The past two days have been amazing ones for PUMAs. We are energized and excited. Yesterday we celebrated our first full month of existence. Look at how much has happened in just this one month.
Meanwhile, Barack Obama has been rapidly disappointing his most ardent supporters. Ariana is outraged. Markos has pulled back the maxed-out donation he was about to make to Obama’s campaign today. Vastleft has withdrawn his (admittedly very tepid) endorsement. Big Tent Democrat threatened to withdraw his too. Now, just hours later, BTD has been mollified for now based on a statement by Obama’s campaign about what Obama really meant. What will Lambert do?
And who will Obama throw under the bus next? Hmmm…already under the bus: women, old people, baby boomers, the Clinton Administration, his grandmother, Rev. Wright, Fr. Phleger, Tony Rezko, Samantha Power, various and sundry other staff members, the LGBT community, muslims, supporters of Israel, Appalachia, African American men, the Great Possum Seal, Cuban-Americans, Wesley Clark, Moveon.org, the fourth amendment, the establishment clause…who’s next? And will the Obama Campaign continue to self-destruct?
What are the superdelegates thinking tonight? I have to admit, I’m getting my hopes up for Denver in August. I think Marc Rubin is getting his hopes up too.
Speculate or talk among yourselves.

I have to say this: Obama’s “all things to all people” strategy seems to be a lot harder to pull off, now that the press is focusing on McCain Love rather than Hillary Hate.
It’s all going exactly as we foresaw…[evil laughter]
Madamab,
I’ve missed you! It’s good to see you.
I will hold off for the glee until a real misstep, but it is coming soon.
If only Katie Couric (yes, Katie Couric) would ask Obama: What kept you from your mother’s side when she was dying of cancer?
You forgot to add to the “Under the Bus” list: the Clinton/Gore administration of 1993-2001, which Obama thinks wasn’t very successful or influential.
you forgot the LGBT community we are under the bus too-DADT/ENDA-not a first term priority for President Obama

hi bostonboomer! I’m still in Aruba, blogging for a few minutes while my hubby naps.
I’ll be back on a more regular basis in a couple of days. Missed you too – and all the other wonderful Conflucians!

What was the Move On story? I keep seeing reference to it. But what happened?
He couldn’t keep the charade up forever. That’s why he was so anxious for Hillary to drop out.
How can anyone take him seriously?
Wanted: one real Democrat to represent the Democratic party. Who the hell is this imposter?
OK, I added more groups to the under the bus list. Oops! Forgot Move on.
Michael P – maybe! Certainly more bloviation in any case.
Time to go now – still vacationing!
[blowing air kisses]
Katiebird,
In his patriotism lecture yesterday, Obama made a negative comment about General Petraeus be called “Betrayus.”
BB, ah — they MUST be so proud of their endorsement now…..
Ah, we are not surprised. Stupid pipples come through every time.
Who paid the media to shove BO down the pipples throats? Could it be…..the Rethuglycans?
Someone needs to go smack Olbermann. All of a sudden, he’s mad. Tough Carp. Sux to be him. @@
PUMAS, word from the field:
From WomenCount PAC:
Dear Friends,
It is time to send a clear, unequivocal message – we have started a movement. The passion and energy that the Democratic primaries ignited is stronger than ever, and now it is our job – our responsibility – to put it to good use.
In the wake of this historic campaign, we have turned our focus to the urgent issues that still need to be addressed. We heard your outrage over the flagrant, often hostile, gender bias in the campaign. We will respond. We paid attention to your call for recognition of the votes and values of the 18 million people who supported Hillary Clinton. We will demand answers. We listened when Hillary proudly proclaimed, “There are no acceptable limits and there are no acceptable prejudices in the twenty-first century.” We will stand for none.
To be successful, we need you and millions more who feel like we all do. If you are still reeling from the sexism and discriminatory nominating process that was unveiled in this campaign, now more than ever, we need your voice. Signup at http://www.womencountpac.com and forward this message to all of your friends who feel the same way.
In only six weeks we have raised $500,000 and gathered thousands of supporters. WomenCount PAC has proven that we are a formidable force. We answered the call when there was a desperate need to stop the media and the Democratic Party in their tracks. Our “Not So Fast” ad got their attention, along with rave reviews from women across the country. We are working around the clock to ensure that the movement will have the maximum impact and effectiveness. Stay tuned for the launch of our next campaign – you’ll have a big role to play.
Remember, 18 million cracks is only the beginning.
Join our movement.
Together, we will shatter the ceiling!

{{GASP!}} Is Markos a racist now? Why isn’t he worshipping The Precious?!?! He must be a latent racist, that’s the only conclusion I can come to. He simply does not want a black man to assume the office of the president. It’s obvious to me now. We need to go back through everything he has ever said or written with a fine tooth comb and find evidence of this hateful character flaw in Markos. I’m *sure* it’s there.
If he keeps this up, Obama may achieve Unity after all. How long will it take before we’re ALL under the bus?

SM- I’m sorry, that’s my elbow and Michael please do keep an eye on Nancy and Howard. Could someone please get some fans to take care of the heat and fumes.
as far as I can tell the first, second and fourth amendments are under the bus …
Don’t get your hopes up. Obama will be the nominee-the odds that Hillary (or anyone else) will get the nomination are much closer to “none” than “slim.”
And it is quite possible the GOP brand is so damaged that even Obama can beat McCain.
I’m opposed to Obama being the nominee or President. But Reality is what it is, and I’m not going to kid myself either. I’ll leave that to the Obamabots. We should fight the fight because it is worth fighting, not because we expect to win.
Who’s got room to sit? We’re all a mangled mess worse than a Twister Game on Mardi Gras.
bboomer, in tomorrow’s installment of unity video Obama throws the first ammendment under the bus….stay tuned, and in mawm’s its the 2nd ammendment….
I’m waiting for Patrick Fitzgerald to speak.
I think we should have a contest. Which Kool-Aid drinker’s inevitable repudiation of Obama will prove the most satisfying to one’s sense of schadenfreude?
My choice is John Aravosis at AmericaBlog. I’m curious as to what a cyber-anyeurism looks like.
This is one of my favorite stories (in a week filled with presents) for the week:

[UPDATE] Riverdaughter mentions down-thread that Alegre told her there are questions about the validity of this story.
So as she says, until we get the information verified, we shouldn’t spread it around and I removed the link.
i’m just hoping he doesn’t think that the entire constitution is under the bus, or we women might not get to vote this election
Gee… would’nt it be a nice “change” f rom “politics as usual”; if both sides could run candidates that don’t
just play to their bases for the primary’s then go to the center for the general??

Unfortunately the democrats “HAD HILLARY”; but the

Loved your videos, I know they are slow to process but it’s great you are giving us a little each day. It’s definitely a documentary-in-the-making!
Don’t forget that the Great Seal of O’Possum is also now under the bus.
When we say TV anchors/pundits are not only reporting, but are making news, we are disparaging those shows. But I think those same people actually like that charge; they like to be seen as an energy source, where things are “happening.” In that vein, doesn’t TV news just look flat and boring now that Hillary is gone, and many of us aren’t paying any attention? I have cancelled my cable, and I miss it surprisingly little.
Much of the time, there is so much more energy, more happening, more news here at our little web site. Whatever happens, I’m not going back to those blogs or news people. I’ll never trust them again. Even if we cease to be important, I trust the honesty of this site.
Hey, don’t forget the Italians under the bus….we are only “garlic noses” remember?
I saw this at Alegre’s Corner – Kos is a Puma!. Me thinks Democrats may soon unite against Obama and the party leadership. Maybe now they’ll listen to us. Can you imagine a party and a government that actually is beholden to the people.
Katiebird – CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT???
How can feminists like that ObamaFembot Amanda Marcotte defend this?? Sure she can trashtalk and smear – but how can she defend this??

Greetings:
While we are talking about the many people Obama has thrown under the bus, it reminds me that John Edwards, whom I previously had admired, threw Hillary Clinton under the bus when he endorsed BO for political expediency. I guess he wants to be attorney general really bad. It does not appease me much that Elizabeth seems to have been in solidarity with Clinton.
In any case, thank you for an incisive and sharp running commentary on the state of political affairs. I am going to add you to my blog roll. Please feel free to add me.

The great seal I almost forgot!!! How could I???? My Republican parents asked if BO thought he had already won. (They were for Hillary despite the fact they have never voted for a Dem).
I don’t think much of the puppetmasters at this point, they were stupid enough to think he had morals when everything in his friggin history screams opportunist …
Kos can kiss my bitter old typical white woman ass!
It is like I have said all along…will the real slim shady please stand up?!
I am getting more and more excited for the convention. You did see there is no more obama on Hillary’s website. Only a contribute button for her now. there is a plan I tell ya!! It is not over. This will be the biggest comeback in history….er….herstory

when will americans get a grip, get over their self-infatuation, and realize that what we need is not a messiah, but a sensible problem-solver who will look at what’s wrong, analyze it, and start working towards solutions. please!
hope and change – wonderful concepts, no argument there – but so naive in our particular situation right here, right now.
it’s so much easier to stomach Hillary’s ideas that you don’t quite 100% agree with when you know her other ideas that you really do like. when you know nothing except abstract ideas – hope! change! – then yikes, each idea really does have to be looked at. so far they kinda suck. and there’s nothing concrete and good to balance them with.
prplvette85
I hope your right!!
** Don’t forget the “staffer” that was the one to “write” on the “gun form”; not Obama!
I wonder “if” all the “staffers” that make mistakes are the female “under-paid” ones??
Just found Kos’s “piss off” missive to Obama today. I gather it’s unofficial policy here not to link to the Daily Cheeto–for reasons I fully support–but I thought everyone would like to savor the majesty of the Cheeto-in-Chief’s pronouncement.
It looks like Obama is gun-shy after sticking by Jeremiah Wright. Now, he can’t move quickly enough to denounce his own allies. So he’s cross at Wes Clark, and he’s mighty cross at MoveOn as well! Who else will he be cross with as he kicks off “Operation Piss Off the People Supporting and Bankrolling His Campaign In Order To Prove He Hates the Dirty Fucking Hippies”. Now that the primary is over, he can turn his back on the people that brought him.
I was going to max out to him today, given I haven’t given Obama a dime yet (focusing on congressional candidates). But I changed my mind. He wants to send the message that he doesn’t need us, all the power to him. Message received. I’ll spend that $2,300 somewhere else.
Update: I’m curious as to why people think that me saying I won’t give Obama my $2,300 somehow means I’m undermining him. When he gives me a reason to open up my wallet, I will. But I also refuse to reward bad behavior.
When Republicans lost Congress in 2006, Rush Limbaugh bleated that he was happy, that he no longer needed to “carry water” for the GOP. Me, I’ll never carry water for our team. I’ll reward good behavior, and trash bad behavior.
If you want sycophancy, this isn’t your place.
SM,
How can Amanda Marcotte defend it? Easy. She is no feminist.
Pol C – I second John Aravosis should he turn – schadenfreude to nth degree. I exchanged a number of emails with him – he called me every name in the book. He came across like a 10-yr old. He might have issues deeper than Obama/Clinton.

Jmac, that’s easy to find out, you can look it up under his real name.
Jmac–
I just wandered over to AmericaBlog. Aravosis isn’t in his standard gone-nuclear mode yet, but Obama’s faith-based initiative support has got him mighty uneasy.
Don’t forget Obama’s now under the bus: He’s not the Obama he once knew.
Ooh, ooh! I have one!
For any woman who is wondering how a feminist is supposed to vote for McCain, I have a guaranteed Real E-Zee algorithm to make your choice a simple one. (Note: This algorithm assumes a two-party system.)
Here you go — guaranteed way to make sure you as a feminist and a woman are making the most sensible choice for a feminist woman:
1) Determine which candidate has the support of the majority of 20-something males.
2) VOTE FOR THE OTHER GUY.
Any questions? This ain’t rocket science, ladeez.
Okay, so your BF/husband/fuckbuddy/BFF/whatEVER isn’t like that and you’re so totally appalled at the sexism of my comment. Look, your guy is in the minority of 20-something males, and I’m sure he’s great and does the laundry every other time and aren’t you lucky.
For for your sanity and the safety of your life, your paycheck, and your genitals, VOTE FOR THE OTHER GUY. Doesn’t matter who he is, doesn’t matter what he stands for. find the candidate backed by the majority of 20-something young men, and PICK THE OTHER ONE!
The only office Bill Richardson is fit for is the Ministry of Silly Walks.
Obama went to Zanesville OH to announce to those bitter gun toting bible thumpin’ poor people that he wants to expand GWB’s faith based initiatives . That what people in Appalachia want. We want to our hard tax dollar given to the church. How about a job. How about some help with the foreclosure crisis.
Hear, hear. How about investing in green-collar jobs.. Oh, wait, that was Hillary’s plan.
McCain’s military record is not finally the point. The point is that McCain has spent his entire adult life serving our country. The military service is a part of that.
Obama was a Senator for what? a few hundred days ?? before he announced.
McCain has proven that he loves and is devoted to America. THAT’S the qualification.
the best thing is James Carville can stop payment on Obama check- he he he
Michael Fuzzybear,
Richardson is a JOKE! He couldn’t even deliver his own state! A chick beat him in his own state! They SWEAR that RIchardson is going to deliver the Latino vote. HAAA!!
The organization that can make MAYBE a dent in the Latino vote is LULAC. They are FIGHTERS.
GWB’s faith based initiatives, why not expand on this brilliant idea!!!! It did wonders for the homeless shelters. Imagine living in O-town, FL and being homeless and the only shelter with openings requires you to sign a pledge to pray 2x’s a day inorderto receive shelter. Yeh, let’s not help people get back on their feet by providing counseling, employment training and food. Make them pray, that will solve their problems.
Axelrod must be hypnotized by Obama’s campaign cash–he’ll straight-up BUY the election. He wants to make sure his guy remains an inoffensive a pile of middle-of-the-road mush. No sense in taking any chances. Let the money do the talking.
Can you say loser?
d g, you don’t understand. That “Kansas” book told him that the simple folk in the heartland vote their bibles, not their pocketbooks. Gosh, don’t you read?
What a freakin tool that guy is.
SM, you are on a roll tonight. Lots of chuckles and head-nodding in response from me. Thanks. I always feel feistier reading the comments here. Good for the soul.
Obama lies and flip flops on Welfare Reform:
http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/06/obama-shifts-on.html
“ABC News’ Teddy Davis and Gregory Wallace Report: Barack Obama aligned himself with welfare reform on Monday, launching a television ad which touts the way the overhaul “slashed the rolls by 80 percent.” Obama leaves out, however, that he was against the 1996 federal legislation which precipitated the caseload reduction.
“I am not a defender of the status quo with respect to welfare,” Obama said on the floor of the Illinois state Senate on May 31, 1997. “Having said that, I probably would not have supported the federal legislation, because I think it had some problems.”
He can lie and lie and lie and still get away with it. I remember when a statement “Read my lips, no new taxes” lost Bush Sr his second term. I remember when at a minimum the American People expected the apprearance of honesty. Obama doesn’t even try to hide that he is liar.
I hear Obama has been hanging out with James Dobson and Rick Warren. Dobson is the guy who believes in beating kids and dogs to teach them how to behave.
you know the check james carville wrote to O for A and tacked to his wall the one with all the holes in it?
fuzzybeargville
Yep, things ARE getting veeerrry interesting.
And, since bostonboomer was good enough to mention my friend Marc, co-founder (with me) of The Denver Group, I’d like to give the link to that group here too.
We are trying very hard to raise enough money to run at least several ads, prepared by Marc, that we think will buck up Senator Clinton’s delegates and maybe give the superdelegates pause before they blindly vote for an unelectable nominee. See http://thedenvergroup.blogspot.com/ for more information.
NH,
Obama praised the welfare cuts in The Audacity of Hope. Did anyone else read it? Am I the only one with enough stick-to-it-iveness to plow my way through that pile of cr*p?

I plowed through it, but cannot recall anything…
Heidi: I’d be happy to put the link in the blogroll if it isn’t already there.

It is comfy under the bus, the wheels hardly scrape anymore.
bostonboomer, I read it and your review is accurate it was a pile of cr*p!!!!!
RD, I updated the comment and took out the link.
Kim,
We’re having a party under the bus. It’s the folks still on the bus that are in the dark. The superdelegates need to wake up, so lets turn up the lights and music down here.
Well, at least I’m glad a couple of other people read the book. I read it because I was sick of getting the run around from the Obamatrons at the cheeto. Then when I read it, I realized none of them had.
Oh, Kos was going to mail the check TODAY; wow, that was close! There’s been an Obama atrocity a day, but Kos just now is upset. He certainly is a slow one!
NH: re welfare reform, Obama says,”probably would not have supported..” Jeez, like I say, this guy can never come out and take a frigging position on anything! Everything is probably, I meant, my staff made a mistake, I will consider, anything that won’t stick to him.
Can we get some AC under here, it is hot or at least a cold beer?
BB- I think you may be the only one. I could not get throught the 3rd chapter without going WTF….this is the exact opposite of what I just read in the last chapter. I cant give that book away!
I love the way Obama threw Wes Clark to the wolves and then after he got a lot of criticism for it, he reversed course and claimed he wasn’t really talking about Clark in his speech.
When I received one of those update emails from the Clinton campaign, I wrote back and said that people weren’t donating because they thought the money was going to Obama. I suggested if they wanted people to help with her campaign debt they needed to make it clear that the money would only go to her.
Today, I heard they have scrubbed Obama from her website and her financial team has sent out an email about helping with her debt.
Maybe someone listened — maybe not but it looks like action is being taken on that front.
There was a woman who became a hero because one day she decided not to give up her seat at the front of the bus. I’m am happy to report that so many other women and men have followed her example, and have refused to be thrown under the bus.
prplvette85,
I didn’t read it straight through. I read chapters at different times and out of order, trying to find out if there was anything Obama really believed in. The answer is nothing except money and power.
Bonita, that’s a huge relief.
BB,
I didn’t read it, and don’t think I could at this point. Maybe in the future. Right now I have to turn the channel whenever he is on, and brace myself before reading any articles about him.
Someone here said, and I’m sorry I can’t give proper credit”, that they are sick and tired of listening to Obama preach to us. That is exactly how I feel. All these articles and its just Obama lectuing us. I really do detest the guy.
ghost2–
Here’s the Cheeto-in-Chief’s follow-up post on the topic. I was particularly struck by the line I’ve put in bold. Where was this attitude when the Obamarrhoids were disappearing our comments, choking up our diary comment sections with videos and images of defecating animals, and in some instances, getting sympathetic administrators to ban us from the site?
So many of you are upset that I pulled back my credit card last night, making a last minute decision to hold back on a $2,300 contribution to Obama. Let me explain further:
First of all, obviously Obama is a great candidate who is running a great 50-state race. That much cannot be denied. But he’s had a rough couple of weeks.
First, he reversed course and capitulated on FISA, not just turning back on the Constitution, but on the whole concept of “leadership”. Personally, I like to see presidents who 1) lead, and 2) uphold their promises to protect the Constitution.
Then, he took his not-so-veiled swipe at MoveOn in his “patriotism” speech.
Finally, he reinforced right-wing and media talking points that Wes Clark had somehow impugned McCain’s military service when, in reality, Clark had done no such thing.
All of a sudden, there was a lot of cowering when, just days ago, we got to read this:
Could’ve fooled me, and maybe he is. Maybe what looks like cowering to me is really part of that “moving to the center” stuff everyone keeps talking about. But there is a line between “moving to the center” and stabbing your allies in the back out of fear of being criticized. And, of late, he’s been doing a lot of unecessary stabbing, betraying his claims of being a new kind of politician. Not that I ever bought it, but Obama is now clearly not looking much different than every other Democratic politician who has ever turned his or her back on the base in order to prove centrist bona fides. That’s not an indictment, just an observation.
Now I know there’s a contingent around here that things Obama can do no wrong, and he must never be criticized, and if you do, well fuck you! I respect the sentiment, but will respectfully disagree. We’re allowed to do that here. But fair notice — I will never pull a Rush Limbaugh and carry water for anyone. Not for the Democratic Congress, and not for our future Democratic president. When anyone does something I don’t care for, I will say so. I’ve never pulled my punches before, so why start now?
Obama will be fine without my contribution, and he may even still get it before this thing is said and done, but it would be at a time when he has done something positive. That’s called rewarding good behavior. And if that opportunity fails to arise because Obama goes on a Sister Souljah’ing rampage, then no worries. Chances are good that the DNC would get the money instead. But at this time, I simply have no desire to reward bad behavior. Some of you don’t care about his behavior, or don’t think it’s bad behavior, or whatever. I didn’t ask any of you to follow suit, and don’t care whether you do or not. I didn’t pull him from the Orange to Blue list. I’m not going to start praising Nader or Barr. I’ll still vote for him. Yadda, yadda, yadda. At the end of the day, I’m pretty irrelevant in the whole affair. Obama is going to raise a ton of dough and win this thing whether I send him money or not.
Ultimately, he’s currently saying that he doesn’t need people like me to win this thing, and he’s right. He doesn’t. If they’ve got polling or whatnot that says that this is his best path to victory, so much the better. I want him to win big. But when the Obama campaign makes those calculations, they have to realize that they’re going to necessarily lose some intensity of support. It’s not all upside. And for me, that is reflected in a lack of interest in making that contribution.
That’s it. No need to freak out. It is what it is. Others will happily pick up the slack. We’re headed toward a massive Democratic wave, and what I decide to do with my money means next to nothing, no matter how much hyperventilating may happen on this site’s comments and diaries about it all.
And if for some crazy hard-to-see reason my money actually is important to the Obama campaign, then they can adjust their behavior to get it.
(tell me when it’s save to open my eyes again)
Why open your eyes when you can blindly follow? It’s so much more hopeful.
Here’s something else to consider…
Interesting things are afoot. I have heard on the wind that the Republicans in Congress are VERY interested in the PUMA movement. We are considered the prize in the general election, and they are trying to figure out the best way to woo us. I have let my go-betweens know that we want to see some evidence that the Republicans are serious about taking down Obama. And they are starting to understand that we are serious about breaking down the forces responsible for bringing us the FIASCO of May 31. I am getting the word out that when they start standing up against the anti-democratic actions of the coup that we PUMAs will be right there to add our voices.
My perception is that the Republicans are trying to walk a thin line. They undoubtedly have toxic stuff to leak out about Obama, but they are holding back because as far as they are concerned Hillary Rodham Clinton is still a threat. As they are clearly feeling beholden to our support (and they want it VERY badly in light of the fact they are fighting a great deal of apathy toward their presumptive nominee in certain factions of the party) we need to strategize methods to force their hand on some of this stuff they are holding. If we are serious about taking down Obama’s candidacy, and this coup, we’re going to have to leverage the Republicans with our potential support.
I am making it clear that there are disparate strategies among members of the Just Say No Deal Coalition. Some are planning to vote for McCain. Some are staying home. Some are going to write in HRC. Obviously the Republicans want to boost the numbers of us taking the first option. The message we need to send Republicans is this: go after the Democratic Party. Speak to what happened on May 31, 2008 at the Rules and Bylaws Committee meeting, specifically the hijacking of 4 of HRC’s delegates, and the allocation of 55 uncommitted delegates to a candidate who did not even appear on the ballot. And let loose some serious salvos against Obama, not just tit for tat like we’ve been seeing (though the way he’s recently started throwing MoveOn.org and Wes Clark under the bus I’m wondering how much of a base in the Party Obama is still going to have when he gets to Denver).
In the meantime I’m asking people to get back on the stick about lobbying super delegates. I think there has been some slackening in that area as people are seeing HRC out there with Obama thinking, “She’s campaigning for him. It’s over.” From the reports I have read, and what I’ve seen from Unity, NH, and the Mayflower Hotel, I’d say this is definitely not over.
The Republicans are also apparently nervous about Ed O’Reilly. They are glad to see he’s getting support against John Kerry, but he’s getting too much for their liking. I say that’s a very good thing. In fact, I encourage you to contribute to Ed’s campaign (as well as Stephanie Tubbs Jones and Sheila Jackson Lee), and help take down one of the principle players in the coup. The bottom line is the Republicans are ready to make a serious play on the Congress, and they would like to do it on our backs. It’s no secret that many of us are willing to support candidates opposing elected officials whose districts and states went to Clinton, but who endorsed Obama anyway, despite all the talk from party leaders about super delegates not overturning the “will of the people.” They want to use us, and we want to use them. This is going to be a delicate dance all the way through August and beyond.
A final thought. The Republicans are VERY afraid of Hillary making a comeback…very afraid. They know that, if nominated, they will not be able to beat her. Every person, every party has a lever. Archimedes is reported to have said that with a lever, and a place to stand, he could move the entire world. We have the strength to move the lever. We just have to find the proper fulcrum.
It’s a long way to Denver.
Oh God, Kos is quietly having a breakdown. Did anyone ever expect to see him write this line?
Yes, please don’t do that! Anyone who wants to read Markos can go over there and do it.
BB, really? James Dobson? The religiositiness of Sen. Obama is creepy anyway, but throw in Dobson and we passed creepy seventy-three miles back and are verging into the heart of anti-queerness.
Gah. I don’t like that place.
BTW, house coming along. We have eckeltricity (okay, just one fan plugged in, but it turns on and everything). I have to quickly drywall a corner so we can do our hetaing and solar thermal DHW systems and have the ventilation system scheduled to be done on Friday.
Drywall sucks. But I did rig a pneumatic lifter to lift drywall sheets to the ceiling. That was fun. I has to go to the welding place to get a can of CO2 and I love the welding place.
Have martinis and money-giving scheduled for Friday evening. Is Rico going to be pouring? Is Carol going to be shilling? Hope so.

But for some reason (could be my sloppu japoly laptop) I get these errors from time to time that free my browser. I rapidly try to get the RSS Feed button going – sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Then if I try to comment, my Internet Explorer crashes and I have to start from scratch again. She should change to WordPress.
Maybe I’m the only one that has that problem – but I do LOVE HER WRITING. I’m constantly referring to her great piece on the OBAMA = O.J. Support Syndrome.
Shtuey,
I don’t see how I can help the Republicans. At least for now. Later (if everything goes wrong) I might be interested in the Punish Everyone movement. But I don’t know if that would directly benefit Republicans.
So are we now going to refer to it as the cheeto lite-1/2 the fat and lard and 1/3 the splenda of the original? He has to come off more than that before he is back on my radar-
fuzzybeargville
bostonboomer–
Sorry. I got a good laugh out of it, and thought other people might also. I figured you didn’t link to the Cheeto because you don’t want to boost his traffic stats. Others probably feel the same way, so I pasted it so they could enjoy this post without having to venture over.
OMG, I just went a read some of the mydd post. sickening…RD, you are definitely a more patient human than I
Did anyone mention the Washington DNC staff that didn’t want to board the bus to Chicago? Apparently the unemployment agency has an office under here.
katiebird, we all have our own strategies. The best we can do right now is figure out one that uses them to our advantage. They are certainly wanting to use us.
Pol C,
I think most of us have seen it by now.
Which post is it, Gary?
the one where they are calling RD a racist and islamophobe by some asshole named geekesque
I just closed the window, so I don’t have the link, its upthread somewhere, or maybe on the last post
You know what would piss me off most about Kos’s statement if I was an Obama-contributing kosssack? The fact that they have been busting their butts on Kos’s website, some of them living on freaking Ramen, but Kos hasn’t YET donated a single dime to the campaign he’s been pushing for months now. That would piss me off to no end. Because you know he has the cash.
The more I hear about Obama and his constant flip flops, his uninformed tax policy proposal, his flailing after the primary, neither do I have the desire to “punish” anyone. I just don’t want to reward someone who practices slash & burn politics for reasons that have yet to be determined.
what is my URL? I can never answer that question…
bboomer, look at the links coming to us…I found it there. He linked here calling us racists and nazis and RD and islamophobe.
Kbird, I’m thinking the idea is to feint a shift to supporting the GOP, but never closing the deal. Make ‘em so hungry, they let loose something juicy on Obama (but not the worst of it) to entice us.
If it’s the right kind of stuff, there is a chance the press (there’s still one, right?) may jump on it and uncover it and any other garbage without the GOP’s “assistance,” all before Denver.
Problem is how to send the message back to the GOP that 1) we want the dirt now, not later, 2) that there is no deal, even if some people tell you we’ll make one because the PUMA heart is all about one person/one vote and how each of us own our individual votes and can do with ‘em as we each will, and 3) if the GOP wants my vote, the GOP will have to turn hard left and be the liberal, active, fighting party I’ve been looking for and that will happen the same day I go, like, totally hetero (not that there’s anything wrong with that). Anyhoo…
Sorry if I’m putting words in your post, Shtuey.
Good night Confluencians!
(tottering away)
Ohio, that sounds like a really interesting goal. I hope I can find your comment again in the morning (I’ve already faded away)
gary-about geekesque,he is probably a pimply faced teenager who is projecting on us because his mom and dad took away the keys to the car for a week. Ok that was mean but as michael thomas ford said-its not mean if it is true
fuzzybeargville
Shtuey, a question I would ask Obama (in my best Katie Couric voice) would be: You wrote a book about the dreams of your father. What dreams did you mother leave you? What were your mother’s last words to you?

Does that answer the question?
Gary,
Is it the diary by Geekesque? He is a slimball. I’d be willing to bet he is being paid by the O campaign.

Jmac, Aravosis IS a 10-year old, as is Kos and WKJM. The problem is, they let their inner children have free reign, and then they turn out like Broders and the Friedmans they despise.
I did have to wander over to Americablog for just a sec this afternoon to see how he handled the religious funding stuff. He twisted himself into a pretzel trying to justify it.
Night, Katiebird. I’ll be nodding off soon….
Grayslady – aw, you are very sweet! We need some humor to boost us up when we’re down. It’s weird, I don’t have a funny bone to my body, expect when I’m being a smart ass.
Shtuey, great analysis – the whole “enemy of my enemy is my friend” scenario is tempting – but in my honest opinion, I DO NOT want Republicans to have majority in congress. Dem majority was a 16 year effort in the making. I hope that we remember that down-ticket Dems need our full support, despite the stab in the back.
wellwhen I register at some of these blogs that is a question that stops me-keeps me from posting and helping our friends numbers like sugar-I guess I should find one (URL) hugh?

bboomer, yeah it is…he is a real dirtbag
I am not surprised that Obama is now running to the right of McCain. Just this week he has flip-flopped on FISA, the death penalty, campaign financing, faith based inititives, and NAFTA. I’m sure I missed a few. He flip-flops on something daily. The guy is a shape shifter and should not be trusted!!!
NO NO NOBAMA
PUMA
Good night Katiebird!! Hope to see a post from you soon about your new life in retired-happy-dom.
SM couldn’t agree more but in 2010 wexler and his ilk are going to have well funded primary challengers -pay back is b*tch named PUMA-
and this fuzzybear can be a real b*tch

RD to Geekesque:
What have you accomplished? Did you get your rocks off by pounding ‘racist’ on the keyboard? Did that make you feel better, you wretched little collection of pixels on a screen who probably hasn’t been laid in a decade.
Bwaaaahahahahahahaha!!!!!!
When we return sanity to the DNC we have to have down ticket payback or we must instruct the obama supporters like wexler and McCaskiller that they should just opt out of running again-SM and Gary do you not think so?

Gary,
He is one of the jerks who led the destruction of DK. He is slime mold. He is lower than an earthworm!

Michael – what we have to do is GUARANTEE that if a Dem has a challenger, we support he challenger, as in the Kerry/O’Reilly case.
If there is no challenger, then we may have to suck it up there – for the most part. I hope that there’s someone that will challenge Wexler, he reminds me so much of the guy that owns the WWF, McMahon something.
Boston, to use a psychoanalytical phrase, Geekesque is “projecting.” The last time he probably saw a vagina was when he turned his head coming out of his mother.
Gotta say it:
I hope that we remember that down-ticket Dems need our full support …
They sure do. So what are they doing to get it?
Boston, I was spammed! I used a clean anatomical word to describe what Geekesque hasn’t seen in a looong time.
That’s ok.
Michael,
The URL textbox is only if you have a Web page you want to have shown along with your comment. I don’t have one.
Hello All,
I think we need to have some seating arrangement under the bus. It’s getting very crowded here. I don’t want to seated near Rev. Wright or the Move-on gang.
SM correct but I am talking next mid terms we are stuck with some of these bad apples this cycle…what has O’rielly said about the PUMA movement? If we delivered a primary defeat to Kerry… I would show obama’s weekness right?
fuzzybeargville

Mawm and you have been pretty public I worry abt you guys too
Micahel – I don’t think it’s necessary for O’Reilly to talk about PUMA to legitimize him, I think that just by him challenge Kerry makes him a PUMA – but in stealth mode.
don’t worry about us fuzzybear, the force is with us. MAWM just posted a new post with more video frrom Unity…we’ll be serving it up all week
exausted after staying up late last night with sista and princess (diane) a hh hope she goes to a safe location we are preparing for her- dont want anything to happen to RD or Murphy

hey fuzzybear, be sure to tune in tomorrow…will have some video from pride NYC…..mawm marched all the way down 5th ave all by himself, we had signs saying “Obama will sell us out to the Evangelicals” . They looked at us like we were crazy….today with his faith based agenda bs I’ll bet they’re thinking twice….
Look, McCain will be a terrible President, almost certainly worse than Obama. But Obama will be bad enough, and unlike McCain, who will damage the Right and the GOP, Obama will damage progressives and the Democrats. That’s the reason to oppose Obama-but let’s not pretend McCain is someone we WANT in the White House. He is just (we think, long term) the lesser of two evils.
kos is beginning to get a sour taste in his mouth
“I will never pull a Rush Limbaugh and carry water for anyone”.
…and air america today – Maddow really knocked for a loop by the faithbased initiative funding
these guys were so busy yelling yellow suit at the faith debate, they could have picked up on that fundystuff then if they just listened, like we did.
……but they were so frightened to listen because then they would hear sensible old Hillary, eating her peas, saying to her faith meant the golden rule – do as you would have others do unto you…no promises of stealthy wealth to religious nuts, no caving on abortion rights, just a camel through the eye of the needle Democrat.
good night all you easteners, the night is young in CA
Well, there is that to consider, tdraicer. I agree actually. And I don’t think enough PUMAs consider the relationships McCain has developed over 30+ years in the Senate when they say they think the court is pretty safe (they aren’t considering the recent Dem record either, but that’s another comment). But my feeling is, don’t bring wet dough to play hardball. If I decide to vote McCain I’ll know exactly what I’m doing, and I’ll be fairly sure what I’m getting, and it ain’t good. But it is necessary. The only way they’ll listen is if we follow through, and are then willing to sit down to discuss how they can win us back after November. Unless they come around before then, but I ain’t holding my breathe or anything.
You think nothing can render you speechless?
Then watch this
Oh, I’m just back from popping in at Corrente, and I LOVE RD – truly, and again, I have a massive girl-crush on her. RD, BB, Katiebird, garychapelhill, all of you – you’re my heroes.
I suddenly now have Hope for Real Change – that the SDs will see send, the DNC will see sense, and elect the Hillary, not ADD-bama
We’re having a party under the bus.
I would like to note, that back home in my part of Appalachia, some folks will rent an old bus and take that down to the river bank, to camp out for a while with friends/family and basically throw a big party. So you have like working class white people in rural Appalachia who probably cling to their guns and Bibles and stuff. Obama will probably seek to have these areas cordoned off and transformed into reeducation camps.
Obama’ s magic bus will hopefully end up in the junkyard soon!!
Rats, just got home and everyone is going to bed. Goodnight to all! See you in the a.m.
Listen, if no one else wants to sit next to Rev. Wright, I will, I guess. When I was a kid, a girl-scout barfed on my head from the back of in a stationwagon. If I could get through that long ride, I suppose I could get through anything.
If anyone is interested in a little break from fighting the good fight — you know grab a soda and just yuk it up a little — head on over to Media Matters for America. The whole front page is almost completely devoted to who didn’t say what, who didn’t say something they should have said, what was misquoted, what wasn’t quoted at all…..
The MSM looks like it is so unhinged that it, too, is imploding–like a dark star in space.
…so that’s what a black hole looks like. Hmm. Interesting.
On the subject of what and who is under the bus: I’m waiting for the thing or person who just willingly steps in front of the bus. There’s gotta be someone out there with a conscience who will go freely…
Any bets on who it will be?

Good Morning
Now the fist bump seems to be already under the bus
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/07/02/obama-over-fist-bumping/
If it woud keep Mr Obama from the nomination….I would step infront of a bus, plane, lorry, even a tank….remember that brave soul in front of the tank during the uprising in china 1989? do you see Mr Obama doing that? Hell No! John McCain? Yes so who is the patriot here?
fuzzybeargville
Maybe all these people under the bus will become united. United Against Obama.
I apologize for how long this is, but I wanted to quote the section of the LA Times from today July 2, 2008, about Obama’s opposition to a gay marriage ban proposed in California. It turns out his support for GLBT, which we’ve said here all along, is tepid at best. This is yet another instance of “they have to vote for me because there’s no one else.”
“For Obama, too, there was scant appeal in taking a high-profile stand on the California ballot measure. He is trying to peel off some of the Republican Party’s traditional support from white evangelicals. On Tuesday in Ohio, he championed taxpayer aid to religious organizations that offer social services.
“He has very much been making a play for evangelical voters, suggesting that there would be no reason that an evangelical should vote against him,” said Gary Bauer, founder of the conservative Campaign for Working Families group. By opposing the California measure, he added, “it becomes harder to make that case.”
Obama first announced his opposition to the measure only in response to media inquiries — and then in a letter posted on the website of the Alice B. Toklas LGBT Democratic Club in San Francisco. He told the group, named after the author who was the partner of writer Gertrude Stein, that the nation should recognize lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans “with full equality under the law.”
He called the ballot measure “divisive and discriminatory” and concluded by congratulating “all of you who have shown your love for each other by getting married these last few weeks.” Left unstated was that Obama has declined to endorse gay marriage, saying that civil unions would suffice to protect partners’ rights.
His approach, no doubt, could limit Obama’s reach with conservative evangelicals. But overall, the issue is a more difficult one for McCain, said Andrew Kohut, president of the Pew Research Center.
“For Obama, I think it probably is a less important issue,” he said, “because the kinds of people who take this very seriously on the right aren’t going to vote for him, and the kind of people who take this very seriously on the left are going to vote for him.”

Fuzzybear,
I live near Murph. For the most part it’s Hillary country around here, and the Obama folks are the college professor types. I know she’ll be careful, but it’s unlikely that she’s in any physical danger. Think grassy fields, Old North Bridge, country roads. This is the land of the original patriots. Dissent is admired. I can wear my Hillary teeshirt to the grocery store and only get smiles.

Re: Sugar—my computer freezes everytime I try to link to her site. I love her work.
For those of you worried about faith based organizations, I work for one during the Summer feeding meals at community sights, sponsored by an Episcopal Church. You can’t imagine the hate talk against Bush! But the truth is we can run the program a lot cheaper than the government (and without proselytizing). What I can’t understand is how this church can be so hypocritical. You can be sure Obama can see through this hypocrisy, knowing that most Americans are willing do good things for the poor better than the government without realizing that thanks to Bush who pushed it through, it works! HUD pays us less money than it would take to do the program itself. I even get paid about $1200 for 8 weeks’ work with the money WE save from the money they give us. Bottom line: don’t dis faith based organizations. Also this “typical white person” is a strong believer that we are blessed by it.
Vote(I)-
I believe that faith-based organizations can do wonderful things, and this non-believer sends them money often. I’ve even been known to roll up my sleeves and work for them as long as they realize that come Sunday I’ll be mowing my lawn. However, I don’t want my tax dollars distributed to faith-based groups. It’s that old separation of church and state thing. I’ll help, but I get to choose where on this one.
samanthasmom,
I heartily agree with you. Even though it does save the general public’s money because it is subsidized, I don’t support NEA (National Endowment for the Arts) for the same principles. I don’t want my money supporting legal obscenity. Here is a great ideal. We both get to stomp on “the greater good”… you on religion and I on freedom of speech. Hmmm.
“The Great Possum Seal” is now under the bus. LOL!!!
Could pimp that ride and recycle the seal into some great hubcaps!
