Hillary Web-Chat Open Thread

I don’t have a whole lot to say.  I can tell you I have butterflies in my stomach about what Hillary is going to say.  I think that regardless of

Senator Hillary Clinton

Senator Hillary Clinton

whether she tries to push unity on us or she goes in another direction, our mission remains clear.  To have an open and transparent convention that reflects the will of the more than 36 million Americans who participated in the Democratic primaries.  I think we also need to keep in mind that Obama’s decision to return full voting status to delegates from Michagan and Florida does not make up for the fact that the RBC stole delegates from the uncommitted voters, as well as all write in votes, AND 4 of Hillary’s delegates.  Until that travesty is corrected the votes of those delegates can not be considered legitimate.

While we wait, here’s a little nostalgia for you from Bill Clinton’s Inaugural party:

Let’s hope its not the last Clinton Inaugural!

It can’t be much worse than anything else we’ve seen this year. Can it?

  2. katiebird: We keep saying that and then another “surprise” rears up. Like a Neverending Story.

  3. Pat, mister has a theory that when things get bad, they just get worse. So you aren’t saying anything new to me.

  4. I don’t know if it is a Live webchat or not…On the one hand it says that you should be logged in. On the other it gives you a form to submit questions.
My guess is that they will be mixing both (?). Take a look, just in case
create an account if you don’t have one already!

    http://blog.hillaryclinton.com/blog/main/2008/08/06/225553

  5. I pray she doesn’t start asking us to support Bambi cuz it ain’t happening!

  6. How are you, Gary?? Yeah, I’m nervous too!

I have a pre-PUMA friend in Boston at work, waiting for the scoop on Hillary.

  7. I’m nervous…I hope she doesn’t tell us to stop…not that it would stop us but it would hurt me…

  8. I have my Judy Garland and Barry Manilow playing just to shut out the campaign “noise” and try to not anticipate the noon hour. An escape.

  9. Hey guys, I have a meeting RIGHT when the webchat starts; thanks to any of you who can give a “picture” of what happened.

Please, Hillary. Let your voters be heard.

  10. Ooh, thanks for that video. Didn’t realise that Fleetwood Mac played LIVE at Bill C’s inaugural!

I’m nervous as hell with everyone else about this webchat!

    Send your questions in, folks!

  11. Off topic but I need help.
This AM I had a strange call on my landline from a man who said he was trying to contact a man who had the unusual last name of one of my daughters in law who lives in another state. I reverse checked his number and found eventually that the man’s number is a landline located in the Amherst, NY area. No one in my family knows anyone in that area. I cannot get the man’s name and address without paying for it. Does anyone have that service already who would look up this info incase something weird happens at my home.
    I’m a bit player, I know, but I don’t put anything past BO’s bots.

  12. Did anyone submit a question? Here’s mine:

I was a Democrat until I switched to no party in June, because I believe voters, not superdelegates, should choose the Democratic nominee. What can be done to change the primary rules to make it winner take all and to get rid of the caucuses?

  13. atypical. Libraries have directories that sometimes includes non-published numbers. You could call the Library in Amherst and ask if they’d look it up for you.

  14. The chat is starting.

  15. I SEE NOTHING and hear nothing

  16. It’s a text chat?

  17. are we supposed to be at the “Web Chat with Hillary” page?

  18. What does this mean:

“Please watch her short message and join us tomorrow at http://blog.hillaryclinton.com.

I’m looking at the page but don’t see or hear a chat in progress.

  19. They need PUMA and NO QTR Radio!! :-)

  20. it looks like its a text chat, but I could be wrong…

  21. she hasn’t said anything yet….

  22. Thanks Gary!

  23. We’re waiting ……..

  24. It’s up. Her opening statement is depressing … unity shmoonity.

  25. I am on the chat and all mu comments are being deleted before they see the light of day- very disappointing

  26. Anyone expecting less than Unity might want to view the chat secondhand.

  27. I cannot get a comment through either. Am I doing something wrong?

  28. It looks like a text chat to me as well. But, it hasn’t started yet. The moderator said to keep refreshing the page so that’s what I’ve been doing and it’s yet to start.

  29. What do we do? I can’t hear or see anything.

  30. I was expecting some web video, but I guess that was wrong…

  31. I think the moderator’s being overwhelming with comments. If your comment didn’t make it that probably means, they haven’t gotten to to it or someone else has already said the same thing.

  32. Ok – is it me but I’M CONFUSED – is it a chat or a video chat? All I see are people commenting – I sent in a question – but I didn’t log in (forgot my password ) so I went through the other link (non log in).

  33. let’s ask Hillary questions…I just hope they post them…

  34. I’m listening to a McCain town hall while I’m refreshing Hillary’s chat.

  35. *overwhelmed*

  36. Sad- so sad- I have submitted three comments- all scrubbed before ever hitting the page {sigh}

  37. Gary’s link worked for me. I keep refreshing the page. Comments are appearing at the bottom of the screen.

  38. I am not finding anything —- I am as confused as SM — WTF –

  39. ok an innocuous hi this is one of your Pa supporters made it through

  40. what do pple think? Maybe she’s announcing the debt is retired?

  41. They seem to only be putting up positive comments about missing Hillary

Nothing of real substance. More of a feel good chat.
I want to know if SHE was asked for HER birth certificate upon running for office. And why no one will cover all of the underlying stories about BHO. Some seemingly very legitimate.

  42. Where are her repsonses??

  43. There are to ways to communicate.

You can click the ” Click here to ask me question ” and it takes you to a submission form.

But, you can Comment to the post — by clicking on the “[Reply to Post]”

I’m assuming that the “ask question” form doesn’t result in published questions. And that the Comment link does publish questions.

  44. this is the link I am using

I’m assuming it is the correct one.

  45. HERE WE GO !! REFRESH OFTEN

  46. “Until that travesty is corrected the votes of those delegates can not be considered legitimate.”

Yes, this must continue to be emphasized as the reason that a roll call vote, even one with Sen. Clinton in nomination, will not suddenly make this primary legitimate and the reason that many of us will never support Obama. Sen. Clinton should be urged by us to appeal that ruling, as a matter of principle. Seems unlikely, though, at this point.

  47. Not so far as I can tell.

  48. Ok, HRC started to answer questions in text.

  49. This is real slow… Only 1 question so far?

  50. apparently they’re taking no questions about barry

  51. I think Hillary should keep her answer(s) short in order to get this thing moving!

  52. she just answered a question…she’s going to campaign for him in NV tomorrow…I think this is going to be standard unity schtick unfortunately….

  53. looks like Clinton’s responses are at the top of the page… very strange setup…

  54. If she starts answering questions with that much detail, we will be here until much later.

  55. New hampster got one on! calling for her name in nomination! YEA! new Hampster!

  56. where were they taking questions last night? I missed that one.

  57. I’ve made 3 comments

    none have showed up

(they must not like my questions)

  58. my question didn’t go through, I think because I asked what she thinks we can do about all the vitriol aimed at her and us by other Democrats….

  59. garyCH: yep… nothing of substance regarding the current political situation and convention. She already pre-emted thes equestions in her text above saying “things are still not resolved” and that they are “working together to have people’s voices herad”…Whatever. I think he rname will not be on the ballot and that they arelooking for alternative ways of
“having people heard”… Empty acts of recognition of her and her supporters.

  60. I wonder if her answers have not already been done in advance.

  61. Nothing is happening… One question so far ?? WTH ?

  62. Seems like this is prepared text. I agree with Pat above.

  63. I see only 1 Q answer at this time and I logged. My Q didn’t get posted either. I think they are scrubbing Q and are only going to post the ones that go along with the meme.

  64. This is posted on the Hillary chat page- could explain why questions are not appearing yet:

Editor’s Note: Please continue to refresh the page to see all the latest questions and answers. We are experiencing high traffic and receiving lots of great questions! It may take some time for your comment to appear. Please do not re-post your comment.

Editor’s Update: We started taking questions last night.

  65. I don’t really think this is live from Hillary’s end. The answer she gave is quite long. She can’t read and comment at the same time. We could be here until Denver.

  66. Mawm got a statement in…

  67. Pat, I was thinking the same thing…seems pretty canned. I’m disappointed….don’t think anything big is going to come out of this.

  68. I would like to know if she will accept the nomination if a floor fight nominates her.

  69. for those of you who’s comment isn’t showing, they must be overwhelmed…

It may take some time for your comment to appear. Please do not re-post your comment.

  70. Ugh! She actually called him President Obama.

  71. It may be just an attempt to see how much support she still has and the concerns that still resonate with us so she can come properly armed into Denver for a floor fight. At least I wish.

  72. Remember what Paul said last night. This is about numbers. Keep asking when she is going to unsuspend her campaign and put in for nomination. She needs to know the numbers

  73. I don’t understand why she has to do this unity thing now. No other primary opponent has needed to do this before an actual convention. WTH can’t she fight at the convention? Is it money? Is it delegates telling her they no longer support her?

Every other primary candidate has been allowed to fight until the convention acceptance speech; why can’t she?

  74. I agree, Pat, I don’t think this is live from HRC’s end. And, for the reason you gave.

  75. “Working with President Obama”…. How disappointing…This is not for her supporters; this is for the Obama campaign.!! A waste of time imo.

  76. Go janfromMN!

    roll call nomination
Why is the media and the DNC all upset about having your name placed into nomination next to Barack Obama. Isn’t this standard convention procedure? We do need to have our voices heard and we’ve felt ignored by the DNC since the beginning of this primary battle. There is no way the DNC can unify the party without having your name placed in nomination and letting us feel that there is some sense of fairness to this election. Right now, we feel like our candidate has been treated very unfairly and we demand some respect!

by janfromMN at 8/7/2008 12:10:05 PM

  77. Is she being held hostage somewhere with a gun to her head? President Obama?????????? I am going back to my vacuuming. Love Hillary, but I ain’t buying.

  78. Pat Johnson: The moderator said “questoins came in last night”; the questions, all two of them, seem to be very generic – such as “what are your goals?” I think it’s also pretty clear this is not a Live Web Chat. I’ve asked two questions – they’ve not shown up.

  79. question 2 is up… more unity/schmuity…

this is a very odd format…

  80. Question #2: What goals do you have for yourself during the next four years both professionally and personally? – Carole

Answer: My goals include being the best Senator I can be, and to go on fighting every day for the issues I care about, helping America’s working families, and ensuring a better future for every child. I believe in the next fours years, we must ensure every American has healthcare, and our economy once again works for Middle Class families. As the war in Iraq comes to an end, we must restore America’s relations with our allies and our leadership around the world. I will continue to be an advocate for our troops and our veterans.

I look forward to working with President Obama on these important challenges, working to rebuild a government that once again works for the people, follows the rule of law and respects the constitution.

    Mountain Sage

  81. Canned and disappointing it is. However, at least there are no horrifying announcements,

  82. I think she wants to know what her supporters are thinking about. She hasn’t been able to talk to people face to face in a couple of months now.

    Just IMO.

  83. “I look forward to working with President Obama on these important challenges, working to rebuild a government that once again works for the people, follows the rule of law and respects the constitution.”

Uggggh. that’s an strange statement. What rule of law does Oblahblah suscribe to?

  84. Gary … I’ll just read your summary later. My heart is just sinking reading her responses.

But I guess she just has to go through the motions for now. Bring on the floor fight in Denver!

  85. Will she work with President McCain?!

  86. I’m not expecting much… prolley a whole lotta unity and brother, can you spare a dime…

this is not Hillary’s forte… I always expect substantive from Hil… the format isn’t allowing it…

  87. They may as well have asked us to fax our questions as this format is not doing it for me. Her answers appear to be taken from her stump speeches with the exception of “President Obama”. Ughhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!

  88. I’m disappointed – I rearranged my schedule so I could attend this web chat – I thought it would be live. I don’t think Hillary is there answering questions; I think her staff is answering them; possibly, they r even posing the questions.

  89. Eleven people so far have asked her to address the possibility of being nominated.

  90. I can’t find mawm’s comment, was it deleted? i saw one that was deleted by the moderator, but responses to it all agreed…was something about puttting her up for nom

  91. parentofed: exactly. What is going on in the DNC that she has to do this?

  92. I’m not disappointed because I had no expectations. This is the same woman who was on Wolf Blitzer yesterday. She has a role to play. Expect her to play it up until she no longer has to.

Once again, a lot of people are expecting some sign from Hillary on what to do next. Chances are there isn’t one. You have to decide what your next bold move is and stick with it, regardless of what she says. If you let your drive be dictated by her actions, you’ll be forever depressed or uninspired. Pick a path–that’s your path.

  93. Got a feeling this is just a “cut and paste” answer sheet.

  94. I think she has to address the PUMA movement.

  95. AAAGGGGRRRRR; this is insulting; really. What a gigantic waste of time…. I am pissed (sorry).

  96. Mawm’s comment is still there. Just do a Control-F search at the page.

  97. Pat, I was also vacuuming & nervously sat here to listen. I don’t know what this means, but this is not an announcement to un-suspend her campaign. That’s what this party needs right now, not this Republican worship-Bush PR of a mock convention.

Why is the DNC pretending to be the RNC?

  98. I think THIS is a CHANGE THE SUBJECT chat!

I asked her if anyone ever asked HER FOR A BIRTH CERTIFICATE before she ran for office?

AND how she felt about all of this underlying innuendo flying around the net that the MSM doesn’t seem to want to cover.

Guess I’ll be getting snow cones here in hell first huh?

  99. No waste of time here–I’m listening to music and eating breakfast.

  100. I saw Mawm’s comment (can’t find it now) – it was stuck in as a reply to something else… not too far from the top…

  101. Parent: They’re not pretending.

  102. 30 minutes into this thing and only 2 answers…pony express could deliver a faster response…I too smell something rotten.

  103. Do you think that she was made by the obogwat to do this and slap us in the face? Who was that frigging Paul guy last night? Maybe Mawm was right—a faux enthusiast?

  104. regency: I could agree with your thesis except there are so many pacs working on her behalf, like the Denver Group as an example, who either know already what she desires, or people like us who have been hoping and praying on her behalf to make some corrections to the huge errors made by the DNC.

She may not “owe” us in the traditional sense of the word but if people are knocking themselves out for her then they deserve at least some consideration that it is either welcomed or not. Some subtle hint might work.

  105. I just wanted to recommend this great site I found several weeks ago again. The blogger is a French citizen for HIllary:
    http://hillary.meilleur.choix.qu-obama.over-blog.com/
She write her posts in French and in English. Check it out.

  106. Thirteen questions so far about nomination.

  107. 2 questions in 32 minutes? C’on people stop insulting us…..

Someone should email them not pull a similar stunt on us EVER again.

  108. “roll call nomination
Why is the media and the DNC all upset about having your name placed into nomination next to Barack Obama. Isn’t this standard convention procedure? We do need to have our voices heard and we’ve felt ignored by the DNC since the beginning of this primary battle. Right now, we feel like our candidate has been treated very unfairly and we demand some respect!

by janfromMN at 8/7/2008 12:10:05 PM”

Hate to keep harping on this, but just putting Sen. Clinton’s name in nomination without appealing the fraudulent RBC ruling of May 31, will not suddenly bring a sense of fairness to this election.

  109. I think the answers are genuine, because they’re taking so long, but the questions they’re picking are innocuous.

I have no idea why, but I have so much peace of mind it’s unsettling.

  110. I really didn’t expect her to use this venue to make a big announcement of some kind.

    Mountain Sage

  111. She says unity, but her answers sound like she’s
running for President again. She’s reinserting her main campaign themes into the public consciousness…
It is hard to be patient, but she must do this gradually. Unsuspending her campaign must seem like the result of overwhelming public pressure.
So let’s keep sending our irresistible messages her way!

  112. Regency: I agree with your theory. Good advice and it’s how I live my life. I have no “expectations” of Hillary. But, you don’t send out an email to all of your members, tell them there is a web chat the next day; please attend; and then nothing is there, Perhaps it is so that the DNC is playing games with her. BUT, her people on the other end should at least be answering some of the questions that are posed. Gosh – that isn’t asking too much.

  113. Many are asking about the status of the campaign debt. I hope she answers one of those questions.

  114. lyn5:
I’ll bet Hill could work with a President McCain a whole lot easier than an Imperial Holy Emperor Messiah President Obama. Can you imagine the arrogance & condescension if that ‘it’s all about me’ twit somehow became president? You wouldn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

  115. 3rd response is up!

  116. Harvesting emails?

  117. Pat – I agree, she must be being held hostage. The Ninja PUMAs will have to perform an extraction. Someone put them on red alert. Scramble fighters. Go on my mark…

    Mark!

  118. Mary Lou is right. Keep the nomination questions coming. Nineteen so far.

  119. Mike Marks: It’s not fair, okay. It’s not gonna suddenly become fair. We’re trying to mitigate the outcome by giving the idiots in charge one last chance to undo the damage. That’s what we’ve got.

Pat J: A hint for us is a hint the OFB is going to run with. I don’t believe in blind faith, but I do believe in practicality.

Rod: It’s a chat, plain and simple. It’s not what we thought it would be, but a complete lack of response altogether would constitute a stunt. This is just antiquated. Blogs aren’t set up for this sort of thing. Peter Daou would know what to do.

  120. gary – look for Mawm’s about 2/3rds of the way down… right under a post, “Not the same”

  121. She mentions “President Obama”. What a nice ring to it!

Mommy is telling the children that she is campaigning for Obama in Nevada today, but the kids have ADD and won’t listen. You really have to be a major fool at this point to think that Hillary has any chance to be the nominee.

  122. parentofed, I totally agree with you!

  123. Burt: You’re already a major fool for thinking Obama has any chance to be the president.

There’s no accounting for taste though.

  124. It appears she answering questions from the blog as well as questions that were submitted by email.

  125. Seems like she’s answering them in order. If she’s typing this herseslf, she might be hunting and pecking.

  126. Burt: yes, it sounds close to how an “President Odinga” would sound like (and will never happen democratically) you know, his murderous cousin back in Kenya.

  127. burt: We are not “the kids”. We are free thinking Democrats who have watched our party and our nominee snatched out from under us by a bunch of ego driven, corrupt politicians whose agenda is up for grabs. Just go do yourself a favor and just slither back to the Obama website and watch for another “scrubbing” of his Latest Backtrack Of the Day.

  128. Has anyone besides today ever heard Hillary refer to Obama as President?

  129. regencyg – you make me smile! I’d bet Hillary can type at a pretty good clip… women our age were all required to take typing (while the boys took shop) in school…

  130. Vive: Never, and I hope to never again.

  131. Any typo she makes will be turned into a major scandal by the media.

  132. Burt: Have you read the polls lately? You can go to Rasmussen, Politico, or a variety of others. Didn’t you know that the Dem candidate should be much further ahead than this in early polling? Go to Rasmussen for starters, K?

  133. Hillary sounds a little irritated at the VP questions.

  134. Hey burt – earnie is looking for you over at Sesame Street!

    PUMA HAKA

  135. This does tell me one thing: they require serious disavowal from Hillary, so the Obama/DNC cabal must be awfully unhappy about Hillary & her supporters. The harder we hit them, the harder they hit her. For a handful of people who don’t matter, we are having an impact.

  136. She is not commenting on the VP process!

  137. Is anyone else tearing up, besides me?

  138. Pat: makes you wonder.

  139. Twenty-nine nomination questions now.

  140. “I have said repeatedly that I will do whatever Senator Obama asks me to do.”

That’s just too much for me this morning. I had to get out of there.

    =(

  141. Kim: Disappointment is what I am feeling. Her answers are pretty generic.

  142. I gotta ask, that might not have been Hillary. That said, that last response was very Hillary. Could have been Huma, I imagine. She’s been around our gal long enough to know what she sounds like.

  143. Are there more than the 3 answers in the body of the post?

  144. parentofed: Stop frontin’ you deadender. Burt, knows what he’s talking about.

…I’m just messin with you man!

Burt, your daddy’s callin- run along now.

  145. OK now that kind of upsets me. She just left herself open there didn’t she? Will she still be able to say “NO” if Obamwa asks her to be VP now?

  146. burt – maybe BO could ear mark some of those “piles of cash” over to the slums he thinks he is leaving behind in Illinois. This would be good as he used the designated money on his felon friend Tony.

  147. Question #4 is a plug from the Obama campaign or one of his supporters ….. Dreadful…
I hope she reads the encouriging comments. That is what it’s important here. I do not believe she can say anything but extremly PC stuff.
    Keep encouraging her !!

  148. katie – not that I can see…

  149. Kim, I feel the same way. AND I LET THEM KNOW.

  150. This is a half effort after a major email blast yesterday, with vanilla answers.
I can’t help but believe it is by design.
Hillary seems to be tacitly complying with a request to address her supporters.

  151. katiebird: Not so far.

  152. I agree Regencyg….the last response definitely sounds like Hillary.

  153. Hillary has to be irritated when people repeatedly ask her questions she can’t or won’t answer–and has said she can’t or won’t answer.

  154. Pat and Beadfulheart – Yup – that’s what I said earlier – disappointment. But, now I am feeling what Regency said – not to have expectations and perhaps this is a “showing” (so to speak) for the DNC; i.e., she’s doing all she can to show how hard she’s working for BO. Otherwise, it’s getting kind of sickening and hard to swallow at this point.

We need her back; we need her as President. In case Burt is still here (unless Bert and Ernie program is still on), I will never, ever vote for Barack Obama for Prez. I’ve been voting much longer than you’ve been alive – I only vote for QUALIFIED people to run this country. (My emotions have come up again – how in the world did that troll get in here?)

  155. Regencyg:

I disagree. What we’ve got is an opportunity to marginally increase the fairness and transparency of the nominating process by appealing the RBC decision. That’s why I’m trying to encourage it.

    Thanks for the comment.

  156. “Hillary seems to be tacitly complying with a request to address her supporters.”

I agree! Yesterday, she said on CNN she was doing everything she could to get him elected. This is just another thing she can point to and say, look I tried my best.

But I’m with Gary, this really isn’t about her but about the process and not just respect for her but for everyone of us who supported her and have been treated poorly.

  157. Gotta say for the VP question: He’s not asked me and I really I don’t care if he does. That’s what I got out of that.

  158. Trolls are like nasty little insects, no matter how hard you try to keep them out they manage to find a way in. They are interested because they need to see for themselves where the commitment is coming from and how strong it is out here. I have only once gone into an Obama site because there is nothing there of interest. These trolls would pay to get in here if that is what it took.

Reading comments on this and other like minded blogs contains intelligent observations and serious thought. It gets pretty boring reading their comments which basically boil down to “your candidate is a bitch”. Little effort or cerebral thinking there.

  159. I agree! Yesterday, she said on CNN she was doing everything she could to get him elected. This is just another thing she can point to and say, look I tried my best.

    That’s what I meant…it’s a show and tell event.
No major announcements…no strong plea for unity either so far.

  160. Burt: Leave now.

  161. I don’t think she is answering these questions. This is another attempt at the unity pony and I am not buying it.

  162. It’s a cumbersome process and practically impossible to really “chat.” But it’s great that HRC is doing this, it shows her political smarts to keep her base engaged through this terrible time. She could have easily put her head down and ignored the 18+M, but, she’s leglislating and conversating…she’s amazing.

  163. Ok- this is getting my head all screwed up-

“I am so pleased that Senator Obama shares my commitment to universal health care.
by Senator Clinton at 8/7/2008 12:45:10 PM”

HUH? Last I knew- I was one of the 15 million that are going to be left out of Obama’s non-universal health care program.

    I am so confused!

  164. Hillary has to be extra careful with every response because the MSM will be riffling through these comments for something to blame her for. I bet Chuckie Todd is reading the comments as we speak!

  165. I am with Kim.

  166. Burt,
The Republicans FEARED Hillary, that’s why thier emotional response is so strong.

  167. That is not all Hillary. Unless he’s suddenly changed his healthcare plan to hers, he is not committed to UHC. I wouldn’t be surprised if he had though.

  168. I’m getting the same idea here, Kim. NOT buying either. Annoyed.

  169. Let it Ring: Amen to that!!

  170. We’re up to fifty nomination questions.

  171. I think it’s like saying to your 6 year old, “I know how clean your room is now.”

  172. I got what I came for. Some of that stuff is classic Hillary and that’s what I wanted. Anything else is political expedience, like I expected when I opened the chat.

  173. They’re probably also reading our comments to see how we respond. Bastards.

  174. Hey Burt or whatever the fuck your name is, put a sock in it. Hell, Paris Hilton had a better response to McCain than your guy. Don’t come here and say your guy is doing well against McCain. They truly hate Obama too and they will make sure he never got elected. You think Obama is not going to energize the repubs? But it is appalling to see he is not even putting up a fight for what is important for Democrats. And they have not even started on him.

  175. This is something that is being done to appease us and try to get us onboard and it AINT HAPPENING HERE!

Even the questions seem a little too “oh orgasmic obama”

  176. My question to Hillary has not been answered.
Wanted to know if she’d consider Obama as her VP when she
gets the nom at the convention.

    Carol
    What’s a PUMA HAKA?

  177. The MSM, Chuck Todd, etc., I mean.

  178. With the healthcare question she appears to be baiting The One since he backed away and I doubt he plans on instituting that once elected. I can’t believe I used the word “elected” in reference to him. Yuck!

  179. lol I’m too hardheaded. Had to try go in and try again… for what it’s worth!

  180. Popping in for 30 seconds — can’t help myself here –

Burt — You really have to be a major fool at this point to think that Obama has any chance to be the President.

Party at my house !! Pink Pumas all around !! If not HRC in 2008 — then McCain and we’ll bring the lady in the Pantsuit back in 2012.

  181. Pat, he is not going to be elected so it is okay.

  182. Kim and Regency: I agree – I don’t believe this is Hillary actually sitting there answering questions. These are all too generic – nothing different than what we’ve been hearing.

I hope that healthcare is turned over to Hillary; but, from what I’ve read, unless we mandate it, it isn’t going to happen. The costs will stay the same as long as there are people who won’t buy it or pay for it.

Yeah, hubby just got a new policy with his new job – but United Health Care isn’t sure they want to cover my office visit (only) because I have a pre-existing condition – nice.

  183. Maybe they are holding Chelsea hostage.

  184. If you JUST submitted a question, chances are it’s a long way off.

  185. C’mon folks, just stop responding to the trolls and they won’t have a reason to stay. (And it makes the threads more tolerable for those of us who ignore them in the first place.) Responding to the trolls really makes threads unbearable–and that’s kinda their point. They just want to disrupt, not change minds. They succeed when you respond.

  186. thank you for counting, Phoenix…

  187. For anybody reading this to see how it affects “devoted Hilary voters”: It makes no difference who shows me that they are doing the “good party devotee”, Obama is the slime of hell, and I will never vote for him.

  188. Hopefully all the people on the website will remember to press the nice big red “CONTRIBUTE” button to the right and help retire her debt (I hope she lets us know how much we have left…any number she gives, you know we’ll take it as a challenge to beat!)

  189. Obama is the slime of hell, and I will never vote for him.

This is a new description. I kind of like it!

  190. The answers to these questions could have been written two weeks ago,and just submitted one every five minutes to keep us hitting refresh. I’m disappointed. If she doesn’t answer the questions about her debt and her name in nomination, this will have been a complete waste of our time. And I love Hillary.

  191. I love Hillary too and would follow her anywhere but this has been an hour out of my life I will never get back.

My Hillary tee shirt is here. Very nice!

  192. What this really means:
Chickenshit Obama is terrified of fighting it out with ‘that woman’ at the convention, and the Chickenshit DNC is terrified of him AND her.

I feel better, I mailed off 3 empty beg letters to those Chickenshits at their expense.

  193. Thanks, OldCoastie. Seventy-one nomination comments out of 400+ questions. Is there any other topic that people have asked about so consistently? I doubt it.

No matter how she replies, her people are surely keeping track.

  194. Has anyone here had comments posted on the Hillary chat?
Mine just disappear! They’re not offensive, just want to know about the convention.. :-(

  195. Hillary just answered a question that was submitted an hour ago. The question by the 16 year old girl. Somebody’s answering them and yes some of the questions were submitted separately but somebody’s answering the ones submitted now as well.

  196. Fiona : There’s a backlog. Some of the comments take up to 45 minutes to appear. Please be patient.

  197. Okay (snark) nothing going on with her chat. That website is so “nineties”. It resembles a high school chat Q&A. I hope she gets better staff and tech people if she is the nominee. I can’t go through with the shoddiness again (Patti Solis Doyle types)…snark.

  198. Sorry to go off topic but has anyone heard of Grassroots Campaigns? I ripped down some fliers this morning on my way to work. They are recuiting people to work on Obama’s campaign and are willing to pay $300.00-$400.00 per week. It looks like this is one of Soros/Move-On operation.

    http://www.grassrootscampaigns.com/index.php

  199. Any information on the debt?

  200. Responses 6 & 7 sounds a lot like Hillary.

  201. I think this web chat has many different audiences (for her and for us, her loyal supporters). For us, the primary audience is the DNC and the SDs. We have to show them that we are still in support of her and that we want the wrongs done in the RBC and the primary process addressed. Voicing our request directly to her, we are sending a message that she knows and they know.

She has to tread a fine line here because her audience is not just us. In fact reading between the lines, she is telling DNC “watch out”, she is telling Obama “dare to adopt my policies if you want these people’s votes,” she is playing the unity card to show she is a team player, and so on.

  202. Agreed, pm317.

  203. Question #11

    Good Morning Senator Clinton:
Thank you for taking time to chat with your supporters. Is there any possibility of your name being placed in nomination for President at the convention? This would at least give your supporters a voice in the choice for the party’s nominee.

    by alrd1950 at 8/7/2008 12:07:51 PM

Answer: I know that there have been a lot of questions on this subject. Senator Obama and I share the goal of ensuring that the voices of everyone who participated in this historic process are respected. I want to assure everyone we are working together with Senator Obama’s campaign and the DNC, and I am confident we will have a successful and unified Convention in Denver.

by Senator Clinton at 8/7/2008 1:21:17 PM

  204. I’m going to smack the person who just asked the last question. Are they dumb or just naive? What on earth did they think she was going to say?

This is not a clubhouse; there are no secrets online.

  205. A non answer…

  206. wow
the Hillary chat is turning into an Obama love-in.
    I can’t deal.

  207. Not that question, a different question.

  208. OK, just read where she wrote:

“I want to assure everyone we are working together with Senator Obama’s campaign and the DNC, and I am confident we will have a successful and unified Convention in Denver.”

I’m going to go watch my grass grow.

  209. As long as people ask questions regarding Obama, she’s gonna talk about him.

  210. There is also a Rass poll McCain is passing Obama in trust the down ward spiral than cannot generally be stunted….

………………………..is it possible that ObamaKids, Obama himself, Clyburn and Brazile and Jackson Jr do not understand their original swift boating of the Clintons the attempt to do the same with McCain last week clumsy and obvious that. And now the continued use of Racist as their pet slander for those that do not embrace Obama qualification for the Office of President has doomed his candidacy,,,

Do they not know, sure they do know that the name Racist is as offensive to many in the white demographic as the use of the N word is to the black community, Clarence Page trys to tell them today in his Op Ed but it’s to late the dog whistle has been heard and they misjudge that electorate who are sick of this old politics no matter who holds the knife ..

    And Hansen writes the jig is up;
His recent clumsy “Without evidence, he unwisely has claimed his opponents (“they”) will play the race card against poor him…. And then show his hand by…”But it is quite another when the sermonizer himself too easily evokes race, weekly changes his mind and often sounds like he doesn’t have a clue what he’s talking about.”

Add the knowledge of Wrights doctrine, Michelle Obama’s not proud comments, Rezko felonies and a narrative has jelled the fog lifted and yes all agree now that Obama is different and famous for beign successful in that difference but not who they want in the White House….but we knew that back at SC

My prediction is that if Clinton is not some how the nominee, the fraud orchestrated by the RBC along Racial lines righted, and the cancellation of the gratuitous displays of Dems self perceived grandiosity planned for the football field canceled, Obama not only dose not get a bump from the convention but up at least an additional short term drop of another 6 percent drop among Dems who hear the door slam shut..

  211. I’m going to go with pm317, because otherwise I am very annoyed.

  212. I’m just sayin’. Her staff is so young an inexperienced. Treasurer doesn’t have 200 to pay a small vendor?..I hope I don’t see a repeat of the staff ithat was in her primary…
That was miserable knowing how incompetent they were..I was screaming about it to them in FEB.
The chat is so outdated…memories…in the corner of my mind….misty water…memories…of the way…

  213. Rod, a non-answer is also an answer. :)

  214. Most of her answers contain his name. This is just a call for “unity”. We wish to be informed about the debt, the VP questions, the nominating efforts from the delegates, etc.

It is nice to take the time to mentor someone about their future but this forum is no the venue. I need a definite break from the Obama torture.

  215. Good Grief. Give me something here.. Arugula anyone? She should just come onto the blog talk radio..

  216. My question did not include Obama. It was “If you are nominated at the Democratic convention and become the candidate, what would your plan be, as President, to handle the current economic collapse?”

I have to leave now. If you see that question, phrased that way, it’ll be me(?).

  217. well, that sorta sucked!

  218. this to me was a status quo/holding pattern deal. She didn’t say anything she hasn’t said before. sounds like the question of her being placed in nomination is still being negotiated, so she probably can’t say anything yet.

And keep in mind, she did not say she disavows the PUMAs, and I noticed a lot of PUMA names in the comments.

  219. Excerpt from I’m So Bored with Obama:

    http://www.salon.com/opinion/feature/2008/08/07/obama/

In the next month, Obama will have twin opportunities to restore a sense of surprise and wonder to his campaign. A pedestrian vice-presidential rollout (especially if it is a make-no-waves selection like Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh) and an eloquent-but-empty convention speech could signal trouble. Obama needs to give independents and loosely affiliated voters new reasons to vote for him, since he appears to have reached a temporary ceiling a bit shy of 50 percent in most public polls. Kohut theorizes that the public’s boredom with the Obama story “may account for the way that the horse-race numbers are stalled.”

There are leading Democrats both within the Obama camp and outside it who brood aloud (but not for attribution) about the caution that seems to afflict the Illinois senator’s campaign. “The ads are too narrow and too tactical,” says a well-placed Democratic media consultant. “They need to get on with it and start talking about the big issue — the economy — instead of focusing on values and bio.”

  220. “Senator Clinton, I’m so excited to be here on this outdated chat, I am 16 and need advice about what career to choose. Can you help?”

    Snark~
And people left work for this…

  221. She has signed off. Final count is 91 nomination questions out of 516.

  222. Hillary didn’t ask anybody to leave work for this. She invited them and they came, making whatever sacrifices they made on their own.

Hillary didn’t ask us to do any of the things we’re doing. We do it because we think it’s the right thing to do, but we can’t expect her to shoulder the cost of all that.

  223. I think I am going to have to get out my flyswatter. lol.

  224. cnn just did the whole Simofish story – a week after it happened, and without crediting Simofish OR linking the video. journalism isn’t dead; it’s just taken up hooking for a living.

    http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/08/07/clinton/index.html

  225. regencyg, you make a lot of sense.

  226. Bill, Hillary, and Chelsea could come to my house and finish my vacuuming but it will not alter my stance. No Obama under any circumstance. Not a big fan of ra*ce baiting and misogyny. There is nothing this guy could do or say to “massage” his message that will bring me onboard.

I have found a comfortable place under the bus and I am not about to give it up.

  227. Salt: Interesting post; sounds like someone is beginning to wake up at last. Can you post a link to the Op-Ed by Clarence Page? Thanks!

  228. Sad to say she still din not give a straight answer about allowing her name to be placed in nomination. We really did not need another Obama love-fest. BS =(

  229. I don’t think he knows how to appeal to people outside his base. He couldn’t seal the deal with half the Democrats who voted in the primary, after all.

If his speechifying and posing don’t work, he has no where else to go.

  230. Phoenix… And I wonder how many more that weren’t published? I posted 3-4 and one was ‘allowed’. All were polite and respectful.

  231. And people left work for this…

Actually Iearned alot about the DNC from this chat.

  232. Hillary already said she doesn’t have an answer to the nomination question. How can she give what she doesn’t have? And frankly, who are we to expect her to show her hand at this early date?

  233. clarence page?

“Obama hasn’t closed the deal yet”

    http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/columnists/chi-oped0806pageaug06,0,6970038.column

  234. Beadful: They had a ton of comments and clearly not a ton of net staff, so they moderated as best as possible. That’s why they asked that nobody double post. They might still post the balance of the comments, but now that Hillary’s not in the house, they may not.

  235. Democrats Buyers Remorse

Barack Obama and John McCain are running neck and neck.

    Impossible?

It would seem so. Republican President Bush still has less than a 30 percent approval rating. Headlines blare that unemployment and inflation are up — even if we aren’t, technically, in a recession. Gas is around $4 a gallon. Housing prices have nosedived. Sen. Ted Stevens, R-Alaska, has been indicted — another in a line of congressional Republicans caught in financial or sexual scandal

Meanwhile, the GOP’s presumptive candidate, John McCain, is 71 years old. The Republican base thinks he’s lackluster and too liberal.

So, everyone is puzzled why the Democratic candidate isn’t at least 10 points ahead. It seems the more Americans get used to Barack Obama, the less they want him as president — and the more Democrats will soon regret not nominating Hillary Clinton.
    http://countusout.wordpress.com/

  236. campskunk: That is a revelation since Clarence too has beaten the drum so loudly over the last few months. What he failed to address is that the longer this guy remains in the spotlight people are beginning to like him less. Without some form of substance, that former “idolatry” begins to wear thin. Especially when you start to question what lies beneath.

  237. what happened on her blog chat?

    fuzzy is home

  238. I’m really dissapointed with this “live chat.” From Paul’s buildup last night I was expecting something positive. I think she still has to play the party line. We need to keep supporting PUMA initiatives. I think there were plenty of questions about the convention and she got the message. PERSEVERE everyone.

  239. I knew they would not post mine and mentioned that in my first line. Did tell them however, that I knew someone would review it. Needless to say, I was quite open on how I feel about Obama, his handlers and the Democratic Party.

  240. campskunk,

I thoroughly believe we are going to have to create our own media network. We can no longer rely on the propagadists to tell us what is going on. We are going to have to find it out and get it out ourselves.

  241. It is the wrong time for Hillary to declare anything like she is unsuspending. All she can do right now is stay strong and be available to take over when his house of cards comes down.

Barack has had his best days and it is all down hill from here. There has to be desperation in the Obama campaign as they are trying to keep the scandals and other problems at bay until the convention. I’m sure they are pushing hard behind the scenes and things are getting really ugly. Just keeping a lid on the increasing press scrutiny and the doubting supporters must be a full time job. They know they are in a losing battle, and in a race against time.

It is up to us to keep pushing.

  242. Democrats Praise John McCain! In their own words:

  243. CB, I love that video, and the Democrats are going to really have a hard time smearing McCain when everyone finds out that Kerry asked him to be VP in 2004.

  244. Did everyone read the Salon piece about Obama Fatigue? People can’t
wait for Princess to return to the 58th state of Hawaii and let the Olympics
begin. If he picks a gray candidate such as Bayh, everyone will fall
    asleep.

  245. her words smile like the mona lisa…

I know that there have been a lot of questions on this subject. Senator Obama and I share the goal of ensuring that the voices of everyone who participated in this historic process are respected. I want to assure everyone we are working together with
Senator Obama’s campaign and the DNC, and I am confident we will have a successful and unified Convention in Denver.

  246. My problem with Obama isn’t his race–it’s his resume.

  247. For “working with,” read “negotiating.”

  248. Everyone. I wrote what I wanted her to know. She can’t answer anything other unity…………… I think it was a test to see where we are at. She knows.

  249. CB, you beat me to it. Watch out for the next ad to be how his 2002 speech had to be recorded in a sound studio later (after he announced his presidential bid) because there is no press record (?) of his giving that speech (but only eye witnesses) and he was a fill in for someone else and so on. He is toast when middle America hears that.

  250. I’m disappointed because I thought we were going to get to see and hear her.

  251. Regency: I guess we were all expecting something more; for me, anyway.

Vive – I think you’ve hit the nail on the head. I believe this was a “ruse” (in a way) to pander to the party. That’s OK – it’s just that I feel a lot of people (not any of us PUMA’s of course – smile) let their emotions carry them away again. We should have known better. We were hoping for some concrete answers.

At any rate, I trust Hillary and I understand the difficult position that she is dealing with. I’m gonna get on with my day and “just get over it.” Ha!

  252. Clarence Page has totally been in the tank for Obama this primary. Can’t believe how I used to respect him. He’s not changing, he’s just a little worried & probably wants to inspire the Obots.

  253. My final post to Hillary’s “web chat” was this.

Your editor was obviously picking and choosing the “unity” questions. The real information you got from this chat was that there are a great number of us out there who are demanding an open convention and that you be allowed to sign a petition to put your name in nomination. I think this is what you meant by “unity” at the convention. The Obama camp must be terrified at this prospect. Howard Dean has sold out. Perhaps Lottie Shackelford could offer some much needed wise counsel in this situation. PUMAs are everywhere and are not giving up by any means. We are behind you Hillary, all the way to the White House.

I do truly hope she hears us and takes heart, even though she can’t acknowledge us at this point. The time is coming when even the most diehard BO supporter is going to look to Hillary for salvation. I only see BO declining even more and as a result giving the White House to McCain. At this point he certainly has my vote until HIllary is nominated.

  254. atypical, if you have his phone number, you can do a reverse look-up:
    http://switchboard.intelius.com/
The name/address look-up is free and then they offer background checks, etc.

    djmm

  255. I love Hillary and support her, but she needs to stop with all this unity crap!!!! If she DIDN’T have the hope that we are going to pull this off (get her name in nomination) she would release her delegates. Please notice that she HASN’T. I find these things to be INSULTING. Sorry Hillary, but anymore of these ‘chats’ and she is going to start losing my support. In fact, I think I’ll post that on her website.

  256. Okay I am dissapointed….but at least she did not disown us that is something….Hillary I want the old Hillary full of wiskey and vinegar back! sigh well gotta get back to work!

    fuzzybeargville

  257. Headline reads “Obama doubts Clinton Backers Will Cause Trouble.”

Well, it’s gonna hit him all the harder then when he wakes up!!!

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080807/ap_on_el_pr/clinton_obama_5

  258. regencyg – I know and thanks! I’m just frustrated (as we all all) and a bit sad to see her on a short leash.

  259. I hope Pele Deals fairly with Obama! maybe he can wrap him is some nice hot lava…

    fuzzybeargville

Nothing will become him of this world as his leaving of it….

  260. This was probably forced damage control for Bill’s interview earlier this week. They forced her to come back out and play the unity role again. Its funny how much the DNC and Obama must fear them…probably as much as they loathe them.

  261. parentofed, on August 7th, 2008 at 1:08 pm Said:

“I feel better, I mailed off 3 empty beg letters to those Chickenshits at their expense”

Is sort of a good feeling isn’t it?

I have been mailing back the postage-paid envelopes with “junk mail” included in them. I make sure I have removed my name and any bar codes or numerical codes that might identify who I am as I want to stay on their (DNC’s and Obama”s) mailing lists so I can continue doing this. So far I think I have sent back 7 or 8 postage-paid evelopes (3 yesterday) with enough material in each envelope that it would cost far more than one stamp for them to get it back. (I like especially to include republican campaign material although I am sure no one really pays much attention to what is in the envelope when they open it and find no check.) Also, if the original begging request included any kind of letter I return that also with “PUMA “written across the front of it.

  262. Cate is a troll?

    gotta go…

    fuzzybeargville

  263. I think Hillary &Team just wanted to shake up Barack & Co. Yesterday she announces this chat with her supporters. Paul comes on blogtalk radio and tells us to keep doing what we’re doing; tomorrow’s going to be big. (I’m guessing a few Obama staffers didn’t get any sleep last night.) Today, Hillary is talking the party line, big time. Someone in Hillary’s office is saying “Fooled ya” or “Made ya look.” Meanwhile, whomever from the Obama camp that logged into the chat saw all her party line statements AND all the questions we asked. Might be worth something…

  264. Fuzz: Stop reading “My Mind,” the best-seller.

  265. I understand the frustration, believe me. Hillary just wanted to get chat mail from us. She misses us?
LOL. She’s testing the waters. She only found out about PUMA at the meeting in SAN FRAN last week. It’s all news to her. She going to run with it. Give her a chance.

  266. When I logged on to this “live chat” 9am PDT there were no questions and only 7 comments posted. Checked back 30min later & no change. Went about doing my day. Just came back inside 11am PDT), checked the “chat” where the “editor” had posted that they had started taking questions LAST NIGHT. Thanks so much for telling us, but since when does that qualify as live?

Now Ten questions with her responses are up along with 500* comments….nothing I have not seen or heard before. Whatever devious political purpose this may serve in either the long or the short term HRC calculus, it reaffirms that she is a politician first and foremost even though a part of me would like to believe otherwise.

I don’t have any insight…just wondering if she really understands yet that for many of us this is not about her or even about the potential of a woman as president, but about our right as voters to have a fair process .

  267. I was disappointed with the Obama hardsell from Sen. Clinton, but I could not expect anything different from her being a strong democratic party supporter. I do have to disagree with her that Obama does not support UHC. He does not share her commitment. I remember her plan and I remember the debates. On another note, a family member sent me an email containing a John McCain youtube video called “Courage”(?). Even though I do not agree with many of his positions, this video actually brought me to tears. McCain has some very good media people.

  268. Its funny how much the DNC and Obama must fear them…probably as much as they loathe them.

Yes, Gary – fear and loathing. I think that they are terrified beyond terrified – and the more projection they put on both Hillary and Bill, the more of these calls for unity we’ll see.

Regency – you’re wise beyond your years and it’s a pleasure to read your posts.

  269. RE: Hillary Clinton Webchat…Nothing New????
    http://insightanalytical.wordpress.com

I’m very disappointed esp. after last night’s buildup from Paul on the PUMA radio show…

  270. Salon has coined a new term in their latest article…Obama fatigue. LOL I’ve been fatigued by Obama since March.

    Mountain Sage

  271. This event was to see how many PUMA’S the DNC are up against it was to gage how passionate the dissent is. And I don’t think we let them down, they will be force to admit they have a problem. Now their next step is to bamboozle us with placing her name in nomination then asking her to refuse it, not sure if she will are not. I know if we keep letting her know we got her back she could realized hell lets do it lets take it to the floor in Denver. We could have just given her the leverage she needed …PUMA’s

  272. Keep heart.

  273. I think she says Obama supports universal health care in order to put pressure on him to actually do so.

There are lots of ways to negotiate.

  274. I have not the slightest skill as a political strategist, and have no idea what this meant today.

But I do know one thing, if the DNC/Obama thought this would in any way encourage me to vote for him, or diminish my support of Hillary Clinton, they are dumber than I thought.

  275. There were other things at work today. I believe her desire to connect was sincere, but I also think she didn’t realize exactly which issues were going to keep coming at her. VP, the nomination, RBC, things that she can’t fix in the position she’s in–things she can’t answer. I think that stunned her and probably her staff too. Her supporters are listening and watching and taking notes. She now knows that more than she ever has.

  276. Okay that was not Hillary, and you cannot convince me otherwise. The last question was something to the effect of are you meeting with your supporters at the convention. Did you read the response? It said And I love Texas. What the fuck was that? What does Texas have to do with the convention. This was a unity show and most of the questions were from Obama supporters and were put in place for Barry boy.

  277. Was Obama involved in this?

  278. Here it is:

    Question #12

Hillary, I hope that we will be able to talk with you at the Convention in Denver!
Please consider meeting with us — YOUR supporters!

by ginamc at 8/7/2008 12:31:24 PM

Answer: And, I love Texas! I am looking forward to seeing and talking with as many people as I can during the Convention. I will have a very busy schedule, and I am really looking forward to it. Thank you so much for your continued support.

by Senator Clinton at 8/7/2008 1:24:04 PM

So, is this a crazy response from someone who consistantly offers concise, exact answers and generally knows something about every question put to her?

    Or am I just crazy?

  279. It didn’t sound like her. Was someone else answering the questions? The And I like Texas was Hillary I’m sure. She does that when she doesn’t want to answer a question.

  280. The headline for that question was this:

Latinas in S. TEXAS LOVE YOU, HILLARY!

  281. Maybe we just need to take a step back and reexamine why we were so anticipatory today. Mawm may have been correct in his observation last night.

“Paul” is the one who got our juices flowing, hinting that she is about to “unsuspend” her campaign and urging us to participate in this online chat today. Many of us felt that he was talking to us from his “inside” status and it may turn out that he was. But we took him wholly on face value.

So we tuned in breathlessly awaiting some announcement that was never to be. At least not in this forum. When you think about it, is she dumb enough to make such an announcement on a blog that ended up attracting 500 or so bloggers?

Any other day we would have probably forgotten this invite but Paul urged us on. We so earnestly want to hear what it is we want to hear that we rushed to our computers at noon at somebody else’s eager urging. I am not sure what I make of it but going forward, if there were to be a caucus held on this blog, I will stand with Mawm. Better to be a skeptic and demand proof.

Paul may be who he claims to be but we have been led around the block too often and our disappointment is a direct result of this. I hope I am wrong and will be only too glad to amend my skepticism should that happen.

  282. Larry Johnson has a post at NQ discussing the Todd interview on Morning Joe. Todd said Hillary expects to treated differently than she would have treated Obama if she were the nominee [damn it, He's not the friggin nominee].

I hate this with a passion; the media now feels qualified to practice pop psychology and predict events. There is no way Todd “knows” what Hillary would have done if the positions were reversed, and this is not “news” in any shape or form. Why don’t they just bring on Madama Marinscha & see what she thinks?

And say, Chuck, don’t you feel a little foolish carrying swill for The One while he is on va-ca?

  283. Kim: I think she is campaigning this week in Texas and Nevada for him.

  284. I thought something was up last night with that guy Paul on NoWeWon’t. I’m sure he’s a good guy, and probably on point with many of his observations. Still, the whole thing just seemed odd — a head fake kind of thing.

And I told myself, very firmly: Don’t get your hopes up.

Don’t really know what’s going on, but it’s sure as hell interesting!!

This I do know: Nobama. No way. Not ever.

    Ya-a-a-y Puma! and Go Hillary!

  285. I didn’t see a caption on my screen. Anyway, it sounded like selling snake oil to me.

    Maybe I just wanted more.

Oh and I didn’t listen last night, so I knew nothing of Paul and his comments about this.

  286. Obama not agreeing to place Clinton name in nomination

Flying home to Chicago, Obama told reporters on his campaign plane that he talked separately this week to Clinton and her husband, the former president, and that they were enthusiastic about having a smooth convention at the end of the month in Denver.

“As is true in all conventions, we’re still working out the mechanics, the coordination,” Obama said. One such issue is whether there will be a convention roll call on Clinton’s nomination, he said.

“I’m letting our respective teams work out details,” he said. Asked if that meant he wouldn’t object to her name being placed in nomination and a vote taken, Obama said: “I didn’t say that. I said that they’re working it out.”
    read it all: http://countusout.wordpress.com/

  287. Kim, if you look for this in the question section:

by ginamc at 8/7/2008 12:31:24 PM

you will see the headline about Texas. It wasn’t in the section with the answers, so it may have been confusing.

  288. they (Obama/DNC) put a gun to her head to do this webchat . . .they’re trying to get PUMAs to cave . . . .which will never happen (NOBMAMA EVER)!

  289. Do you think that Obama’s people might had added the four questionable signatures to Alice Palmer’s nomination sheet? She didn’t have time to contest.
Someone who has the better kind of Chicago connections (real progressives for social change) on
the Southside outside of Hyde Park/U. of Chicago has so indicated. There’s no
record about anything with BO. Even THE SPEECH was phony.

  290. Hillary’s “conduct” subjected to polling – dems say – she’s been a good girl but not VP:
    http://edgeoforever.wordpress.com/2008/08/07/poll-hillary-gets-good-marks-for-being-a-doormat-but-no-vp/

  291. Okay I had to search through all the questions and comments to find it. Sorry.

But it still didn’t feel right. Maybe, because for me, it is no longer really about Hillary or Obama. Yes, I want Hillary and no, I won’t now or ever vote for BO. It is that my vote did not count and I am tired of voting and not being heard. It is like Pat’s comment, when I take time off from my day to cast a vote, by God it had better count.

  292. The draft of the democratic national platform for the convention is found at the link below:

    http://noquarterusa.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/draft-2008-democratic-national-platform.pdf

Sounds like they are adopting Obama’s Health Care Plan.

Plus, the gall to talk about wounded veteran’s when he didn’t even vote for the Bill to Extend their coverage.

  293. fred – You know something? Obama has NO AUTHORITY over whether her name will be placed in nomination.

    NONE.

This is absolutely f*cking ridiculous. The DNC does everything he says. He gets to make all the rules.

    Why?

No no no no no. Her name WILL be placed in nomination. And Obama will not be able to stop it.

We are too strong for him. PUMA!

  294. As RD said in one of her blogs about if he’s confident of being the nominee, why not put her name in nomination.

Just what we need a coward for President.

  295. Well, now we know who’s been pulling strings! This is a long, well documented and nauseating tale of intrigue that brings to light the surreal macinations that have gone on in this campaign.

    http://www.thecityedition.com/Pages/Archive/Summer08/BrazileRoveConnect.html

  296. I bet Hillary’s staff was charged with the unity pony show. Clinton has better things to do for the citizens of New York. During the campaign, I heard a campaign worker (paid by the campaign) say that this time it really sounded like
Hillary live–sometimes she felt it sounded like a recorded Hillary chiming in
    during conference calls.

Remember–according to the “pundits”– Hillary has to campaign her heart out for Obama if she hopes to have any future in the Senate.

She and her husband have already been smeared as racists by the Obama campaign. The Chicago machine has infiltrated the DNC and hopes to go to Washington. Hillary might want to be as bland and neutral as possible now.
The pressure on her delegates will be extreme. “Obama Fellows” not only train
recruits to talk about how they “came to Obama,” but I’m sure they have studied mob control for the convention. I read that the Hillary delegates are being isolated throughout Pepsi Center, and that they are divided among different hotels. They are obligated to voting for her on the first ballot, but many of them are getting false information.

This is not the Democratic Party we joined! We have witnessed a coup, and Mr. Obama is the one who fits the Dean Plan (google for it on RezkoWatch).

  297. Pat said “Any other day we would have probably forgotten this invite but Paul urged us on. We so earnestly want to hear what it is we want to hear that we rushed to our computers at noon at somebody else’s eager urging.”

maybe that was the point…to make sure we were there in droves because the DNC forced her to do this and she wanted to show them just how many loyal supporters she has, and that we are demanding our voices be heard.

  298. What I really think is going on is that they are telling her they will put her name in Nomination, but she will have to refuse it. I think they believe if that happens, we will then “fall in line” They are scared, they dont want us in Denver protesting, and they certainly don’t want a floor fight. Well guess again. We will not be bamboozled. We will be in Denver, We will fight on. This is bigger than Hillary. NO OBAMA EVER!
    PUMA

  299. Methinks Hill knows full well the block of her supporters she’s trying to *persuade* (wink, wink) about Obama isn’t gonna work. I truly believe she knows this and probably hopes her words of praise for his candidacy yields the opposite effect. I convinced of that!

  300. The teaming of Donna B and Karl Rove is chilling. Two Machiavellian operatives who would stomp their own mothers to get what they want. Anyone subjected to dealing with them must feel they have met La Costra Nostra. Nothing is beneath them in their quest even if it means overturning the democratic priniciples this country was built upon.

In Rove’s case we have seen some of that come to fruition. Donna is operating on a smaller scale right now through her efforts and the DNC. But given a larger stage I am sure she will be able to rise to Rove’s standards. Low as they are.

Beware. Bush led the way and Donna and company are only too happy to proceed.

  301. Hi guys – Will Bower on Neil Cavuto – Fox News Channel – right now!

  302. They are already picking up tidbits from today’s chat. Sounds like it was planned for unity, just like we thought. But Barry thinks we will come together for the party. I say BULLS&*T.

CHICAGO – Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama on Thursday dismissed suggestions that the nominating convention could be marred by tensions between his supporters and the die-hard backers of Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Obama told reporters that their staffs were working out mutually agreeable convention logistics. At the same time, Clinton was assuring her supporters in an online chat that she and Obama were “working together to make sure it’s a big success.”

Neither directly answered questions about whether Clinton’s name should be placed in nomination so that her backers could record their votes.

Obama clinched the nomination after a sometimes bitter primary contest with Clinton. Amid reports that some Clinton backers hope to raise her profile at the convention or even continue to push her candidacy, Clinton and Obama were publicly trying to ease the strained relations that exist between some of their supporters.

Clinton has not said whether she will seek a formal vote on her bid for the nomination. For the online chat on her Web site, she wrote that she and Obama will ensure Democrats are “fully unified.”

Clinton was expected to deliver a prime-time address to delegates on Aug. 26, the second night of the convention. With the delegate roll call planned for the next evening, Obama was set to accept the nomination with a speech on its fourth and final night.

“We will ensure that the voices of everyone who participated in this historic process are respected and our party is fully unified heading into the November election,” Clinton wrote. “While no decisions have been made yet, I will make sure that we keep you up to date and involved with all of the convention activity.”

Obama was asked whether allowing Clinton’s name to be placed in nomination might lead to a catharsis for the party, an emotional coming together that relieves pent-up stress.

“I don’t think we’re looking for catharsis. I think what we’re looking for is energy and excitement,” he said.

In the Web chat, one person asked Clinton directly: “Are you truly supporting Sen. Obama and encouraging your supporters to do the same or are you just saying what you have to?” Clinton insisted she was sincerely behind Obama.

Another questioner wanted to know if there was “any possibility” her name would be placed in nomination, arguing that doing so “would at least give your supporters a voice in the choice for the party’s nominee.” She was noncommittal.

As to those avid Clinton supporters who still haven’t warmed up to him and may even resent him, Obama said, “We’re not talking to those people, we’re talking directly to the Clinton campaign people and staff.”

Another participant in the Clinton chat posted a note saying he hopes Clinton becomes Obama’s running mate. In her response, Clinton repeated that she will do whatever Obama asks her to do but it is his decision “and I am going to respect the privacy of that process by not discussing it.”

The Clintons’ stance toward Obama’s candidacy is being closely scrutinized as the convention nears — particularly after remarks Bill Clinton made earlier this week during a trip to Africa. Asked whether Obama was prepared to become president, the former president replied, “You can argue that nobody is ready to be president,” and said he himself learned a lot in his first year on the job.

The remark was widely viewed as tepid and unenthusiastic, particularly in light of Republican candidate John McCain’s frequent criticism that Obama is not ready to be president.

Also, someone has been arested in Florida for threatening BO.

  303. He’s not looking for a “Catharsis”. That just really pisses me off.

  304. Bill Clinton being “tepid and unenthusiastic” is bunches better than my “disdainful and dismissive” attitude about BHO’c candidacy. Maybe that’s why he’s not talking to me. The Clintons are nicer. In fact, I’d be skeptical about this “threat” until I get more details, which I’m off to do right now.

  305. As to those avid Clinton supporters who still haven’t warmed up to him and may even resent him, Obama said, “We’re not talking to those people, we’re talking directly to the Clinton campaign people and staff.”

  306. I’m sure this has already been posted (posted it in “Obama has big donors?” thread, too). From last week’s Obama-donor soiree, in Houston (via Houston Chronicle) :

Pricey meal brings funds to Obama

By SHELBY HODGE Copyright 2008 Houston Chronicle

So what did the high rollers get for their money Thursday night after ponying up $28,500 each for dinner with Barack Obama?

That stratospheric tariff earned the 54 Obama supporters a gilded night in the party palace of John and Becca Cason Thrash embellished by face time with the presidential contender, a photo op, dinner by Jackson & Co. and a look-see at the 21,000-square-foot mansion. (The provocative glass floors on level two, always of interest to newcomers, sent the Secret Service’s bomb-sniffing dogs into a frenzy earlier in the day.)

The Thrash dinner was part two of Thursday’s fundraising blitz that garnered $1.6 million for Democratic coffers. An afternoon reception with Obama at Ginni and Richard Mithoff’s drew more than 250 who paid either $1,000 or $2,300, the larger figure earning a photo with Obama.

Back at the Thrash’s Memorial area home, uniformed waiters wearing white gloves served guests an array of appetizers — empanadas, tempura vegetables, tuna tartare and mini BLT’s — while they waited for Obama.

Anita and Gerald Smith, Linda Gale and Mark White, Joyce and Arthur Schechter, Gracie and Bob Cavnar, and Tony Chase were among those savoring the elite status of the intimate evening.

The heavy hitters, including energy mogul Paul Smith of Omaha, Neb., were seated at circular tables flanking the vast indoor swimming pool where a plexiglass stage had been erected to accommodate Obama for his remarks. (Bucking Thrash party tradition, no one fell or jumped into the pool.)

Eileen and Kase Lawal, Karen and Eric Pulaski, Stephanie and Bill Perkins, the Mithoffs and a handful of contributors from Austin and Dallas were among those dining on Jackson Hicks’ “Al Fresco Dinner.”

The menu began with seafood martinis (martini glasses sumptuously laden with crawfish, shrimp and lump crabmeat) and continued with a lavish cold supper of sliced beef tenderloin, curried chicken salad with mango chutney and cashews, roasted fennel potato salad, grilled asparagus and tomatoes caprese. Dessert was help-yourself with an array of sweets served on two-tiered silver stands.

Not on the menu was the lime pie that Jackson & Co. prepared at the special request of the candidate.

Guests were required to arrive at 6 p.m., well in advance of Obama, who spent under two hours at the Thrash home. By 11 p.m. it was lights out. (Contrary to Becca party tradition, she did not do a costume change as is her habit during livelier evenings at home.)

    Tex-Mex, please

Clearly, the Obama staffers didn’t get any of the Thrash vittles. Molina’s Cantina received a call from the campaign for 35 orders of fajitas — and one order of fried chicken — to be delivered to a private hangar at Hobby Airport. Roberto Molina reports that even though they don’t typically do fried chicken, his chefs were able to accommodate the request.

  307. As to those avid Clinton supporters who still haven’t warmed up to him and may even resent him, Obama said, “We’re not talking to those people, we’re talking directly to the Clinton campaign people and staff.”

    “THOSE” people?

    “THOSE” people?

    “THOSE” people?

    What a pretentious, smarmy azz-hole.

  308. New thread up about Will Bower and the Convention. :-)

  309. I didn’t read much of the unity pony sentiments, just enough to realize that several staffers
had been given a sheet of talking points to pound out that will send Obama happily off on his vacation. Even Bush didn’t divide his own party.

  310. I was able to get a comment posted that said I hoped she knew that we were all biting our tongues, not saying what we REALLY wanted to say, etc.etc. I was surprised THAT got through, and yet my comments about UHC never did.

    Strange.

  311. THOSE little people don’t matter in ObamaWorld.

    Only the insiders matter.

    How very revealing.

  312. Bonita, on August 7th, 2008 at 4:23 pm Said:

    that is outrageous!
    Party Unity KISS my ASS!

  313. ” “We’re not talking to those people, we’re talking directly to the Clinton campaign people and staff.”

He does realize that WE’RE the ones with the damned votes, right??!!

  314. “I don’t think we’re looking for catharsis. I think what we’re looking for is energy and excitement,” he said.

For once I agree with Obama. We want energy and excitement. We want Hillary!

Please can we have Hillary back now?

  315. What was the name of that kid on american idol that sang “she bangs”? He was so bad but kept getting enough votes to stay on the show.
    That is obama now.
As far as I am concerned the democratic party can go to hell.
They have been bought and paid for by obama.
They no longer represent the american people.
If he does not meet the delegate count why do they call him the nominee?
Why do we have to beg these traitors to put Senator Clinton on the roll call?
If obama gets into the whitehouse Ayers and Dorn and every enemy of america wins

    COUNTRY BEFORE PARTY ALWAYS

    PUMAS AND BUBBAS RULE

  316. So THIS Hill supporter is one of THOSE people? Kewl! Thanks, Obama, can’t wait to tell the kids & hub.

  317. I’m done with it. I’ve e-mailed Pelosi,Dean,Brazille, and my local Super-Ds, sent money to help retire the debt. No more.

And Senator Clinton does what? Kiss up to Saint Barry?

If she cared about us and others like the Denver Group, she’d run as an independent(if not for the presidency, than at least she can stay in the Senate and switch to Independent;worked for Jeffords & Lieberman).

This chat is BS. She’s become part of the DNC problem. As for being held “hostage”, I don’t buy it.

I’ve been an admirer since she spoke at my college(Marshall U) in 1992 campaigning for Bill. She returned there in ‘93 promoting health care and stood her ground while being heckled by College Repubs. She’s never backed down from a fight.
Sen. Clinton has never been anyone’s hostage. If she cared about us or winning the nomination, she’d be fighting for it tooth and nail, not playing nice.

  318. She has to be committed to Obama, that is what was the agreement to help retire her campaign debt. So far Obama has not fulfilled his commitment. I read a Newsmax item that stated she wanted her name to go into nomination, because she said her supporters deserved no less. If her name does not go in, I wil not vote Democractic. If I do not vote for McCain, I will vote for Nader.

  319. That chat was a whole lotta nothing!

  320. Good thing I missed the chat. Sounds like it was nothing but bullcrap. I don’t even bother anymore- This bullshit of her having to work for him makes me gag, where the fuck is Edwards? Judas? Biden? Dodd? What a loser- if Hillary had been the nominee the possum could have vacationed in Mars, she didn’t need him. I guess Hillary is doing what she feels she must, just like I will definitely do what I must in November.
God, I can’t wait till this national nightmare is over

  321. So are we getting behind Obama now?

  322. 18,000,000 votes were worth fighting for.

  323. Don’t you people recall during the election, when they kept telling Hillary it was already over, she needed to get out — when will the bit#h quit? Well, she did not quit, so I guess now they are extracting their pound of flesh. Wasn’t there a Daley political machine in Chicago at one time that was thoroughly crooked? Well it seems to me that the Chicago Mafia has now taken over the Democratic party; Obama is the “godfather” and everyone has to kneel and kiss his ring. I have said I would never vote for Obama, but I could not vote for McCain. I am changing my mind; if Hillary does not get a “real nomination and role call vote, I shall vote for McCain and possibly a one lever pull on the machine. I stayed away for awhile and I may have to stop lurking again, because I just want to tear things up! I certainly do not blame Hillary for any of this; both of the Clintons look a little shell-shocked to me. All three of the Clintons made me feel proud during the campaign by the way they conducted themselves. Rise, Hillary, rise. Maya Angelou, I really admire that woman for coming forward for Hillary the way she did. TxIndy
