I don’t have a whole lot to say. I can tell you I have butterflies in my stomach about what Hillary is going to say. I think that regardless of
Senator Hillary Clinton
whether she tries to push unity on us or she goes in another direction, our mission remains clear. To have an open and transparent convention that reflects the will of the more than 36 million Americans who participated in the Democratic primaries. I think we also need to keep in mind that Obama’s decision to return full voting status to delegates from Michagan and Florida does not make up for the fact that the RBC stole delegates from the uncommitted voters, as well as all write in votes, AND 4 of Hillary’s delegates. Until that travesty is corrected the votes of those delegates can not be considered legitimate.

Off topic but I need help.
This AM I had a strange call on my landline from a man who said he was trying to contact a man who had the unusual last name of one of my daughters in law who lives in another state. I reverse checked his number and found eventually that the man’s number is a landline located in the Amherst, NY area. No one in my family knows anyone in that area. I cannot get the man’s name and address without paying for it. Does anyone have that service already who would look up this info incase something weird happens at my home.

Yes, this must continue to be emphasized as the reason that a roll call vote, even one with Sen. Clinton in nomination, will not suddenly make this primary legitimate and the reason that many of us will never support Obama. Sen. Clinton should be urged by us to appeal that ruling, as a matter of principle. Seems unlikely, though, at this point.

I’m not disappointed because I had no expectations. This is the same woman who was on Wolf Blitzer yesterday. She has a role to play. Expect her to play it up until she no longer has to.
Once again, a lot of people are expecting some sign from Hillary on what to do next. Chances are there isn’t one. You have to decide what your next bold move is and stick with it, regardless of what she says. If you let your drive be dictated by her actions, you’ll be forever depressed or uninspired. Pick a path–that’s your path.

regency: I could agree with your thesis except there are so many pacs working on her behalf, like the Denver Group as an example, who either know already what she desires, or people like us who have been hoping and praying on her behalf to make some corrections to the huge errors made by the DNC.
She may not “owe” us in the traditional sense of the word but if people are knocking themselves out for her then they deserve at least some consideration that it is either welcomed or not. Some subtle hint might work.

Regency: I agree with your theory. Good advice and it’s how I live my life. I have no “expectations” of Hillary. But, you don’t send out an email to all of your members, tell them there is a web chat the next day; please attend; and then nothing is there, Perhaps it is so that the DNC is playing games with her. BUT, her people on the other end should at least be answering some of the questions that are posed. Gosh – that isn’t asking too much.
Many are asking about the status of the campaign debt. I hope she answers one of those questions.

Hillary has to be irritated when people repeatedly ask her questions she can’t or won’t answer–and has said she can’t or won’t answer.

But, now I am feeling what Regency said – not to have expectations and perhaps this is a “showing” (so to speak) for the DNC; i.e., she’s doing all she can to show how hard she’s working for BO. Otherwise, it’s getting kind of sickening and hard to swallow at this point.

Trolls are like nasty little insects, no matter how hard you try to keep them out they manage to find a way in. They are interested because they need to see for themselves where the commitment is coming from and how strong it is out here. It’s a cumbersome process and practically impossible to really “chat.” But it’s great that HRC is doing this, it shows her political smarts to keep her base engaged through this terrible time. I think this web chat has many different audiences (for her and for us, her loyal supporters). For us, the primary audience is the DNC and the SDs. We have to show them that we are still in support of her and that we want the wrongs done in the RBC and the primary process addressed. Voicing our request directly to her, we are sending a message that she knows and they know.
She has to tread a fine line here because her audience is not just us. In fact reading between the lines, she is telling DNC “watch out”, she is telling Obama “dare to adopt my policies if you want these people’s votes,” she is playing the unity card to show she is a team player, and so on.

I’m really dissapointed with this “live chat.” From Paul’s buildup last night I was expecting something positive. I think she still has to play the party line. I thoroughly believe we are going to have to create our own media network. We can no longer rely on the propagadists to tell us what is going on. We are going to have to find it out and get it out ourselves.
It is the wrong time for Hillary to declare anything like she is unsuspending. All she can do right now is stay strong and be available to take over when his house of cards comes down.
Barack has had his best days and it is all down hill from here. There has to be desperation in the Obama campaign as they are trying to keep the scandals and other problems at bay until the convention. I’m sure they are pushing hard behind the scenes and things are getting really ugly. Just keeping a lid on the increasing press scrutiny and the doubting supporters must be a full time job. They know they are in a losing battle, and in a race against time.

The real information you got from this chat was that there are a great number of us out there who are demanding an open convention and that you be allowed to sign a petition to put your name in nomination. I think this is what you meant by “unity” at the convention. The Obama camp must be terrified at this prospect. Howard Dean has sold out. Perhaps Lottie Shackelford could offer some much needed wise counsel in this situation. PUMAs are everywhere and are not giving up by any means. We are behind you Hillary, all the way to the White House.
I do truly hope she hears us and takes heart, even though she can’t acknowledge us at this point. The time is coming when even the most diehard BO supporter is going to look to Hillary for salvation. I have been mailing back the postage-paid envelopes with “junk mail” included in them. I make sure I have removed my name and any bar codes or numerical codes that might identify who I am as I want to stay on their (DNC’s and Obama”s) mailing lists so I can continue doing this. So far I think I have sent back 7 or 8 postage-paid evelopes (3 yesterday) with enough material in each envelope that it would cost far more than one stamp for them to get it back. (I like especially to include republican campaign material although I am sure no one really pays much attention to what is in the envelope when they open it and find no check.) Also, if the original begging request included any kind of letter I return that also with “PUMA “written across the front of it.

Paul comes on blogtalk radio and tells us to keep doing what we’re doing; tomorrow’s going to be big. (I’m guessing a few Obama staffers didn’t get any sleep last night.) Today, Hillary is talking the party line, big time. Someone in Hillary’s office is saying “Fooled ya” or “Made ya look.” Meanwhile, whomever from the Obama camp that logged into the chat saw all her party line statements AND all the questions we asked. Might be worth something…

Now Ten questions with her responses are up along with 500* comments….nothing I have not seen or heard before. Whatever devious political purpose this may serve in either the long or the short term HRC calculus, it reaffirms that she is a politician first and foremost even though a part of me would like to believe otherwise.
I don’t have any insight…just wondering if she really understands yet that for many of us this is not about her or even about the potential of a woman as president, but about our right as voters to have a fair process .
I was disappointed with the Obama hardsell from Sen. Clinton, but I could not expect anything different from her being a strong democratic party supporter. I do have to disagree with her that Obama does not support UHC. He does not share her commitment. I remember her plan and I remember the debates. On another note, a family member sent me an email containing a John McCain youtube video called “Courage”(?). Even though I do not agree with many of his positions, this video actually brought me to tears. McCain has some very good media people.

I have not the slightest skill as a political strategist, and have no idea what this meant today.

There were other things at work today. I believe her desire to connect was sincere, but I also think she didn’t realize exactly which issues were going to keep coming at her. VP, the nomination, RBC, things that she can’t fix in the position she’s in–things she can’t answer. I think that stunned her and probably her staff too. Her supporters are listening and watching and taking notes. She now knows that more than she ever has.

It said And I love Texas. What the fuck was that? What does Texas have to do with the convention. So we tuned in breathlessly awaiting some announcement that was never to be. At least not in this forum. When you think about it, is she dumb enough to make such an announcement on a blog that ended up attracting 500 or so bloggers?
Any other day we would have probably forgotten this invite but Paul urged us on. We so earnestly want to hear what it is we want to hear that we rushed to our computers at noon at somebody else’s eager urging. I am not sure what I make of it but going forward, if there were to be a caucus held on this blog, I will stand with Mawm. Better to be a skeptic and demand proof.

I bet Hillary’s staff was charged with the unity pony show. Clinton has better things to do for the citizens of New York. During the campaign, I heard a campaign worker (paid by the campaign) say that this time it really sounded like

Remember–according to the “pundits”– Hillary has to campaign her heart out for Obama if she hopes to have any future in the Senate.
She and her husband have already been smeared as racists by the Obama campaign. The Chicago machine has infiltrated the DNC and hopes to go to Washington. Hillary might want to be as bland and neutral as possible now.
The pressure on her delegates will be extreme. “Obama Fellows” not only train
recruits to talk about how they “came to Obama,” but I’m sure they have studied mob control for the convention. I read that the Hillary delegates are being isolated throughout Pepsi Center, and that they are divided among different hotels. They are obligated to voting for her on the first ballot, but many of them are getting false information.
This is not the Democratic Party we joined! We have witnessed a coup, and Mr. Obama is the one who fits the Dean Plan (google for it on RezkoWatch).

The teaming of Donna B and Karl Rove is chilling. Two Machiavellian operatives who would stomp their own mothers to get what they want. Anyone subjected to dealing with them must feel they have met La Costra Nostra. Nothing is beneath them in their quest even if it means overturning the democratic priniciples this country was built upon.
In Rove’s case we have seen some of that come to fruition. Donna is operating on a smaller scale right now through her efforts and the DNC. But given a larger stage I am sure she will be able to rise to Rove’s standards. Low as they are.

So what did the high rollers get for their money Thursday night after ponying up $28,500 each for dinner with Barack Obama?
That stratospheric tariff earned the 54 Obama supporters a gilded night in the party palace of John and Becca Cason Thrash embellished by face time with the presidential contender, a photo op, dinner by Jackson & Co. and a look-see at the 21,000-square-foot mansion. (The provocative glass floors on level two, always of interest to newcomers, sent the Secret Service’s bomb-sniffing dogs into a frenzy earlier in the day.)
The Thrash dinner was part two of Thursday’s fundraising blitz that garnered $1.6 million for Democratic coffers. An afternoon reception with Obama at Ginni and Richard Mithoff’s drew more than 250 who paid either $1,000 or $2,300, the larger figure earning a photo with Obama.
Back at the Thrash’s Memorial area home, uniformed waiters wearing white gloves served guests an array of appetizers — empanadas, tempura vegetables, tuna tartare and mini BLT’s — while they waited for Obama.
Anita and Gerald Smith, Linda Gale and Mark White, Joyce and Arthur Schechter, Gracie and Bob Cavnar, and Tony Chase were among those savoring the elite status of the intimate evening.
The heavy hitters, including energy mogul Paul Smith of Omaha, Neb., were seated at circular tables flanking the vast indoor swimming pool where a plexiglass stage had been erected to accommodate Obama for his remarks. (Bucking Thrash party tradition, no one fell or jumped into the pool.)
Eileen and Kase Lawal, Karen and Eric Pulaski, Stephanie and Bill Perkins, the Mithoffs and a handful of contributors from Austin and Dallas were among those dining on Jackson Hicks’ “Al Fresco Dinner.”
The menu began with seafood martinis (martini glasses sumptuously laden with crawfish, shrimp and lump crabmeat) and continued with a lavish cold supper of sliced beef tenderloin, curried chicken salad with mango chutney and cashews, roasted fennel potato salad, grilled asparagus and tomatoes caprese. Dessert was help-yourself with an array of sweets served on two-tiered silver stands.
Not on the menu was the lime pie that Jackson & Co. prepared at the special request of the candidate.
Guests were required to arrive at 6 p.m., well in advance of Obama, who spent under two hours at the Thrash home. By 11 p.m. it was lights out. (Contrary to Becca party tradition, she did not do a costume change as is her habit during livelier evenings at home.)

Clearly, the Obama staffers didn’t get any of the Thrash vittles. Molina’s Cantina received a call from the campaign for 35 orders of fajitas — and one order of fried chicken — to be delivered to a private hangar at Hobby Airport. Roberto Molina reports that even though they don’t typically do fried chicken, his chefs were able to accommodate the request.

Sen. Clinton has never been anyone’s hostage. If she cared about us or winning the nomination, she’d be fighting for it tooth and nail, not playing nice.
She has to be committed to Obama, that is what was the agreement to help retire her campaign debt. So far Obama has not fulfilled his commitment. I read a Newsmax item that stated she wanted her name to go into nomination, because she said her supporters deserved no less. If her name does not go in, I wil not vote Democractic. If I do not vote for McCain, I will vote for Nader.
