The Democratic Convention, Day 2: Non-Transferable

Last night, Mark Warner, not Hillary Clinton, delivered the keynote address. It’s hard to remember that, given that the night was All About Hillary!!!111!!! But I actually did listen to some of Warner’s speech, and it told me all I need to know about last night’s theme. It was supposed to be “Renewing America’s Promise,” but it was, in reality, “Non-Transferable.”

Mark Warner, from all reports, was a very good, and popular, Governor of Virginia. (His successor, Tim Kaine, who was thisclose to being Obama’s VP pick? Not so much.) He is almost assuredly going to be the next Senator from Virginia as well, meaning that in 2008 Virginia will have a Democratic Governor and two Democratic Senators, in large part due to the accomplishments of Mr. Warner himself.

As I listened to this very successful Democrat speaking, I was proud of all he had been able to do for Virginia. But it made me wonder – how does this relate to Barack Obama? Where is the list of everything he has done for Illinois? For his country? In a laughable bit of verbal slight-of-hand, Governor Warner would say “And so does Barack Obama” every few minutes, to make it seem that somehow, some way, Senator Obama was just as accomplished as he is.

But it didn’t work, because accomplishments are non-transferable.

Two Future Presidents

Two Future Presidents

When Hillary first walked onto the Convention floor, my heart was ripped in half. I could not contain my tears. It was almost too painful to watch this amazing woman stride onto that stage, as her husband and daughter looked on so proudly; this woman who, through the machinations of a Chicago thug and his DNC enablers, has been denied the nomination that 18 million Americans wanted her to have. How could she stand it? How could she live up to the challenge of this moment? A lesser human being would have quailed before this task, especially after having unexpectedly and tragically lost two dear friends (Bill Gwatney and Stephanie Tubbs Jones) within the last two weeks.

But Hillary is Hillary, and what she did last night was incredible. She defined herself as the ultimate FDR Democrat, she supported Senator Obama, she made a strong case against McCain without demonizing him, and she gave shout-outs to PUMAs by directly quoting Riverdaughter’s astonishing post from November of last year (“The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pantsuit“) and saying the following:

My mother was born before women could vote, my daughter got to vote for her mother for President. This is the story of America, of women and men who defy the odds and never give up.

So how do we give this country back to them? By following the example of a brave New Yorker, a woman who risked her lives to bring slaves to freedom along the underground railroad.

On that path to freedom, Harriet Tubman had one piece of advice:

‘If you hear the dogs, keep going. If you see the torches in the woods, keep going. If they’re shouting after you, keep going. Don’t ever stop, keep going. If you want a taste of freedom, keep going.’

And even in the darkest moments. That is what Americans have done. We have found the faith to keep going.

Pat Buchanan, bloviating on MSNBC last night, stated that our love for Hillary was “non-transferable.” But why do we love her so? Hillary had, once again, reminded us of the reason: It’s because of her 35 years of unwavering commitment to the Democratic Party platform in the face of overwhelming Party resistance and 16 years of the most vicious right-wing assaults imaginable. Hillary’s adherence to principle is inspiring, and her strength is unassailable.

Yet, despite our love and support for this extraordinary, dedicated Democrat, she will not convince us to vote for Senator Obama, because principles are non-transferable.

The Democratic Party, despite the struggling factions beneath its Big Tent, has, in my lifetime at least, always nominated qualified, accomplished, traditional Democrats to the Presidency. That is why I have always voted Democratic without question.

But this year, they are refusing to do the right thing, to take the only winning course in November. They are handing the nomination to an unqualified, unaccomplished junior Senator who has spent his entire life making people see him as they want to see him, while giving few hints of the real agenda behind the charming persona. That Senator is not deserving of my vote, which, thanks to the shocks and bruises and awakenings of this incredible primary season, I have finally realized is mine to give, and mine to take away.

This year, my vote…is non-transferable.

PUMA!

Update: Thanks to WMCB in the comments, here’s the ultimate PUMA song!

  1. WORK IT Ms. MADAMAB!!!

    Hey DNC, transfer THIS!

    (mooning them right now!)

We will keep going, Senator Clinton, we will bring back Democracy to the Democratic Party, therefore MY VOTE will not go to Obama.

Not now, or ever. Democracy is too fragile and must be defended at all costs, even if it means another 4 years of McCain.

  2. Another great post, madamab. That’s what the DNC just doesn’t get, that we will never simply transfer our votes to Obama, especially knowing that the entire selection process has been rigged from the beginning.

  3. Lovely post Madama

  4. I cried again, just thinking about this amazing woman.

  5. Amen! Accomplishments and principles are non-transferable.

I will vote Democratic when my party gives me a genuine strong FDR Democrat worthy of the name.

I am not their electoral booty call. No more.

    I OWN MY VOTE!

  6. Well said, madamab!

  7. A song for PUMAS! You don’t own me!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmOrWG2FTbg

  8. SM77 – LOL!

TheRealKim – I know. I was crying just looking at her picture. Our Girl will survive, and bring democracy back to the Democratic Party. That’s what she was saying last night. This new platform the Obama for America Party put out was nothing. When she is President, all of those pretenders will be under HER bus.

  9. madamab < Another solid reason why I love this site! Pure genius.

  10. Great post, madamab.

  11. Wonderful post madamab.

Hillary’s adherence to principle is inspiring, and her strength is unassailable…Yet, despite our love and support for this extraordinary, dedicated Democrat, she will not convince us to vote for Senator Obama, because principles are non-transferable.

I am continually awed by Hillary. Her strength is astounding. “They” are trying to create reality by pushing this “unity” narrative. It’s artificial, and we all know it. Nice try. Instead, my love and admiration for Hillary has only grown, and I feel absolutely none of that for the other option.

  12. WMCB – GREAT SONG!

Do you mind if I add it to the post?

  13. I just can’t believe the old (but now) un-Democratic Party

    isn’t the Republican Party 2.

“I can’t believe it’s not the Republican Party” in DENVER this WEEK!

  14. Beautiful.

  15. Right on, madamab.

May I suggest that we have our own roll call vote later today, particularly if the DNC roll call turns out to be the sham it will no doubt be?

I would like to hear from our fellow PUMAs.

I would like to help the shy lurkers find their voices.

I would like us to stand up and be counted.

The only vote I cast this year will be here.

Thank you, madamab and all of you.

    NOvember

  16. The continued disrespect is what bothers me, and it is some pattern of acceptable sexism. While she is expected to go on the STUMP for him yet she isn’t worthy of being a ‘Keynote’ speaker.

Many in the blogging world said she sounds like the NOMINEE! So, even though she isn’t in the running she is picking up more supporters!

I say have Oprah go on the stump with him…or Kerry, Kennedy or his VP Biden or the KeyNOTE SPEAKER!

I OWN MY VOTE… and so far I haven’t seen any ‘respect’ for the BEST CANDIDATE THAT JUST HAPPENED TO BE A WOMAN!

  17. Meanwhile, the Repubs are warming up to rightly mock the chosen one’s big ME ME ME celebration of his personal godhood and overweening gobsmacking breathtakingly ego-driven tackiness at Invesco.

ABC News’ David Chalian and Teddy Davis Report:

When Sen. Barack Obama moves the Democratic National Convention from the Pepsi Center to Invesco Field on Thursday, the freshman senator is planning to speak from a columned stage resembling an ancient Greek temple.

“Is this from the Onion?” quipped a McCain adviser.

  18. Oh, madamab, thanks for this one. It is beautiful.
I have loved and admired her for 15 years, that’s what burns my behind about this whole mess. I should not have to explain my loyalty to Hill for fear of being called every name in the book. I’ve read her books, listened to her speak and have watched how many times they have tried to destroy her.

She just keeps on going, always better, always smarter, always tougher. How can I forget all of that?
How can I set an example for my daughter by being “transferrable”? In the end your words and loyalty are all you have and all you have to pass on.

  19. Please add it madamab! I stole it from Idunn on Hillaryis44.

  20. Was just looking at the list of speakers for tonight. Look at this line up! Big Dawg’s going to make them look like the crooks they are. Hope he’s on first and I can just switch off the tee-vee quickly afterward.

Former President Bill Clinton; former Senator Tom Daschle; Governor Bill Richardson and Senators Evan Bayh, John Kerry and Jay Rockefeller. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Convention home state Senator Ken Salazar, House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn, and Congressman Robert Wexler (D-FL) along with Chicago Mayor Richard Daley. Representative Patrick Murphy (D-PA) and Iraq War veteran Tammy Duckworth will lead a tribute honoring those who give so much to secure our nation’s future – veterans, active duty military and their families.

  21. WMCB – Added your song to the post and gave you a hat tip! :-)

    “Is this from the Onion?”

    Don’t we wish!!!!

I think a roll call vote here at the Confluence is a wonderful idea. Perhaps tonight, while we are all watching Democracy’s Train Wreck In Action?

  22. What a great article

  23. Another terrific post, madamab!

Note: I just caught, and highlighted, a typo you’ll want to correct in the last line of the 4th paragraph:

A lesser human being would have quailed before this task, especially after having unexpectedly and tragically lost two dear friends (Bill Gwatney and Harriet Tubbs Jones) within the last two weeks.

  24. Aw, madamab ……
    Seriously, I’m getting teary-eyed.

Madamab’s Lakota name = Writes like bird

  25. Harp – Thanks for that article!

    I love this part:

Obama supporters and party leaders continue to insult Hillary voters – and then seem shocked when so many of them say they’re going to vote Republican this year.

    DUH!!!

  26. Indeed, madamab! Those were the lines that stayed with me too…
meanwhile GOPers reveal their hand for a good laugh:
    http://edgeoforever.wordpress.com/2008/08/27/gop-to-dnc-haha-pwned/

  27. Do you guys realize we are getting about a hundred thousand hits daily?

  28. Thanks, edwardian! Great catch. :-)

Arabella – Wow, thanks!! As long as I’m not Walking Eagle like Obama. ;-)

  29. Hi Kim,

We’re a little bit short of that — yesterday was our biggest day and we got just over 40,000 hits. Things have really picked up this week. Before this our biggest day was around 28,000 hits!

  30. madamab… I will never figure out what they see in him buy they have to be embarrassed by the Greek temple show on Thursday.

  31. You are on mark again, madamab

I just read this news report. At least some of the mainstream media seem to be getting the true picture.

    http://www.boston.com/news/politics/massvoices/2008/08/the_speech_of_her_life.html

  32. Thanks Katie, I just remember looking at the hits yesterday and we just keep rocking on.

  33. I love the idea of a Confluence vote! Just like the one we did for Chucky Todd when most of the US logged in and left comments. Bet we get inundated!

  34. Trecy – interesting story indeed.

Love this last part about the attempts to suppress the roll call vote:

Really, it doesn’t matter if this effort is successful or not. The fact that the effort was made is alienating enough. Sen. Clinton upheld her part of the bargain last night, and gave a vivid speech endorsing Obama. It remains to be seen if any courtesy will be returned.

Oh, I think Michelle’s face answered that question last night.

    NO.

    NoBama.

  35. This is a beautiful post madamb.

  36. madamab- Great Post… I was feeling very down this morning, you post gave me a lift, thank you.

  37. Does the Greek Temple thing not sound like it is going to jump up and bite him on the ass. I mean, really, who the hell does he think he is, Zeus?

  38. Excellent, Madamab—on the mark. I am still rocked to my `core after Hillary’s speech last night.

  39. If this Greek Temple stage setting is accurate, it just plays into the Repub. ads of him being elitist. Stupid move—–maybe he’ll have an olive branch around his head.

  40. Thanks, everyone. I am still tearing up “periodically” while thinking about how inspirational she was. I honestly believe this was her acceptance speech for either tomorrow, or 2012.

    Either way, she was extraordinary.

    PUMA POWER!!!

  41. I have one second-hand report on what Obama
has done for his district (for those who weren’t
involved in taking tax payers’ monies in exchange
for campaign contributions). I know a woman who
campaigned all over the U.S. for Hillary. She met
some politically well-connected black women from
Obama’s district and heard first-hand about him (unfavorable
    reporting).

    When
I pressed her to get them on record, she said they
were afraid to do so (this is Chicago) but said,
    “Obama was in a position
to do good, but he did not.”

Think about that America. What is he going to do
for the people who aren’t tossing money at him?

Our indolent Fourth Estate is so in love with the
rerun of Axelrod’s Hope+Change(TM) campaign (and
I find Deval Patrick a better speaker and he definitely
has more integrity) that it hasn’t investigated much
    at all.

One person wrote back to a local Hillary group about
how the Hillary supporters aren’t supposed to be
wearing her buttons and how the intimidiation was
real (and this is a state that went for Hillary by almost
    ten points). The woman
made it seem as if this strong-arming was to be
    expected, but NO, this
is a party in which many people invested time and
money and our states paid for an election.

    To have
a free election thwarted by caucus gaming, DNC
    rule changing, and outright intimidation
on the Convention floor is exactly why I’ll never vote
Bama and will be changing my party affiliation to
Independent as soon as the Presumptive is
    crowned.
Roman imperialist staging, my, my. Should backfire
louder than Vegas staging for a Hitler rally.

  42. Madamab:

    Wonderful Post…tied it all together.

We are non-transferable….Hillary can not deliver us like a gift to lay at the Chosen Ones Feet…and Hillary should not have to deliver us. NoBama should have won us to him if he was a real potential POTUS.

Hillary did more then any person should be asked to do and she did it magnificently…transcending them and there petty meaness in everyway.

They scoweled and frowned….and when Hillary graciously acknowledged them (which they did not deserve); they reluctantly grimaced in a forced smile.

How meanspirited they looked and she glowed like the angel she is….
What a goddess (Obama should only hope to touch the hem of her pantsuit).

    NoBama***NoWay***Never!!

  43. Here’s a blurb from the AP:

Behind the scenes Tuesday, the Obama and Clinton camps struck a tentative deal that would allow some states to cast votes in a roll call before somebody — possibly Clinton herself — cuts short the tally and asks the convention to nominate Obama by unanimous consent. This was her price for ending her historic bid for the presidency in a manner that, however messy, still left Obama in a stronger position than Kennedy left Jimmy Carter in 1980, when the Massachusetts senator extracted platform concessions and shrank from the traditional unity show at the final gavel.

But she did extract her price.

The bill came due Tuesday. The crowd. The applause. The promise of a vote Wednesday, and a speech laced 17 times by some variation of the pronoun “I.”

“You never gave up,” Clinton told her delegates, a phrase that so perfectly fits her. “You never gave up. And together we made history.”

NO MATTER WHAT, “I spit on the DNC!” (H/t katiebird)

  44. I deleted the troll. I have no tolerance for liars.

    PUMA POWER!!!

  45. kc: It goes way beyond elitist. This is nothing but “make believe” right out of Barnum and Bailey. How seriously deranged to project yourself in this way. Is it because he never had enough toys as a kid? Whatever, it is beyond the realm of normalcy. How much “selling” of a candidate does one need? And it calls into question those like minded simpletons who support this fraud. Fairy tale indeed only this one must not have a happy ending.

  46. James Carville, on Clinton’s speech:

“She set the table. Obama has to put the meat on the table. Everything about her with his speech on Thursday night I will be impressed about. I think he’s got to be more conversational, direct, criticize the Bush administration, and lay out clearly what he’s going to do. Right now I think the Obamas are pretty glad the Clintons are in this.”

  47. madamab

can you wave your magic wand at this no-brain also?

  48. Obama’s speech has been leaked –

    “What she said”

    H/T votermom from shakesville

  49. I overheard someone call PUMA a cult. Since when are core democrats who have supported and worked for the party for decades (and lifetimes) cultist?

    Since Obamamania.

  50. NO NO NO NO NO NO NO! I will not reward the DNC’s traitorous behavior by voting for Barack Obama.

  51. TheRealKim – Carville is great, but it’s pretty clear the Obamas are NOT glad in any way, shape or form. The presence of the real thing makes them look as petty and small as the Wizard of Oz without his “magic” sound and light show.

Here was also my problem with Warner’s speech. He offered more of Obama’s “kumbaya” pablum. I was cringing with all of this “we are not Democrats, we are not Republicans, we are Americans” stuff from 2004. I mean, come on. When has Obama worked with any DEMOCRAT who disagreed with him, much less any Republican?

You’re either with Obama, or against Obama. And we PUMAs are against him!

  52. Madamab;
    Thank-you,you made my morning!

  53. You know it is funny when these trolls say healthcare for all. Do they not know Barky’s policies at all. His is a polished up, shiny SCHIP and nothing more.

  54. Great post madamab. Thanks for giving Warner props. He is very popular here in Virginia and that’s because he was good at his job. He cleaned up a huge budget mess left behind by the Republican governor. He is the only Dem I’ll be voting for in November.

I have been boycotting the convention so the only coverage I’m getting is from this board. A BIG and sincere thank you for your insights!

  55. I believe this country will be in much better shape with 4 years of McCain and then 8 years of Hillary than 8 years of BO and 4 years of some other republican.

    McCain ’08/ Hillary ’12

  56. Her being “allowed” to speak had to be negotiated?

Every candidate in the past has been allowed to speak and to be nominated and get votes.

What kind of “Democratic” is this party that other candidates have to be allowed to speak by The One?

  57. Obot…talking points they all say the same thing..so sad that you turn your brain in when you pick up your Obama button.

  58. Stacy

I own my vote and I choose to vote against Precious – I love Hillary but she does not control me…………..go back to your precious site and get ready for the greek temple & 75,000 screaming Bon Jovi & Springsteen fans whooping it up

  59. WE believe in the ideals of DEMOCRACY which bring us Roe v Wade, Universal Healthcare, better funding for our schools, etc.

WITHOUT A DEMOCRACY and without respecting votes, we silence any opportunity for women’s rights, human rights, etc.

When Democracy returns to the Democratic Party, so will we. Until the DNC keep promoting a VOTE STEALER, PUMA!

  60. Catarina – Done! Katiebird was deleting three a minute last night for about an hour. They are freaking out! They see the writing on the wall. We are not going to vote for Obama NO MATTER WHAT. He is going to lose 40 of the 57 states!

TheRealKim – No, they don’t. Obama took UHC out of the “New” Democratic Party Platform.

    Change you can believe in!

  61. They showed it on Fox and it also looked like a replica of the White House. It looked like it came of the MGM back lot.

  62. madamab

    You’re terriff.

    posts, wands, all.
    thanks for writing.

  63. GREEK TEMPLE!!!

    BWAHAHHAAAA!!

This sounds worse than Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas.

  64. This is the only site that brings my blood pressure down. Thank you for being here!

  65. They have to put a replica of the White House behind him to give the voters the idea of what office they want him to have?

  66. Stacy – aren’t there some columns needed to be erected in time for “His Holiness”?

  67. There goes that Pavlovian bell again! Ding ding ding! Scary POTUS! Booga Booga Booga! Why am I not clutching my uterus in cringing fear? Oh, that’s right, I am feeling EMPOWERED.

Stacy, no one tells me how to vote. No one. I am absolutley committed to the ideals Hillary espoused. And I do not believe for one second that Barack Obama cares jack shit about them , or will attain any of them.

He is not going to be able to ride to the presidency on Hillary Rodham Clinton’s coattails. He is not going to ride to the presidency on the basis of her, Kennedy, or the Baby Jesus himself vouching for him

He is going to have to stand up FOR HIMSELF and convince the American voter that he is more than a vacuous overblown ego in love with his own compelling “story”. He is going to have to earn votes FOR HIMSELF.

And THAT, Stacy, is something he is proving singularly unable to do.

  68. gxm – Thanks! My dad and stepmom live in VA. They have nothing but good things to say about Mark Warner. In fact, I was hoping he’d run for President this year. Clearly, he stepped aside for either Hillary or Obama’s sake.

In any case, the only think I didn’t like from Warner was the Obama propaganda last night, but hey, even Hillary was forced to speak kindly of The One….

  69. Mods–Chris Blask made this same comment on previous thread. Could we please have clean-up in Aisles 1 and 2? Thanks.

  70. A Greek tragedy for sure.

  71. Stacy, if you truly believed in those ideals, you would have supported Hillary to begin with. Or at the very least, refrained from heaping scorn and abuse on her and her supporters.

    NO DEAL.

  72. New word! Obamaganda.

  73. From today’s (Minneapolis) Star Tribune, an op-ed from a Clinton supporter who plans to vote for McCain:

    http://www.startribune.com/opinion/27445154.html?elr=KArksc8P:Pc:Ug8P:Pc:UiD3aPc:_Yyc:aULPQL7PQLanchO7DiUr

  74. I’ll work on behalf of downticket contests that will, hopefully, result in a more effective Democratic majority in Congress. BO, however, is simply NOT “change [I] can believe in”.

  75. WMCB

    woot!

not “clutching my uterus in cringing fear either”.

    Yes way
    Yes how
    Yes, McCain

    PUMA
    NObama

  76. noimean

    fear” either

  77. Ssmith at BP just said that McCain is announcing veep today. Any truth to it?

  78. Grayslady – He keeps repeating the same comment. I delete them as soon as I see them on my post, but I can’t delete him from other people’s posts.

I have to laugh when trolls come here, lie, scream and berate us, then call us hypocrites when they’re deleted.

They’re in Riverdaughter’s house. They can obey the site rules or they can leave. End of story.

  79. Regency – Obamaganda! LOL

  80. My PUMA mom, a naturalized US citizen from Dominican Republic, said that the DNC stage has nothing “American” about it – she said, these are her words:

    - Where’s the American Flag?
    - Where’s the Eagle?
    - Where’s the stripes and stars?
    - Where is the “We the people” sign?

  81. Madamab,

Thank you for this beautiful, moving post. I’m sad today, but I’m also proud–proud of Hillary, Bill, and Chelsea, and most of all proud of us. We will keep going–even when the Obama thugs tell us to get over it, that we have no choice but to vote for him.

No. We won’t. Will will go our own way, and they will have to figure out how to get him elected without us. I don’t care what names I am called or how many times I’m told that I’m just a stupid, fat, menopausal woman. Too bad. I own my vote. Obama doesn’t get my vote.

Perhaps if he had asked for my vote back in December, he might have had a chance. But he didn’t. He took me for granted. I don’t know why. Maybe he didn’t realize how many of us he was taking for granted. Maybe he’s just so narcissistic that he can’t imagine anyone not worshipping at his feet. Whatever the reason, it’s too late now. It’s time for him to step up and his thug supporters to step up. They’ll have to convince people to vote for him. I don’t think they will be successful.

  82. I am now very comfortable that if the SD’s do not do the honorable thing today and make Senator Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton the Democratic Nominee, I can live with Hillary being the leader of the Senate working with President McCain while BO is on coffee runs until he is repelled by the Chicago Mob on his next election date.

    No Way
    No Deal
    Nobama!

    PUMA HAKA

  83. Madama, that is why I will never vote for him. Country before party. My rights as a voter were violated, not just this year but in ’00 and again in ’04. I feel like I have been taken for granted most of my life and the only person who can change this is me. No whining, no poor me, I can change my life. I have changed it and I will continue to change it. Maybe the things I do will be questioned, but I will know, that I have made the right choice.

  84. With his mini-white house prop or Greek Temple; Obama is going to look like the flaming con-artist that he is….I am glad he is so much of a narcistic fool that he does’t see himself..play acting like he is POTUS.

Obama take your toys and go home…you can set up your stage at your 1.9 million dollar mansion in the yard Rezko bought for you with the taxpayers money (millions) that you got him for putting poor women and children in rat infested unheated Chicago slums.

You are such a kind man to care so much about the children freezing in your buddy Rezko’s Condo’s for poor folk.

Take your sick drama back to Chicago….and make us all happy.

PUMA is giving Obama a present…..
a one-way ticket back to Chicago.

  85. Ah, yes, Typo! Sorry about that peeps.

  86. Grayslady,

I deleted Chris Blask from the previous thread. I’ll see if he has commented anywhere else and get rid of those too.

  87. If the Democratic party wanted my vote they should not have ignored over 100,000 voters in Texas who picked Hillary over Obama. She came out of Texas with a goose egg.

They should not have stolen four delegates from Michigan based on exit polling.

Florida’s votes should have counted or Michigan and Florida should have revoted.

Pelosi should not have called for delegates to vote before the states had even begun to finish the voting process.

They should have listened to the voters. The middle class was speaking loudly and clearly since early March. Middle America chooses presidential candidates.

  88. Bostonboomer – Thank you!

    WORD, SISTAH!!!

    No how, no way, NOBAMA!

  89. I like the idea of a roll call here at the confluence tonight. Thanks Madamb for a great post. I’m so sad right now.

  90. First the faux seal, then the plane, now a stage White house prop?

Are they going to do a school play?

    OMG.

  91. Jmac – And middle America rejects Obama. Iowa is a caucus and can be gamed just like all the others were.

  92. madamab, i understand your comments in appreciation of former Gov. Mark Warner of VA, but you need to understand that he (along with most of the other speakers last night) is the ULTIMATE elitist, centrist, corporate Dem — exactly like Obama, and the farthest cry possible from a true FDR-Dem like Hillary.

He AND his successor Tim Kaine made their political fortunes through massive contributions — hundreds of thousands of dollars (VA has no limits on campaign contributions to state campaigns) — from developers, coal companies (the ones that rip the tops off of mountains) , oil companies, the coal-powered electricity industry, PHARMA and HMOs. IOW, every anti-consumer, anti-environment, anti-citizen lobby there is. And they have both pandered shamelessly and consistently to all of these corporate interests.

In the meantime turning what used to be VA’s premier public university (and one of Thomas Jefferson’s proudest legacies to the people of this state and nation) — the University of Virginia — into virtually a private corporate entity which tramples on the labor rights of its employees, denies basic free speech rights to its students and employees, and most of whose financial records, investments and dealings are now BY LAW hidden from view.

Please don’t associate Hillary’s good name with people like Mark Warner.

  93. Please pardon my typos….I’m on Exploror and there is no spell check that I have found yet…I will get better.
I do like to spell correctly….anyway, thanks for your patience.

  94. I admit it. I have been tuning out politics due to complete disgust with my old Party. Did Obama really remove UHC from the platform?

  95. Mark Warner tried running for president last year but no one was interested.

  96. Amen BostonBoomer!

had Obama won fair & square – without the voter fraud and harassing haka and won the popular vote AND pushed Democratic tenets like every Democratic Candidate SHOULD, then I probably would’ve supported him in the end – as we always have done.

But this hasn’t happened. My vote was toilet paper.

  97. The general reaction to Mark Warner for President is: Who?

  98. JB in VA – Duly noted. We can agree to disagree on Warner. :-)

Gxm – Every American is guaranteed to have affordable, comprehensive health care. Not government-sponsored, universal health care. This is the language of privatization, and even that only made it in because of Hillary.

  99. Dancing Opossum:

I DID support Hillary. I worked the polls for her, had a sign out in my yard, contributed to her campaign, voted for her, etc. And THAT is why I honor her with supporting the candidate who represents her ideals–and who is the only hope this country has at this time of defeating the neo-cons.

  100. Mark Warner was actually quite popular with the netroots when he started running, but he withdrew suddenly and inexplicably just a month or so into his run.

  101. And keep in mind that Mark Warner, Jim Webb, and Tim Kaine were all participants in the Virginia primary in which the mission of the state Democratic party was to destroy the Clintons by any means possible.

  102. madamab, your headline reminds me of Carville’s line yesterday

Support is not like some sub-prime mortgage that you bundle up and sell to someone else,”

  103. Obama doesn’t have ideals. He has promises and most of them are bullshit. Newsflash much

    Anyway, back later, got class.

  104. I heard he was unable to raise any money.

  105. Stacy – Are you actually contending that Obama represents Hillary’s ideals?

    BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

That comment is so funny, I’m not even deleting it. :-)

  106. WCMB: I would clutch my uterus, but alas, I don’t have one anymore. But I do have occasional hot flashes, does that count?

  107. Not in Virginia. Warner is very popular here. A lot of Virginians wanted him to run for President because of the great job he did cleaning up the budget mess left by the Republicans. I like Warner and will support his Senate bid in November. But nobama. My vote will go to McKinney. (Maybe even McCain if Virginia ends up being a close call.)

  108. I am voting for candidate Y. Thanks for the heads up President Clinton.

Rasmussen on Fox – BO’s 4 point slide in the last 4 days is due to Hillary not on the ticket.

………………………………and they have just started to poll.

    PUMA HAKA

  109. Carol – WOW. I knew it! There are a lot of people who have been waiting to see if Obama would pick Hillary before they committed to not voting for him.

Who ever heard of the presumptive nominee getting a NEGATIVE bounce from his Convention?

A new kind of politics, indeed!

  110. Stacy, Obama is the antithesis of Hillary. That’s why so many of her supporters can’t vote for him.

  111. Thanks madamab and BB, and to all the others here who help to keep this an Obama-free zone. Over at Sugar n Spice, Sugar says she’s been bombarded by trolls the past 12 hours.

  112. I wouldn’t have voted for him if he had picked HRC, but I figured his numbers would really slide when he chose Biden.

  113. EOF – Yes, that was a GREAT quote! Thanks for sharing it! :-)

  114. A Greek temple? Is that to reinforce his frat boy credentials?
I’ll bet McCain will use that to prove O is some kind of pagan.

  115. Someone was just reporting that BO was reconsidering Invesco Field. If there anyone he has failed to piss off! Isn’t it a little late when you have your adoring shepard’s sleeping outside the sacred grounds waiting to enter the temple?

    PUMA HAKA

  116. McCain is serving him his ass on a platter.

  117. Hell, my small little site was trolled last night. I was amazed that they even found me.

  118. votermom – LOL! If he were, I might like him better. But that’s just me. ;-)

Grayslady – I echo your thanks. I can only edit my own posts, so I’ve just been sitting back and enjoying the work of KB and BB and RD the past few days. :-)

  119. Okay totally OT, but I gotta get a new job. My boss who hasn’t given me a raise in a year and a half because we just aren’t making the money, just brought in a lease for a corporate apartment for his mistress to live in.

  120. Mark Warner was a great governor for us here in VA….the state was in a mess after Gilmore, but he was never one for giving inspirational speeches.

Just as Hillary has no choice but to support Obama, Warner has no choice. It’s just politics.

    Mountain Sage

  121. No Way!
    No How!
    No Obama!

Hillary is fantastic….but she’s not a miracle worker. Her great speech can not make up for Obama’s multitude of shortcomings and inexperience. If the Obama campaign is counting on her delivering her 18mill supporters, they have another thing coming.

  122. Stacey: Obama is a new version of “neo-con….”
wanting to remake the world in his own image.

One version is just a bad as the other…..on Obama’s treak to change the world alot of innocent people will get destroyed…namely anyone that gets in his way.

His ambitions know no bounds…like the neo-con’s who want all Countries in the World to be Democracy’s (sounds like a nice idea) but the problem is they are Neo-Cons tend to be ideologues and THUGS. Also, they will use any means to gain their ends.

JUST LIKE OBAMA….will use any means to acheive his goals…
he ran rampage over Democracy in the DEM Party…by paying people off….committing voter fraud, intimidating people so they wouldn’t vote, lieing, cheating and stealing (and that’s just a partial list….all for the Goal.

That is what Obama has done to the Dem Party.

It will get worse as Obama gets more POWER.
Let’s see, Hitler didn’t start off putting people in ovens that came later. The more POWER Obama gets the more he wants…sooooo we don’t want to go down that road with him.

NoBAMa for POTUS, NOOOOO, not a good idea!!!

  123. GREEK TEMPLE!!!

    BWAHAHHAAAA!!

This sounds worse than Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas.

Never having been to Vegas, the first thought that came to my mind was Spinal Tap’s “Stonehenge”.

  124. I agree, MS, Mark Warner was a great Gov for VA, but what happened in VA during this primary season made me sick. The Democratic insiders didn’t really support Obama, they were just anti-Clinton all the way. Maybe Warner felt differently, maybe that’s why he decided against participating in the fraud, but it seemed to me that he stepped aside to avoid splitting the anti-Clinton vote in Va during the primary. With Warner out of the running, Obama had no trouble taking VA. If Warner had won, the anti-Clinton vote might have split and Clinton might have won VA.

  125. Stacy is now telling us what to do and how to be.

She is no longer amusing. Buh-bye, sweetie.

  126. If Warner had “run”, not if Warner had “won”. Sorry.

  127. Even worse, madamab, she is telling us that she has mysteriously ascertained what we really think, and really believe. Stacy knows us better than we know ourselves, on the basis of 5 minutes in a blog.

The hubris of Obama’s supporters is almost as astounding as his own.

  128. I respect and admire both Senator Clinton and former President Bill Clinton. I respect them and believe they are two of the best that our political system has to offer.

But if the two of them showed up on my doorstep and asked me pretty please with sugar to vote for Obama, I would reluctantly, respectfully, decline.

Oh and if you haven’t had your daily dose of condescension and pundidiocy here’s one for ya.

  129. Fox News

Alphabetical Call of the States, Full Roll Call Vote

Now, let’s see how they fixed it.

    PUMA HAKA

  130. Spinal Tap! Thanks Julie! Hope McCain gets wind of that!

  131. WMCB – You know who else always pretends they can read the minds of Clintons?

    Republicans.

  132. Why do all these so-called Obama supporters always sound like they came right from Free Republic or Little Green Footballs?

  133. Here is what AP says:

With the convention roll call just hours away, delegates still are waiting to hear which states will get to announce their votes before the balloting is cut off.

  134. Perhaps the Democrats can name the Greek temple “Obama’s Great Erection.”

  135. Hillary has accomplished a miraculous feat that only she could do: she has moved herself out of harms way, out of the path of blame, and positioned herself beautifully for the future, whatever that may hold for her. I, for one, hope to see her President of the United States!

It is up to us now to fight for democracy in the Democratic Party. Just as she would not give up her principles, we must not give up ours!!

    PUMA!

  136. KenoshaMarge – That is beyond disgusting.

Is this really about Hillary and politics, or some deeply resented dissing by a husband, ex-husband, ex-boyfriend or boss?

Can’t we all just get along?

    A woman wrote that.

    Jesus Fucking Christ.

  137. Grayslady,

Thank you for your kind words. I do my best to contribute. I love this blog so much. When I got here, I felt like I had been through a meat grinder. I was part of the DK “community” for four years, but when I couldn’t find any reasons to support Obama, I was driven out. I saw this place as a refuge, and it still is, thanks to Riverdaughter. I can’t begin to say how much I admire and respect her.

We Conflucians are people who have made up our minds and who want to spend our time on-line talking and strategizing about the future and taking actions to support our goals. We don’t have the time or inclination to argue with or explain our views to Obama thugs. If they want Obama for President, then they need to make it happen. They aren’t going to get anywhere with us, so that means they only come here to distrupt and insult. We don’t have to put up with it.

  138. Bostonboomer – What You Said!!! And thanks so much to you and katiebird for bringing me into this wonderful community. I, too, was disillusioned and astonished at all the hatred, misogyny and CDS I was seeing at my usual haunts.

I’m so glad I don’t have to put up with it here!

  139. Madamab,

I’m so grateful that you have joined us! I used to read your comments at Talk Left and thought you were so funny and wise. You have contributed immensely to this site.

One of the things I love so much about RD is her generosity of spirit. From the beginning, she has asked commenters to post and enabled us to feel that it is our blog too. She is the opposite of people like Obama, who can’t stand to share the glory. She knows that the rewards are so much greater when you are willing to share the credit.

  140. madamab, the cretins always throw the “you are hysterical and emotional, and it’s probably because you don’t get laid enough and no man wants you” card at women who are out of line and loudly disagreeing with them.

It’s nothing new. But it is sadder when it’s a woman doing it.

  141. Heh. I’m getting troll invasions at my blog too. I’m currently toying with one who is pretending to read my mind.

    Of course it’s wrong.

  142. Pat Johnson is correct–this is beyond elitism. Obama has entered the realm of derangement. Maybe I am reaching, but my sister and I thought some months ago that narcissism was the answer. My big concern if this is so—that this problem gets worse over time.

  143. BB – (bows in appreciation)

And you are so right: RD is one in a million.

  144. Before the primary began, Mark Warner was my candidate of choice for Pres. I saw him speak several times last year and was impressed and felt he was presidential material. However, I heard he chose not to run (supposedly) because of his family at the time and children were going to college, something like that and he felt they needed him. They put Obama in his place as a democratic candidate (even though a week before Obama himself professed he was not ready to be president). The idea, I think, was to run against Hillary who the DNC had already decided they did not want for president. When I heard Warner speak last night I was so sad, because he is smart, intelligent, accomplished, knows how to balance a budget, work across the aisles and has actually done so in VA, unlike Obama (my home senator) who has literally done nothing for any of his constituents in Chicago or Illinois. During the debates I became a Hillary supporter and volunteer for her campaign, because she stood head and shoulders above the rest of the candidates. I have often thought, if Warner had won the primary, rather than Obama, I would not feel so bad BECAUSE AT LEAST HE IS QUALIFIED. It would have possibly been an either-or, CLINTON or WARNER for me, but CLINTON or OBAMA, no way, no how, NO-OBAMA, ever!

  145. Will there be exploding volcanoes and scantily clad dancing girls when BO descends on Invesco Field?

  146. Sweetie: Sounds like a Stones concert.

  147. susan h.

I can’t agree with you here. If the DNC games and rigs the primary it doesn’t matter who the beneficiary is. In truth the Democratic principles have been surpressed by the Democratic Party and if God himself had been the ‘chosen one’ I would not have voted for him/her

  148. I heard a rumor that FOX is saying there is talk now of dismantling the temple and re-working the whole fiasco? BWAHAHAHAHA!!!

These people are such political babes in the woods. To dismantle it NOW, after the story has already broken about it, will only make Obama look weak and frightened. He ALREADY has a problem with being perceived as weak.

Obama keeps boxing himself into corners with his own hubris. Time after time, HE CREATES a situation where he has two choices:

    1) Stick it out and look like an arrogant asshole

    2) Back down and look like a scared ineffectual moron desperately scrambling to redefine himself.

I have been following politics for a loooong time. This guy is a piker. He and his minions have no idea how this war is fought. The Republicans are going to eat his liver with a nice bottle of Chianti.

  149. SweetieSue! – LOL! Maybe that will help drum up the enthusiasm!!!

Of course, it still won’t get him any votes, but his frat-boy supporters will enjoy the show!

  150. Time after time, HE CREATES a situation where he has two choices:

    1) Stick it out and look like an arrogant asshole

    2) Back down and look like a scared ineffectual moron desperately scrambling to redefine himself.

This would make for a delightful presidency.

  151. SweetieSue: I’m betting on a Huge gospel choir in robes, with some biggies like [insert Beyonce or other celebs] doing big ol solos while wiggling around. The celebs won’t be in robes, natch. Oh, and lots of brass instruments, held by big ol celeb names.

  152. Well, bless their hearts. Have they finally realized that the Temple of Barack complete with soothsayers could be last frickin straw???

  153. WMCB–I’ll supply the Fava beans :)

  154. No, no, no, they can’t tear down the Greek Temple of the Obama Coronation. It’s just not fair…….

  155. WMCB – Exactly! He ALWAYS has no one to blame but himself.

But I guess it will STILL be Hillary’s fault when he loses.

  156. Oy vay,what a f#*kin’ fiasco!

  157. Barky’s BOONDOGGLE!

  158. madamab, that dynamic I described is EXACTLY what he did with the VP pick. He boxed himself in by his treatment of Hillary, and could neither pick her nor not pick her without dire consequences.

  159. Now that I’ve heard about the Greek temple I really want to see it.

  160. BTW, it’s easy to see why Joe & Pat show more respect toward Hillary. As former politicians who’ve had to hustle for support & voters, I’ll bet they recognize the magic of Hillary with her supporter. How often does that truly come along?

They can see that much of the O adoration will be short-lived and shallow or that it is some people wanting a piece of hoped-for power. That ain’t magic.

  161. Somebody in Denver QUICK QUICK take a picture of the greek temple in case they tear it down. I want to see pictures of it splashed everywhere. Obama will be the laughingstock right out of the GE gate.

  162. darn, changed support to supporters, but didn’t add the ‘s’ Y’ll know what I mean.

  163. JulieS9164, on August 27th, 2008 at 12:01 pm Said:
    GREEK TEMPLE!!!

    BWAHAHHAAAA!!

This sounds worse than Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas.

Never having been to Vegas, the first thought that came to my mind was Spinal Tap’s “Stonehenge”.

LOLOLOL!!! OMG THIS is a satire moment on a budget.

  164. Oooh, SM77! Go to it girl!

  165. Thanks, madamab. We needed that. As my Republican sister said in June when I was exploding, “There’s a reason the Democratic symbol is what it is.” At least for the rest of this season, I’m a PUMA.

  166. The Greek Temple picture is up on Tennessee Guerilla Women! (Am I allowed to say that?)

  167. So who or what committee from the Obama campaign is responsible for these “marketing” ideas – meaning the Obama seal and now the Greek stage set for a tragedy? I really want to know who runs these ideas up the flag pole and everyone salutes them?!! It must be someone in power who everyone else in the BO campaign is afraid to criticize – bingo, Axelrod. But, hold the phone, I’m from Massachusetts and I didn’t see any of this grandeous packaging of the candidate when Axelrod ran Deval Patrick’s campaign. Hmmm, it’s a real puzzler.

  168. That “Stonehenge Moment “in spinal Tap is too precious – maybe I’ll get the you tube instead!

  169. Tearing down the Greek spectacle, can’t you just hear the O staff calling BOMO:

‘Everyone says we have to tear it down, says after Hillary last night, we need to get some class, whatever that is. What does school have to do with it?’

MO: ‘Well, whatever it is, just go ahead & buy it, don’t worry about the cost. We’ll get it from somebody…’

  170. How about a motion at convention to make the PUMA the new symbol for the Dem. Party!! Now that’s really taking back the party!

  171. madamab~
I am late to the party again. I am at work and just had a chance to read your post. It is
    excellent !

I have now become a source of concern to my family (yes, even my pro-Hillary mother) when I said that although the convention’s main speakers have been effective and persuasive, I am not voting for The Precious.

I am going to read your post to her and send it on to the rest of my family because you are waaaay more persuasive than any Democrat I’ve heard this week..

  172. Elixir – Hmmm, to whomever could you be referring? Could it be the person who refused to move her lips into a smile last night while Hillary was taking her and Barack to school?

    Golly gee…

I am dying laughing over this ridiculous stunt with the pillars. It’s probably meant to look like the White House, just like the Great Possum Seal was meant to look Presidential.

Unfortunately, a cheap imitation always shows its quality sooner or later.

  173. Oh, lawdy, the Greek God picture at TGA is just fabulous. Could the Democratic Party make itself an even bigger joke to the nation this year?

    I’m betting Yes!

  174. sm77,
can you please contact me at lwalsh at psych dot uic dot edu

I need to ask for some specific information.

    thank you…leslie

  175. Oh, thank you, leslie! Wow. That means a great deal to me.

I hope you can make them understand somehow, but if not, you own your vote and you don’t have to explain it to anyone! That’s the lesson I finally learned this year.

  176. Some Pictures to Get You in the Mood for Tonight…

    http://insightanalytical.wordpress.com/2008/08/27/some-pictures-to-get-you-in-the-mood-for-tonight/

Nice shot of the columns from… a Nuremberg rally.

    Gives me the chills…

    InsightAnalytical

  177. I keep hearing anti-Obama people – especially women – described as having “hurt feelings”. It has annoyed me from the first time I heard it because it implies that Obama has the POWER to hurt your feelings rather than you having the ability to feel righteous anger . “Hurt feelings” doesn’t just imply that what you are feeling is of no consequence, but makes it a petty emotion not to be taken seriously.

Never would “hurt feelings” be used against a man; it is strictly a sexist statement to show the second class status of women. I can almost hear the accompanying, “There, there now… I’ll buy you some flowers and you’ll feel all better.”

  178. August 27, 2008
The latest Gallup Poll Daily tracking average from Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday shows a race that is still close, with Barack Obama at 45% and John McCain at 44% among registered voters.

  179. What I think is interesting, I bet he finally gets his “bounce” in the polls from her speech.

I don’t think he will be able to hold onto those voters. He will open his mouth eventually and probably insult us or Hillary again.

  180. Good grief. Don’t his lackeys realize how silly this all looks? You’d think they would have learned from the pompous podium mistake. But, no, they’ve magnified it hundredfold. Yep, it’s change we can laugh at.

  181. Didn’t mean to make that a capital G on god, but really, this is all beginning to remind me of that old lawyer joke. The punch line, paraphrased to be current:

Oh, it’s God in there talking to himself; he thinks he’s Obama.

  182. The Democratic party will look back at this primary and feel ashamed. The delegates are voting in their hotel rooms.
    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0808/12885.html

  183. The Greek Temple of ZEUS!!!

    Obot: He’s so post-everything, now he’s post-country.

  184. Ok leslie

  185. It’s always a dilemma: it was fun laughing at the greek temple, but it also gave Obama time to change things.

  186. Karol: yes, well, we can’t think, you know. So, it’s always our ‘feeling.’

Ted Kennedy, of course, didn’t have ‘hurt feelings’ over Carter, he was just a powerful man with his own base that raised questions about Carter’s abilities.

Must have read that in some article writtten by some man, since, well, women can’t do logical analysis. At least, some man told me that……

  187. Downticket – WE MUST make them feel that shame to the very core of every atom in thier wretched cowardly bodies.

Our votes are not theirs for them to wipe their bottoms with.

  188. Fake Kim Alert!

  189. cbn: but now everyone, including media people, know that it was changed, and why, which only makes him look weaker, more indecisive, and more manufactured.

  190. check your email leslie

  191. He will start using some of Hillary`s lines in his own speeches. Just watch.

  192. Kim – The Nation. The supposedly liberal magazine that endorsed Obama?

Of course they’re going to try to make fun of us. We will see who has the last laugh, though.

    PUMA!!!

  193. Karol, that bothers me too. The decision to not support Obama is always portrayed as an emotional one. And there’s no way to explain it to the folks who do it because they just can’t see their own sexism. It’s too entrenched in their world view.

Yes, my decision to support Cynthia McKinney is heartfelt, unlike my (recent) past support of Democratic candidates. But that’s because I finally looked at things square on and stopped kidding myself that the Democratic Party represents me. My decision was hard, it was thoughtful and it was soul searching. To be dismissed as hysterical, or emotional, only proves to me that I’ve made the right choice.

  194. Oh, my god – Soledad O’Brian just asked a pundit panel on CNN if it was “bad form” for Bill not to attend Obama’ s great stadium rally for this history making event, given that Bill was called the “first black president” and it was MLK’s “I Have a Dream” speech anniversary. A bit of talk about that and she kept insisting on it and how it didn’t sit well. WTF. Jaw dropping.

  195. IMHO The Nation makes The Nation look like fools, I wouldn’t worry about it. They did nothing to hold Obama accountable and then discovered he would sell out progressives at the drop of a hat.

  196. Delegates voting at hotels ( Election Fraud Continues)

excerpt: Some delegates were confused because Sen. Clinton was not expected to release her delegates until the afternoon.

“It doesn’t make any sense to me,” said Mary Sullivan, a Clinton delegate from Albany, N.Y. “I’m gonna vote for Hillary. I’m a Clinton delegate and she hasn’t released me yet.”

Clinton is expected to address delegates this afternoon.

Sullivan said she had been startled by the hostility toward Clinton on the part of some Obama supporters.

    http://countusout.wordpress.com/

  197. EOF – REALLY? Oh, I hope it’s not fixed….I just can’t believe anything anymore until it actually happens!

  198. We said all along – he only knows how to cheat; that’s the one experience I give him credit for.

  199. Give me a break. If Bill were going to the stadium, they would accuse him of trying to steal the spotlight.

  200. gxm – You cannot reason with an Obot. That doesn’t mean you don’t have your reasons, it just means that the Obot is too stupid to understand them.

  201. parentofed: So true.

  202. They are going to cheat. I just hope that someone is recording it. This should be added to the documentary

  203. The Nation has been abusing Hillary for years.

    PUMA is in good company.

  204. From Fox:

Delegates at the Democratic National Convention are filling out their tally sheets Wednesday to be turned in quickly so the roll call for Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton can begin promptly at 5 p.m. ET.

  205. What are the odds Barack enters the ‘coliseum’ on a golden chariot, driven by white horses? A hysterical image, but not a surprising one.

  206. comment of the day from some rightwing blog

    “Arugula uber alles!”

  207. The Drudge Report has a picture of the stage Obama will use Thurs night with the faux colannade backdrop. It looks ridiculous, just like the fake presidential seal. What are they thinking?!

  208. And now, ladies and gentlemen, the moment you’ve all been waiting for. Barak Obama’s Temple of Personal Magnificence:

  209. He thinks he’s been crowned emperor. Good one, Elixir, that it’s really a Greek tragedy, complete with hubris. Dare we hope for deus ex machina and Hillary gets the nomination? “Pompous podium” is good too, gxm. A little alliteration brings to mind Pompeii… and visions of Barky & the DNC being overwhelmed by an eruption of unhappy disenfranchised voters.

I think Bill Clinton should start a new political party, ’cause I am soooo leaving the unDemocratic party.

  210. Troll off the starboard bow! John @ 1:31

  211. Magdalena is right about the black guy standing next to Washington State delegate Ann Price Mills, and abruptly says,”Let’s go” when she starts to question Obama experience.

Ann & Stephanie just immediately shut down.

Does anyone know who this guy is, or can you read all those buttons on his jacket?
    Anyone?

  212. My mom called while I was away at lunch and said that he was reconsidering the whole Invesco Field thing. I think she said he was also cancelling Bon Jovi. I thought I read that Kanye West and some other rappers were gonna perform.

  213. i just had a call from the democratic legislative campaign committee — i let him know that he called the wrong person because i was not sure that i was a “committed democrat”. he ultimately accused me of being a McCain supporter. he also did not understand what it means to drop off at the top of the ticket, which i suggested might be my plan. he then closed the conversation with some nasty remark — like when we lose thanks to people like you….

o man, i am mad. i called the dem legislative camp comm in DC –http://www.dlcc.org/contact

i have to say the woman who answered the phone was very nice to me and understanding. i told her that they had better keep these folks on script and that they can kiss my a$$ (i apologized to her for my language). she said she understood and that they have had complaints and that they really need to do something about this.

wow. she could have made it sound like an isolated incident.

like i should have to explain myself to some guy from the dem party while sitting in my own home or anywhere.

BTW the “telemarketer” claimed that he too was a Hillary supporter — I am guessing that’s BS.

maybe the greek stage is appropriate for this tragedy.

  214. What blows my mind is, re the Invesco field thing and giant fake White House temple whatever, why did they not see this train wreck coming??? Come on, now, which of us here didn’t hear about the backdrop and think immediately of the Great Seal of Obama and realize how absurd this was going to look?

  215. Another video, this time in honor of BIG DAWG! Woooof!

This is our theme song for tonight’s speech:

  216. IMHO the DNC podium already looks like a setup for Kanye’s “Glow in the Dark” tour, he might as well perform there. (I love Kanye, I hope they don’t cancel his performance.. that I would gladly watch.)

  217. John, I’m a McKinney supporter. Her ticket is the ONLY all women of color ticket in this election. Get educated. Obama is unlikeable because of the man he is (or isn’t). His race has nothing to do with his lack of support here.

  218. John, despite what the MSM regurgitates, not all black voters adhere to “The One”. (waving my black hands to John) “Top of the mornin’!” :)

  219. I know my Messiah is going to lose. Hold me!

[comment edited for the Administrator's pleasure]

  220. Julles, I love calling it Barack Obama’s Grand Temple of Personal Magnificence!

    LMAO!!!

  221. “Then again, I may be wrong…”

Well, considering your BO support, I’d say that’s an affirmative.

  222. John, thanks for dropping by to insult us. As per usual from the Obama side, the insults will continue until unity is achieved, right?

  223. Thanks, WMCB! And I love the Bill song.

  224. John, it’s not very intelligent to accuse someone of being a racist because they don’t support your candidate. It would be like me calling you a sexist racist because you don’t support my candidate. There are plenty of reasons that Obama is a terrible candidate, none of which has anything to do with his skin color.

  225. dg – I honestly don’t know how they find the time. Has the throne been polished, per “His” requests and standards? Lots of theater to be created and, yet, so little time.

  226. John has the usual Obama approach down pat:

*SMACK!* You’d better come back here!
*SMACK!* How dare you walk away from me!

For all the Obamabots who seem to be so “hung up” on Hillary supporters, here is your new theme song:

  227. I love the administrative editing. You guys are cracking me up!

  228. Maria Garcia – I got the idea from katiebird! She and BB are the BOMB. :-)

  229. I missed it! Which one did you do, madamab?

  230. Blah, blah Logicsound my a$$! Begging us after saying we’re emotional and angry? We will regret 4 years of McCain more than any of us are considering? Damn shame we’re all so stupid that we haven’t considered that.

Sorry dearie, I make my decisions based on information and a love of Democracy. And I don’t see that in an Obama administration. Not in a McCain one either.

What I saw was a totally corrupt Democratic Party force “their” choice down our throats. What I saw was a totally corrupt Media force “their” choice down our throats. And what I saw was some of the ugliest misogyny it has been my misfortune to see coming from other so-called liberals.

Beg on sweetie. I own my vote. And it ain’t gonna go to a thug from Chicago that exemplifies all I hate in politicians.

  231. KB – John @ 1:45 pm. (blush)

  232. Oh, VERY good! :)

  233. KB – I learned from the master! Uh, mistress? :-)

  234. Karol, on August 27th, 2008 at 1:01 pm Said:

yes it grates but it is theirs to own.

  235. Madamab,

Thank you for summing up exactly how I feel. It resonates with me, and I think it captures the intelligence of PUMAs.

Principles are nontransferable… you nailed it.

    Thanks!

  236. Mark Warner concerns me. I feel like he may run in 2012, but I doubt that he could beat Hillary.

    What does everyone think?

  237. I think Warner would make a great VP on Hillary’s 2012 ticket. :)

  238. I in NJ, so I just called the New Jersey dems. (thanks for the info Regency) I let them know that if the delegation persisted in voting for Obama, I will vote, contribute and campaign for MC and ALL the other Reps in November. And I can believe it myself, but I meant it and will do it!
They were curtious and said they would pass the message on. I guess I was not the only one to have done so since this morning

  239. Republican4Obama: You seem to have more sense than all these supposed dems. Spread the word about McCain’s opposition not only to abortion, but to birth control. Thanks!

  240. I just can not believe this. You all sound like a bunch of children. “My team didn’t win so I’m taking my ball and going home!” Get over it! Hillary lost. She accepted it (finally). Why can’t you?!

I love how everyone on here keeps talking about her strength and passion and how they respect her but don’t seem to be able to list one thing she stands for.

What I see here is a bunch of people who’s champion for the sisterhood lost and they can’t stand that and they also can’t come out and say that even if Hillary had never ran, that they would never have supported Oboma due to something he lacks (see proper skin color, their version of proper Christian upbringing, and supposed ideas on what a middle class person is supposed to be like). This is all a very thin disguise for some form of bigotry or another. The proof is that many of you are willing to vote for McCain who stands for the exact opposite of what Hillary supposedly stands for. This shows that the “issues” never were the issue for you.

  241. gxm, me too. i just hope he doesn’t take the nomination away from hillary in 2012 — but like i said in my previous post, i’m not too sure he could

  242. Violator. Nope. That’s what YOU sound like.

I can accept that Obama is the nominee. And you’ll just need to accept that Cynthia McKinney is now my candidate.

You see, I don’t have to support Obama just because he’s the Dem nominee. That’s not how a democracy works.

  243. BrynMawPuma, I agree. I don’t think he could take it from Hillary. And hopefully the DNC will have wised up and won’t try to shut her out again.

  244. Let me say it once again. RepublicanForObama and Stacy, The reality is that Republicans have been in the White House for 20 of the past 28 years. So stop with the scare tactics. It’s really quite ugly behavior. It reminds me of the Bush terror alerts of 2004. Stop with the fear mongering already. Your face is gonna get stuck like that!

  245. gxm, the FACT is that we’re holding on by the skin of our teeth to our rights. If you don’t think these Republican presidents and their Supreme Court appointees have made a difference, just look to the 2000 election. Stevens, 88, Ginsberg, 75, and Breyer, 70, can’t hold out forever.

republican4obama, I agree with you 100%. And it’s not just about choice; for me, it’s also about protecting the environment. While I think Hillary would have been better on that score as well, Obama is better than McCain…and our only viable option.

  246. Hillary Clinton is a great woman, a great politician, and a great leader.

However, the fact that she was not nominated has nothing to do with misogyny.

Doesn’t it strke any of you as somewhat contradictory that you sit here complaining that so many Obama supporters play the “race card” while you simultaneously play the “sexism card”?

[anxiously awaiting my un-approved post to be deleted by the moderator]

  247. AcronymsRus, that might require some honor and humility, of which this group has none.

I am noticing only a handful of regulars post here…sad but so telling.

  248. What are your values? What do you believe in? Your vote is your vote, but it seems to me that a vote for McCain screams that the issues have never been central to your beliefs. Was Hillary nothing more than a figurehead, whose words meant nothing, whose desires meant nothing? Do you even care what she believes?

You’re going to play your games, chuckle while soldiers die (for Hillary!), dance while our country loses all standing in the civilized world (for Hillary!), teach everyone a lesson while families who can’t afford food eat ramen noodles for the 12th night in a row (for Hillary!). Who cares that economists and scientists say that drastic changes MUST be made NOW to prevent irreversible global warming, to prevent Africa from becoming the next China, to keep us off the slippery slope whose top we’re currently gripping with the last tiny phalange of our pinky finger?

We’re mad, and we’ll take this thing as far as we can. Because we don’t care about Hillary’s cares, we don’t want what Hillary wants… we want Hillary, and all of those goals and aspirations of hers are secondary.

Rome might well be burning. But if Hillary’s not the one handing me the bucket of water, I think I’ll just take my fiddle and go sit over there, thank you very much.

  249. Mike: So well said!

Reality Bites: I hope it’s true that there are only a few supporters of this terribly misguided movement. The fact that there are any at all is chilling…

  250. I would like to say to everyone I respect whatever you decide to do. I’m an Independent and I’m a little more conservative so this is a no brainer for me. I’m proudly supporting McCain/Palin! I hope all of you will take another look at McCain, he’s really close to a Democrat, that’s why his Party hates him. It’s also one of the big reasons he chose Palin, she’s a Republican! The base is so fired up now! Anyway, she’s also a maverick and a Washington outsider. She’s fought corruption even within her own Party and she’s worked across Party lines. She’s basically everything Obama pretends to be! She is conservative however, so I get it if you can’t support McCain! I would like to say, even when I supported Hillary I had a hard time choosing between her and McCain! I also know McCain is not Bush! These are the Democrats’ talking points, that’s it! Don’t forget John Kerry asked McCain to be his running mate in 2004! Joe Biden said he would be honored to run with McCain! Plus, we all know Hillary and McCain are friends! If Obama wins, there probably won’t be another chance for Hillary in 8 years-she’ll have ageism and sexism to deal with if she still wants to run anyway! She’s saying what she has to say, but I think secretly she wants McCain to win! Why don’t we let her and Sarah Palin battle it out in 4 years! McCain and Palin will never do what Obama’s about to do to our Country! He needs to be STOPPED! Think about it anyway!
    McCain/Palin 08!! “Reforming Washington”!
