Last night was quite an evening at the PUMA HQ. We gathered to watch Hillary give her speech, and in my opinion it was one of the most powerful ones she has given. This was the speech that our Democratic nominee was meant to have given. I just wanted to share the reaction of the viewers from HQ. First of all there was this touching moment when Bill mouthed “I love you” to Hillary as she was set to begin:
The other thing that struck me was the message that Hillary seemed to be sending to the PUMAs. I think Carville’s wearing the PUMAs the other day was just the first signal that they are with us. Second was Hillary wearing the bright orange pantsuit, which of course was the PUMA action color of the day, and the color that all of us were wearing. Then her reference to Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad. She told us to never give up, despite the ridicule and persecution. To top it all off, she actually referenced a post written by RD called The Sisterhood of the travelling pantsuit (listen for RD’s scream in the background).

Louisville station WHAS has video of KY delegates in Denver & quotes a Clinton delegate who lives a few towns down. He says he’s not sure what he’s going to do, either in Denver or Nov, but the folks back in KY voted for Hillary & he’s there to represent them. Thank God somebody remembered.
And so, a huge shout out to young Tyler Murphy, a highly intelligent & ethical young man. And to alternate Joyce Lemaster if she’s there, who taught me Appy Lit in college. Both of these delegates were part of the suit against the KDP trying to mess with Clinton delegates. I’m so proud.

OT but interesting to note. There were candidates in Florida that I saw using Sen. Clinton in their commercials and mailings. One was State Sen. Eleanor Sobel and one was Broward County Commissioner John Rodstrom. Despite both having multiple democratic opponants in the primary, both have tentatively won. Rodstrom by 1% or so margin and Eleanor Sobel by 35% to 32% for her closest opponant. What is more telling is that one of the challengers for Commissioner Rodstrom was a strong Obama supporter Bryan Caletka. Well he ended up at the bottom of the field with 20% of the vote. Congratulations to both State Senator Sobel and Commissioner Rodstrom, see you both in the GE.

I am a Democrat who will vote for John McCain this year with no doubt in my mind I have made the correct decision. Do I agree with John McCain on all his policies? No, I don’t. But somehow this year I can’t get very excited about differences in policy when the glaring differences in integrity , honor, courage and loyalty keep staring me in the face.
Here is a little history for you. The Irish catholic part of Ireland is represented by the colors green, gold and white. The Irish protestants colors are green, orange and white. I do not think your theory of orange being a protest color is real history.

Many reasons were cited for Gore’s loss in 2000. One factor was of course Nader. But Nader alone could not have broken that camel’s back. Half the country voted for the other guy – twice – and the Dems still haven’t gotten their shit together. Likewise, PUMA is just one of many players. The people who make up PUMA existed long before this summer, and will continue to live on for the next 20-40-60 years, even if the organization does not. 40 years ago the “hippies” got pissed and made great sacrifices to bring about change. I believed Hillary – my whole family believed Hillary -was the best candidate. Obama brings nothing to the table – I don’t understand why electing a woman would be less “transformational” for this political party?
Will I vote for McCain? Probably not, but how can I vote for a man with no credentials to be president, who’s campaign wanted to crush his rival? Their tactics, their attitude and their smugness (his smugness) just lost me from the start.
Their campaign clearly points to the fact that they just had this childlike (fratboy) need to “win” – with no thought to what was best for the party, their futures, the country or the long-term impact this election will have on the world in general. Or was it the fine hand of Karl at work again as he got Kerry nominated?
Make fun of the “old ladies” if you will, but at least they understand that that there are future generations that suffer or benefit from our actions and give serious thought before acting.
