Tuesday: Phoning it in

Barack Obama was supposed to attend a fund raiser in Charlotte last night, but due to “mechanical problems” his plane was diverted to St. Louis.  Call me skeptical, but this seems a little fishy to me.  Was there not any other plane to get Sen. Obama to Charlotte from St. Louis?  Maybe he was just too tired and wanted to get his ego stroked by his good buddy Claire.

Regardless of the reason, Obama didn’t decide to reschedule, appear late, or cancel the event (and give up the money?  Never!).  So in typical Obama fashion he phoned it in.  And if the speech he gave is any indication, downticket Dems have much to be worried about.  See, this function was about them.  He was supposed to be there for Senate candidate Kay Hagan, and Gubernatorial candidate Bev Perdue.  They need a strong candidate at the top of the ticket to help them get elected.  I think they have a lot to be worried about. From Obama’s “phone speech”:

Finally I want to make sure that I acknowledge Lieutenant Governor Bedford who was going to be the next Governor of North Carolina. She is running an outstanding race and I think she’s going to have a chance to address all of you before this thing is over.

Yeah, just one small problem with that.  Her name is not Bedford.  It is Beverly Perdue.  And she “was” going to be the next governor?  Oh, she “was” going to be the next governor until you became the presumptuous nominee!  I’m sure Ms. Perdue was thrilled by that blunder.  Several months ago I would have said she was a shoe-in to win.  Not any more.  This is going to be a disastrous year for Democrats, and if by some cruel twist of fate we end up with Obama as President, I am afraid we can only expect four more years of “phoning it in”.

  1. Oh, crap. That is so typical of Obama.

I wonder when the corporate media will start noticing that Obama is a carbon copy of George W. Bush? The narcissism, the insincerity, the arrogance, and most of all – the Bama-isms…

  2. Hooked On Phonics: help Obama needs to believe in.

  3. America Unleashes a Monster

By now, even the people living under rocks have heard about Obama’s forged birth certificate. This is worrisome for a number of reasons. First off, that he and/or his campaign staff thought the general public was that stupid/gullible (well, on second thought, he DOES have a lot of supporters, maybe a lot of them ARE that stupid.), and secondly why on earth would they feel that they needed to submit a forgery? Is he a native US citizen or not? Or is this about his name? or his parent’s religion? Either way, it is a reasonable thing to look at since after all, there is that little legal requirement that he be a native US citizen, and not just a naturalized one. One person put up a website for an online petition calling for the REAL birth certificate to be released, but within hours of it going up, someone, using the site operator’s home address, left a veiled threat against the site operator and his family.

What are Americans going to do about this? I called DHS , I Called THE AG office this type of mob fear tactics has to be STOP. We set passively and let this crap happen WAKE THE HELL UP

  4. Note to down ticket Dems:
Invite Obama to campaign for you at your own risk.

  5. Here in West Virginia, which Obama has written off because we’re all racists, my congress member is a Republican (the other 2 are Dems). Every year a Dem challenges her and loses.

This year I thought that with Hillary heading the ticket, we could finally win back this seat for the Dems. But if Obama heads the ticket, we will lose here again, because WV will go for McCain – WHO HASN’T WRITTEN US OFF!

  6. WTF? WTF? He can’t even get it together to say, read from a cue card while he speaks over the phone? He can’t even get their names right?

Why the hell are Democrats, SDs, whatever, supporting him?

I’m just amazed. How did this man make it through school?

And note, the two people he stood up…. women. Why am I Not surprised?

  7. First, I am a Hillary supporter, proud PUMA and avid reader of Anglachel, Alegre and Riverdaughter. But you’re off base on this one, Gary.

the plane in question is a DC9/MD80. the rear escape chute apparently deployed at altitude-an event that could have produced catastrophic results for the aircraft (and pax). the experience of a several thousand foot nose-down plunge is one that even the hardiest of fliers would not soon wish to repeat. (if you look at the MWA website, their logo appears to be a photo of exactly that!)

I think it’s doubtful that a substitute plane could have been made available on short notice-even a smaller one. but it does raise an opportunity to talk about the airworthiness of the US aviation fleet, given that much maintenance has been offshored to third parties who work on contract, without the union protection and oversight of the carriers who fly the planes. betcha we won’t be hearing about that from BO.

  8. This is hilarious. Or would be, if he wasn’t headed for the Presidency.

  9. Susan, I’m sorry, but are you telling me that Obama couldn’t have gotten on another plane? That is ridiculous. I’m not even a Presidential candidate and I bet I could have found another plane. Obama is supposed to be flush with cash. Give me a break.

  10. sorry susan, I guess I was intending that to be more snark than speculation. Although I still believe if he thought it was REALLY important, he would have found a way to get there. The astonishing part to me is that he couldn’t even be bothered to get the candidates name right (and he was on thePHONE–he could have been reading directly from a script) I think it shows he really doesn’t care much about downticket dems…just himself.

  11. Please, please make it stop…

after 8 years of muting the president, I can’t do another 8.

As far as I can see, the ONLY thing this guy does is give derivative speeches (and I don’t even listen to or enjoy those). He doesn’t debate well, he doesn’t know facts, he isn’t clear about policy, direction, or personnel. If he can’t remember a woman’s name that he is en route to campaign for–and can’t even read it correctly on THE PHONE!–then how, exactly, is he going to understand the intricacies of the military, the environment, or the economy???

    WHERE’S HILLARY?! QUICK!

  12. susan, that flight was nowhere near as hair-raising as you paint it. The crew never even declared an emergency. They just asked for a diversion due to mechanical problems.

Please cite your source for the “several thousand foot nose-down plunge”. Had that actually happened you can bet the crew would have declared an emergency.

Using the most conservative estimates of time to get from the private terminal in STL to the main one after landing at 9:51 AM, there were a minimum of four commercial flights that would have gotten him to Charlotte in time to campaign for the folks downticket. We won’t even mention the plethora of charter aircraft available at one of the major US hubs.

Of course, you can’t expect a man to go the extra mile for someone whose name he doesn’t even remembers.

  13. Come to think of it, what were they doing diverting to STL in the first place? That is NOT a reasonable alternate for a flight from Chicago to Charlotte. Supposedly the problem occurred immediately after take-off. Why would they not turn back to ORD? Why fly for over an hour to reach an alternate that’s not even on your way?

There’s more to this than we’re being told.

  14. maybe Perdue or Hagan did something that displeased his majesty….

  15. Everyone, please write the SuperDs today. They, at least in North Carolina, seem to be of the opinion that we’re all united because they’re no longer receiving messages from Hillary supporters. Let them know this is not the case.

  16. This is a gift given to PUMA….he can’t even get the name right while on the F-ing phone???

Down ticket Dems, YOUR asses are on the line….do we have your attention now?

  17. Well, the last time the NC Dems called me, couple weeks ago, I told them they would get no more money out of me until the FLA/Mich problem was fairly addressed and also told them I would only be voting for downticket Dems who did not endorse Obama. (Apparently several WNC Dems are still hanging tough with Clinton). Haven’t heard back from them. I’m not sure I’ll vote for Perdue tho I have never voted for a GOPer guv. My ballot this year may contain a lot of blanks or votes for alternate candidates.

  18. creeper, STL is close enough to ORD for a quick diversionary landing, and I highly doubt that a commercial flight would have been possible-if you’ve flown recently, you know how full they are. could you imagine the braying of the MSM if BO had bumped pax from a commercial flight to get to Charlotte?

as a Tar Heel myself, I am not happy with the gaffe on Bev’s name. but perhaps it’s a wake up to them that this guy is not in their corner. I plan to remind Kay of that as well with my next donation.

  19. Peg in WV: at least Don Blankenship & Massey should be very happy this year, don’t you think. Shelley Moore Capito is one of Don’s own.

  20. In defense of Obama (snark), maybe he has ADD since he can’t focus on things for very long?

  21. The best way to hit the downticket dems is to make it clear that they won’t have your vote if they don’t either back off or speak up. They don’t care about the big up, they only care that they get your vote.

  22. Gary, Obama probably learned these tricks from Mayor Daley. As a lifelong resident of the Chicago area, I can tell you that the whole Daley family is parochial beyond belief–not to mention, just plain stupid. The Daleys (father and son) have a long track record of making these kind of verbal blunders. It’s just Chicago-style politics-as-usual for Obama. Of course, at $28,000 per plate, there were probably only four people there to hear the gaffe. Thanks for the report. What an embarassment this man is.

  23. Kay Hagan called me. Probably because I am on a maxed out donor list. I told her I wasn’t going to give to any Dems unless they spoke out against RBC decision. I told Hagan about PUMA and gave her the web address to the confluence.
So I can’t speak about other NC Dems, but I know Hagan knows who we are now.

  24. Gary,
I sure that in Obamian, he will say re: press coverage of this latest gaff:

“Puzzling”: The speaker uses this word when a mainstream press outlet calls attention to one of his gaffs. The term signifies that the speaker is not amused, and is intended to convey a vague threat or menace.

  25. Poor Bev Perdue; she endorsed Obama before the primary, so she really is tied to him.

  26. One person put up a website for an online petition calling for the REAL birth certificate to be released, but within hours of it going up, someone, using the site operator’s home address, left a veiled threat against the site operator and his family.

FYI: It’s possible to register a website using something called “private registration”. Otherwise, online registrars publish the name and address of anyone who registers a URL on something called WHOIS, and it’s available to the public.

Actually, it’s a good idea to use private registration no matter what, since spam-spiders love to hang out on WHOIS and harvest folks’ email addresses for their assorted scams. Many registrars offer it, including Yahoo and Network Solutions. If a registrar won’t let you use private registration, maybe you could get them to let you edit your administrative and technical content info to reflect the registrar’s own physical address.

Just some $.02 to assist folks trying to organize online free from bullying by the Obama folks.

  27. Hey – they are women candidates – why would he make the extra effort?

  28. Regencyg, yeah.

Its time to send out another round of superdelegate letters. They don’t read here.

  29. Lots & lots of beautiful young people at Mile High Stadium. The only unbeautiful, unyoung folks there will be the delegates.

  30. Maybe he was modeling another pair of tight jeans while making his speech into the telephone, as we saw previously on video. As he was twirling around to show off his butt for the female crew members, he mistakenly said “Bedford” instead of “Perdue.” There are so many demands on The Precious these days. Why can’t he just eat his waffle and twirl?

Perdue, Bedford–what’s the difference when we’re all united as one?

  31. KENDALBLUE

goodmorning Puma family… The more time that passes, the more I know deep in my heart that our cause is a fight worth fighting for. A MOVEMENT THAT must BE WAGED. A mission much larger than we are as individuals. My anger jumps off the rictor scale very often, and I must constantly remind myself to channel that energy into the work we must do. The chalenges we must conquer. And the bridges we must build to take back not only the process, but our country from those who want to defy the constitution and silence our voices. For me, this is not just a protest of what happened to Hillary, but possibly one of the most historical movements all of us will make in the history of this great nation. The nation that belongs to us,
(the people). When we feel disillusioned , frustrated, and knocked down, we must remember what it is that we are doing to bring about change and justice for ALL the people who have been pushed aside. Strength in numbers is a powerful thing. And remember. We will not go away silently, or just fall in line. We are many, we are strong, and we are UNITED.

  32. How do you expect the COOLEST MOST AWESOMIST man running for Prezznit of the COOLEST MOST AWESOMIST country on the COOLEST MOST AWESOMIST planet to remember every woman’s name?

Calling her “sweetie” would’ve been just fine.

  33. Is there any possibilty that obama has early alzheimer’s disease? He is about the right age for the onset. The dumb mistakes he makes are not normal.

    COUNTRY BEFORE PARTY ALWAYS

    PUMA RULES

  34. “I highly doubt that a commercial flight would have been possible-if you’ve flown recently, you know how full they are.”

I’m a retired airline reservations agent and widow of an airline transport pilot. With seven airlines, at least four charter companies and all day to work with there’s no way he should have missed that rally.

As for Saint Louis being a valid alternate, it’s hard to make a case for that given its 90° deviation from a Chicago-Charlotte flight path. Indianapolis, Cincinnati and Louisville are all on a direct line.

What did Barack Obama do while he was in Saint Louis?

  35. Wowzer… he couldn’t even get her name right. Whatta jerk – and this was supposed to be a fundraiser for her.

Good thing he phoned it in. If he’d actually shown up he would have seen the stunned look on the faces of everyone in that audiance.

I sure hope you’re wrong about that plane RD. I was thinking aout who’s still on BHOs short list and if he runs with Sebaleous it would be a disaster of a ticket – not to mention a slap in the face of every female HillFan out there.

  36. This total disregard for downticket dems reminds me of a story I read on Blue Lyon yesterday. Here is the gist of it:

“At least 20 employees of the Iowa Democratic Party have been demoted or fired and a coordinated state-wide campaign was essentially disbanded, replaced by a focus on the presidential bid of Sen. Barack Obama.

Details are sketchy, but the changes could have an impact on November’s legislative races, with field staff that was previously working for down-ticket races now being placed on the payroll of Obama’s presidential campaign and working almost entirely on its behalf.”

    http://bluelyon.wordpress.com/2008/07/07/ominous-development-for-down-ticket-dems/

  37. I am an elected precinct committeeman and after we worked to get Obama as candidate for the Senate we then made requests that he appear and help our local Democatic candidates. We were open to anytime any day, but no luck. My niece who worked in his campaign told us that unless it’s a fundraiser for him, he won’t or will not make the time to appear.

What a loser he is. That’s when my dislike for him started.

  38. “Puzzling”: The speaker uses this word when a mainstream press outlet calls attention to one of his gaffs. The term signifies that the speaker is not amused, and is intended to convey a vague threat or menace.

The Opossum uses “puzzling” the way Karl Rove & Company use “troubling.”

  39. Let’s see.

He thinks there are 58 states.

He thinks Jerusalem is the capital of Israel.

He thinks the Great Lakes are somewhere out west, despite the fact that Chicago’s perched right on the shore of Lake Michigan.

He can’t remember the name of the candidate he’s supposedly on his way to support.

ADD? Early-onset Alzheimer’s? FAS? Just plain dumb?

BO reminds me more and more of W every day. The difference is I think W’s always known he’s a tool. BO believes his own hype and has the vanity to go with it. That’s a dangerous combination.

  40. OMG, gary, say it ain’t so. he called her “Bedford.” at least he didn’t refer to her by the derogatory pet name on jones street — “dumpling.”

  41. well, like someone said further up, at least he didn’t call her sweetie!

  42. I read the news reports and from what I gathered they were having trouble maintaining pitch on the aircraft. Even checked out raw footage from a STL teevee station.

I do not believe he could not have gotten another aircraft, with a possible delay involved. There are many companies out there that charter aircraft. He might not have gotten an MD80/DC9 but he could have gotten a corporate-type jet like Gulfstream, Falcon or something. No, he could not have gotten his entire entourage on one of those but he could have gotten his secret service detail and him on one of those.

  43. I wonder when the corporate media will start noticing that Obama is a carbon copy of George W. Bush?

They already have. Why else would they be fellating him 24/7?

  44. maybe BO needs to phone-a-friend…so much for being the great orator…

  45. hey, y’all. Charlotte’s a hub. He coulda gotten here if he’d wanted to. I’m sure any airline would have accomodated him if at all possible.

I didn’t vote for old Bev in the primary because she jumped on the bandwagon and endorsed Obama before the vote. Guess the chickens have come home to roost, eh Bev?

Last time the Dems called me for money I had a grand old time telling them I had left the party over the disgraceful primary season. The poor woman seemed completely flummoxed, although she did say she’d take my name off the list.

  46. oh, and the only reason Kay Hagan gets my vote is because I LOATHE Liddy Dole.

  47. If anyone is so inclined, please let it be known everywhere you go that if there is no roll call at the Convention there may well be a walkout by the Clinton delegates. Very important. Warn your superdelegates. They deserve to know. Warn the Obamabots too that we may be about to ruin their coronation.

  48. Julie, I’m with you on Bev, but I’m still not sure about Hagan. She called my partner last week and claimed to know nothing about PUMA or why we might have a problem with the Party. He gave her an earful and said she would call him back. If she blows him off, she’s lost both our votes….

  49. Oh, but I won’t vote for Liddy, I promise! aren’t her ads the worst!!!!

  50. Opossum does as Opossums do. He seems to think he is the star of a moovie, and he didn’t even bone up for the gig – no background work done. None needed as he is backed by Corporate and they will pay anthing to have another Bu$h in the WH.

I live in NC – I told Bev Purdue I would not be voting for her in the primary and I did not and I told her why I would not be voting for her. She is one of those vapid people who stated Opossum had such good “judgement”. (W)right! And a wonderful record too. His campaign ad here in NC is a fairy tale for real.

Not only should Hillary’s delegates walk out of the converntion but we long time Dem’s should be getting ourselves an attorney to sue for dishonesty, sunshine laws for RBC. There are many more than 18 million of us. As time went on and more was knows about him, people were repelled by him – I mean total lack of experience, inability to answer questions on policy and now, what he did state was his policy – has been changed.

I am all “wrote out” – I have written, called my reps., the DNC, the nut Brazile, Dean, Kennedy, etc. since March – no change. I will not vote for a Dem now that supported Opossum nor contribute to anyone other than Hillary. I will never forget this and I will seek out actions to take against them. Some people call it being bitter, revenge – I call it righteous indignation and an insult to my intelligence and my country. I take it personal – I’m just that kind of person. After 8 years of lies, unnecessary deaths, no rule of law – I’ll not stand for my own party to do worse. I do not think I can vote for a rethug – but I will wait and see what will do the most damage.

  51. I heard from one of Clinton’s $ raisers today who is also a delegate that there is concern re the “tone” of Clinton delegates around the country. I have to assume this means an amplified discontent.

If you don’t mind I have shortened my name here and would like to continue with the shortened version, unless that is not cool.

  52. It’s a real shame that Obama can’t remember the name of one of his big NC backers. Bev Perdue should have backed HIllary. I really had a hard time voting for her because she supported him. Obviously he’s not very concerned about supporting her bid.

  53. Why are we surprised he’d phone it in? He did say several weeks ago, “we don’t need the people, we just need their checks,” didn’t he?
One of the most quotable quotes from this entire election, imho. And it pretty much sums up not only BHO’s entire philosophy on life, but the DNC’s as well.

And they wonder why we all might “stay home” on election day?
Not really staying home, but MARCHING IN THE STREETS ON NOV. 4.

  54. I have no idea how all of this is going to work out, but I have faith in all of us if we stick together. We can’t let BO take the presidency. If he can’t get the “simple” things correct, what would he do if he were leader of this nation. We’d be at war with the world if he’s addressing foreign nations. At best, we’d all be laughing stocks for voting him in.

He makes me afraid and ashamed at the same time. One could almost feel sorry for him if he wasn’t so evil.

  55. If The Fraud insists on phoning it in, ( please give me a break ) than he could, at least, try and make a wee bit of an effort to get the name right!!
The Fraud, Mr Nobama, is the most arrogant, inexperienced, corrupt candidate I’ve ever seen! God Help us all if he gets elected!!!

  56. I tell you I think he is still doing drugs.

  57. I am not surprised you know he is the candiate that is better with women’s issues. Yeah he is a bozo who just keeps up his sexism.
