter how much he tries to steal brilliant star Sarah’s luminance. She’s not a democrat like Hillary.
Sarah Barracuda’s interest in keeping Obama feeling like a powerful boy is NOT, and is already being morphed into moose stew by the GOP.
Mawm, I COMPLETELY agree with you. I have no problem at all voting for McCain/Palin now.
But I want to make clear that my thoughts on that matter, on THIS particular pair of Republicans, do not constitute a wholesale embracing of Republican values and platform.
Gee, you’d never imagine she has an over 80% approval rating, would you?
The word choices are also wrong for the supposed sources of the letters. There are a lot of ways in which you can spot junk like this by the syntax and word choices. No, not that the grammar’s too good for a backwoods hick — that the WORDS are wrong. It’s like trying to pass off hate-crime graffiti as the real thing when it includes the word “minority” in it. A real graffito wouldn’t use that word.
WMCB,
You speak for me as well…
-MS
I understand.
WMCB, totally with you there. I do not suddenly think we should get rid of the safety net in this country, for example.
I look at i the way Bill Clinton described it. I going with candidate Y that can deliver the %50.
Also, I think what Janis said yesterday or the day before is very insightful. McCain is pulling his party a little to the left. Obama is trying to pull the party extremely to the right. Which scenario helps us in the long run? I think a Republican party that is moving to the left is the best.
Gary remarked last night that the Republican convention was absent of most of the really extreme right wing dog-whistles. Things like “marriage is between a man and a woman, or explicit bible quotes were not to be found. A cynic would say that McCain is pandering to the independents because he needs them this year, but Bush in 2004 was just throwing the red meat out to the base. Well I would take that as progress, the fact that they feel the need to reach out to us.
Alaska doesn’t have a sales tax.
Oh boy. I myself live in a red-neck town. In fact, considering that I am a gun-owning, rodeo-attending, meat-eating, truck-driving woman living in the heart of Oregon’s wheat field country, I guess I am a red-neck. That’s funny. I never thought of it that way. Well, if Sarah and I are rednecks, then we’re both in good company. Not all rednecks are stupid people–proof being that I am here and a proud PUMA and am devoted to calling out the utter garbage the DNC tried to shove down my throat this year. The info and links on this site alone have made it easy to access the truth about what happened to Hillary, and why I’ll never be in the bag for BO. I’d like to see that arrogant a@@ and his wife try to earn a living here like the rest of us. He wouldn’t last long. You actually have to WORK here, not show up and vote “present”.
speak of the Janis. There she is. Maybe you could expound on your theory of the shifts the parties are making this year.
The state doesn’t have a sales tax (or income tax either) but sometimes local communities will have a sales tax. So that part could b true…
Why is it called “pandering” when someone ELSE is giving me something, and “negotiating” when they’re giving me something?
The Dems could have pandered, too. It wouldn’t have taken much. Possibly defending my candidate from being effectively gang-raped in the eyes of the world for 18 months instead of hopping on and getting a few licks in for themselves, maybe?
Pandering is what you call it when the other guy steals your girl.
WMCB,
As you know, I am a Republican and I happen to share dt’s view on socialized medicine. But that’s not why I am here. We know we will never make conservatives out of Hillary supporters. That’s not the point anyway.
There was a time when the Democratic Party was a party of ideals. Hubert Humphrey, Bobby Kennedy, Shirley Chisholm, Barbara Jordan, Scoop Jackson, Sam Nunn, and a cast of hundreds of others put their country first–before their political ambitions and quest for power at any cost. Some of you see Hillary Clinton in that mold, too. As Republicans we generally fought the socialism that is anathema to us. But we respected those on the other side of the aisle. JFK, Franklin Roosevelt and Harry Truman would be seen as arch-conservatives by today’s Democrats.
Now the DNC has been taken over by genuinely evil people. People who will stop at nothing to gain power. They are willing to tell bald-faced lies and commit acts that would have been considered treason 50 years ago. They are even willing to shaft one of their core constituencies–liberal women–because they believe that you will vote for them anyway. And most of you will, because you have been brainwashed into thinking that Republicans are Satan Incarnate. Republicans will destroy the environment, we blew up the World Trade Center, we invented AIDS, the Tri-Lateral Commission, Exxon, etc. Now we are conspiring to deprive America of The One True Messiah.
I agree we don’t need to have the ideology debate here. But the Democratic Party must be saved from the clutches of the Daily Kos and MoveOn.org or there won’t be an ideology debate at all–because there won’t be a choice. And that is bad for us and bad for our country.
Mawm … already did.
Thank dawg for this blog. I’d have noplace else to talk this stuff out.
I WANT someone to pander to my vote. Shows their intelligence and respect.
If someone has to go to Wasilla every week for “groceries and other supplies” I can ssure you that they are in no place to be calling Wasilla a haven of hicks. Someone that has to go to Wasilla for supplies must live further out, Trapper Creek or beyond…and no one would live out that way unless they were themselves lovers of the snowmachine, moose hunting, outdoor embracing lifestyle.
Shay @ 11:31 it is interesting how the press has descended on AK trying to find out what Palin’s actual constituents “really” think of her.
The press is getting up on their high horse and saying this is their true and holy calling as journalists, to vet her in this way. After all, they vetted Obama, they say!
Do any of you remember a horde of reporters camping out in Obama’s district in Illinois, asking every person on the street what they thought of him, and what he had done for them? Because I damn sure don’t.
Redneck actually comes from The Battle of Blair Mountain. Pro-union workers put on red bandanas and went on a march against the anti-union coal mine bosses and corrupt law enforcement. A lot of them were killed. I think it happened in the 30’s.
Just a little history.
Well, I’m newly independent, but I’d happily return to the Democratic party if we could clear out the stench of corruption and get back to the core values of the party. As the brilliant sm77 said:
When democracy returns to the Democratic party, so will I!
In the meantime, I don’t feel there is any other way to exorcise the party than to have Obama go down in flames, so unless something so reprehensible comes up about McC/Palin that I can’t overlook it, I’m going to do my part to make sure my red state stays red and keep focused on Hillary ‘12.
WMCB, I haven’t even seen any interviews of ANYONE who knew him before 2004. It is like they are all being silent for some reason.
I love how they wallow in the sexism too. in both letters her approval rating, which they refer to as her “popularity” is compared to a middle school girl and a prom queen. it makes me sick to my stomach….
Do any of you remember a horde of reporters camping out in Obama’s district in Illinois, asking every person on the street what they thought of him, and what he had done for them? Because I damn sure don’t.
Fantastic point, WMCB.
annabelep–if you watch the video I posteda couple days ago, they won’t let you stand in front of his house for more than 30 seconds, much less camp out
Dave, I agree. You are one of the “others” I mentioned in my comment about Republican Woman.
Healthy debate by honest people of opposing ideologies is good for this country.
The pursuit of power to be “king of the hill”, whether done by Bush and his oilmen or by Obama and his fanatics, is bad for this country.
It’s dangerous.
GaryCH thanks for taking a peek! I was born in Barcelona but my family is from Andalusia, in the South. Been living abroad most of my life, though (let’s say, long-term consequences of Spain’s pre-democratic past). And now I’m having a ball of a time here in Northern Nevada – love the place and the people here. Maybe also in part because it has some geographic and climatic similarities.
damatt, actually, the term redneck goes further back than that, to Scotland and the Protestant Revolution. But the minor were largely Protestant, so maybe somebody knew the story, and that’s how that started with them. Regardless, there’s a proud history of justified rebellion associated with that word (and stereotype).
Afternoon, all. Gary, this is an amazing post.
I am stunned at how easily some people are manipulated by these fake testimonials. I suppose people are so passionate about this election cycle that they are seizing on anything that confirms their inherent beliefs.
Never have I seen such contempt of voters from any group of politicians as I’ve seen from the Obama campaign. May they flame out into political irrelevancy very soon.
Forgot the supporting link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redneck_(stereotype)
Sarah’s on.
Doncha kind of feel like you have new eyes and ears as a result of this election season? I mean, four years ago I might have accepted a letter like this. Probably not, but maybe just for a minute. But I suspect everything now, immediately. Everything. On both sides. I’m hyper-vigilant with hypocrisy too. You?
Obama Dropping in Polls
Friday September 5, 2008
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday shows the beginning of John McCain’s convention bounce and the race is essentially back where it was before Barack Obama’s bounce. Obama now attracts 46% of the vote while McCain earns 45%.
Obama’s bounce is gone.
McCain-Palin are on the rise.
BOOYAH!!
John and Sarah ‘08 !!
nv. I lived in madrid, sevilla, and most recently in Valladolid. Mawm and I were just driving through Wyoming and I was telling him how much it reminded me of Valladolid and Castilla y Leon.
Re: Anne Kilkenny. I did a 411 online search on her and she apparently exists and lives in Wasilla, AK. There is actually a phone listed for her. I’m surprised no one got her live on record. I’m surprised she actually exists, frankly.
The longer the Democrats make a big deal of Palin the deeper their foots go into their mouths. The huffy affrontery shown at all things Palin is simply showing their snobbery and class loyalty winning out over any democratic principles. At first this vitriol was infuriating, then bizarre, and now it is starting to be funny. All we need is for Dowd and Quinn to say that no trailers are allowed on the White House lawn. Shallow, vain idiots. This is where Reagan Democrats came from. Note: I will never vote for a Republican. Ever. I am not a redneck. I am not a hillbilly. I am a hick.
Hey, have y’all seen where a PUMA put the DNC up for sale? It’s hilarious.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230288207913#
Isolde, it also begs the question, why is Obama running against Palin?
I like the comment regarding the four digit code. I tried at least 50 times to get removed from the DNC email list. They never sent the code. Finally, I blocked them.
Oh, that was in reference to the link annabellep sent.
and if I may be so presumptuous as to answer my own question
it is because he can’t run against the experience and life story of John McCain.
Gary – definitely! And this all-out assault on Palin, while leaving McCain totally untouched, just confirms Obama’s weakness in the top spot.
He could have had VP. He could have grown into the Presidency. Instead, he is going to have nothing.
What an IDIOT.
Here’s my response back when I received that “letter”
This reminds me of the “Muslim” e-mail regarding Obama. I find it disgusting. This is the same smear tactics Obama and the Democrats performed against Senator Clinton. Just wait, I am sure the Trinity Church of Chicago will send a preacher up to the stage to mock her and call her a racists.
Never mind that Gov Palin has an 80% approval rating. She’s exactly what Obama has been bragging he is — not a part of Washington. His ego got in the way — Hillary Clinton would have brought in OH, AK, PA, VA, NV, etc. (I personally am glad he did not choose her).
Look who’s forwarding this out — from ches: The Goens head the T.S. Democratic Club — SMEAR TACTICS —
On August 7th the Anchorage Daily News quoted Obama saying the Alaska natural gas pipeline was international cooperation. By admitting the project is an example of working with the Canadian government, Obama admited that Governor Sarah Palin has experience in international cooperation. And yet a few weeks later people from his campaign said that Palin had no experience in foreign policy. This is not consistent. Either they say Palin does not have experience working with foreign governments or they say she does have foreign policy experience.
Anchorage Daily News article
http://www.adn.com/news/alaska/story/486170.html
map of pipeline
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2071647/posts
Presidential candidate Barack Obama is touting the Alaska natural gas pipeline.
Obama included the project in the energy plan he announced this week, calling for working “with the Canadian government to finally build the Alaska natural gas pipeline, delivering clean natural gas and creating good jobs in the process.”
I just got back from Denver and watched the Democratic Party coerce delegates into voting for Obama instead of Hillary Clinton. Now to see this crap floating around, I shouldn’t be surprised.
annabellep, this election has made me more “reality-based” than I have ever been before, though I thought I was.
I think that the decision to “own my vote” has freed my brain. It has not changed my ideals and beliefs one whit, but I follow NO ONE blindly anymore. I will never again assume that because they spout my beliefs, they are trustworthy in all things. Nor will I assume that because someone does NOT share my beliefs, all that they say is a dirty lie.
I own my vote, I own my judgement. Enough with the sheeple, on the right or on the left.
Wow its up to $132.50. I would think that the seller would actually be paying the buyer to haul it away. Expecially since there isn’t much to salvage there.
Mawm, on September 5th, 2008 at 11:40 am Said:
Very well said. I agree 100%
Right on, WMCB. You and I appear to agree entirely. I really appreciate intellectual consistency, now that it’s in short supply.
LMAO@MAWM. The funny thing is, it was offered for free. But people still bid, because they think it’s funny.
I personally don’t think one needs to possess higher degrees of learning to determine that Obama is a flaming asshole! I may only possess an Associates Degree but I can spot bullshit from a mile away.
The most accurate description of her is red neck.
Um, there are heck of a lot of rednecks in this country. Speaking as someone who had some of those tendencies from where I grew up, except for being too much of a nerd to fit in. They want to spread propaganda that Sarah Palin is from a redneck town full of people who love to hunt and spend time in the wilderness? LOL – are they trying to get MORE votes for her?
LMAO Pat! Yep.
WMCB – I agree. And I’ve had even more of an eye-opening moment when it comes to empowering women.
We need 30% women in the government before our needs are going to be met. 30%. We’re at about 17% now.
That doesn’t mean only women of one party. That means ANY women.
From now on, I’m making empowering women my number one political issue. Get used to the V*gin* vote, folks!
WMCB, thanks for the kind words.
I disagree with Gary that the Republicans are as organized as all that. My local committee could not find its own rear end with two hands and a flashlight. The Obots, on the other hand, seem to be masters of the blogosphere. They are mostly kids who grew up with MySpace and text messaging and live in that world.
Any Republican with a brain understands why the PUMAs are so angry. And, since power corrupts, a healthy Democratic Party is good for the country and, paradoxically, good for Republicans. What interests me is your game plan for taking back the DNC. Step one is for Obama to lose. Then what? I am a little bit disturbed by some of the foaming at the mouth that I see here, but I completely understand it. I remember Charles Colson once saying, “If you’ve got ‘em by the balls, their hearts and minds will follow.” Of course now he is an evangelical minister! Go figure…
dg, I really hope the “redneck” quote from that letter gets picked up and emailed everywhere.
Obama goes down in a landslide.
dg, its funny how they are so aghast that they might make fun of “community organizers” (whatever that means–and they were making fun of him specifically anyway) but its ok to go after “rednecks” and “hillbiillies”. their hypocrisy knows no bounds.
Someone should take screengrabs of that eBay auction before they find out and yank it, btw!
I’m not too worried about these dirty tricks. I think they’ll always be around. And I think both parties are equally guilty, and always have been. I think we’ve had rose colored glasses when we thought republicans were worse. This has indeed been an eye opening election. The bottom line is you have to look at the candidates and look at what they say, and figure out if you can believe what they say, and from that figure out what they’re made of.
To me it’s between a zero who says some things I like but I don’t believe for a second and a hero who says some things I don’t like but who I actually believe puts his country before any party. Kind of an easy choice when it comes down to it really. Especially since my choice has two great benefits. One it will help clean up the democratic party and make way for Hillary and other women. And two it may actually clean up the republican party, make it more Teddy Roosevelt like and more sane. Because after all, like my log cabin republican friends tell me, it takes two parties to get anything done, and wouldn’t a more sane republican party help everyone.
From Ben Smith’s blog in case you missed it. IMO, this is the way the BZero’s DNC does business, in the dead of night in order to hide their corruption.
dave, c’mon, michelle malkin and the guys at NRO have been doing this kind of crap for years, not to mention the right wing radio empire of Limbaugh, et al
gary – yes. A new troll modus operandi is “Hillary forever! I won’t vote for democrats any more!”
And
“How can Hillary debase herself by defending Obama! I’ll never trust her again.”
Trolls just want set us off against one another. Never forget – divide and conquer is Obama’s stock in trade.
Emotions are running high, so I’m being wary.
PUMA
ROTFLMAO! I want one of these! I want one BADLY! I want one that adds the PUMA logo to it!!!!
From another blog: I saw a badge today that made me laugh.
it said
“Read my lipstick”
GCH: Where I’m from, redneck is a term of endearment.
This campaign season has gone on far, far too long. I have celebrated two birthdays since it began 18 months ago and I am at a point where I just don’t care anymore. Let’s just get it over with for God’s sake before we all end up as disturbed and nuts as they are! As a matter of fact, I think I am already leaning in that direction as we speak.
Hey, has anyone posted this yet? Annabellep over at Peacocks & Lilies noticed that someone has put the DNC up for sale on ebay:
Link
The Questions for the Seller are a hoot.
Oops, shoulda refreshed, scooped again!
Not Your Sweetie posted Biden calling the media sexist, but only a specific type of “media”
“During her 6 years as Mayor, she increased general government expenditures by over 33%. During those same 6 years the amount of taxes collected by the City increased by 38%. ”
Having been to Wasilla, having been all over Alaska in the span of 40 yrs, I spotted this immediately as campaign propaganda. Gov expenditures and taxes did indeed increase, as the population soared. A town of 200 people would naturally have a smaller budget then a town of 10,000. Palin increased revenue and spending as the town grew.
Palin is the real deal. Please feel free to dislike her policies if you want, or the party she associates with, but when people try to fear monger about her banning books and birth control, wearing fake glasses, or bankrupting a city, it’s not truthful. It shows a kind of desperation and hysteria. Problem is, the Democrats lose credibility this way. Without credibility, you lose your integrity. People don’t vote for a party they can’t trust. Personally I think it’s too late for the Dems to win my trust, but that doesn’t stop me from suggesting that people who engage in these kind of smears consider what they are doing to a party they allegedly support.
Prolix – Thanks for that information.
The DNC makes me absolutely ill. They must be stopped before they turn America into One Nation, Under Dear Leader.
They are just as fascistic as Bush/Cheney with their illegal wiretapping, torturing, Patriot-Act-writing BS .
BTW —- the smear campaign is saying the Gov Palin wanted to ban books — but my girlfriend did all the research and guess what — IT’s NOT TRUE.
HERE’S THE RESEARCH AND e-mail she sent back to her friend.
http://www.gamepolitics.com/2008/09/03/republican-vp-choice-sarah-palin-tried-ban-books
http://www.cityofwasilla.com/index.aspx?page=136
hey, so i researched the link you sent me about banning books. i researched this further since I am skeptic about Time.
Time mag had BO on several covers, more than any other candidate. almost monthly. i subscribed to Time and then cancelled after seeing BO on the cover for the 10th time. and was sick of the biased reporting.
check out the first link: i found the article on gamepolitics that reports the story a whole less explosive. no details on books were ever discussed.
i went on line to the Frontiersman and other local papers in Wasilla and Alaska — no such story is depicted. I researched archives 1995- 1999. nothing in the four local and state papers.
which took me to the local board, city council post their records on their local website.
Apparently there are many inquiries, and you will see the link from the City of Wasilla, who has received several inquiries and the Mayor herself says there was no banning.
If she ever made the comment, she didn’t do anything, didn’t pursue, and not a matter of public record. if she ever made more than one comment, it would have made the papers, an ‘letter to the editor’, something. NOTHING is there.
So i don’t buy much into this story line. these are the stories that I call the “sound bites” that feed fear into people who wont’ do the research.
footnote: she is not in support of same sex marriage YET, her first Gubernatorial veto supported securing benefits for same sex partnerships for state employees
Gary,
I agree that Malkin, Limbaugh, Hannity, Coulter, etc. can sometimes be over the top. In fact, they are often over the top. But I think the reason they are so successful is that most working people are so tired of being attacked by the left that there is a market for it. To millions of people, Limbaugh is comic relief. I consider him a comedian, not a serious political analyst or policy maker.
The eBay site, along with the questions, is one big hoot!!!! There are so many others out there who feel exactly the same as we do. All 50 of us!
Pat J: A few of Obama’s speechwriters:
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/20/fashion/20speechwriter.html
3 males, all aged 30 or under.
Rush Limbaugh has found a counterpart in Ed Schultz and Stephanie Miller so we Dems have no right to argue. There seems to be enough insanity to go around and enough morons out there who eat their venom up with a spoon.
Pat: I could have sworn we were up to sixty., Who left?
jules: Holy guacomole! A bunch of “kids” who have no sense of history. Wow! And he probably pays them minimum. No Ted Sorensen amongst that group I would wager.
Dave, I’m sorry, but Limbaugh is no comedian. he is a smear merchant of the highest order as are Malkin, Coulter, etc. Do you remember Malkin stalking the child who was in the SCHIP commercial? posting their name and address on her site. That’s not funny, and it is not what “working people” are all about. Coulter throws around hate speech like “fag” and is rewarded by being interviewed by the major broadcast networks. Sorry dave, I don’t buy what you’re selling. guess that’s why I’m not a republican
Mawm — 132.50 — I’m not surprised people are bidding, collecting is in! Esp. campaign memorabilia from the losing side.
One of my work colleagues was just telling me this week that she still has her Whip Inflation Now button.
Rush Limbaugh = Hillary-lesbian, murderer, nazi, drug dealer.
And another all time hit, Michael J. Fox, faker. Yep, Rush is a regular riot! And Ann Coulter with the 9/11 widows. Once again, a real thigh slapper. Malkin following the poor handicapped child and his family to their doorstep to prove what exactly? This is one solid laugh riot collection of comedians!
85% Approval rating of Palin with Republicans
50% Approval rating of Palin with Democrats
over 8k (not enough room for everyone) in tiny town, Wisconsin for McCain/Palin
less than 25 people at town hall for BO yesterday
Can anyone say:
President Hillary or Vice President Palin 2009
Back to my vacuuming. Too bad I can’t suck up a few Obamabots along the way.
chatblu: I missed roll-call that day, so we’re up to at least 51.
Does Eddy get counted twice since he keeps switching back and forth between MA and Texas?
Fair enough, Gary. Some of us think it’s funny to tweak guys like you and watch you go ballistic. But I guess I have a slightly twisted sense of humor.
McCain/Palin ‘08
Dave: Don’t “tweak” us. We are not in the mood and sometimes this just gets to working on our last nerve and you find yourself in the spam cage. Sorry, but we are like that over here.
But the Democratic Party must be saved from the clutches of the Daily Kos and MoveOn.org or there won’t be an ideology debate at all–because there won’t be a choice.
A couple years ago I’d never have thought I’d be agreeing with you on this point, but.. Yeah. What troubles me is basically you have a nationwide ATM network that’s subject to the whims of an easily-influenced group of people, let’s be real, you just need the right way to market a candidate and then the netroots are a cash cow. And as Obama proved with FISA, you don’t even have to keep your promises and they’ll keep sending you shitloads of money. I don’t know what the answer is.
Netroots could make a good positive difference if local people targeted local races with early money for progressive candidates. I mean we could be the EMILY’s List for progressives, but instead they’re dumping millions and millions to get on the Obama train even though he doesn’t stand up for progressive values.
dave, there’s a word for that, sadism. its not a good thing.
the gamblers are starting to lose faith in Obama. from Rasmussen markets (just a couple weeks ago he was hear 70.0)
Data from Rasmussen Markets currently gives Obama a 56.0% chance of winning in November.
OMG! Check out this pathetic letter I got from DFA. (Yes, they won’t take me off their list.)
Painful? PAINFUL? I was LMAO. And that was the sound of the truth you were hearing. No wonder you didn’t like it, Matt Blizek!
The DNC is scared sh*tless.
PUMA POWER!!!!!
I think we are seeing that Idiocracy was more than just a movie. I just spoke with a friend who has switched from Edwards to Hillary to McCain and now to Obama. She thinks the letters and AIP party propaganda was put out there by Rove for sympathy for Sarah. Is everything in politics that is bad Rove’s fault? I know he is the devil incarnate
, but damn, I don’t get her reasoning.
SimoFish,
Thank you VERY much for sharing this information about the “book banning” issue. As a retired librarian, it’s an issue close to my heart.
But as a retired librarian, I thought all along that a careful reading of the wording implied exactly what you’re saying.
I’ve read that she “asked what it would take to ban a book”
Well, no one asks that. What they would have asked is, “How can I request that a book be withdrawn (or removed) from the library?”
The answer is always, “We don’t do that.” With an explanation about the library’s collection development policy.
If the question is handled gracefully by a trained librarian, that’s nearly always the end of the matter. The issue occasionally blows up when it’s handled in an insulting manner (such as accusing the person asking of “banning books”) Funny how insults affect situations, isn’t it?
From what I read, the most Palin could be accused of was asking about the procedure for removing a book from the collection. Which if she’d been getting requests from the public to look into it is a reasonable question for someone outside the library profession.
Making a stink about a particular book would be another matter entirely. But, there’s no sign at all that she did that.
FYI: There are a range of misconceptions about libraries. Some people think that every library HAS to buy every book — that otherwise it’s some sort of censorship. Since that’s an impossible mission (because of both space and budget) libraries have policies regarding the scope of their collections. If a book fits within that scope AND the library has the money AND they know about it then they might buy it. But, there is no requirement that they HAVE to buy anything.
OMG – John Glenn is on stage with BO and Bin Laden.
I guess the altitude finally affected his brain.
So “hurling petty insults” at Obama is now painful? They ought to come here once in awhile if they want to see petty insults. In fact, many times we have graduated to “big insults” if the moon is full.
I keep hearing about the “liberal ” media….but where is it? All I see is media loving Barry …the media that wanted Bush 2 and the war now want Barry ….there’s nothing’ liberal ” about it. But this time they have left no stone unturned. Besides those who pretend to be liberal , even the formally progressive media was bought up fo Barry . When the Nation and MCNBC want the same person…. the masks are off
madamab–”they’ll stop at nothing to win”..hmm where’ve I heard that before????
TheRealKim – When I saw that movie, I couldn’t believe how true it was. No wonder it didn’t do well at the box office – it hit too close to home.
Don’t you realize, though, that nothing is ever, EVER, Obama’s fault?! Sheesh, Kim, get with the program!
katiebird and simo, thanks for the insight. I was under the impression that it was something like that.
Annabelle, terrific find that eBay sale! Nabbed it!
Gary – You can always tell evil, because it has no imagination. Just as the RNC repeats the same attacks against Democrats every year, so does the ODNC repeat the same attacks against its opponents.
opps….make that
When the Nation and MSNBC want the same person…. the masks are off
Dave, tweaking PUMAs for fun can get your hand chewed off. We are wild cats after all.
To me PUMAs are people who reject party loyalty when it goes against their common sense. What I have not appreciated about Republicans the last eight years is very few ever stood up and criticized some of the most outrageous policies of George Bush. One hypocrisy for example is the quesiton of balancing the budget. REmember in the 90s when Newt and the others had their “contract for America”? They said they would create a consitutional admendment to require a balanced budget, but Bush has created record deficits and debt. I didn’t hear any fuss from Republicans when he was doing this. In fact, they rubber stamped him. McCain, however, is someone who I believe does care about deficits, so I believe he will try to balance the budget. BUt where was his criticism of Bush? Where was any criticism from Republicans? I think Rs need a PUMA movement too.
Hopefully, she was trying to protect AK’s by banning “The Audacity of BullShit” and what ever the other racist book he penned with a ghost writer.
CAROL HAKA
it’s not the liberal media, its the corporate media, and they do whatever is in the interest of their stockholders, not this country. That means having a president who will fight for them, not you average citizen. whoever they support we should ALWAYS vote against. imo…
Initial estimates are that 26% more people watched McCain than BZero. Wow, and not a stryofoam erection to be seen anywhere.
paper doll, the media is neither liberal nor conservative. The media is about POWER, always has been, and will switch supposed “ideologies” so fast your head will spin if they see an advantage for them in either candidate.
Bush was their darling, now Obama is.
Just saw the coolest placard at a McCain/Palin rally. It saya “Read my lipstick”
More watched Palin also.
I like Sarah’s jackets!
I admit El Rushbo is really talented at what he does. Couple hours every day of radio isn’t easy to keep an audience. But he is shameless in the lies he will put on the air. Hannity radio is very popular too and he does stuff like putting clips of the audiobook of Obama’s autobiography (which Obama read himself – seems like a bad decision) on the air, totally out of context, to make it seem like Obama says certain things himself and they are his current beliefs.
I am no fan of Obama in any way but resorting to complete intellectual dishonesty, the Limbaughs and Hannitys have no shame in doing that. Sadly the left’s talk radio (Schultz is embarrassing) and blogs will mostly do the same.. I am still a little stunned that Jeralyn got hit with the Unity Sledgehammer in Denver.
whoever grabbed the ebay screen, good job, ’cause it’s gone now.
dg – it has been exposed here today that Jeralyn defended Scott Peterson and OJ.
Enough said.
Someone clean up the stinky red foaming poopie on aisle 1:09 please.
Jody — don’t come here pretending and make rude comments about Hillary. I was in Texas — I saw the fraud. So STFU.
Andrea was almost killed by the balloon drop last night. Now she knows how we feel about her hot air!
Dear Jody,I am leaning toward McCain. I can just as easily lean the other way. Now go put on your orange shirt like a good girl and make nice with the PUMAS. The RNC won’t like it of you don’t. They are also anti-sexist, or didn’t you get the memo?
OMG, the obot trolls have a new schtick. f irst they pretended to be friendly republicans, now they are acting like evil repubs coming here to tell us they don’t want our support and that hillary is a meanie…give it up obots!! you’re not that smart….
When did a presidential election morph into a high school movie. Jody is an ass.
“You and me, we’re gonna have a fight-today-after school-3 O’Clock-in the parking lot. You try and run, I’m gonna track you down. You go to a teacher, it’s only gonna get worse. You sneak home, I’ll be under your bed. You and me…3 O’Clock.”
Good spotting, gary!
garychapelhill, and WMCB, that’s what I’m saying . There is no “liberal ” media . It’s total corporate and who they want is the wrong choice …or they wouldn’t be for them. lol!
I don’t think that Obama’s campaign is designed to win. It’s a non-campaign campaign. An Anti-Campaign.
Heh – good thing I nabbed screenshots of the eBay sale! Well the words are in Spanianese, but the pictures at least are English-compatible.
katiebird, on September 5th, 2008 at 1:19 pm Said:
I don’t think that Obama’s campaign is designed to win. It’s a non-campaign campaign. An Anti-Campaign.
I have often thought that. It’s about keeping Hill out , getting a Repug in and wrecking the Dem party as it’s destorys itself pushing this sad sack…..
As a nonpartisan I find criticism of Republicans for high deficits entirely legitimate. Joe Scarborough has criticized his own party for years for this reason, and McCain took the extraordinary step of criticizing corrupt Republicans in his own acceptance speech.
Can anyone say damage control? Joe Biden sure can:
Here’s his latest gaffe and it is a whopper:
Sept. 4,2008: Today, Biden Claimed That He Doesn’t Meet With Lobbyists And Interest Groups:
Biden Claimed He Does Not Meet With Lobbyists.
Biden: “I believe this to be true – I just speak for myself, is that I don’t meet with lobbyists, I don’t meet with lobbyists. It started off as an accident because early on in my career, I didn’t have time to do it and I’ve just never done it. My staff does. And I don’t mean, when I say lobbyists, I didn’t meet with interest groups out there, my staff does.” (CNN’s “American Morning,” 9/4/08)
But In December 2007, Biden Said Lobbyists And Special Interest Groups “Are Not Bad People” And Said He Would Meet With Bundlers Because It’s “Human Nature”:
Biden: “Lobbyists aren’t bad people. Special interest groups are not bad people. But guess what? They’re corrosive. People who accept money from them aren’t bad people. But it’s human nature. You go out Lynn and bundle $250,000 for me, all legal, and then you call me after I’m elected and say, ‘Joe, I’d like to talk to you about something.’ You didn’t buy me, but it’s human nature, you helped me. I’m going to say, ‘Sure Lynn, come on in.’ Just like by the way, if I turn around and I’m elected President of the United States of America and you call me and say, ‘Joe, I want to come and see you’, I’m going to see you. You helped me. You didn’t raise me 250 bucks but you put your neck out for me. So they are not bad people. But what it does mean – it means that, the front of the line is always filled by people whose pockets are filled. People who are special interests.”

Why would they do that? (this is a true question, I’m not trying to be snarky or anything)
Micki, how about 3AM.
Mawm..Governor Palin was our PUMA moment. I, like a lot of Conservatives, do not and never did like the big spending ways of our current crop of Senators. For us, Governor Palin, hopefully, represents the direction we want to go.
On another topic and thread, I posted the following and would like some feedback on what you think.
I think Senator Obama is not suited for president, at all. And, even if Senator Clinton were offered to run as the VP, I think she should turn it down, even though I think it would be an unbeatable combination.
Here’s my reasoning: I think Senator Obama, if he becomes president, will damage the Democrat brand. I think he is no more than a one term president. If Hillary is VP, you’ve got “guilt by association” when she runs in 2012.
If you think my point is valid let me know, as I’d appreciate the feedback.
Even though I’m conservative, I’m also a political junkie and would thoroughly enjoy the political theater of Palin vs. Clinton in 2012.
Which is what I think we’ll see in 2012.
Great post, Gary!! I was on the bus this morning with my friend who happens to be an Obot. She was scrolling through the NYT article using all the Obot catch phrases about groups Palin is appealing to including unwed young mothers, etc. It was pretty ugly. I constantly wonder if I’m that ugly when I talk about Obama? I vow to try to speak about issues and character without smearing, no matter who the candidate is.
Hi Gary,
just a comment about the letters you quoted.
Of course I have no way of knowing whether they are fake or not (I guess they are), but what makes you think there are not people like that?
Unfortunately, I know first hand that there are actually people existing like the described ones.
I am living in rural PA (extremely rural, no road, no neighbours), and I must say that uneducated people with ATVs and guns are around here. It is a disgrace beyond imagination.
About 5 miles from us is a village with 198 households. They refer to that as “big city” (not kidding you!). That doesn’t bother me, but their hunting bothers me. I have put myself between deer and them last winter, and I will do it again. Unfortunately I cannot do anything about their ATVs driving through the beautiful wilderness, because the surrounding mountains are not our property. And unfortunately this is not germany, where i could simply cal the police about their way of garbage disposal: tossing. yes, they through their garbage into holes, or just into the landscape. We are surrounded by applainces of several decades, tires and agricultural divices rusting and probably polluting the land. And I have not started yet about their old cars in their yards. There is no law against that, I gues this is caled “Freedom” here.
So, this “John Smith” might have only chosen that dumb name to cover up his identity. He might not be interested in having his house burnt down or so.
Just like I would not put my full name under a letter about my own – uhm – fellow residents of this (beautiful) area.
Just a thought.
This does not at all affect my loath of The Precious. It has nothing to do with that.
I just wanted to give you an impression from the countryside. I believe your are living in a city, and very very often I hear/read how city people have no idea about how rural people live. (Like RD suggested a Verizon connection for 15 $ some weeks ago. Yes, if Verizon was avaiable, I would have that, of course. But the *monopoly* cable/phone company here asks 99.99$ a month, so there is no broadband for us)
Dear GaryChapelHill, when taking citations please do it accurately:
Original text:
“Even men who think she is a poor choice and won’t vote for her can’t quit smiling when talking about her because she is a “babe”.
Citation:
“She may be a ‘babe’ but men won’t vote for her”.
Difference:
* The text is describing the men that do not vote for her, the text is not saying that all men do not vote for her.
* etc etc etc
Sorry about the many typos, I should have worn my glasses.
Blake – This is not theater to me. It is reality.
The major problem is not what will happen in the next four years, it’s what happened in the last twelve months. the DNC used voter supression, caucus cheating, rule breaking, and numerous other tactics to hand Obama the nomination. The process stank to high heavens.
I will vote for the down-ticket dems. I will then work like hell to throw the rascals out. Hillary will be a force to be reckoned with.
My co
Gallup daily tracking poll shows Obama losing support:
http://www.gallup.com/poll/110065/Gallup-Daily-Obamas-Lead-Now-Points.aspx
This is the average of the three day spolling, but clearly, the major polls (Gallup, Rasm, ussen, etc.) show a clear shift in support from Obama to McCain.
Note: Two days of the Gallup poll were done BEFORE Palin and McCain gave their speeches this week.
Expect McCain to be ahead in the polls by next week.
God speed!
We’re here because we’re sick of hypocrisy. No matter what our religious or political backgrounds. For 26 years I was a proud Dem because of my social liberalism. I want to keep the separation of church and state. I want women to have free access to contraception and abortion. I want gay people to have the same rights as me. I want everyone to be equal and free to do their own thing if they’re not hurting anyone else. I want my daughter to have these freedoms also. I thought that was the Democratic Party’s way–until this last year. I learned that as long as I gave them my time, money, and vote, the only thing they were willing to give me in return was lip-service. God do I feel like an idiot. Not good. Made Irish girl with big mouth mad.

Dear John, in kind-spirited reciprocity for your free suggestion, here’s another free tip: when referring to a citation, please do make sure you have a solid grasp of different possible functions of quotation marks, before making an inferred suggestion that because something is placed in quotation marks it categorically is a citation.
Here’s a citation for you, from Merriam-Webster:
albgardis- Sounds like your community could use some organizing
Irlandese – I’m only half Irish, but I agree with you. Love your name.
Albgardis: I lived in a very rural area growing up and I find some of your post a little elitist. Many people hunt to eat. I don’t agree with it, but, I don’t like the taste of wild game either. The people I knew in rural areas, were proud of their ancestors and heritage. We farmed and most of our garbage went into a compost pile. SOrry to say the rest went into a big hole, because there was no pick up or garbage collection system. There now is a garbage collection system where I grew up; however, they charge a fortune to drop off appliances and heavy pieces, an amount that a lot of rural people cannot afford. As far as the comment “uneducated people with ATVs and guns” there are uneducated people everywhere and guns are everywhere. Some uneducated people are a lot smarter than some professors I have met. There are guns in every nook and cranny in this country.
Sorry, but as a former rural person, I found your comments offensive.
Sorry-my computer burped or something. Ignore first one.
I need a bumper sticker that says something Hillary or Palin, whichever is on the ballot. I’m such a typical liberal, my bumper sticker would be too long and nuanced.
But I love that ready my lipstick one too.
And I agree with above, the media is neither liberal or conservative. It’s all about the money and rating. Shooooow me the money. Mmmm, money.
Oh great. A Strunk & White troll.
Arabella, color me a concern troll returning a favor.
albgardis, the point is that no matter what is happening in your area, trash and ATV’s are not “redneck”. There are plenty of areas of the inner city where trash on the streets abound, and people are undeducated and icky.
I do not assume that “urban people” are all nasty stupid folk who trash their environment. Nor are rural people.
If you call people “rednecks” in a derogatory way, you are taking a LARGE swath of this country who self-identify as such, and lumping them with trash-dumpers and ignorance. And people tend not to like that.
Thanks Arabella. I stole my name from a Maeve Binchy character. I used to post under my real name, but I freaked when I started getting alot of google alerts. Furthermore, I have lived both big city (Los Angeles) and rural eastern Oregon. I have lived both sides of the coin. I have experience with both sides of the urban/rural experience. The people here in my rural community are rarely offfended by big-city elitists who look down their noses at the lifestyle. They’re not impressed with the big-city lifestyle and all the stress that goes with it.
Hi sister and fellow PUMAs.
I will never criticize anybody here who decides to vote for McCain/Palin. All I ask in return is that people refrain from criticizing my decision -as of now-to abstain from voting for either Presidential candidate.
Deal?
You know who I am having a good time reading about? Cindy McCain. I read yesterday that she believes in teaching everything for sex ed. and she believes in exceptions for abortion for rape and incest(unlike Sarah, who I disagree with vehemently but respect). She has a Masters in Special Ed. I was just reading about how she and the Gullets(McCain aide) adopted their youngest(talk about compelling story). I can’t believe the left thinks they are going to be able to paint these folks as heartless or incapable. Between Sarah and Cindy you have a whole gamut of beliefs covered and you appear to have two very capable and strong women.
nv1962 – Ha ha!
Now I’m stumped. Is “Strunk & White Troll” a new species, or a sub-species of “Concern Troll”?
I hold out for separate species so that I have another check mark on my life list.
Time also owns CNN, which has been selling BO from the start!
Too bad that Time-Warner was able to buy and then take down CNN. It
used to be a decent network. Now it wallows in scandal and personality cults.
there’s nothing worse than an editor troll. thanks nv and arabella.
The fact that Palin is pretty doesn’t mean anything to my brother, who just bought a McCain t-shirt that says
MCCAIN/VPILF `08
Is it crass? Yes. Do I care? No.
More specifically, not anymore. I’m seeing one side faking giving a shit about women while piling on during an 18-month political gang rape of a devoted, brilliant public servant, whereas I’m seeing soem guys wearing tacky shirt who are willing to vote for their candidate.
Which do you think I care about mmore? It’s a bit like all those people who freaked over Bill Clinton’s blowjob and said it was disrespectful to women. His politics weren’t, and that’s what mattered more to me. The Dems POLITICAL BEHAVIOR demonstrates that they are gang-rapists, and at BEST, people who stand aside, shut their windows, and do nothing while a woman is being brutalized. Politically. The Repubs are crude, but they will stand up for one of their own. I know who I’d want at my back in a fight.
And it’s also worth noting that I am not in the mood for faux-outrage over this shirt from the Pink Vibrator Faux-minist Social Club. Yallz been whining about how old-school feminism was all about hairy legs and being unfuckable to be taken seriously, and what do you mean I can’t take pole-dancing classes and be a feminist, right?
Well, apparently it never stopped Sarah Palin, so what the hell are you complaining about? She’s apparently everything the PVFSC ever wanted: proof that you can be more than one kind of feminist *cough*Feminists for Life*cough*, an ex-beauty pageant contestant, with an stay-at-home-husband. Pantygon should be over the moon about her.
VP I’d like to fuck, presumably. And at this point, it’s a shitload less offensive than ANYTHING that has EVER been said about Hillary Clinton, and it’s being worn by men who are going to vote for the woman.
Sometimes they write fake letters. Sometimes they get all faux-outraged. But for the most part, they just plain old fuck up.
McCain is poised to beat Obama in TV ratings for his accesptance speech. Miraculous if he does.
http://www.tvweek.com/news/2008/09/mccain_tv_ratings_beat_obama_i.php
That new McCain ad is going to be very effective.
Charles, think MILF then replace the appropriate letter with VP.
Over at cafepress.com there is a lot of campaign paraphernalia for sale, much of it aimed directly at Hillary supporters (and PUMAs). Type “hillary puma” in the search box to get an idea.
Shay, on September 5th, 2008 at 1:28 pm
I stepped out and didn’t see this til now
why….well it would be the same thing the Dems have been doing for years in congress, just on a bigger scale. They have done the GOP/ Bush bidding every time . They have never stood up to Bush, IMO, Dems taking a dive now would not be an impossible notion.
If they actually wanted to win, they would not have cheated non stop and sat on Hillary Clinton’s chest . They would not have threaten most of the party to fall in line etc. on and on. The White House was like a ripe fruit they could have had . But they worked very hard to mess this up .
Charles
VP I’d like to F*ck would probably be the acronym and its grifting off the MILF acronym. It’s crude and crass but unsurprising. Personally, if they want to have their little sexual fantasies have at it as long as it puts her in the WH and the DNC in the doghouse.
The only thing I find perplexing about the tee is the idea that anyone in the world would want to know or care whom these boys want and don’t want to f**k.
Arabella,
It’s unfortunate what happened to Senator Clinton. (Yeah, I know, there’s a bit of an understatement)
I think, for better or worse, the DNC is stuck with Senator Obama and that’s the lousy reality PUMA’s have to live with. The DNC has been taken over by the extreme left wing of the DNC.
Just to give you an example, as a conservative, we were looking at being stuck with Senator McCain, with whom we we have some profound disagreements for 4 years. After that, we knew we were done. Then, Senator McCain goes and picks someone that squares with Conservative ideals, giving us life beyond 2012. Which gives us something to look forward to. We know that Senator McCain is a one term president. Anyone who thinks otherwise is delusional.
In your case, should Senator Clinton be offered the second slot with Senator Obama, you would be looking at VP Clinton running for the nomination against an incumbent Democrat president.
Which wouldn’t look good, to say the least.
This is why I think Senator Clinton’s best choice is 2012.
I think Senator Obama wins the presidency with Senator Clinton as VP, but Senator Clinton loses the presidency.
I’m sorry for my flippant choice of words when I refer to it as “political theater.”
Wouldn’t it be terrific, though, to see woman heading the top spot on both tickets?
You know what they say: “Only in America.”
good ad. I’m not keen on the Lion Kingish music but the words are pretty powerful.
Janis–everything you’ve just said. I’m no more happy about voting for Sarah because she’s a “VPILF” than I was about Dems attacking Hillary because she’s a “b*itch”. God it never ends. Subsititue race-specific smears for the gender-specific smears and you’d have a mass exodus. It’s apparent we’ve let our guards down for too long as women. I’ve never pandered to a man’s opinion of me in my life and I’ve gotten plenty of grief for it. Well now I have my proof that I was doing the right thing. I am now justified–and I will continue to raise my daughter to be the same way. My standards have never been higher about rejecting sexism and it’s destructive results
Saw a great anagram teeshirt:
D oesn’t
N ominate
C hicks
Perhaps the DNC has been taken over by the extreme left wing of the party-I have my doubts about that -but the Republican Party has been controlled by its extreme right wing for nearly thirty years, to the point that Barry Goldwater objected!

LOL .Male ego issues I guess. Personally I find men who constantly need to remind me they have sexual organs different then mine pretty unimpressive and usually insecure.
Someone should sketch up something like one of those evolutionary charts for trolls. That would be funny. The evolution and various species of trolls. Anyone out there with some drawing talent. That would be great.
“Wear a condom”! She’s pretty fertile and then certainly won’t be able to manage her children…….
However, I am looking into adopting Piper. She was crying for a minute last night – I think they told her to sit down.
VAcardinal, on September 5th, 2008 at 2:24 pm
Lord I have often thought that…there were so many evolutions yet one could always see the ancestor troll !! lol!
they have sexual organs pretty unimpressive
If you don’t mind, CWaltz, I took the liberty to edit for ultimate clarity!
WMCB I love that
I almost wish I could get one. I promised though if the Precious didn’t nominate Tim Kaine that I would only do minimal damage. I would like one for the next DNC picnic though after the cycle is complete.
Are those letters really identical? I mean the letter about Obama in Afghanistan isn’t signed by anyone. “Jeff” isn’t even close to something that can be substantiated. At least “Anne Kilkenny” or can be identified located questioned. Even if she is a shill perhaps her objections to SP are legitimate. I’d be interested to have some more examples of the Obama campaign moral equivilancies (the you started it game).
As an aside, I’m was very sorry to read your work situation, if you are up to it, any updates regarding your situation would be gladly appreciated as perhaps your situation can be used to educate others in a similar spot. While we’ve had our disagreements Gary the (relatively) safe space created by the internet hopefully doesn’t provide the same harassment potential to which you are subjected to in the workplace. Regardless of your political inclination your situation at work is unacceptable and will hopefully motivate you to get the hell out of an unpleasant situation.

OMG. I just spewed water all over my screen. That is too funny. Talk about overcompensating eh?
VAcardinal – I’ve been working on “The Phylogeny of Trolls” for over a year. ‘m a biologist by training and a bird watcher, so this project’s right up my alley
far as deer go they are WAY overpopulated in that part of the country, I’m afraid. I have family not far from rural PA and they are showing up in “city” (city being 15,000 people) neighborhoods and yards, and don’t even get me started on how dangerous it can be driving rural roads and even major highways now that there are more of them running across in the dark.
VP Sarah Palin.reminds everybody, just how unqualified Obama is…….It strains his credibility to the breaking point…………I’m a MAN….She’s a WOMAN….therefore. I am more qualified.
Thank you, CWaltz. My work is done.
Oh, on the evolution of trolls. You’d want to make it reverse evolution though. So start with a cartoon troll, then have them getting lower and lower until you have some lizard troll. And label them all. So then the real test would be what order to put these things in. Here are a few troll labels to consider: concern, roe v. wade, think of the children (my personal favorite), what Hillary wants, Sarah’s for … , and the lowest of all, the ones about grammar.
I really don’t care who they want to f#$k as long as it isn’t me.
CWaltz,if the DNC has any sense, they will run every Dem woman they can find in 2012, including Hillary. They need to take this “supports women” theme back from the Repubs, but FAST, and all the blather about choice in the world won’t erase it. They need more WOMEN in office, and they need them yesterday, in massive numbers.
Otherwise they may face hordes of women wearing those teeshirts, all chanting,
We want vaginas!
Yes!
When do we want ‘em?
Now!
dg–en route to in-laws, I nearly hit one last Saturday night on 442 outside of Iola, PA. Very not cool. Since I live in Phila, I do not have sharpened deer avoidance skills.
I read the NYT article and it just makes me angrier. How has this turned into an Obama versus Palin election. It is McCain that wants to be president. Why do these people expect Hillary to fight Palin for Obama. That is not her style. She never attacks anyone personally and who said that Hillary is planning on running again in 2012? When she say that?
In your face OBAMA!

This woman is to be admired!
Hillary or Palin 2009
nathan, go read that letter from jeff…it does have a last name, and a rank. I guess nobody bothered to check up on it. whether the letter is “real” or not is beside the point. Why do I care what one person in Alaska thinks anyway. it is the way that it is presented–like this is some close confidante of Palin’s. It’s ridiculous that this is being spread around as “proof” that she is a horrible person. I stand by my accusation that this is campaign propaganda, and the second letter is clearly less than credible, if not an all out fake.
50% of Dems like Sarah Palin. Has it occurred to any of us that The One has yet to reach that number in his own party? He hovers between 42 and 48% and shuffles those numbers weekly.
Oh, and Oprah has refused to book Sarah Palin on her show. The reason, now get ready for this…………she does not want to intrude in political affairs!!!!!!!! Can you stand it? She indicated that she “may book her after the election”.
I don’t care how good madamab is creating playlets, even she could not make this stuff up!
here’s a link regarding the letter. It’s been discredited multiple times and the name has been obliterated.
http://www.factcheck.org/askfactcheck/print_did_obama_snub_us_troops_in_afghanistan.html
Pat J–I saw that, too. She said she didn’t want her show to be used as a political platform. I nearly spit out my diet coke.
This doesn’t take away from your point that her letter is propaganda per se. But i’m not entirely sure why it should be discredited outright.
Oprah probably has to do that, her ratings are in the tank. Serves her right for the Obamarama she sponsored in Columbia, SC.
This calls for a tall order of Kathy Griffin thinking Oprah’s full of ish.
Palin kicked Obama’s butt today in Wisconsin on his surge statements.
She is going to eat his lunch on every flip flop.

My copy of People Mag was just delivered. Cover has Sarah, Trig, and beautiful Piper. That kid is a star!
Just wanted to report that the McCain/Palin ticket has been ALL the buzz around me. I went to get my haircut this afternoon, and the stylist said everyone has been coming in and talking about her. She said she missed the speech and everyone has been telling her to get online and watch it. I am in a small town outside of a major city, and she said everyone keeps coming in and gushing about Palin. She was planning to sit out because she doesn’t like either of the candidates (she didn’t like Clinton either), but now she is thinking about voting for McCain….
Also, I disagree with the media’s take on McCain’s speech. Was it beautiful oratory? No. But what I appreciated about it is the sincerity. What you see is what you get and I could not help but feel like it was a very good night for a man who has given his whole life to his country.
As of now, I am still sitting out…I could even overlook the social issues that I care so much about and agree to put off healthcare reform since I don’t think Obama will do anything about it, but the line Palin had about al queda planning to bomb us while liberals worry about reading them their rights made me cringe…
Did anyone catch Obama talking today about global warming! Sounded a lot like me trying to explain physics. Neither one of us knows what the hell we are talking about!
Pat, I saw. He had the deer in headlights thing again
“I plan to…uh..uh….roll back…..uh…global warming.”
Very nice write-up Gary. Thank you. If something is too well written, too clean cut, it’s a pretty quick indicator that it’s not original. If I can’t verify it, it gets deleted.
I just got off the phone with one of our die-hard Republican volunteers who is a retired very active older woman. She told me she has no choice but to go 24/7 this election. What shocked me was her comment: “You know, if Hillary would have won, I would not be so worried, I know she’s a Democrat, but ** she would make a good President.” I was quite shocked because she has never voted for a D in her life, and “was” one of those who used to say I vote for the R no matter what, and you should too. After I got off the phone, I realized she stopped saying that several months ago.

Shuster continues to ask about Palin’s views on Abortion! David, I know your mother wants to know, but that choice has already left the barn!

Anyone who is going to vote Obama because they are terrified on choice is already in his camp, David.

They can’t find an address for him during his Columbia years, or anybody who knew him for that matter.
College transcripts? No.
Utility bill? No.
Envelope with an address on it? No.
In New York State you have to show a utility bill or phone bill with your address on it to get a drivers’ license and a library card.
I live in a small town and what’s really telling in “John Smith’s” tale is that you don’t go to a small town to get “groceries and other supplies”; you have to leave it and go to the bigger communities.
this is really low…from that same Mudflaps website
yeah, just like hillary meant she wanted to kill obama when she referenced RFK, Palin was getting her kicks by mocking a dead child, because you know, she is evil…jesus christ these people are sick….you know they’re doing exactly what they are accusing her of….
I am ashamed I ever associated with these disgusting people.

That letter reads as if it’s from an east coast suburanite. I spent time in rural Maine. Shopping expeditions involved driving to New Hampshire.
Charles, I think the only thing Obama is a fan of is himself.
Carol, LOL — when it comes to Shuster, I would support retroactive abortion.
Jon Bon Jovi is having a fundraiser for BO. Sad, I used to like Jon Bon Jovi.
It’s clear Obama is competing with the resident IiC to see who can misspeak the bestest.
Ummm, I don’t follow sports that avidly, but it’s the World Series for baseball and the Super Bowl of football. Of course the Cubs, a baseball team, would not have participated IN THE SUPER BOWL! Even I know that much.
Jon Bon Jovi is still a hottie even if he is aboard the Obama Express to Chicago.
Would putting a pillow over his face while he is sleeping qualify as Partial? Is there any kind of age limit that disqualifies? (I’m making a sick joke. Sorry, if it offends.)
I just keep hoping he chokes on the appendage of BO’s that he has stuck so far down his throat!
Carol: Not a pretty sight but artful nonetheless.

This article is hilarious. My fave part:
“So suddenly has the momentum shifted that TPM claims Team Barry’s toying with the idea of abandoning its “ignore Palin” strategy and going after McCain over the fact that … Palin’s more gosh-darned popular than he is. Mind you, they were pushing the Eagleton meme two days ago; now, post-speech, they’re ready to argue that the ticket should be flipped. ”
Hee. Karma-chip cookies, hot and fresh out of the oven.
OMG, I just read the part that Kos compared Obama to Jesus and Palin to Pilate!
OMG!
Freaks!
I’m not from there but everyone knows it’s the Nittany Lions (what the heck “Nittany” is I couldn’t say – oh, Google tells me it’s a mountain)..
LOL, that guy should get a letter to the editor published in “small town America” declaring how mortally offended he is by a wisecrack about a pit bull. Would be making himself a laughingstock.
Does anyone think Hillary would say some nice words about Ed O’reilly while in Boston. I think that would help Ed
sm77, hope you see this. It’s been a few posts back but I’m glad my comment was thought provoking. Plus I got a kick out of your post. They linked to it from JSND.
Now is the time for Obama to get rid of Biden. He needs to “one up” McCain and get a shiny new running mate.
He’ll do it. And his second choice will make your heads spin.
(It won’t be Hillary.)
alice, what? How does that work in their demented world?
Palin is persecuting Obama?
Is Obama on trial for something?
Palin can’t actually sentence anyone to death as far as I know.
Oh, I get it. Maybe Palin asked the crowd if they’d rather have Obama or a common thief, and they all screamed, “Give us the thief, you can keep Obama”!.
Joe, we’ve been together a long time. You’ll always be special to me. But you’re kind of old and boring and I need to divorce you and get a second wife, uh running mate. Somebody fresh and shiny and sexy.
Here’s a box. Pack your sh!t.

If he does, I foresee endless ad clips featuring Giuliani’s “Joe better get that VP thing in writing” comment.
Arabella and WMCB: One of my Republican friends say that they are deep in rumors that Biden will be dumped. Cannot seem to pin down why, when. They have just heard that Biden will have an accident and be unable to fulfill the obligation.
That was interesting. So is what Liar Mouth Amy Goodman pulled last week In The Name Of Obama.
Ava and C.I. called it out
http://thirdestatesundayreview.blogspot.com/2008/08/tv-endless-non-news.html
Hillary supporter Sacha Millstone was on and Barack Supporter Patricia Wilson-Smith was dispatched to “Get the girls in line.” So Patricia tried to play it like a Hillary supporter who came to Barack: “At the beginning, I was very much a Hillary Clinton supporter, at the very beginning.”
Later in the segment, when Patricia can’t get her way with intimidating Sacha, Patty declares, “And secondly, of course, because I’ve been working so tirelessly over the last year and a half for Senator Obama, I wanted to make the trip and complete the cycle.”
As Ava and C.I. noted, instead of calling Patricia for exposing herself as a liar (she can’t have worked one and a half years for Barack and have been for Hillary), Amy Goodman immediately smears Sacha and starts insisting Sacha’s said she’s voting for John McCain, makes up a quote Sacha did not say and just goes to town.
Hillary supporters have been attacked non-stop by Amy Goodman who has slanted her show to Barack since 2007.
Fox has that fake bikini photo and some other smears on a page:
http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/09/05/top-7-myths-lies-and-untruths-about-sarah-palin/
That the msm is so in bed with Obama should be a giant red flag not to vote for him. Last time the msm swooned for a candidate the Country got GWB, which in turn led the msm to endorse and actively push the Iraq war. What happened to the fourth estate?
Lisa, on September 5th, 2008 at 3:36 pm
totally , totally agree and it’s been a heart breaker. I respected her above all . Amy is a brilliant woman. No one is fooling her….so WTF???!! ??>? She has to know of his total corporate backing . How can you do story after story about the evil Blackwater , then support the guy who wants Blackwater, but attack the woman who said she’s get rid of them ?
WTF!!!???
LMAO! CNN tried to promote the “trooper-gate” thing by interviewing the trooper just now. It sort of backfired.
He admitted to drinking on the job, and tasering his 10-year old. He looked like the kind of Neanderthal that ANYONE with a grain of sense would want off the police force.
To top it off, he said at the end that he thought Sarah being VP would be “wonderful for the state of Alaska”.
ROTFLMAO!!!!
They thought they were going to get a “poor little guy persecuted by that BITCH” interview, and he looked like a dangerous moron.
Lisa, on September 5th, 2008 at 3:36 pm
in ‘ 06 my husband and I were thinking about doing one of the Democracy Now fundraiser, giving them 1000.00 and you get dinner with Amy? We were too broke at the time and were disappointed,
Now we say thank god!
WMCB, on September 5th, 2008 at 3:45 pm
LOLOLOL!! opps there goes that story’s legs!
NBC interviewed Kilkenny, so she is a real person. (This was a couple of days ago.) She looked like she wanted to say a lot but they only included one sentence from her in a piece they did on Palin. She said something about Palin lowering property taxes but raising sales taxes.
Anyway, Anne Kilkenny is a real person.
I didn’t know who Amy Goodman was so I googled her and this is what popped up on top
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2008/09/amy-goodman-arr.html
She whines about being arrested at the RNC convention, but if you watch the video they keep asking her to get back over the line. She keeps talking. They ask again, she keeps talking and then they arrest her. The cop tells the crowd not to step over the line or they will be arrested.
She cries in her column about the loss of the press because of the police, but nowhere in her column does she say that the press in already lost. Lost in the tank for Obama.
“He admitted to drinking on the job, and tasering his 10-year old. He looked like the kind of Neanderthal that ANYONE with a grain of sense would want off the police force.

BWAAAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHHHHAAAAAAHAAAAA!!!!
It gets better every minute!
I saw a fake Vogue magazine cover with Palin photoshopped on there. They’re obviously pretty terrible photoshops. Though again my guess is that fake pictures of her in an American flag bikini holding an assault weapon, is probably going to get her more votes. God bless America.
Arabella, I agree. Biden needs to PULL OUT NOW for the good of the party! *froths*
Ooh, that was fun.
If Biden pulled out, who would replace him?
Janis, had Edwards only gotten the same advice.
Obama can’t replace Biden. He was the only one that accepted the VP offer and Biden will blackmail him if he dared. It was Biden’s son that got Larry Sinclair arrested. Whether the story about Larry and Obama is true or not, the fact is Biden’s son was responsible for him getting arrested. Obama is stuck with Biden unless he can get Nancy Pelosi to save him
Yeah, I saw that Trooper on CNN at the gym. I didn’t have my headphones so couldn’t hear the commentary. He absolutely does look like every woman’s worst nightmare … a thug with a gun and a badge.
I am so glad that we only have 8 more weeks to go. I’m bone-tired from being angry all the time.
Palin kicked Obama’s butt today in Wisconsin on his surge statements.
“I guess when you are profoundly wrong, it’s comforting to pretend that everyone else is wrong too.”
Bwahahahaha!!!!!
Someone pass the popcorn.
Who will replace Biden? Oprah?
Whoever Obama picks, it will be laughably bad. Nobody wants the job.
Wait! He’ll pick a blogger. Kos?
Mawm, on September 5th, 2008 at 3:51 pm
Amy wanted to get arrested of course. Helps with her ” radical “creds . The whole thing with her has been disappointing in the extreme . It’s like in the novel 1984 where they think they are joining the resistance, but find out it’s a front . Sad.
He’s not going to drop Biden. That would be suicide. Where are y’all getting this?
OMG!! Are we back to a Hill VP worry watch?? I canna take it!
So why does Michelle Obama need to have the AP report the following:
Michelle Obama says she and Democrat Barack Obama probably won’t have any more children because the presidential race is enough additional responsibility.
Looks like she is playing to the Palin can’t be VP because she has 7 kids. I expect better from “Democrats.”.
No, Obama will pick himself as VP. That way when he is impeached for the rezko corruption, he can step in and be president.
masslib – I started the “drop Biden” prediction way back for many reasons:
Obama is the king of the do-overs
Obama needs to blame somebody else
Biden looks seriously ill
Now that McCain has wowed the world with Sarah Palin, Obama needs to one-up him by getting a shinier sleeker running mate.
Suicidal yes, but that fits his pattern too.
Sick. Why the hell is MO telling us that? That’s an obvious shot at Palin. Of course, MO has never shied from using sexism.

Great post Gary,
Thanks for bringing this to everyone’s attention.
Ironic that Obama had a “Western Strategy” and that McCain and Idaho-born Palin are westerners.
He’s already picked his running mate. To drop him now would be suicidal. People would think he can’t make a firm decision. He would be writing his own political obit.
why does MO hate children????
I don;t think they are that stupid to change the VP pick. If they do, they would have to tell a big lie to explain that it was because Biden couldn;t do it. If Biden fakes sick, I will laugh my ass off.

Maybe. His hard core supporters will stick with him.

All good points. If any of this election was based on sense , we wouldn’t be have this conversation
Let me correct that Palin has 5 kids? and McCain 7.
Sibling rivalry.
Soft supporters are who make or break an election.
Michelle is a nasty, nasty, tacky piece of work. She is as gutter hateful as they come.
Even if I liked Barky, I might vote against him just to avoid the shame of having her represent American AA womanhood to the world.
To quote Rudy G — “If I were Joe Biden I would get that VP thing in writing”
Arabella — LOL.
masslib – All he has to do is suppress vote by getting Hillary supporters to stay home, rig a few key districts, bus voters in, and induce enough people to vote for a third party.
Who cares if he got a new running mate? McGovern did the same thing. Oh, wait a minute.
Clinton Welcomes $100,000 in Community Development Funding for the Syracuse Cooperative Federal Credit Union
WASHINGTON, DC—Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton today welcomed the announcement of a $100,000 award for the Syracuse Cooperative Federal Credit Union through the U.S. Treasury Department’s Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Program. According to the Treasury Department, the credit union serves a low-income target population within Syracuse and is facing increased demands for financial products and services, especially loans to minority- and women-owned enterprises.
“This is great news for the Syracuse Cooperative Federal Credit Union and for Syracuse. This credit union has done tremendous work supporting the local economy in Syracuse and helping to serve the financial needs of disadvantaged citizens in underserved communities. This wise investment will help the credit union continue to carry on this important mission,” said Senator Clinton.

I loved watching the video of cindy McCain, and when they were talking abou her bringing home their daughter from Bangladesh and told John “she’s coming with us” and juxtaposing that with Michelle complaining about having to spend 10,000 dollars on piano lessons. She may be richer , but cindy is no elitist…Michelle on the other hand….
Exactly, McGovern. It’s absolute career suicide. May as well just drop out altogether if he does that.
masslib – This has been one crazy election cycle. Anything can happen.
Well, then he would be signaling he’s resigned to losing.
Clinton Welcomes $3 Million in Community Development Funding for New York Community Development Organizations
WASHINGTON, DC—Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton today welcomed the announcement of three awards of $1,000,000 from the U.S. Treasury Department’s Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Program for three CDFIs in New York City. The CDFI Program invests in and builds the capacity of existing private, for-profit and nonprofit community-based lending organizations known as Community Development Financial Institutions that serve rural and urban low-income people and communities across the nation that lack adequate access to affordable financial products and services.
“This is great news for New York and for communities across the country. The CDFI Program helps these organizations carry out their important missions of delivering financial assistance, expanding healthcare resources, and strengthening economic development programs to our most vulnerable citizens and underserved communities. This funding will help CDFIs continue to carry out their important work,” said Senator Clinton.
The CDFI Program has awarded $1,000,000 to each of the following New York-based CDFIs:
* Primary Care Development Corporation (PCDC) — PCDC aims to expand and enhance primary and preventive healthcare in underserved communities by delivering programs that enable healthcare organizations to develop state-of-the-art facilities and adopt the best primary and preventive care practices, promoting public policies that pave the way to efficient, high-quality services, and working in partnership with a wide variety of organizations committed to the healthcare needs of underserved communities.
* Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH) — CSH helps communities create permanent housing with services to prevent and end homelessness by providing advice and development expertise, by making loans and grants to supportive housing sponsors, by strengthening the supportive housing industry, and by pushing to reform public policy to make it easier to create and operate supportive housing.
* National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions (NFCDCU) — The NFCDCU aims to help low- and moderate-income people and communities achieve financial independence through credit unions by encouraging and empowering member credit unions to achieve effective, community-controlled economic development; working nationally to assure that the evolving financial system responds to the needs of low-income communities, and that CDCUs have the tools and resources to meet emerging challenges; and striving to assure that the CDCU movement is both permanent and self-sufficient, by developing local and national CDCU leadership, providing forums for communication among CDCUs, and developing the resources necessary to achieve their goals.

Maybe this has already been discussed, so excuse me if this is old news…but, doesn’t HDean’s statement that the Palin choice would attract women who are not college educated just a tad elitist? Can this man, this Party, still find more ways to turn voters away from The Candidate?

Prediction: Biden becomes seriously ill, wouldn’t be good for his health to run as Vice President (Rush rumors will swirl that he isn’t really sick; conspiracy rumor he really dropped dead and it’s a clone; I could go on). Need to put someone else on the ticket. It would be the only way they could pull it off.
Hello! I am seeing a lot here about Biden being dumped. First, that will NOT happen, or Obama is just KISSING the election goodbye. Besides, the true reason for the Biden pick was NOT working class credentials for Obama, but it was retaining the favor of the press. The press really like Biden and they were all very satisfied with that choice. Kaine would have invited controversy and allowed the Republicans to hammer Obama with the inexperience card, Clinton would have awakened the CDS giant in the media (though now they can act on PDS), etc. Biden was chosen to keep Obama in the favor of the press – a man who got less than 10,000 votes during the primary is no working class hero, sorry Biden.
Also, that rumor was started by Rush Limbaugh. He starts rumors all the time and tells lies all the time. I heard him talk about it yesterday when he was being interviewed by Greta. I think he made it up in retaliation for them pushing the Eagleton narrative with Palin.

But, seriously, pool ol’ Joe. What kind of “accident” is he going to have?
LOL at Repub woman!! if Biden’s a clone, they took him out of the tank too soon!!! ha ha….
Found this quote from (drum roll please) Rush Limbaugh from yesterday’s radio show. He may be the source of the “dump Biden” rumors:
“Had he chosen Hillary, yeah, we’d have gotten Lieberman or somebody. You know what I think is funny? All these people talk about how long is it going to be before McCain has to dump her. You know, they’re thinking about at the Obama campaign, “We gotta get Hillary on here somehow. We gotta.” Believe me, when CNN starts asking people about it, a lot of other people are thinking about it besides CNN.”
Did anyone hear CNN mention this?
Yikes, I didn’t mean he was going to Freudian slip into a pool!
What a way to go!
If Biden gets “dumped” they better not put in Hillary “un-less”
it’s instead of OBAMA!!!
I watched MSNBC for “1″ second & they were “giggling” how
“effective” they Obama camp has “linked” McCain to Bush..LOL!
I really looked @ them with David Schuster at the helm as
OUT OF THEIR MINDS!!!
I’m not surprised. From the very start of the primaries, as Clinton started beating Obama, the networks blamed “low information women voters.”
They also made a point of saying that Hillary was winning more voters with “high school educations or less. One comentator even said “Yeah, women are a problem.”
Those stupid cows weren’t falling in line behind their chosen one. Dean and co. don’t even bother to hide their bigotry to the great unwashed.
I think Biden was brought on for the foreign policy cred and because the bankers love him. He is the their darling now that he helped push through the bankruptcy bill for the credit card companies.
McCain/Palin means reform
Obama/Biden means business as usual
Joe will suffer a severe transplant rejection and have to drop out.
I still think they tried to get clinton but she said no, so if she wouldn’t get on the titanic when it was leaving port, there’s no way in hell she’s going to jump on board after they’ve already hit the iceberg….
I got the last letter 8 times in the last 2 days- the most recent time the subject matter was” friend of “my name inserted” as if the letter was one of my buddies-
McCain’s camp should call them out on it-
Joe has chronic foot-in-the-mouth syndrome. Maybe that will be what is put on his doctor’s note.

Shame on you Hillary for going to Fla on the day a hurricane is going to hit. When are you going to stop being his flunky!
Oooo. Patrick Stewart. Make it so, baby,
With both Rasmussen and Gallup showing Barack Obama moving backwards even before the Republican Convention dropped its balloons on Andrea Mitchell, one can excuse the Democratic nominee for hearing footsteps. How desperate has he gotten? Looks like he’s playing the race card once again:
“I know that I’m not your typical presidential candidate,” Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., told executives and employees of the Schott glass company Friday afternoon, “and I just want to be honest with you. I know that.”
“And I know that the temptation is to say, ‘You know what? …The guy hasn’t been there that long in Washington.,’ You know, ‘he’s got funny name,’ You know, ‘we’re not sure about him,’” Obama continued. “And that’s what the Republicans, when they say, ‘This isn’t about issues, it’s about personalities,’ what they’re really saying is, ‘We’re going to try to scare people about Barack. So we’re going to say that you know, maybe he’s got Muslim connections or we’re going to say that, you know, he hangs out with radicals or he’s not patriotic.’

I will also possibly bring somethin’ good to the Dem’s in congress but especially the tanking BZero/Biden/Pelosi. Wow, as always, this group thinks throw money at it. I wonder if voters are thinking about them spending $6m for the Invesco convention/Selection. Does it go to marketing/pr flubs? Are they using the same marketing as Bu$hit did for the Iraq War. The shock and awe moniker really made we sick – they were killing innocent people, destroying homes and much needed utilities. I know it’s a different situation – except that both parties are bleeding this country dry and disregarding rule of law.

As a strong Hillary supporter I am beyond surprised that anyone could vote for McCain/Palin. The Repubs are in a tizzy that Hillary Democrats are fawning over McCain. This is what they really think behind your back.
“Sarah’s smile is sincere, which I never felt from Hillary, who has anger and resentment in her eyes,” said Ann Schmuecker, a delegate from Mountain Home, Arkansas, where she met the Clintons decades ago.
Arabella, that’s too bad. I love Star Trek
I got hit on by an alleged “26″ year old who has a thing for “nerdy women”. I told him that I also had a thing for nerdy women. Went right over his head.
I do not understand why it is that men seek to “improve” me as they are hitting on me. He recommended an extensive online personality quiz for me.
He said I seemed older than my age. I get that alot admittedly but I don’t know have a lot of tolerance for BO supporters of any stripe.
jmg, surprise surprise. I’m surprised that anyone who supported Hillary could vote for the empty suit.
Obama campaign thinks you are an idiot, or at least a masochist.
Carol: Hey I’m a snob about it,. I know what I want. Cafeteria workers are NOT it.
“As a strong Hillary supporter” sounds like a troll way to start a comment. Sort of like Obama saying “As I have said many times before”, which means I’m flip-flopping right now.
Re: sexy bald men … Ed Harris!

jmg, I could give a rat’s butt what some anonymous republican said about Hillary.
I am an adult. I own my vote. Run along home and tell Axelrove that the newest “Republicans are saying nasty things about Hill, and think you’re patsies for voting McCain” talking point isn’t working.
This is about my VOTE, and my COUNTRY, not about a cheesy little “Hill is my BFF” fan club. Hillary was supremely qualified. McCain is qualified. Obama is utterly unfit, and selected by undemocratic means.
jmg, the real issue is Obama is corruption personified.
A vote for him is a vote for mysogny and race-baiting. A vote for him is vote against Democracy and credible elections. A vote for him is to allow the corrupt chicago machine into the white house.
Fuzzy, when all else fails watch some standup on YouTube to lift your spirits. It works for me. I just watched “Spark of Insanity” wiith Jeff Dunham the ventrioloquist and it never gets less funny. Now I’m moving on Kathy Griffin.
jmg I warned you -there are real tissues at stake my goodess wait till I get the kleenex-

A vote for Obama means more control in Pelosi’s hands and that is a very bad thing.
I have been posting pro-hillary statements in the comments of CNN articles since she lost the nomination because the comments were always so anti Hillary it made me sick.
The anti-Hillary comments ranged from, “Hillary will take the spot light as usual”, “Can’t we get rid of the Clintons”, “Don’t let Hillary anywhere near the convention”, “Why doesn’t she pay off her own debt”, and every slam you could possibly think of.
So, I went to check out the comments on the article about Hillary stumping for Obama to get his dumb**s elected, and not a slur among the comments. Where did all the Hillary haters go to? I would just love to rub their sorry faces in it, but I realize now it was probably idiots paid by Obama posting comments to the CNN articles.
Now they are all going after Sarah on any of the articles about her or her husband. Some are really nasty, and they call her “white” trash. It is sickening.
Over 10k at Sterling Heights, MI right now for McPalin!
I heard Obama hangs upside down at night and feeds on babies. I swear it’s true. Friend told me his cousin saw it. I swear. New rumor, spread it around. LOL
Well Bill and Hill were the old white trash. Now the Repubs have their own.
Sarah’s on CNN
I live in MA and I’ve seen more and more Ed O’Reilly for Senate signs popping up all over the place the past few days.
I’m so excited we might actually give Kerry the boot- or at least a good swift kick in his elitist derrière.
Sarah – “My son got to be here in Michigan a few years ago and play hockey and you took good care of him. Now, he is a man and he is in the United States army and headed for Iraq to take care of you.” The crowd went wild.
I LOVE SARAH!
Hi peeps. A strong Hillary support in Boston, who has been a very active fundraiser sent this report to my sister today re: the Clinton to campaign against Palin meme. She has contacts in the Clinton campaign and this is the supposed “inside scoop”:
Insider information from the Clinton spokesperson:
Hillary Clinton was asked to go to FL and campaign for Obama and put Sarah Palin down.
Here is exactly what she said! “No way!”
She agreed to campaign for Obama but also added that she would never ever trash a woman no matter what the circumstances.
She will be campaigning for Obama on the issues in FL, but she won’t use any words against Sarah Palin!–won’t even mention her name.
Obama camp decided to use Kathleen Sibelius and Claire McCaskill to attack Palin.
My note: McCaskill—boo!
One of these showed up at NO QUARTER today. I’m glad to see this blog entry about them. The one I saw was a third hand email with all kinds of facts and figures that brought to mind “dazzle them with bullshit”.

Don’t you feel guilty that you have turned your back on Hillary? How can you vote for that Palin person.
(clutching pearls)
They have been at it all day.
jmg, well if you want to elect Obama so bad, go out and canvas for him, make calls for him. THe people here hate him, you will never convince us to vote for him. We are the dead enders you have heard about.
Only do me one favor. Stop your Obama friends from being sexists and race-baiters. Tell them they are only hurting the empty suit’s chances.
jmg,
It’s no secret that most Republicans have opposed Hillary Clinton–for the same reasons they opposed Bill Clinton although even moreso since she is somewhat to the left of Bill. Besides, she cleaned our clocks in the two NY senate races and pretty much excoriates us on a daily basis. Except for McCain, of whom she speaks highly. Funny that.
But to look at this rationally, Hillary has been under the lens since 1992 when she first appeared on the national scene. Maybe you do not recall her reaction to the Whitewater affair, the Rose law firm records, Travelgate, the numerous “bimbo eruptions” including the “vast right-wing conspiracy” (which apparently planted Monica Lewinsky in the West Wing) etc. She has not always been, um, well, candid.
On the other hand, one must admire her incredible intellect. And I think we saw a side of her this year that we never really saw before. She handled the worst sleaze from the Obamacrats with grace. It was Bill who came unglued. Unfortunately, her campaign team didn’t realize it was in a competitive fight until February–by which time the game was rigged and it was too late.
I don’t agree with HRC’s politics, but damn I wish she was on our side.
How did you hurt your foot, fuzz>

She has great inflection. She is feeding off of the crowd. She is good.

I am sick to death of all of this “pissy little so columnists and opinionists” that think they can tell McCain when and where Sarah will be. They are carrying on because she won’t be on TV talk shows this weekend. Biden is going on for the first time this weekend.
And, oh yeah, her son is going to Iraq next week – she will be spending some time with him!

Update on McCain’s tv ratings from NoQuarter. McCain Beats Obama in TV Ratings by 500,000. Obama’s ego is exploding. He’s no longer The Messiah or the media darling. Now he’ gonna go cry to the Clintons. Obama deserves this and Hillary deserves to see Obama be destroyed. She should have done it during the primaries but at least now the Republicans can do the dirty work.

I got another envelope today along with demands for a donation for BZero. I have told them since Feb – take me off their list – nothing coming from me until Hillary was treated fairly. Gawd, that was before they really showed their true colors. The requests keep coming – I return my prefilled out – name, address, etc.
It’s going back stuffed with directions on a variety of ways to frig themselves along with the heaviest things I can stuff in it. Everyday my rage grows as they continue to run this D party into the ground – corruption, mysogny, race-baiting, hateful threatening supporters – they really are turning the party into an asylum of lunatics. People I used to esteem. Hell will freeze over before I vote for BZero and this group of thugs.
Boo just cut and paste my letter to credit card joe above its pretty snarky

Why should she go on the talk shows? So Tom Brokaw can ask her who is going to take care of the kids when she’s working? So Chris Mathews can ask her who the president of Lesotho is and play gotcha? So Wolfe Blitzer can show pictures of her in a beauty contest in 1982?
These MSM guys, it’s all about them. How *dare* she snub us? They must be controlling what comes out of her mouth! Karl Rove is writing her lines for her! OMG!!!
I couldn’t believe Olbermann last night commenting on McCain’s speech. He made a comment that McCain “misplaced a comma”–actually he paused for applause–when he said of Palin, “She’s worked with her hands and knows…”
Sarah Palin will be the best VP since John Adams!

I’ll disagree. Any political junkie Republican knows very few will even consider crossing over. I think they’re hoping SP will appeal to conservatives, the crossovers will be a bonus. This is like saying a lot of R’s are crossing over for BO, it’s highly unlikely.
“Sarah’s smile is sincere, which I never felt from Hillary, who has anger and resentment in her eyes,” said Ann Schmuecker, a delegate from Mountain Home, Arkansas, where she met the Clintons decades ago.”
<> She’s been listening to Rush too long. I’ve been surveying D women and they’re not crossing. They may not vote, but very few are willing to vote SP just because she’s a woman. Dittoheads should not be allowed to be interviewed.
I will do a lot of homework between now and November 4th, and , after voting for McCain, I will vote against any down ticket Dem who supported Obama in the primary. I hope sometime before November 4th someone within the PUMA organization will compile a list of who was bought out by Obama so we can all be sure to make our voices heard, especially in the states where Hillary did so well, and the arrogant asses went for Obama instead.
DisenfranchisedVoter, on September 5th, 2008 at 6:27 pm
Did you notice that MSNBC and CNN were at the very bottom (ratings wise) of the channels that covered McCain’s speech?
I hope to God that means they’re losing viewers.
I recorded it and watched it on C-SPAN.
I’m skimming news and headlines, and it’s all about Sarah. Even when it’s about Obama they talk about her.
Uh-bama must be sooo jealous
This lawsuit will disqualify Obama as a candidate:
http://www.americasright.com/2008/09/berg-v-obama-update-friday-september-5.html
He and the DNC were both served yesterday. He’s had 2 weeks to dispute it, provide the facts to disprove it, and make it go away. Hasn’t happened. He’s done. Only question is does it break in Sept. or do the Republicans get to hold it until October and then bring down other Democrats as well (guilt by association).
The MSM is lazy, scared, or both — don’t want public to realize that no one properly vetted Obama.

Re the Berg suit, it’s a non-starter. Besides, McCain was born in the Canal Zone when his dad was stationed there.

Good evening, lots of friends and relatives have been asking me (as an Alaskan) what I think of Sarah Palin, our Governor, and new choice for McCain as a VP candidate.
Here it goes:
This pick floored me. Sarah Palin is a nice person. I’ve met her, I’ve even talked to her for a few minutes at a principals conference a couple of years ago. She has lots going for her superficially. She speaks from the heart, like a spitfire mother; she can even be sort of funny sometimes. She is quite beautiful; athletic, and has that radiant glow of someone who actually spends time doing things outside. Unlike many politicians, she has lived a ‘real life’ and done things that few living and working in DC could ever do….like dipnettin’ fish, shootin’ stuff and eating it out on the tundra, and havin’ 5 kids.
Personally, I’d never vote for her. She has an extremely
simple view of the world. I don’t even think she has ever been abroad. As governor she has repeatedly shown us that she is unable to grasp the demands of leadership. She is very prone to cronyism of the worst kind. Every cabinet level political appointment she has made, she has over-ridden suggestions of our state advisory boards, and instead promoted those who had granted her direct political favors. Not that other politicians don’t do this, they do, but most of them are able to balance their appointments to ensure that at least a few people with real skill and experience are running big state agencies.
She also has been unable to pay attention to her Alaskan constituency. Personally, I’ve written several of our previous gov’s and been asked to comment publicly on education policy. All the previous gov’s have always acknowledged that contribution, criticism or comment; sometimes by direct reply, or at least by that of a staff member. Palin’s office has been a zone of silence. Not I, nor one person I know commenting has ever gotten any sort of reply. Her claim of running an open or transparent government is totally false; the public simply has no role in her administration.
Her previous claim to fame was being mayor of Wasilla, a growing town about 40 minutes from Anchorage of about 10,000 people. Wasilla is a hellhole, even by Alaskan standards, where there are plenty of hellhole towns and villages.
Wasilla is an ugly place that shows a complete absence of planning, design, or sense of public vision. Gov’t agencies and services are completely overrun in this town; things are so bad that they can’t even track their population or build schools in the right place, because most parts of the town don’t require building permits, so the only clue about where people are settling are utility receipts. Imagine trying to be an emergency responder in this kind of place: Houses
don’t just catch on fire in Wasilla, they burn to the ground, because by the time the fire department has figured out which road to take (no signs) or whose house it is (no directory), the place is done for. Palin was mayor this town for at least 2 terms before being elected gov. a year and a half ago.
Her moral sense is simplistic and not inclusive. She is the sort of person who is used to using their ‘faith’ to divide and isolate minority groups of human beings instead of uniting them. To her credit as Gov. she has kept out of this arena pretty well, but when in comfortable company (i.e the Matanuska Valley Republican Women’s Club), she lets her moral cat out of the bag.
I will do what I can to ensure her defeat and that of her
Please share this information
running mate as well.
with those who can use it well.

“She also has been unable to pay attention to her Alaskan constituency. ”
I guess that’s why she’s got an 80% approval rating! LOL!!!
betty, that’s basically the same letter. I love this line
…. She has an extremely
simple view of the world. I don’t even think she has ever been abroad. …
umm, she lives in Alaska, Juneau is about50 miles from the Canadian border. You really think she’s never been to Canada before? really??? or are they too stupid to know that Canada is a foreign country.
and it is interesting how the narrative of these letters mirrors the Obama campaigns attacks on her.
This lawsuit:
http://www.americasright.com/2008/09/berg-v-obama-update-friday-september-5.html
has traction in that it alleges that Obama was born in Kenya and because his father wasn’t American and his mother was only 18, he doesn’t qualify as a natural born citizen. Only his “online” birth certificate is available, verified by Factcheck (connected to Annenberg, so not exactly credible). A couple hospitals in Honolulu have been mentioned as birthplaces, but no records. Looks like his mother returned to Honolulu when he was about 4 days old and registered him then.
The MSM is lazy, scared, or both — don’t want public to realize that no one properly vetted Obama.
And where’s the record he ever registered for Selective Service?? Not registering doesn’t disqualify him for president, but he should have — unless he wasn’t a citizen.
NEW POST!
Bring this party up to the Scratching post!
Your mother’s a US citizen–you’re a US citizen.
Don’t worry, he’ll lose to the Barracuda and McGenius (which I say with grudging admiration) anyway…
Dave – Ain’t it amazing that she was found innocent in all those accounts you listed and I would like to mention something that most people forget, this campaign didn’t start in February. Hillary lost in those caucuses and I still believe there is no way she would have won them. What do you call her winning in NH or any of the states on Supertuesday – wasn’t she competitive there.
I also think some of the republican hatred of Hillary was caused by sexism. Some couldn’t handle the fact that she wasn’t going to act like the previous first ladies.
BTW when people spend millions of dollars on trying to take you down, I think it is okay to call it a conspiracy. It is not a lie if they are really out to get you and republicans have had it in for Hillary for years.
McCain: ” I’m not running for president because I think I’m blessed with such personal greatness that history has anointed me to save our country in its hour of need.”
Okay, I didn’t “cry my eyelashes off”, but I believed him. Pretty different sense of entitlement from the OB one.
But the bottom line is what Janis said a few threads ago. This has got to be a chess game—the Dems have taken my vote for granted forever…but not anymore. I’ll probably be the only person in DC who votes McCain/Palin–but at least the Dems will know that they can’t dismiss my voice/vote.
