The Democratic Body is Starting to Reject the Unity Transplant…

I guess we’re not the only ones who have smelled the Kool-Aid and, in the immortal words of Nancy Reagan, “just said no”.  Obama is having a little problem with some of the more conservative members of the Democratic Party.  For them, he is a liberal nightmare.  Once again Obama proves to be nothing more than a Will-o’-the-Wisp, a sort of ethereal other-worldly presence that either possess you fully a la The Exorcist, or he creeps the s*#% out of you a la …um…The Exorcist.  For some people he is too liberal, for others too conservative.  I think this is mainly due to the fact that he really represents nothing.  You can either project your hopes and dreams onto him, or your worst nightmares.   Many of us however see him for exactly what he is, an empty suit.  When I lived in Spain they had a word for someone like Obama.  Someone who you can never quite pin down, who is always changing to suit the environment he is in.  They call such people fantasmas–the Spanish word for ghost.   Charles Lemos was asking yesterday if anyone knew of SuperD’s that were rejecting Obama after Ted Strickland’s unequivocal statement yesterday:

Hailing from one of the most important swing states, Strickland had been one of the most talked about VP possibilities for Obama, but asked if he is auditioning for the job, he was Shermanesque in ruling it out.

“Absolutely not. If drafted I will not run, nominated I will not accept and if elected I will not serve. So, I don’t know how more crystal clear I can be,” he said.

Other SD’s have even gone so far as to say they will not endorse Obama at all (at least Strickland has agreed to stump with Obama–according to the above article).   We learned yesterday that Rep. Dan Boren (D) of Oklahoma will not endorse Obama:

We’re much more conservative,” Boren said of district. “I’ve got to reflect my district. No one means more to me than the people who elected me. I have to listen them.” He called Obama “the most liberal senator in the U.S. Senate.”

Hillary Rodham Clinton carried Boren’s district with 66 percent of the vote in the state’s presidential primary in February.

Boren said his endorsement became a moot point when Clinton suspended her campaign, making Obama the presumed nominee.

“That process is really over with,” he said. “Our nominee is not my first choice.”

I told Charles yesterday to keep an eye on Rep Heath Shuler (D) NC.  He is a freshman who won in 2006 but is from a very conservative district in the western part of the state.  He endorsed Hillary Clinton on May 8th, two days after she lost the NC primary.  I checked his website yesterday and there is no mention of the general election at all.  Today the Politico pointed to him as a holdout as well:

Rep. Heath Shuler, a freshman Democrat from right-leaning North Carolina, has also been too busy to endorse. After Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton carried his district in the North Carolina primary, Shuler said he would cast his superdelegate vote for her at the Democratic convention

Now that Clinton is out of the race? “We’ve gone back to his work up there in the House,” said Shuler spokesman Andrew Whalen. “We’re not really too focused on the presidential [race].”

For its part the Obama camp doesn’t seem too concerned, which is familiar to us.  They seem to think that we will ALL eventually come around:

Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor noted in an e-mail that “Obama has a long history of working across the aisle to get things done and … he’s worked with some of the most conservative members — including Congressman Boren’s Republican colleague from Oklahoma, [Sen.] Tom Coburn.”

“Obviously this primary process was long and highly competitive, but we’re confident that the party will come together to beat John McCain,” he added.

There seems to be a steady leak from the Unity Tent though, as Politico goes on to point out.

A spokesman for Rep. Tim Mahoney (D-Fla.) told Politico on Thursday that Mahoney will remain neutral. So will Rep. Jim Marshall, a Democrat in a conservative Georgia district. … “Jim, as a rule, doesn’t get involved in other people’s campaigns,” said spokesman Doug Moore.

And remember that special election in Mississippi a couple weeks back that Dem. Travis Childers won?  the Obamoids claimed it was a sign that The Precious already was providing coattails to downticket Dems.  Well, maybe not so much:

Rep. Travis Childers, elected just weeks ago in a Mississippi special election, hasn’t endorsed anyone in the presidential race yet. “We have had our head down at work, trying to get our feet on the ground up here,” said Childers’ chief of staff, Brad Morris. “The presidential politics just has not been on our mind.”

Normally I would not be a big fan of some of these more conservative Democrats, but I have to hand it to them for standing by their principles.  Many of them claim they are not endorsing Obama because he is too liberal for their constituents.  Although I disagree with that assessment, I do honor their commitment to doing the work of the people they represent.  Obama’s post-partisan world is also post constituency as well it seems.  Artur Davis (D) LA makes my case:

Rep. Artur Davis (D-Ala.), a longtime Obama backer, said that he harbors no ill will for Democrats who stay on the sidelines.

“People’s responsibility, first and foremost, is to get reelected,” Davis said.

No, Rep. Davis, their responsibility is not first and foremost to get elected, it is to represent and be a voice for the people who elected them.  Democracy works from the bottom up, not the top down, and if you don’t even get that, then maybe the people of your district should take a second look.

Boyd doesn’t endorse but will vote for Obama

By Bill Cotterell • FLORIDA CAPITAL BUREAU POLITICAL EDITOR • June 12, 2008

U.S. Rep. Allen Boyd, a leader of the conservative Blue Dog caucus in Congress, said Wednesday he will vote for Sen. Barack Obama but shied away from endorsing his party’s candidate for president.

Boyd said he can’t support Sen. John McCain because he considers his GOP platform a continuation of President Bush’s economic policies. Boyd, a Monticello Democrat elected to Congress in 1996, called Obama “a great candidate” with a good chance of winning nationally and carrying Florida’s 27 electoral votes.

“I have never endorsed a candidate in a presidential race and I won’t now,” Boyd said. “I’ve got a race of my own and I’ll stay focused on that. That’s my job, to represent the interests of my folks.”

Since clinching the nomination last week, Obama has run into reluctance among congressional Democrats.

Rep. David Boren, the only Democratic congressman from Oklahoma, said Tuesday the Illinois senator does not have a record of bipartisan work in Congress. Rep. Tim Mahoney, D-Fla., a first-term member targeted by Republicans in a GOP-leaning district, said he will remain an uncommitted superdelegate but might not attend the Democratic National Convention in Denver.

Georgia Rep. Jim Marshall refused to say whether he considers Obama better qualified than McCain.

Democratic National Committeeman Jon Ausman of Tallahassee said he is not losing serious support among party leaders. Ausman said Boyd’s statement that he will vote for Obama amounts to an endorsement.

“There are 28 Democratic governors, 51 U.S. Senators and 230-plus members of the House,” said Ausman. “If possibly 10 of them don’t officially endorse Obama, it’s not a big deal.”

    Dear Friends,
We are putting the finishing touches on our next ad, which we’re hoping to run in the New York Times as soon as Monday. We think you’ll love the content – and this is no time to sit back and wait. More than ever, we must stand up and be counted – all 18 million of us. But we can’t do it without you. We are still short of the necessary funds to place the ad.
The headline is “We’re still here. We’re listening. And we’re not going away.” It says we will not rest until we hear from the Democratic party and its nominee about how they will:

    represent the 18 million Americans who voted for Hillary;
    acknowledge Hillary’s 35 years of experience;
    reform a flawed nominating process, especially caucuses;
    address the flagrant, often hostile, gender bias in the campaign;
    assure parity to the 52 percent of Americans who are women;
    apologize for their public silence in the wake of the outrageous attacks leveled by Father Pfleger against Hillary;
and support the issues we hold dear, such as health insurance for everyone, a good start for all children, a strong economy, and a smart environmental policy.
It is so important that we speak out and speak up at this critical moment. Hillary’s supporters around the country are launching many different efforts, and WomenCount respects all of those views. We believe that the points we raise in this ad are shared by everyone, and we hope you will get behind our latest effort.

To contribute, go to http://www.womencountpac.com. Remember that the quickest way to get the funds to us is to send a check by overnight mail or print out and fax back the credit card form you can download from the web site.

Thank you for your continued support.

  3. So these Congresscritters are “too busy” to endorse Obama?

    LOL!

I think they’re waiting to see what happens in August. They will endorse the nominee but are hoping and praying it’s Hillary.

    Me too, guys. Me too.

  4. Sounds like there still may be some members of congress still left with their integrity intact.

    gary: As usual, great post.

  5. Let’s see how they feel in Augst after we’ve made a lot of noise this summer.

Sorry, this was my comment. I didn’t notice that gary was still logged into this machine.

    Eating lunch at home today.

  7. Just keep watching the polls. Hopefully he dips enough that some stalwarts begin to see another loss in November and begin to put pressure on the DNC. Hillary is our only chance and I am holding out until the last “hymn” is sung in August.

After that, all bets are off.

  8. mawm, i thought i had been podified….don’t scare me like that

    * * *
I’m with you . . .if not HIllary, then McCain. End of story.

  10. @ pat johnson:

this is the democrat’s “summer bubble”. the polls always look good this far out.

four years ago this week, kerry had a six point lead over bush…. and we know how THAT turned out.

  11. I wonder, since they are controlling every aspect of the convention, if they will even allow Hillary into the hall? Sounds to me like they are turning this into a high tech circus.

  12. The truth be told: I honestly DON’T think he needs us to win. Shoot, look at the polls. He’s holding his lead over McCain. And it’s a depressing thought, because it means we get NO representation.

    Really, really a pathetic day.

  13. The convention is the end of August, the election is still FIVE months away.

  14. Teresa: His lead is not that significant. Dukakis had a 16 point lead over Poppy Bush and flunked. All either needs is 51% of actual voters in November to seal it so he has his work cut out for him. The more people see the less they like.

In my circle, I have yet to find one person voting for Obama or even liking him for that matter. Most are going for McCain because he is known.

  15. teresa, I wouldn’t count on it. two weeks ago the obama campaign was telling us that these polls are meaningless this far out because they showed hillary doing much better than him. now all of a sudden they are valid? I guess living in the south makes me more confident, because there is no way he’s winning down here. Shuler is a good example. Hell, he didn’t even want to endorse Hillary, but he doesn’t want to touch Obama with a ten foot pole. And they think NC will be in play….bless their hearts…..Somebody said in an earlier post that party means everything up north…not in the south. That’s why they can make a stand. they know that any threat from Obama or the DNC to run a challenger will go nowhere.

  16. kind of off topic but has anyone seen the EV scoreboard over at MyDD? it has Obama winning something like 330 EV’s. He wins states like virginia, indiana, iowa, michagan, ohio, and every New england state. They have a serious case of Peter Pan syndrome. If they believe it hard enough it will come true!

  17. Seems like The Boyz of Brazile have a lott of knee capping and arm twisting to do (got Boyda already!). I wonder if they have enough enforcers out there…

  18. Today, the dynamic has gotten even a bit more complicated for Obama’s campaign. In an interview with Fox and Friends this morning, the popular Governor of Pennsylvania, Ed Rendell, declared that he would NOT run as Barack Obama’s VP running mate. This of course adds another nail to Obama’s coffin and also pushes said State further away from Obama’s camp, giving everyone another painful reminder of why the Democratic banishment of the candidate who actually won these States in their primary, Hillary Clinton, was a HUGE mistake for their chances of victory in November. From SAVAGEPOLITICS.

Add Rendell to “Not a Fan of Obama’s” club.

  19. What’s up with Colorado? I’m surprised at Obama’s relative strength there. Any ideas? I always thought the military vote plus a right wing hit job would cause it to fall to red territory.

  20. pm317 – My bumper sticker of the day is: “Overconfidence is not a plan.”

All these fairy tales about a Clintonista running as Obama’s VP have been so ridiculous. Clark, Rendell, Strickland – all have said NOBAMA.

  21. The reality here is that Obama will lose Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Florida.

He can’t win enough Western states to make up for that.

    He’s toast.

  22. I suggest a new name for the party. The Obama-crats.

  23. If McCain can secure Colorado and Virginia (assuming he gains NH and loses Iowa and New Mexico), he would just need Michigan or Ohio to get over 270 EV’s.

  24. I want Hillary back!!!!

  25. It’s the 1972 McGovern primary run all over again. Remember him? He was the darling of the young ones then and got clobbered by Nixon by a landslide win of 520 electoral votes for Nixon and 17 electoral votes for McGovern.

If Obama does not rein in his surrogates in their mysogystic and other kinds of attack on Hillary, the Obama primary run will become somewhat similar to the McGovern run with McCain winning by a landslide.

  26. Using the scenario,

    w/ Michigan: 275 EV’s

    w/ Ohio: 278 EV’s

    NH has 4 EV’s.

  27. The “bully” boy tactics of the Obamatots won’t work well in rural and southern districts. The harder you push people like us, the more we digin. We like being stubborn especially when it annoys someone we don’t like.

Down south I guess they call folks like that Hillbillies. Here in Wisconsin if you’re from the sticks, as I am, you’re a “stumpjumper”. This old Stumpjumper may have moved to town but I can still tell the difference between a skunk and a kitty cat, thank you very much. (Apologies to skunks since they are really sweet creatures but honestly they do stink.)

  28. OH’s gov , Ted Strickland said thanks but, no no NO thanks to being considered for VP, but so did Ed Rendell of PA a few days before that. Ed just said he just worked better alone lol!! Banbie is disaster for these guys and it’s significant they are publicly rejected a Bambie hook up. I’m hoping to see more!

” For some people he is too liberal, for others too conservative. I think this is mainly due to the fact that he really represents nothing. You can either project your hopes and dreams onto him, or your worst nightmares. Many of us however see him for exactly what he is, an empty suit. “
I have only seconds to spare, But I needed to tell you that these words capture exactly how I think of him, and exactly what I’ve been saying to my Obamabot friends…. (this may be why some of them don’t even talk about the election around me any more. )
Thank you for putting it so succinctly.

  31. Clark , Hugh Shelton, dream on… Do they want to take the Iraq burden with this nincompoop? The best he can get is McPeek (pardon my spelling of these names).

  32. Garychapelhill. When you said “you can project your hopes, dreams….or worst nighmares” onto Obama, it reminded me of when HRC said that Obama is a blank screen. People can project anything they want onto that screen and make change mean anything they want it to mean. I’m very proud of Strickland and Rendell for saying “no” to the chosen one. Now how about Evan Byah? That would make a hat-trick!

  33. OT, the “young bucks vs. old women” dynamic that Axelrod has set in motion, is a perfect setup for trashing … er, privatizing … Social Security. Because you know who’s going to be around for ages and ages, collecting Social Security, right?

  34. I read somewhere, since none of the political heavyweights want the VP he is looking to military guys. No sane military guy will jump on this guy’s bandwagon. They may have to draft them — well that may not work either :) Strickland already said he won’t even if he is drafted. My only prayer is that they won’t push Hillary to it and if they do, I hope she will say NO, NO, NO.

Have you all seen the youtube that is NQ and Savage, about Obama saying he will not withdraw troops from Iraq?

  35. Did you know the original name for Kool-Aid was
    Fruit Smack?

For some reason, this makes me laugh. Will Kool-Aid Man be at the convention?

  36. Does anybody know of a comprehensive list of delegates/superDs NOT endorsing Obama? This post is great, a listing would illustrate the point.

  37. Sometimes these “potential VP choices” like to play it cute. I am not putting much stock as yet into their waving off any consideration. We have learned too much over the past few months that “loyalty” is tissue thin. These people like to be in the spotlight and if offered, they would more than likely grab it.

  38. OK, folks. You’all probably knew about this anyway but Superdelegates.org http://superdelegates.org/Category:Delegates_who_are_uncommitted

has a handy list of the uncommitted SDs. There are 74, several of which have already indicated who their going to back by their actions i.e. Nancy Pelosi, Donna Brazile.

  39. Well, all I can say is, that you folks must want McCain. I can’t believe that you would not move to Obama. He may well lose, but why would this site do anything to help McCain.

    Help me out here:

What is it you folks want to happen?

  40. Kool-Aid man can be Obama’s VP!

Sorry, that should have been on my previous post.

  41. And who says the MCM isn’t on top of things? I stumbled on this link at CNN “Michelle Obama likely target of conservative attacks.” I guess I really didn’t see that coming, did you? With all the Jackie-O analogies I thought Michelle was going to glide through without a scratch. I have a confession, I’m enjoying this way too much.

    http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/06/12/michelle.obama/index.html

  42. I miss Hillary! I feel sick!

I believe we should be able to demand a complete explanation from each Super D as to what they based their decision on to back Obama other than race!

Also, what about being privy to the emails that took place between DNC and Obama over the course of this process?

  43. DownriverDem: Some–not all–of us do indeed prefer McCain to Obama. We think McCain is a better choice. What we want to happen is for Barky-O to drop out and let Senator Clinton, our first choice, lead the charge.

  44. Kool-Aid Man can be Obama’s VP.

Sorry, that should have been on my previous post.

  45. Downriver – we want Obama to admit he is a fraud, Michelle is a bigot and all of their friends and associates are crooks, bigots, terrorists …

Oh yeah, and when will they be leaving the country?

  46. DownRiverDan: Our Democratic Party returned to us. The Big Tent intact. Or how about just plain old democracy? We see these things slipping out of our hands and we are not happy. You can have your Obama image; we want our party returned to in its original state. Enough said.

  47. DownriverDem,
I see you were asking the same question at NoQuarter. Here is the same response I left you there. It is about the principles of the Democratic party.

Obama has trashed every principle the Democratic party stands for:

He used race-baiting in every state with high percentages off AAs to get their support.

He used voter fraud and intimidation in caucuses.

He used voter suppression through colusion with the media, promoting false polls weighted towards his supporters, circulating stories that Clinton was dropping out.

He used mysogyny to minimize Hillary Clinton.

He blocked re-votes in FL and MI. Why does he hate Democracy?

Now, the winner of the popular vote is not going to be nominated, because a committee of 30 people(RBC) decided to hand him the nomination with delegates that he did not earn.

Our Democracy is on fire right now, and it is Obama campaign and the DNC who are torching it.

A vote against Obama is a vote to take the party back to its true principles. If we don’t do it, there will not be a party that represents working class people, just the elites.

  48. Did you know the original name for Kool-Aid was Fruit Smack?

And the Oborg is mainlining the stuff. Ride the white (or red or purple or orange) Pony . . .

  49. Yea, play dumb, the question of the day:

    WHAT DO WE WANT?

  50. Shuler is my local congresscritter and he has caught hell from the Democratic party (nationally) for beating long time incumbent crook Chainsaw Charile Taylor. Shuler was “Bush Dogged” all over at Crooks and Liars and AmericaBLOG and all the other usual places over something– might have been illegals or something.

Anyway, if you are going to win in a rural area, you learn to leave guns and God alone, and you learn that people really want everyone to mind their own business, so, like Shuler, you can be personally against abortion, but politically support a woman’s right to chose because it is her business– and that does fly. What doesn’t fly are the muddled positions of o’Precious, though they do like him around the college campuses. The 90% black vote of Obama will be more than canceled by a surge of Latino voters, who, to many people, seem far more patriotic than the typical Obama supporter. If demographics is destiny, then Obama is destined to lose NC unless they can pull some of the same stunts in the general election that they pulled in the primary.

  51. ea, on June 12th, 2008 at 12:51 pm Said:

Do you remember when it is was normal to see someone smacking someone on TV? The person would be hysterical, and someone would smack them. The hysterical person would then immediately get calm and sometimes thank the smacker.

It feels like we are slipping back to that time when solving things with bullying, intimidation, and violence are acceptable solutions to problems.

I talked to some people about the RBC decision. They are obama supporters. They thought it was just great to use strong arm tactics. They said they were sick of losing to the Republicans, and thought it was great the Democrats were finally learning to play dirty.

Is this the kind of party YOU want?

  52. obama has disassembled the DNC headquarters and carted it off to Chicago to work for him. i requested a refund on my Democracy Bond money to the DNC – you know, that program for Howard Dean to do grassroots development in all 50 states? well, guess what. they’re workign i nthe Obama salt mines now. screw the party grassroots and local candidates – it’s all about The One™ now.

    http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0608/Obama_moves_DNC_operations_to_Chicago.html

  53. DownriverDem. I totally agree with Mawm’s response to you. If you didn’t already know the answer to your question, you must be cut off from any sense of reality that exists outside of the kool-aid zone. I really can’t believe that Obama supporters didn’t see what we saw. They just chose to ignore it because it suited their purposes and their candidate.

  54. I just received my first piece of mail from the Obama campaign. I feel violated by their unwelcome intrusion into my life.

  55. It is difficult for me to accept that it was only one year ago that I was living on a high! Hillary in the race, the GOP looking to lose, we had a winner in our midst, and it was all the way to the WH.

Policies were being laid out. Solutions were being offered. My candidate kept getting better and better with each debate. She had it all. She could out debate anyone standing with her on that stage. Her demeanor softened and the real Hillary came forward. We collectively fell in love.

A year later we sit here actively despising a chosen candidate with nothing. We are at war with our own party. The DNC, which many of us have contributed to over the years, turns out to be corrupt and dishonest. Our hopes were dashed. On behalf of a 1/2 term senator from IL who does not know what he is talking about!

The only immediate consolation is that there are 18 million of us out there who share this sentiment. I may be angry but I cannot be consoled.

  56. They obviously used the DNC mailing list, but the return address is Chicago, so Ben Smith is right for once.

  57. DNC MOVE

In the meantime this is what the DNC is doing.

In a major shakeup at the Democratic National Committee — and a departure from tradition — large parts of the committee’s operations are relocating to Chicago to be fully integrated with the Obama campaign.

  58. The downticket Dems who signed on thinking this would be good for them will be surprised to find the whole party being made into the Obama party.

  59. Oh it looks like I’m behind the curve here. You guys beat me to the punch on the DNC move. Sorry I wasted the blog space with my late posting. Ahh but my heart was in the right place.

  60. Churl. I, too and one of Shuler constituents. I called his office the day he endorsed and thanked him. Better late than not at all. I can’t tell you how many people told me they would have voted for Hillary if they had changed their registration from Republican in time. Have been meaning to look at NC primary results by counties to see where he won big enough to overcome WNC for Hillary. Heard some remarks made while working the pollsite for Hillary that have raised questions in my mind. Do you know any specifics?

  61. What I remember from a year ago was saying, “Damn, She’s good!!” And I wasn’t even a Hillary supporter. That didn’t happen until Edwards left.
But I remember wishing everyone of the candidates – especially Edwards – were as prepared, smart, ready, and attractive as Hillary. It took me no time at all to move my support and my contributions to HIllary. And I haven’t looked back. In fact, I wonder what took me so long.
Now, the party that I worked for and contributed to has decided that my children (whom I raised, thank you very much) are much more attractive as supporters than the people who built and sustained the organization.

Well, no more. It’s Hillary or PUMA !

  62. Seriously, WTF with the DNC?

Could the fix be any more in? Obviously they have planned the Obama takeover of the DNC for quite some time.

Won’t they be surprised when Hillary is nominated at the Convention! First move: Fire all the Obaman @$$holes at the DNC. Second move: Re-locate DNC headquarters to, oh I don’t know, A SWING STATE. Maybe Pennsylvania? Third move: Win the election in a landslide. Fourth move: Real change at last!

  63. How are they explaining that O is still polling below numbers for Democrats???

  64. I’m really leaving this time. Just put last load of clothes in.

  65. Took a while to read the posts, I had a client come in and interrupt the cause (lol). I guess I have to work.

Madamab: Can’t be too soon for me!

  66. Has the party ever just picked up and moved to support a candidate?

  67. Thanks for keeping it real Conflucians! Not everyone is buying what the DNC is selling. I don’t know how many of us there are, but I don’t think we are all showing up in the polls yet. The real campaigning is only just beginning now and the republican attacks will all be designed to create question marks around Senator Obama and this birth certificate issue I keep reading about is just the start. I don’t know if there is precedent for seeing a candidate’s birth certificate, but I also cannot imagine that there could be anything to hide. I think Senator Obama’s refusal to release it has less to do with him having something to hide and more to do with “control,” he is trying to show that he isn’t going to give in to these right wing talking points (which is a joke because he is more than happy to use them against fellow Dems and progressive ideas when he wants to). What he doesn’t understand is that it just raises more questions and does not help him look any more in control.

Also, I find it VERY interesting that Strickland and Rendell are publicly saying no to the VP spot because I have a good friend who was being wooed by high level Obama fundraisers and this particular fundraiser has direct access to the top people in the Obama campaign and he floated Rendell as being one of their top picks for the VP spot and said that this information came straight from Axelrod…

  68. Setting up the DNC in Chicago?

Next time an O-Borg enthusiast comes calling, I’m going to tell them they shouldn’t have nominated a man who scares the crap out of me.

I can’t vote for this man, and my fammily had better not vote for this man.

  69. Just to add to the end of the fundraiser comment, my friend is NOT buying what the DNC is selling and said that he isn’t willing to raise money for him and that he didn’t intend on voting for him either.

    That’s P.U.M.A.to you!

  70. The idea that because DC is corrupt, he’s taking the party to Chicago sounds like something from The Onion.

  71. Wonder if Anglachel still wants to stay in the Demo-rat-ic party once it gets taken over by the Chicago machine.

Personally, the defections are important. Defections change the landscape, change the ratios of polls and imact the election.

Staying in the Democratic Party if you disagree with this move is a BAD THING to do.

  72. McCain is doing a Town Hall meeting at 7:00pm ET. He invited the O-slime ball but slime ball couldn’t make it.

  73. I see the birth certificate issue is still being tossed around. If it was such a big deal about McCain being born in Panama, (still American soil military base) why aren’t people ranting about it. I am really starting to think there might be something in his history, he wants no one to know.

  74. The DNC is moving to Chicago to be closer to the trough, I guess.

  75. I just read that they’re changing the name to ONC

  76. Would that be pronounced Oink?

  77. More PUMA news from the other side(Wait I can’t remember what side I’m on).

The idea that because DC is corrupt, he’s taking the party to Chicago sounds like something from The Onion.

    Agreed.

Maybe they are leasing space from Rezko at a discount.

  79. I think picking a high profile Clinton surrogate for VP will backfire because all 18 million of us will think this was a sell out and will anger us more (exaggerating but you get the drift). So let us see what options Obama has:
    1. he can’t pick a high profile Clinton surrogate from a swing state because that may further drive away the Clinton supporters;
    2. he can’t pick a woman because Clinton is the best qualified woman there is and he stole the nomination away from her;
    3. he can’t pick a high profile military guy because 30 and odd military high brass endorsed Clinton and have no confidence in this guy;
    4. he can’t pick a Latino like Richardson because he is “Judas” and has problems;
    5. he can’t pick a more qualified white male because that person may overshadow him (and that may not sit well with his ego) and they may not want to play the shadow and lose their credibility for their own run down the road.

So yes, he is toast. What do you think?

  80. Kim: Looks like the best pronounciation to me!

  81. The ONC: Most older independents should, maybe they won’t, but they SHOULD see this as symbolic of move in the DNC toward — CHICAGO CORRUPTION.

  82. Riverdaughter:

    Your blog rocks!!

    check out hillarysupporters.com!

Role Call! Take it to the Floor! See you in Denver!

    PUMAcrats unite!

  83. Totally bipasses finance laws by putting the ONC together with the Bambi campaign.

  84. More reason to not send one red cent to either the DNC or the Obama campaign.

  85. He is moving the DNC to Chicago? Didn’t the DNC JUST build a very new and very expensive building? Why do I feel like the Daley machine had something to do with 1) the favoritism shown to Obama in the primaries, and 2) and now with the total takeover of the Democratic Party, which is being turned into the Obamaparty. Yuck. I wan’t no part of this, it makes me feel very uncomfortable. It is surprising to me that the DNC is going along with this because they must understand that half the party did not vote for him and so it might make us uncomfortable to see the absolute control he is having. Is Dr. Dean moving to Chicago?Or are they moving the whole DNC for the new guy, Tewes?

  86. That Politico story about the DNC moving to Chicago is really scary, folks! Is it going to become a part of the Daly mob machine?

My question: how is this legitimate for Obama to do BEFORE he has actually become the nominee at the convention? How can he change ANYTHING until that happens? Something is terribly wrong here.

  87. There’s a scary rumor out there folks.

    This is from Clinton Dems:

    http://clintondems.com/2008/06/obama-and-dean-look-to-save-us-millions-them/

It seems Dean and Obama want to save the party money and are considering canceling the Denver convention. I am not sure how real this is, but check out the link above.

  88. I think moving DNC to Chicago is putting all the eggs in the obama basket. It won’t matter if they find a herd of goats in every closet at his house, they are going down with him.

  89. I hope they do cancel it. nail in the coffin for BO.

  90. I’m on the phone with my senator’s office. They are looking into this rumor for me. Senator Inouye is a Hillary supporter.

  91. The oddest thing to me in this quagmire is some of Dems and the media thinking Obama is a liberal and a great number of Dems and ‘new progressives’ knowing he is to the right of center (on some issues Dems would never be to the right of center on – health care, social security, possible vouchers, business, trade, etc)

Then Dean and Pelosi jump on his band wagon, completely abandoning the middle class voter in Peoria for the net roots youth vote and the AA vote (abandoning the hispanic vote).

THEN he goes religious. And he is religious. The party is in a complete muddle when they could have supported a strong winning center-left candidate whose husband won two terms.

  92. I hope they do cancel it. nail in the coffin for BO.

  93. Revamping the infrastructure of the DNC and outfitting it with the corrupt Chicago machinery is not a good sign for the August Convention.

    Very insidious and scary.

My guess – is that this is another one of BO’s thuggish moves. He wants to ensure that the delegates don’t move to Clinton in Aug, so take over the DNC completely.

  94. If women democrats get together and vote for McCain, the threat of Roe vs Wade would be nil. Because the republicans would know, to let thing be, or they would be next with a vengence. Plus republican women. Roe vs Wade would become the third rail.

  95. The DNC financial problems may be worse than they are admitting, consider: possible headquarter move, cancel convention, get on obama bus and be super quiet….

  96. why can’t we get answers (more ineptness from the DNC)?

  97. Senator Inouye’s office says he can’t just cancel, and they doubt with such short notice that this could be true.

This must be one of those ’smears’ Obama’s new site will be taking care of.

  98. steve you obots are the worst at reading comprehension. please re read and try again…

  99. steveeboy, did you even read the post? Your question is answered in it.

  100. steveeboy,

Go back to headquarters and ask him to release his Senate records, his passport file, his medical records, and his real-estate transactions with rezko.

  101. The Rep. Davis mentioned in the above post is reportedly being considered for BO’s AG. I don’t have a link but his record did not seem to be much better than Gonzales’s. Makes sense since legalities or ethics don’t concern BO.

  102. Heath Shuler is my congressman. His district went overwhelmingly for Hillary. He endorsed her because to do otherwise would be political suicide. He is the first democrat to get elected here in a very, very long time. If he endorses Obama it is all over for him; it maybe anyway if Obama gets the nomination. Many people will go Republican.

  103. I seriously have to wonder why Obama-bots are so angry. Their guy WON!

  104. garychapelhill, thank you for the wonderful article and in particular for quoting Artur Davis as you did. I know him and am so disappointed that he would say the first responsibility is to get re-elected! True Dems, we have to take our party back.

  105. Well now isn’t this just precious-…………………

Obama is going to win this thing with or without y’all. If y’all want to vote for that old cracker McCain, be my guest!”

Guess us miserable, depressed angry white bitches must be getting to the bots – at least this one can spell – probably learned how to write a little too…guess our education system can’t be all bad…………

  107. The FL Democratic Party has just emailed me the happy news that 400 Obama volunteers are in training to blanket the state. Oh. joy. One of the party officers has confessed he’s not certain that Sen. Obama can carry Broward Co. As we have approx/ 20% of FL registered Democrats, that could be quite a problem. What a fun summer this will be.

  108. Is it typical for a (presumptive) nominee to move DNC headquarters like this? Did Bill, Gore, or Kerry do this?

  109. I’m pretty sure none of them did.

And this is excellent fodder for the 527’s. Does anyone NOT associate the Chicago machine with corruption?

  110. votermom, they are bringing change to Washington. They are making it more like Chicago. Aren’t you pleased?

  111. I really miss Hillary. The 2 GE candidates are boring as hell. I really, really miss her and I am not ready to stop missing her.

  112. I think the people who come here are generally angry and controlling people who enjoy being annoying for it’s own sake. I can’t imagine they have any illusion of getting support for obama with these tactics.

Maybe they feel *somehow* feel betrayed because Dems are supposed to support the Dem candidate no matter what. They find it easier to overlook the shady business that led us to this potential nominee and think we should overlook it too?

    Maybe both?

  113. Oh, I need to clarify! I was responding to Teresa’s question about the trolls… But gosh, my first sentence makes me LOOK like a troll.

I must have gone to troll school where ‘you can be a troll or just look like one! ‘

  115. Chicago, Chicago…..yeah, that’ll clear up the DC corruption, eh? Heh.

Welcome to the New Obama Party–Chicago Central.

    Uh-huh.

  116. jjmtacoma, I think we are living through an allegory of America’s sexism. I call it “the morality play”. Hillary has been the one to take the arrows for millions of women. To me, the Obama supporters are exactly like the hundreds of thousands of abusive men in this world. They want to slap you around until they get their way, and then when they do, you are supposed to accept it and love them.

I would not be this angry at the Obama campaign if they had not trashed every principle of the Democratic party. Now, they want to come here and guilt trip us about our loyalty to the party.

The party has become a drunk abusive husband. Many Obama supporters castigated Clinton for staying with Bill after the Monica scandal, and that was over infidelity, saying it was a bad example for women. Now, the DNC is slapping us around, and telling us we have to take it. I think we should do as they say and set an example for women. Let’s leave the abusive Bastards!

    CB:

Great work by your PAC – thank you.

A few comments on your ad: I believe one of the items high on the list of problems with th DNC is what they did with the votes of Florida and Michigan. They violated the basic principles of democracy – one person, one vote. They ignored violations by states that were friendly to the other guy. They did not respect the fact that voters had no say in setting the dates of the primaries, they refused to cooperate to hold another primary, and the final nail was how they decided to allocate the votes in Michigan, where they arbitarilly assigned uncommitted votes to one candidates AND they took away some of the Hillary’s votes and gave them to the other side. Effectively, they OVERRODE the will of the people.

I urge you to put something on the list of concerns in the ad that showcases the undemocratic nature of the final vote tally – beyond just the caucuses.

  119. This is a coup in the making Chicago-style. As crazy as it sounds, we’ll have to depend on the Republicans to throw the b******s out if they ever take office. The Rs wouldn’t do it to GWB but they won’t hesitate to take BO out. Who would have thought the Republicans may be the salvation of the true Democratic Party?

  120. votermom, they are bringing change to Washington. They are making it more like Chicago. Aren’t you pleased?

That depends, Mawm. Do I get a deep-dish pizza to go with this new democracy?

  121. I am at my mother’s place and she just got mail from Obama. It was filled with platitudes about Hillary and then a check return card. The check return card says “Dear Barack, I agree! We are the ones we’ve been waiting for…we are the change we seek. You can count on me to support you and our movement for change all the way to the White House” Jesus, this may as well been a soliciation from the 700 club. It’s so creepy.

  124. jjmtacoma, Some of us old New Dealers have been written out of the DNC’s “New Democratic Coalition.” So it’ s rather nonsensical for the Boyz to come here and suggest we’re not “real” Democrats when Brazile et al have already “defined” us out of the party.

  128. Mawm, I love your postings. The Obama campaign and the DNC don’t give any of us credit for realising that we’ve been duped. This website does feel like our “shelter” – it keeps us whole and sane and aside from the occasional “abusive husband” troll, we can speak and think and feel freely. I often wonder what it would have felt like if this primary process had been fair and someone had won the contest with honor. Perhaps it would have been easier to move on, but as it is, I feel that we are carrying the torch not only for HRC but for all abused women.

Boredom is the last of our problems.

  130. I thought that Bush is considered the worst president ever. Now we have the worst candidate ever in Obama. If there is any hint of truth in the report the DNC is moving headquarters to Chicago we really need to take the blinders off. This is serious. What are these guys up to? And I mean policy wise.

  131. I think the DNC moving to Chicago means that it will be staffed with all of the Daley machine cronies.

  132. pm317…..I am ready for Clinton as POTUS but nothing will change until the convention in Denver and that is if we continue to speak out about the fiasco with the DNC. Trust me, I know that the current candidates will be useless at effecting change of any kind and getting our country back on track.

  133. Sorry, but this is getting sinister in appearance. Where are the voices out there who can make a difference? We can rant and rave but it is going to take somebody with clout to speak out.

  134. Mawm:
You are absolutely right. I think there is nothing more shocking or upsetting to an abuser than when his favorite victim leaves.

    Len:
I have to admit, I was self identified Dem but ONLY because my list of priorities were most closely aligned with the DNC priorities. If the RNC changes to support my priorities, then I will be a self identified Repub.

  135. I never thought I would ever say or do it but if it takes me going out to actively work on the McCain campaign here in MA to assure his win I will do it. This needs to be stopped.

  136. What kind of operations would move to Chicago that can’t already be done in DC in the fairly new headquarters?

And yes, they do seem to have money issues. Back in March, the DNC had 4 million and now they have 4.4 million. Its not taking into account expenditure and burn rates but whatever they raised, its a puny amount.

From my memory, the RNC went from 30 some odd million in march to 53 million in June.

Either Dean sucks at fundraising, is spending like a drunken sailor, or someone is pilfering money.

  137. The convention should cost about 50 million but I think thats a separate account. McAuliffe’s book had interesting passages about the process needed to make the 2004 convention.

  138. Just checked out the Politico site. The responses are breathtaking. I would say that about 90% think this is a wonderful idea, shows his leadership skills, blah, blah, blah. Unbelievable!

Several other comments are reflective of ours. Like, what the hell is going on here?

  139. WS: or maybe, po’d Clinton supporters aren’t sending anything and the DNC is paying extra for the return envelopes stuffed with hats, junk mail, pennies, etc… AND obama supporters are sending money to obama mostly…

  143. He said the Wednesday after the last primarie that this was his party now. He meant every word. I am chilled to the bone.

  144. My Republican sister said Senator Clinton lost because of Bill–Hillary had to keep cleaning up what Bill said. She is so wrong. If anything, Bill should have spoken up more often about the “fairy tale” on all levels so many were buying into. President Clinton gave us a hint when he said it would be great to see the two patriots (Hillary and McCain) squaring off against each other. No one can accuse BO of being a patriot and Bill Clinton didn’t, but the people who should be listening are not.

  145. @ Pat Johnson:

that’s the new netroots initiative Obama started- send those little spammers out all over the web to sing his praises. Ben’s been taking a lot of flak from them for weeks now.

  146. I do not remember Kerry moving a large contingent of the DNC to Boston in 2004. Dean must be getting the fast shuffle aside from those Obama supporters. See Howard, when you play with bullies they eventually turn their attention over to you. He is probably without much muscle these days and his term will soon be up this Fall. Donna B is supposed to replace him from what I have read.

    Fasten your seatbelts.

  147. wonkette is funny:

OBAMA LETS DNC MOVE IN WITH HIM: It never ends with this guy. First he steals all of Hillary’s Florida and Michigan delegates, from women, and now he is stealing the entire DNC. According to Politico’s Ben Smith, “In a major shakeup at the Democratic National Committee — and a departure from tradition — large parts of the committee’s operations are relocating to Chicago to be fully integrated with the Obama campaign.” You’re letting the DNC move in with you, Barry? Well when it demands that you marry it, to make it “an honest DNC,” don’t say we didn’t warn you.

too late for that. this one is without benefit of clergy, as we used to say in my neighborhood.

  148. My God, I just read that post that singled gary out for racism. These people are despicable. This was the constant drumbeat that dogged Hillary day in and day out. It is making me physically ill.

  149. pat–his comment about the spanish word referring to moors is a flat out lie. and he is the one using those despicable words. its incredible

  152. jj your right….I should have just left him there in his playpen to scream at himself and not give him the attention he is seeking. it just blows my mind though, the depth of depravity of these people….

  153. I am getting upset to the point where my reasoning is getting clouded. All that keeps coming to mind are the Brown Shirts.
After reading that entry attacking Gary I am watching a pattern of abuse that will continue until this guy is defeated. He must be.

  154. jj- yeah, but like bboomer said the other day when he went off on her–I thought I was famous, then I found out it was a two bit nobody with a blog that nobody ever visits… :)

  155. They’ve taken over HillaryClinton.com as well – no bad thoughts now kiddies.

It must be the Obama bloggers who are still on the payroll trying to sway everyone in to believing we don’t exist – neutralize us – as I’ve heard.

We have to twice as vocal – I’m a regular at the DNC call in – telling them exactly what I think. I’m trying to blog as much as possible, etc. We all have to stay strong and keep up the fight – our country is at stake here. The DNC really scares me – so far left it’s almost right!

  156. I am truly unnerved right now. Just came in from weeding and my roses are in full bloom. Such beauty that asks for nothing and gives so much. Then the viciousness and sliminess of this campaign intrudes on that interlude and it bothers me to no end. Where is my country going? I have nothing but bad feelings.

  157. OK, I made a quick visit to TM — just the front page and skimmed through some of the posts. Looks like she is now in “no man’s land.” In one post she is lamenting Obama’s team has not reached out to her and in another she is demanding Clinton fix the current divide. I feel she jumped on the rat boat too fast.

  158. I really miss Hillary.

    I miss Hill.
    I miss Bill.

Heck, at this point, I think I even miss Poppy Bush. :(

  160. TM must be sorry she opened the door and allowed the vermin into the house by mistake. Even she must be able to see what is happening to her “beloved” party since this was her main objective in backing Obama.

  161. Jules: He said it the day after the last Tuesday primary during a speech he was delivering somewhere within the 57 states. I was aghast at how quickly he seized control of the message since Hillary did not suspend until Saturday.

  171. Ann on I referred to a spanish word “fantasma” which means “ghost” I wrote in my post what it means. that dumbass said it refers to moors (which he in turn declares is my code for “spook”). Mr BO is beginning to show an unquenchable thirst for power…well, i suppose daytime talk show high priestess, miss O, can report live from the scene now.

Millions of us would love to know when in the history of campaigns someone running for the nomination/presidency was ever treated in the manner Senator Clinton has been treated thus far? Even Mr. Dean with a paltry 5.7% of the vote showed up on the convention floor in the last nomination cycle. He did not hand over his 103 delegates until the first day of the convention:

I think he’s gotten very cocky – too cocky for his own good. Yay!

  175. We should be worried about right-wing Democrats for what reason? That’s right up there with Scaife’s endorsement of Sen. Clinton.

  176. Hey, Gary, did you know your post was racist? Yeah, so sayeth the Too Old for Maxim, Too Young for Maxim guy . You probably are a latent racist. Like you only realized that you are one now, about 12 hours after you wrote that piece of KKK filth.

It’s good to see you. Have you been super busy at work? How is your weather? Ours was gorgeous today. I took myself to the garden store and spent way too much on flowers.

  178. RD, yeah I saw that…..it actually took me a while to figure out how he came to that conclusion….I have no idea where he got the moor BS, like I said further up, there haven’t been any moors in Spain for over 500 years….. :)

  179. and I could have told him that a common expression in spanish is “Que moro!” which actually means “what a moor you are!” to mean “you have no shame”…its been around for centuries.
