As many of you recall, Obama’s little henchmen tried to suppress our first amendment rights when we attended the so called “unity” rally in New Hampshire. Here’s a reminder if you didn’t see it the first time:
He also doesn’t want any of us anywhere near the convention next month in Denver. In fact, he’s gone out of his way to be more intolerant of free speech than the Republicans have. Yes, you heard that right. While the Democrats have conspired to cage protesters far from the sensitive eyes of superdelegates like Donna and Nancy, the Republicans have actually stepped back from the destruction of free speech in this country:
Free speech zones have been employed by both Democrats and Republicans at past political conventions. This year, however, Democrats face the embarrassing possibility that they will be the only party actually caging dissenters. Protesters at the upcoming Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Denver in late August will be corralled into caged “free speech zones” made of chicken wire and chain link fences which are located more than two football fields from the delegates’ entrance. Those who attempt to exercise their First Amendment rights outside this makeshift cage, which is partially obscured by trees and sculptures, will be arrested. (Ironically, protesters at this year’s Republican National Convention will not face a cage or even policemen in riot gear.)
Not only that, but Barack’s buddies in the media want to get in on the action as well. See, they don’t want to have to be bothered with seeing protesters, much less actually reporting on the fact that they are there:
Even the news media, once considered a vital stronghold for ensuring accountability in government, is also conspiring to keep protesters out of sight and earshot. Members of the media are urging Denver officials to move the designated protest zone away from where media tents will be situated, reportedly due to concerns that loud demonstrations could disrupt broadcasts or that reporters and photographers could be doused with tear gas or pepper spray if there are confrontations between police and protesters.
In fact the City of Denver, which is controlled by a Democratic Mayor, has consistently lied about the ability of protesters to have their voices heard. According to City Attorney David Fine:
…people in the area “will be within sight and sound of the delegates.”
Not true, say lawyers for the ACLU, who thankfully are not so drunk on the Kool-Aid as to have forgotten our basic rights as laid out in the Constitution:
“No human voice, or any other sound . . . can ever hope to reach a person at the entrance,” lawyers for the ACLU wrote in an amended complaint filed in federal court in Denver.
In fact, they appear to have placed the free-speech zone at least 2 football fields away from the Pepsi Center, and at the back, opposite of where the delegates will be entering. I found a picture illustrating the placement of the “free-speech zone”
According to a map released by the city late last week, the protest zone will be in the southern corner of Lot A, about 700 feet from the Pepsi Center. In some places, the view of the building’s main doors is obstructed by trees and sculptures.
Thankfully the ACLU is doing its job to protect the Constitution from those who would gag us and strip us of our most cherished of rights. They plan to fight this tooth and nail, as they did after the fiasco of the Republican Convention in Boston in 2004. There is precedent on their side as well, as the judge in that case deemed that protesters’ first amendment rights were violated, but it was too late to make a difference then. Maybe this time we’ll see justice prevail. The ACLU had this to say about their lawsuit:
In a complaint filed in federal court, the ACLU is asking U.S. District Judge Marcia Krieger to order the city and the Secret Service to locate the protest zone, which will be surrounded by a wire mesh fence, closer to the Pepsi Center.
Krieger has scheduled a trial for July 29 – less than a month before the convention starts – to settle that and other issues raised by the ACLU. Krieger was also asked to:
* Bar authorities from searching people entering the protest zone unless police have probable cause, or from declaring that police have the right to search anyone in the protest area.
The city has not said how it will handle searches, but Fine said Monday that, “Simply put, we are going to abide by the Constitution.”
* Allow protesters to hand out leaflets to people attending the convention who are within the secured perimeter of the Pepsi Center. The city has said this will be prohibited.
* Allow parades to pass near the Pepsi Center and at times when delegates are present.
Let’s all wish them the best of luck, and maybe send a little donation their way.
But Obama is not content to deny Americans their free speech rights, he also wants to deny Germans theirs as well. Funny that he feels the need to do so, since they clearly LOOOVVEE him so much. But real progressives in Germany are not so happy with The One:
But not everyone, of course, is euphoric about the conditions under which Obama will appear in Berlin.
Those wishing to attend have been advised that signs and posters will be prohibited at the speech — a move that has come in for criticism particularly from the left. There has been speculation that the Obama camps wants to avoid pictures of Germans making anti-American statements that could hurt the candidate back home.
Obama and Co. hate free speech. Why? Because they know that the hype around him is an illusion. They have to keep him in a tight bubble lest the false portrait that his lackeys in the media have created of the “beloved agent of change” will disintegrate before their very eyes. The polls are already showing this to be true, so they have to keep the charade up by any means necessary. It is our jobs as PUMA to tear down that facade and show the world the true face of the anti-democratic, presumptuous selectee. GO PUMA!!!!
***UPDATE*** commenter echinopsia kindly sent a link to this pic showing what a protester would look like to an SD entering the Pepsi Center:

Freaky. This is really getting scary. Remember we will be discussing the first half of 1984 Sunday. I can’t keep up with the material that compares to the book, it’s coming fast and furious.
masslib: I am trying to create a space in my house where they cannot see me a la Winston.
Oh my…
this controlling behavior by Senator Obama and his campaign simply gives me the creeps
and I already have the creeps from the candidate himself
It’s all so chilling and creepy and dare I say anti-American …

Internet Group Anonymous Files Bar Complaint Against Obama
Anonymous announced that they have filed a complaint with the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission requesting an investigation into false statements and misrepresentations Barack Hussein Obama made on his own bar application.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Anonymous’ complaint alleges that by consuming illegal drugs Obama was violating New York Penal Law Sec. 220.06, which criminalizes cocaine use.[1] If proven, that level of drug use is a felony. Commission of such a criminal act is ethically prohibited as it reflects adversely on the lawyer’s fitness to practice law. See Rule 8.4(a)(3). The complaint further alleges that Obama engaged in multiple violations of Illinois Rules of Professional Conduct (”Rules”), including Rule 8.1 which prohibits lawyers from making a statement of material fact in connection with a bar application that the applicant knows to be false; Rule 8.4(a)(4) which prohibits lawyers from engaging in conduct involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit or misrepresentation; Rule 8.4(a)(5) which bars lawyers from participating in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice; and Supreme Court Rule 771 which prohibits lawyers from engaging in conduct which brings the courts or the legal profession into disrepute.

Good idea, Pat.
Seriously, look at the guy in the video happily slashing people’s free speech rights because he probably believes it is for the “greater good” or some sh*t. The media helping out, why? Because obviously they don’t want anything that goes against narative. What’s happened to my former Party?
I think I’m probably going to get arrested in Denver….
” loud demonstrations could disrupt broadcasts ”
umm, wouldn’t “loud demonstrations” be considered news worth reporting? Real reporters would want to be closer to it, not further away…jeez what f@#ing little prisspots…..
You may as well relocate the “free speech zone” to my front yard in MA judging by the current location so far from the convention center. Why is all this being done for the sake of one inexperienced nominee?
Yay gary! Great post.
Maybe we should all just stop paying attention?
This infuriates me to NO END!!!!
obama=bush
My God I’m disgusted.
My mom just called me and told me that one of the cable news channels (she didn’t know which one my dad had on) said that the crowd in Berlin was close to 200,000. Of course they also mentioned that Obama had two very popular bands as his opening acts free of charge. Gotta love the “staged” crowds and choreographed events.
You have to read Jason Linkins live blog from Berlin. Hilarious!

Time for a walk. Later, PUMAs! See you for Causmos later. Rrrrrrrowwwwwrrrrr!
FL Voter, that’ s hysterical. At an earlier moment, someone suggested that O would use a free concert, just as he did in Seattle, to boost numbers at his appearance in Germany. He is both predictable and pathetic.
fron CNN
but NOOOOO this was not a political rally. What a bunch of liars.
WTF? Why are the tax payers paying for this bs?
I was actually still awake at 5:00 CDT when the cable news shows were starting and they were showing his Lordship’s tacky lookingn plane arriving in Germany. I was waiting to crash (and for sleep MD to take effect). Didn’t want to be nauseated with my little sleep aide so I switched it to Jaw 23 or whatever on AMC.
Regarding the protest area in Denver, my God this is appalling that the Dems are pulling shit like this. I hope someone in the on-air media makes a comparison between the Dem and Repub conventions in this regard. This is just disgusting.
However, since they have moved the caged area outside of sight and earshot what about a little plane fly-over in the area where it could still be seen, with a flying ad for PUMA?
Ok, so I wrote that single payer post today. AL Gore apparently agrees:
http://current.com/items/84987281_health_care_is_a_right
I hope Hillary comes out for it sooner rather than later.
fredster, the media is in on it, so who we gonna complain to. I like the plane idea, although I also read that Homeland Security has budgeted over $50 million for the convention and that includes military choppers, and that probably means restricted airspace. I think we should all show up in RV’s decorated with protest signs and constantly drive around the city. Thats what mawm and I are doing. OH, and not only did his little german love fest cost us, it also cost the germans:
200,000?
I thought it was supposed to be at least a million.
Gary, I was thinking of Fox for the media thing. I’m sure O’Reilly or Hannity would get a kick out of the fact that the Dems are clamping down more than the Repubs.
I’m sure airspace over the Pepsi Center and immediate area is controlled but I wonder if a plane with the PUMA trailer or something could be able to fly in sight of the center?
show up in RV’s decorated with protest signs and constantly drive around the city.
WOW! That’ll break your wallet? See if you can fuel up with the city of Denver like the convention is going to do. Won’t have to pay taxes on the fuel!
Did they ever pan over the entire crowd? I never saw anything like those numbers of people.
Obamamania is manufactured to impress who? The US people so that we should all say, Hey Germany loves him, maybe we should vote for him! What a load of BS. My mother listened to part of the speech and turned it off in disgust. She said that the German people do not need a history lesson about there country. What a phony.
Gary, I know that as an Infantry Co-Commander, you already have the counter-offensive plan going. Thank you for the great info!
So what will the BOOGER, uh, I mean BLOGGER BOIZ say now? That it’s ok as long as it doesn’t interrupt the PRECIOUS?
HYPOCRITES!
So McClatchy reports today that Obama claimed while in Israel while boasting about what he he’d done to protect Israel
“Just this past week, we passed out of the U.S. Senate Banking Committee — which is my committee — a bill to call for divestment from Iran as a way of ratcheting up the pressure to ensure that they don’t obtain a nuclear weapon,” Obama said.
And he is not even a member let alone is it his, this is strange delusional is the word.
Vaporware…
Salt Obama’s problem is that he believes his own press.
gary im drivin from phx so i will be right there with you.
In Obama Nation, everyone has freedom of speech, but some people have more freedom than others.
Al Gore is DEAD to me. He no longer exists in my little Democrat world. He sold out to the Nuclear Ethanol Candidate.
Obama says he will lead the Joshua Generation.
I want to drive RVs around the convention center every day, and on the last day drive seven times around Invesco Field. Maybe God will bring the walls down.
myiq2xu, we are reading 1984. We’ll get to Animal Farm soon enough.
Free speech zones, free smeetch zones. You were expecting an actual Democrat?
MAWM: LOL!!! Yes! Maybe the walls will come down. Hey, if it worked for the Israelites, why not PUMAs?
he likes pug ideas, no? This is so sad, and his supporters will have to claim it’s good marketing and bite their tongues about pug tactics, now that the DNC endorses them. How can we speak to injustice when we promote it? This is like the loss of world standing when Bush invaded Iraq and promoted torture. The party has just lost a lot of standing with normal people, long time Democrats who have the right to exercise free speech, when the party pre-approves it.
myiq and mawm….reminds me of Bush’s stupid empty slogan “freedom isn’t free”. Guess we should get used to that kind of crap if bozo is elected
The Joshua Generation thing to me is extremely scary. There is too much religion in politics as it is. What happened to the separation of church and state? I guess it died along with the First Amendment and the Fourth Amendment. I can’t see how the “Free Speech Zones” can be constitutional. Don’t these zones overburden our rights?
sm77, I hear you. I’m just trying to nudge Hill in that direction. But I understand. To be fair, it wasn’t the most ringing endorsement ever, and I don’t even think Tipper showed up.
I find it infuriating that “progressives” who spent the last eight years b*tching and moaning about G-Dub’s abuse of our rights are enthusiastically supporting The Precious doing the same thing.
That’s why I’m a liberal – our principles aren’t flexible.
FL voter, a judge in MA already said they are not in the case of the 2004 Rep. convention. I don’t know how they’re getting away with it now. The ACLU will be heard on 7/29—keep your eye out for it. And do what ever you can to support them. They really are our last line of defense when it comes to protecting constitutional freedoms.
Ok, I didn’t watch the speech because I have the same aversion to listening to Obama as I do Bush, but Jeralyn thinks the speech will give him a “big bounce” over McCain. is this what we are down to? Speeches mean that much to us rather than deeds and actions?
Thank goodness for the ACLU! Who would have thought that the Democratic Party would sacrifice our constitutional rights to worship on the altar of Obama?
Isn’t it funny how Obama feels free to go anywhere and speechify yet he doesn’t think we have the same right to do so?
I’ll be watching on July 29th. And I’m willing to risk getting arrested if I can make it to Denver. (I’m trying to
raise airfare now. ) We WILL be seen and heard, one way or another.
masslib,
I think that a “big bounce” from this speech is just wishful thinking.
masslib- Jeralyn has lost all credibility… What a disappointment she has become. Sorry, but why is a speech in Germany going to give him a big bounce? I don’t buy it…
I probably won’t be able to make it to Denver but I expect to see a lot of innocent protesters get arrested and beaten by Obama and his police. This man is a nothing less than a dictator. To everyone who plans to go to Denver: Be Safe. Obama and the DNC will stop at nothing to squash any signs of dissent within a mile of the Pepsi Center. They’ll probably try to find a way to keep Clinton delegates and supporters from even entering the arena. Obamabots will be paid to fill the Pepsi Center and cheer for their messiah while everyone else is left to protest in the dark far, far away. This country is no longer a democracy.
gary, did you see this snarky article by John Kass on media bias? I apologize if it’s repeat.
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/columnists/chi-kass-23-jul23,0,1832802.column
Whoever is going to the PUMA planning session in DC and/or Denver, please make counter plans around this “free-speech” cage. Perhaps we can findo out where the SDs are staying and speak to them shere they live. perhaps with Soooooo many people coming to this event, some alternate location will become the “hot spot” for people (sorta like how Confluence is the new hot spot for disaffected Ex Cheetohs).
Everyone needs to have a list of phone numbers in their pockets and each person needs to have at least two others officially looking out for them.
And bring cameras. Lots of cameras.
funny Jeralyn says that, cosidering the headline at foxnews.com right now:

BTD and Jeralyn are in the tank for Obama. They aren’t as bad as TM though who just attacks PUMAs now. Jeralyn at least blames some things to Obama instead of the voters but I can see both her and BTD becoming Obamabots as the race goes on. They just want to see a Dem in the White House even if it means voting for a Bush clone with a (D) after his name. I have also noticed that their visitors and comments have gone down a lot. The people who used to frequent these sites now have PUMA and the hundreds of blogs on Just Say No Deal to visit. It’s sad to see good liberal sites turn all Obamabot and lose their readership.
here’s the poll here.
http://www.foxnews.com/projects/pdf/FoxPoll.pdf
funny, it finds same result as rasmussen. over 80% of Rep back McCain, only 74% of Dems back obama. notice the 15% in the DK/other for dems. you think that might be PUMAs?
One of the supposed “rapid responders” is bragging at DailyKos about infiltrating the P.U.M.A.’s.

Yeah, i like them both but BTD is psyched that Obama is a media darling while I am disgusted by the media’s overzealous actions to sell us their preffered candidate. They were not nearly this bad with Bush. I really don’t think that is good for democracy, Left or Right. it’s a core principle with me. I don’t say oh hey at least it’s a Democrat they are stuffing down our throat. You know, I abhor Bush’s policies, but more than that I abhor his hubris. And, I see the same thing in Barack Obama ten fold. And, I just don’t think that’s good for the country, Left or Right. Bill Clinton was always a democrat and never an authoritarian leader. No hubris. I was expecting that kind of leadership after 8 years of Bush from any Democrat, and now they want to nominate a narcassist?
I think for the GE, there will actually be less Dem votes for Obama than these polls indicate. During the primaries, Obama support in polls was overstated. Clinton usually outperformed the polls. (Remember, Obama was supposed to win a number of states that Clinton actually won, including Wisconsin & California.)
gary: thanks for the data. Good news. And we’re not even proseletyzing! So far, people have had to go out of their ways to Just Say No Deal.
Hillary lost Wisconsin. WI was the high point of the Obama campaign. it was all downhill from there.
I’ll bet that Obama will be the first candidate ever to lose points after a national convention.

I agree with you masslib. I just want the media to be fair and honest. I don’t want them favoring candidate whether they are Republicans or Democrats. The media’s job is to report the news and let the voters decide. When liberals like BTD begin to embrace the corruption of a biased media, our side is no better than the Republicans. It especially bothers me that BTD and others can embrace a media that has destroyed so many Democrats like Al Gore and Clinton and simply forgive them because they worship Obama who is the most corrupt candidate for president I have ever seen in the Democratic Party.
It really is a core principle that Democrats should not like this type of corruption in our party or in the media. It scares me that Obama has turned Democrats into robots who will accept any kind of low life proposition in order to win these days.
Oops! meant Indiana.
The image of everyone listening to this big speech is important to Obama supporters because that’s a big reason for their support – “everyone else is, can’t you see this is a happening?”
Oh, did I mention he’s black?
Seriously, I’d like to see one, just one damned article or letter to the editor or something that doesn’t make that a key issue, or blame others for voting against him because he’s different?
I remember back in the good old days when Liberals were criticizing Republicans for the “free speech” zones.

Jeralyn drank the kool-aid in June.
What keeps me sane is the swing state polling by realclearpolitics. McCain is up, up.
Some of those words will bite him in the a$$ such as the “mistakes” we made. They’ll be rerun by republicans for sure.
Where I am, my friend, who is a Ca. State delegate (There are two per Congressional District.), says she has heard we should expect a floor fight. Also, fifteen superdelegates have switched to Hillary since July 1.

It is scary.
I think Murphy has the right idea, bus in as many (non-violent) supporters as poss. The ideal would be 75,000, or at least too many to fit into that cage.
JUST WONDERING..SINCE OBAMA IS ASHAMED OF AMERICANS BECAUSE WE DONT SPEAK A FORIEGN LANGUAGE, DID HE SPEAK ANY ON HIS WORLD TOUR PHOTO OP? WAS HIS SPEECH IN GERMANY SPOKEN IN GERMAN? NOT THAT IT MATTERS SINCE GERMANS HAVE HEARD HIS RHETORIC BEFORE..IN 1939

Has anyone read about the gas that the riot police are testing for the demonstration?
is it a kool-aid aerosol?
I want my tear gas spray in Tropical Punch, thanks!
In our lifetimes, Gary? No free speech and cages huh?
Screw the Dems little fascist fest.
I’m for McCain! — look the Repubs don’t seem to need all that!

I haven’t blogged in a while as this is my busiest time of year..for work….but I have been reading every day and paraticipating in the daily puma actions.
Hillary is coming to my home town of east Hampton for a fundraiser for her debt at a private home.. The minimum is $250 to attend. I have already given as much as I feel comfortable, but I am contemplating the opportunity to meet her and perhaps ask some pointed questions.
I need to balance this vs either giving money for Denver or ACTUALLY gping to Denver. The thought that the money and the time would be wasted in a “cage” is off putting…but, that of course is the point. It only matters if there are enough to overwhem the cages and I don’t think that can happen.
What to do…what to do????
I last travelled to a political demonstration when I was in college and attended an anti war demonstration in DC. That was when we still had a draft and people were very serious about not wanting to die in vietnam! It seemed like the whole country was there.
Today’s mention in the times was a huge success. Congratulations and thanks to those who are working so hard and giving so much to fight this fascism.

OK, color me confused. The ACLU is asking that the ‘free speech zone’ be moved? When did they acquiesce that free speech is to be contained in zones? I must have missed that constitutional amendment.
What would happen to a person standing quietly on a sidewalk wearing a ‘Nobama’ T-shirt near the arena? This exercise of free speech would be subject to pepper spray and arrest? What the hell country is this again?
What a piece of work.
What next? Camps for dissenters?

The criticism about Obama’s protest sign ban didn’t just come from “the left”. It came from the SPD, an equivalent to the democratic party.
