The Lady Speaks: Live Blog

Chins up, PUMAs. If she can bear it, so can we.
This is a live blog.
See it on CSPAN. The commentary on CSPAN is coming from voters, not pundits.

  1. No, actually, Randy, we aren’t. But thanks for playing.

  2. I’m here, I’m pissed, trying to watch this calmly. But yes, if she can bear it, so can I. I guess. Wish I had one tenth of her strength.

  3. I love Terry Mac. So much.

And yes there will be crying.

  4. Hello, can somebody please record it and make a script or so? We are part of the “low income community” who can’t afford 100$ a month for broadband, so we only have dial-up and can’t see any videos or streams.

She is on now and I am (almost) dying to know what she says. I don’t want to listen to the radio to tell me their opinion what she said!

  5. Wow! What a crowd. What a beautiful setting.

  6. The link I was sent from Hillary’s campaign website isn’t working for me. Does anyone have an alternate link?

  7. albgardis, I’m sure the Clinton campaign will send out a transcript from the website.

  8. I was watching the bloviaters…but I couldn’t watch, so I turned on MTV to watch their dance crew competition. That was much cooler (I’ve never seen it before!!).

Now I’m just listen to Ms. Maines song, with the TV in the background, waiting for the shrill male commentators to stop talking…

  9. Well this is a sad day.

You can watch here, Seth – http://edition.cnn.com/live/

  10. They probably won’t put it up till Hillary actually starts talking.

  11. cnn.com has a live stream up, Seth.

  12. albgardis: You can get DSL for a lot less than $100/month. It costs me about $20/month. But we will keep you up to date until you can contact your cable or phone company to get a DSL modem. It will be online for a long time. CSPAN will no doubt keep it in the archives.

  13. I love the callers on CSPAN. So many passionate, articulate women who will not vote for he who shall not be named.

  14. I have no doubt that there are crying fits happening at the DC house. She’s not gonna come out looking like this gets to her. Big Dawg’ll buck her up. Assuming that it’s not Big D who’s crying.

  15. The bloviators on CNN are revolting. Checking to see if this on C-SPAN.

  16. I wish Gloria B (on CNN) would shut her F*CKING mouth she is so into Obama it makes me sick I almost can not watch this them sitting there telling us what she “has to say” what she “needs” to do what she better say, and how she better get us all in line with a “good” speech or else. I would love for her to say (which I know won’t happen) but say Dem’s shove it where the sun don’t shine and I’m running INDEPENDENT.

  17. Albgardis: If you have CSPAN, that is your best bet. They are taking phone calls from supporters as well. What amazes me is that so many callers earlier were urging her to run as an Independent. And I know she won’t do it but I’m beginning to believe that the only way a woman of Hillary’s caliber *can* win is by going outside of the party apparatus.

  18. PUMA Power is already a huge fierce force to be reckoned with. There are thousands, MILLIONS, of us out here and we will be heard all over America.

I plan on being a huge part of the Michigan Chapter of PUMA. In this thread I hope we hear call outs from the other state chapters as we cheer and support Hillary today during her speech.

Here’s to Hillary, Goddess you are good. It is far from over and we know it. This Michigan patriot supports you 1000%. Always, now, today, and forever. Always have, always will.

  19. Tracy,

I’m with you. They have all the women who were traitors this season on, all bloviating about what Hillary should do. I’ve switched to C-SPAN.

That said, what PUMA power needs is a central point of connection, possibly a third party candidate to rally around. We need to be able to focus this outrage and energy, so that our power is felt come November.

  20. I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if a true third party comes out of this.

I won’t watch the result of them pushing Hillary out when such a thing has never in history been done to men.

I will continue doing what I’m doing now, which is educating people about the thuggish behavior in the DNC and voting against it at every level of government.

  21. We all need to call in to CSPAN’s Clinton supporter line!!

  22. Watch the speech on C-SPAN. It is streaming online.

  23. I wasn’t going to watch but I must.

I do not want to hear her reasoning. I know what she’ll say. But after a year and a half of my life, I have to give her this one. I have to respect her desire for me to listen, I have to respect her right to say it.

Then I move on into the diaspora. The great scattering of Democrats looking for a home.

    NH

  24. Fox is reporting that she hasn’t left her house yet and it’s about a 20 minute drive.

  25. She just left her house.

  26. I’m on C-SPAN, and she’s just left! I can’t stand to watch Donna Brazile on CNN. Ugh!

  27. annabellep, turned on C-SPAN thanks for the info I was about ready to turn it off.

  28. P arty
    U nity
    M y
    A ss!!

I’d rather live 4 years of McCain that vote for CHEATER who threw “Democracy” out of the “Democratic Party.”

Hillary will ask us to unite, vote for 0bambi, but I sure as hell won’t.

Hear me growl! My “Unity” is for candidates who win fair & square – like it has been for as long as I’ve been a Democrat.

But this Yellow Dog morphed into a PUMA. Try to ask for my vote now, beyotch.

  29. Yes, I’m watching CSPAN. They said she
was running about 30 minutes late. Thanks
for the live blog, riverdaughter. I don’t want
to watch this alone, but I can’t stand to listen
    to the journos.

  30. Shallow is best I can stand: What will she wear I wonder?

  31. I’m watching this on Fox and Cspan. Fox newscasters seem irritated that she’s not there on time, so they can follow their schedule. Susan Estrich making fun of the media – no big deal that they’re late, Bill Clinton always late, she says, gives the media time to repeat Peggy Noonan lines.

God, I wished that Clinton was President, so she can tell the media to F off every day.

  32. It will be her party on November 5th.

  33. I bet that on MSNBO they’re telling everyone what she “should”, “must”, “will” say in the interest of party unity.

  34. Can river post It’s My Party and I’ll cry if I want to.

  35. Oh i’m sure on MSNBO(i like that name)lol Chris Matthews is probably having chills down his leg talking about BO playing golf today.

  36. I hope HRC and family stop for a latte and show up an hour late, just to stick it to the media whining about her not adhering to their idiot time rules.

Can you feel the tension of some people out there salivating, waiting for her to concede? It’s like watching a public execution.

Good luck, Hill! We love you!!!

  37. I’m sure it’s not on purpose…but I do like her being late…it’s still on her terms, media, eat it!!

  38. Obama’s supporters are on C-span saying how Hillary ran a dirty campaign

  39. revgrl, she is not conceding is she I thought she was only suspending her campaign did that change?

  40. Tracy – I don’t know what word she’ll use, but she’s not giving up her delegates, that’s all that matters…

  41. Is it my imagination or are Obama supporters using Hillary’s call-line on C-Span?

  42. Is Hillary going to accomplish HER task, which is to UNIFY the Democratic Party and LEAD it to victory in November?

Never mind that we spend and entire year trashing her relentlessly and inviting people who always hated Democrats to do so.

  43. I’m taking one for the PUMAs and watching MessNBO. Tweety and KZero can hardly contain their glee. They are setting expectations they will certainly be able to shoot down after the speech.

In my mind I want to like Rachel Maddow, I really do, but for the life of me she is cut from the same tree as Brazile Nut.

  44. Tracy – thanks, I lost my head there for a minute. Someone just handed me some kool-aid and I took a sip, but didn’t drink all of it. Phew!

  45. captsfufp — Did you hear for sure that she’s keeping the delegates? I hope so.

  46. New Form on the home page and stream of the event at Hill’s site

Support senator Obama today. Send a message.

I can’t repeat what I wrote just now

  47. jules – As a Clinton delegate, I’m pretty sure!!! :)

  48. I am in tears and she hasn’t even started yet.

I hate those effing gloaters – Matthews, Maddow, Olberman-good thing I don’t own a gun….would love to blow their effin heads off.

  49. Terrific, captsfufp!

  50. So, sad. I just went to her website and all that is left is a beg screen to contribute to Obama…

  51. she’s on!!!!!

  52. OK, one caller felt Hillary didn’t have “good morals.”
Voting for Hillary, in her view, would not set a good
example for Chelsea, since “we want [Chelsea]” to
grow up with “good morals,” instead of standing next
to a leader (her mom) who “lies.”

    OK, back to mute.

  53. She’s here! CSPAN.

  54. Here they come…..Bill hugging people, oh that Bill.

  55. Hillary, Hillary….

  56. Ted Danson and Mary are there!!

  57. and the crowd goes WILD!

  58. She’s in black. This is a sad day.

  59. Wow, that’s so nice to have her mom up there. They all look great.

  60. Someone start yelling “Denver! Denver!”

  61. Sh’e so fab!! Look how poised.

  62. Oh, I was restraining myself from commenting earlier because I was so sick of the pundits slamming her for not having conceded on Election Night. That’s when you’re supposed to concede! It was so jarring, so disrespectful! Blah blah blah. You know things are topsy-turvy when Pat Buchanan is the voice of reason who says, hey, you know, it wasn’t really an election night, and Ronald Reagan never conceded to Gerry Ford, and Teddy Kennedy never conceded to Jimmy Carter, and its only been three days and she was beating him and so shut the fuck up already.

Yeah. Pretty topsy turvy. I’m not sure I can actually live blog because I’m already crying.

  63. The guy with the kid is crying. Good for him

  64. OMG…I think I just saw a dad carrying his little girl wipe a tear from his eye…

  65. Even Hillary can not convince me to vote for Obama. I hate the behavior or the DNC and I will not reward it.
If she were on the ticket I would be forced to vote for it, however I hope she stays a million miles away from that crappy candidate the DNC shoved down our throats. That way I can gladly help put an end to him every being anywhere near the white house, he and his low rent manipulative wife.

  66. Great opening line. This isn’t the party I planned, but I sure like the company.

How does she manage to stand up there and look so strong and so poised.

  67. I’ve been trying for 30 minutes to get through on the Hillary call-line on C-Span, but can’t. From what I’m hearing, it does seem as if it’s being tied up by Obamakids. I can’t watch any more. I guess they’ll find out about PUMA Power in November!

  68. God I will always love her.

  69. You can be anything you want to be except a strong woman running for president as long as Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews are alive.

  70. This is the only time I hope she doesn’t tell us to go to her website…

  71. I’m already crying buckets. I cannot live thorugh this – HOW does she do this?

  72. New Yorkers, yeah…

  73. Did I see Gloria Steinem? Where the hell has she been during this campaign?!

  74. Damn it…tears coming. I didn’t want to cry.

  75. yeah, i saw her….jeebs…

  76. Oh, I like that – “sometimes argued with your friends
and neighbors.” God, they love her! She is the real
    winner.

  77. OMG…the dad with both daughters in his arms is trying not to cry…

  78. I can’t stop my tears. I’m so happy to share this with all of you. PUMA!!!

  79. people are moved.

  80. revgrl,

Steinem supported Hillary and wrote opeds in the NYT.

  81. She’s not obeying.

    She’s thanking HER voters.

    She’s talking about herself.

    Can anyone say “deranged narcissism?”

  82. Prolix:

I am watching MessNBC too. I feel like a double agent. KO, Tweety and my erstwhile favorite Rachel Maddow have been outdoing themselves. At least Tweety hasn’t used the word “obey.” Yet.

They were actually saying that she couldn’t pay tribute to her own campaign or her own supporters! Ugh.

Well, STFU, MessNBC, because she’s doing it right now.

  83. Dreams we share…..oh, oh…

  84. Dreams are worth fighting for

  85. MABlue,

    She still rocks. Always will.

  86. Democracy, ouch DNC

  87. annabellep,

Yes, I saw the NYT OpEds, but didn’t Steinem also say she would support BO if nominee?

  88. She’s talking about stuff SHE cares about.

When is she se going to COMMAND us to worship Obama?

  89. It’ll be hard to keep the crowd from boo-ing if what’s-his-name is mentioned…

  90. “You will always find me on the front lines of
    democracy” . . . . Yes, yes, yes!!!!

  91. Barack rocks….not really.

  92. Now she thinks she’s Evita

  93. “You’ll always find me on the front lines”

She doesn’t seem like a loser. She’s astonishingly inspiring.

  94. hah! a healthy boo for the first mention of obama. good.

  95. I heard boos. Not like I’d hear at an Obama rally at the mention of Clinton, but still.

  96. Does she look angry to y’all? Or is it just what I want her to be? She had the same expression on her face just now when she said ‘we need to help elect Barack…’ as earlier when she’d said ‘Shame on you, Barack Obama, meet me in Ohio’.

  97. No We Will Not Support B. Obama!!!!

  98. Some glum faces when she endorsed Obama.

  99. “SUSPEND” NOT CONCEDE

  100. Alright Hillary.

There is where we part ways.

  101. fuck Barack Obama.

  102. Lmom, thinking that Pat Buchanan is a voice of reason that I would even listen to makes me feel dirty. He has been as close to a gentleman as there has been in this cycle.

  103. No we are not going to work for him.

  104. louder boos…

  105. “The way to continue our fight now…is to take our energy and our passion and do everything we can to help elect Barack Obama the next president of the United States….I endorse him and throw my full support behind him.”

    Good enough for you, Keith?

Sorry, Hillary, I am not sure I can do what you ask. And evidently, not everyone in the crowd is sure either.

  106. sorry
    hill
    aint
    gonna
    happen

  107. Obama is inspiring….

  108. MessNBC says is a coded message to wait for his assassination.

  109. She just “suspended” her campaign. She didn’t “concede”.

Anything’s possible between now and the convention.

  110. Are those boos or hoorahs? It seems mixed to me!!

  111. And the crowd looks….um, glum

  112. Well, not HIllary, it is not exactly what I am going to do. Damned she is gracious

  113. She’s saying what she has to, but she’s sure isn’t feeling it. Good for her.

  114. Robin:

The pundits have already warned us not to place any significance on the word “suspend.” They say she has to do that for legal reasons in order to allow fundraising to pay off her campaign debt.

I’m just repeating what they said, not endorsing it.

  115. The audience isn’t quite with her on working for Obama.

  116. What about the ones we don’t, Hillary?

I wish I could go on that path with you.

  117. Chelsea is so not happy, but proud.

  118. I was welling up, profusely, watching so many women (and men) crying or trying their best not to. That woman has inspired a nation.

But sorry, Hillary, as much as you’ve earned my respect and admiration Senator Obama has not earned such from me.

  119. YES! No concession!

  120. I’m leaving this dysfunctional family, sorry Hill

  121. I’m glad she’s putting a lot of emphasis on the economic and healthcare.

  122. All right, she did her “thing,” now she can talk about the real issues for the rest of the speech…

  123. people in the crowd are not excited. Oh, oh, her voice is breaking

  124. I love her, but I can’t do what she’s asking.

  125. Prolix: you’re right. She was glowing when she started, but not now. She’s doing her duty. And I understand why.

I have all the respect in the world for her. For Obama? Not so much.

  126. She is really speaking to gay inclusion today. Nice. I hope she’s pushing BO in that regard.

  127. Its all up to Obama. Can’t blame her if he loses.

  128. Nice! Vindicate Bill!

  129. 40 years, Bill won two time…heh.

  130. YEAH BILL!!!

  131. Yeah Bill! Obamabots are probably bitter that she won’t pretend that Bill doesn’t exist.

  132. talking up Bill – good for her!

  133. 10 elections, we won 3. 2 by Clinton. If the Dem Party screws up in 2008, we’ll be a laughingstock to lose a Dem year.

  134. Is H blackmailing us? She rocks.

  135. And how much did we love how Madame Clinton embraced us all – Latino, Asian, Black, White, Rich, Poor, Gay and Straight.

    WHY! WHY! WHY!

And I LOVED hearing those boos when she mentioned BO’s name. (Hillary knows she was chuckling a bit on the inside herself. LOL)

  136. She’s rubbing Bill on people faces.

  137. Oh no she’s not offering up that kool-aid and drinking it by the gallon the media is going to be mad

  138. It’s definitely a good “Vote Dem” speech…

  139. I can’t do it. I can’t work for him. I don’t think I can even vote for him.

  140. They don’t realize that it isn’t we bloggers who are the problem It’s people like my friends and my mother’s friends who have already made up their mind: it’s McCain.

  141. “To stretch the boundaries of the possible….”

    Really nicely-written speech.

  142. Yes we can…barfing right now, sorry.

  143. In my stat book, in 44 years it will still be 3 for 11.

  144. PUMA. PUMA.
    NO WE WON’T.

  145. carissa — don’t worry. If we want Hillary back, we can’t vote for him.

  146. You vote for Barack then, H.

  147. “Yes, we can” was just 89 steps too far.

    No.

  148. No we won’t.

  149. Carissa,

I feel your pain. I originally thought, months ago, I’d be able to work for him. Not now. And not sure now that I can vote for him. Certainly not ready to say that today. It’s okay.

  150. Insurance for all, so we have to elect Barack. Well, then you better straighten him out Hillary.

  151. Bottom line: BO not a democrat and this is not the democratic party.

  152. Keep plugging your health care program Hill — use your leverage

  153. He won’t fight for UHC

  154. crowd is less than enthused about “elect Barak Obama for president”

  155. I can’t bear to watch Chelsea’s face.

  156. She’s not rubbing Bill in people’s faces, she’s reminding us all of who actually WON as an oblique cautionary, Listen up and learn.

  157. Regardless of this election’s outcome, it’s clear to me that Hillary has only just begun to shine. For those who thought this was the way to rid themselves of the Clintons — HA!

  158. She’s doing what she “has” to do….but she’s doing it in her way…

  159. I’m sorry, but this really is not doing it for me. I know she’s just doing what she has to.

  160. This is actually sort of a parody.

  161. She’s saying what she has to say.

Hillary wants us to help Obama “out.” (Heh.)

Game isn’t over yet. Not by a long chalk.

    Chins up, PUMAs!

  162. She’s trying to create a mantra of “that is why we must elect Barack Obama our president.”

Notice this is all about why we need a Dem in the White House, not BO.

Tweety and KO will be angry. Heh.

  163. This is bigger than Hillary. This is about the country. I think anyone knows who is watching is that she doesn’t believe a word of this. This is being forced on her.

  164. Going with RonK:

    “No we won’t”

  165. Wife is not voting for O either, you know that , right, H?

  166. I’m not helping, sorry. If you were actually speaking about the Democratic party as it has been the last 8 years, instead of what it ought to have been, it might be different. Dems have no one to blame but themselves.

  167. I love it. She keeps defining support for Obama
    on her terms/policies.

  168. Yes, I noticed the gay inclusion, too. Good for her for raising the stakes there.

  169. ain’t going to happen

  170. Can a woman really serve as Commander-in-Chief?

    And the answer is no!

  171. She is a good soldier.

  172. With Obama we are slipping backwards.

  173. Good one, Regency.

  174. I like the difference she is making with “have to elect” instead of “should.” She is being a better soldier than 19 of the 30 assholes on the RBC.

  175. Slipping back is right, MABlue.

  176. when she says ‘…..Barack Obama our president’ – i CRINGE. For the first time in all these months, I do not want to hear Hillary speak any more.

Please, please Hillary – enough, you’ve done your duty. Now stop. Now, please, go back and emphasize Bill’s and your achievements.

  177. Cut the pursestrings. Begin easy. Boycott OPRAH. She turned the tide.
    BOYCOTT OPRAH.

  178. You think, H.? What barriers are you talking about?

  179. Uh oh, she is talking about sexism. KO and Tweety will be blowing their brains out now.

  180. “work as hard for him as you did for me?”

hillary, i’ll do anything to help you, but i can’t promise you that.i worked as hard as i did for you because you stood for universal health care and a bunch of other CORE DEMOCRATIC VALUES. obama attacked universal health care from the right. he really, really doesn’t give a shit about the poor and the sick.

  181. O.K., enough of B.O., we will not stand behind him!!!!

  182. Good, she’s mentioning the barriers and biases against women.

  183. I respect her for keeping her word to (try to) unite the party. However, now that I am no longer a Democrat, that is not my problem or obligation. I will examine all of my other options outside of voting for Obama.

  184. Not “have to elect” “have to help elect” I think there is a difference. She’s saying, don’t blame me when he goes down.

  185. respect, a la DNC?

  186. Heh. Standing O on women’s issues. The nerve of that woman!

    I love her.

  187. I am so friggin’ proud of her right now!!!

  188. Best part of the speech.

  189. I agree she’s a good soldier. This is Obama’s race. He has to win it on his own, and we’ll find out if he can. The McCain people already see several weaknesses with Obama though.

I just don’t want her blamed if Obama loses in November.

  190. YES! Equal opportunity, equal pay, equal respect!

  191. Wow, no acceptable limits or prejudices. Nice. I like this focus on women’s rights and progress.

  192. Take that MessNBO

  193. My friends. Heh.

  194. OMG she said “my friends.” She’s endorsing McCain

  195. NO WE WON”T. WE ARE THE CHANGE WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR.

  196. I forgot to add snark.

  197. Not even the DNC?, they thought you shouldn’t go on.

  198. Never listen to anyone who says you can’t or shouldn’t go on.

    AWSOME. eff you MSM

  199. Never listen to anyone who says you can’t or shouldn’t go on!

  200. To those who are disappointed that we couldn’t go all the way…it would break my heart that if in falling short of my goal, I would discourage anyone else from pursuing theirs…and never listen to anyone who says you can’t or shouldn’t go on…

Imagine the profanity in the MessNBC studios at this moment. Enjoy the thought.

  201. Woman into WH.

  202. I loved her line: “don’t let anyone tell you you cannot go all the way”

  203. She is saying BO way to much. I can’t stand it. Well, at least they can’t she didn’t try. They will blame her anyway, when he loses in November. Oh well, I will never vote for Obama, not even Hillary can make me!
    Still Love Her Anyway!!!!!!!

  204. 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling.

  205. 18 million cracks…I love that…

  206. We needed Hillary at the Alamo.

  207. Next time, path a little bit easier.

  208. She is so brilliant!! “18 mill cracks.”

  209. Thanks Charles — follow his link.

I just donated money the PUMA PAC. See his post at Puma Boy with a Mean Kick

You should front page the link River.

  210. AA, woman, president….

  211. “The glass ceiling has eighteen million cracks in it” LOL.

  212. Everytime they show Chelsea it just about breaks my heart. She is trying very hard to strong, but her feelings show.

  213. Looking back…bad.

  214. Tears…..

  215. Stakes to high. Work together.

  216. I’m looking forward…to Denver

  217. Thank you Hillary — but we can’t help but look back . . ..

But we are not going to join you. We will be donating to http://blog.pumapac.org/

  218. Chelsea looks so sad,

  219. 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling! She said the Glass Ceiling phrase, and the S-WORD: SEXISM! Sexism is on the table in a major way!

  220. “If we can blast a woman into space, we will someday
launch a woman into the White House.”

  221. Boy the DNC is going to be surprised, come November.

  222. She keeps saying “that is why we must help elect Barak Obama our president” and a vocal portion of the crowd is booing.
Don’t tell me – this is her “yet again undermining him.” Olberman et al will emphasize and blame her for the supporters reactio, no doubt.
I don’t believe anything she says will be enough for them.
I just checked out the political cartoons online at msnbc.com.
They were uniformly anti-Hillary (check it out for yourselves) and with all the eliminationist imagery you can imagine.
The only anti-Obama cartoon I saw was one showing him writing “potatoe” and press writer commenting ” oh, now how to spell it correctly.” There were others which showed Rev. Wright as an embarrassment to Obama.
This tells the media story more than any articles I have read on the subject.

  223. She did her mandatory BO speel, but this speech is about Hillary and her causes. I love you with all my heart Hillary, but he is an illegitimate candidate that was manipulated into position. He will never get my support. I will never forget the race-baiting (grace? hardly) I will never forget the sexism. I will never forget the hypocrisy and arrogance. I will never forget the RBC travesty. It is not democracy. You cannot abandon principles and the claim their importance for this country.

    PUMA!

  224. Will we stand united?

  225. Watching the close ups on some faces in the audience is proving impossible without fighting back the tears. So many see their dreams in Hillary’s candidacy.

Anyone else tear up as she mentioned the 13-year-old girl who saved up money, over two years, to visit Disney World; but chose to invest it all in traveling to Penn. to aid in her campaign? ((((((tears)))))) ((((applause)))))

  226. Uh oh, she brought out the unity pony. Not gonna ride that horse!

  227. Not gonna stand united.

  228. From wonkette —

Keith Olbermann is very upset about the lateness, because he didn’t prepare enough snide comments to last another half-hour. Maybe he should use the time to apologize for going overboard and making ladies support John McCain. …

12:20 — Goddamnit Keith, can you please stop making pantsuit jokes on nation teevee?

  229. I just left Hillary a message on her website that I would NOT be supporting or voting for Obama and that I’ve left the Democratic Party and am now an Independent, of course giving her all the reasons why.

I’m a Proud PUMA and and PUMAs don’t let other PUMAs vote Obama!

  230. Yes edwardian, that’s where I lost it.

  231. eff obama

  232. No, no, may God bless you, senator. What a pro!

  233. They love her but they are not buying that. Neither am I.

  234. this just sucks.

  235. This is our moment….and she sounded like she really meant it.

I have to go cry some more now.

  236. Oh well…

  237. She added that 40 years, 3 victories again, at the end.

  238. She is Al Gore to Obama’s Bush. She has been specifically calling him out during this speech, but he is gonna toss those concerns overboard the first chance he gets. I don’t trust him as far as I can throw a grand piano.

  239. I am so glad I turned of MessNBC months ago.

  240. Wow.

  241. GD the Democratic Party!

  242. And she still works the rope line…I would just wanna go home and never see anyone…she’s such a fighter, such a role model…

  243. Well “my friends”, what next?

  244. What a classy lady she is. I’m from the UK but was so upset watching her today. Maybe a lot of women had a dream invested in her. It’s very sad.

  245. Upstate…as for me…lunch

  246. She almost broke into tears in the beginning.

  247. UpstateNY – Next? Change my voter registration.

  248. Oh jeez, KO already complaining about “self-congratulations” and not talking about Obama until 6 minutes.

KO, “Was it strong to enough to say I hope and pray you will join me and support Obama….”

KO apparently thinks she should have demanded that her supporters OBEY her. Because, you know, that’s what women are supposed to do.

  249. The Democratic Party does not deserve her.

  250. She blew me away … what a leader. I have to go for a spell, but don’t you worry, I’ll be back Pumas!!

  251. Resign all my Democratic Party positions…

  252. Yes, airliebird, and men too.

  253. PUMA’S we must stick together now more than ever. We must never let them forget what they did. I will not be a good little dem and condone this hijacking.
Good Luck and God’s Speed Hillary. You did what you had to do, now I will follow my own path.

  254. I love her and respect her speech but I will never ever vote for Obama I can’t believe he didn’t come and sit on the stool looking downwards like he always does(when getting endorsed) except for when his name is spoken then he gets that stupid half smile on his face and gives a wave then puts his head back down.

  255. Now I somewhat wished I’d watched.

  256. Watched speech at C-span, now wife cahnged to MSNBC for commentary. Yikes.

  257. litagatormom, how can you even abide KO? But I guess I should thank you for letting me know that with some of these people Hillary will never meet whatever expectation it is they have of her.

  258. I am in awe of her, of her dignity, of her grace, of her intelligence, her compassion.

Honora – you’re right, they don’t deserve her. She is out of their league. And that’s what pisses them off.

  259. Teresa, it will be online soon.

  260. I have to go — I’m late to a friend’s house, but she’ll understand, she’s also a Hillary supporter. I guess we’ll chat about PUMA while sipping something by the pool. Its in the 90s here in NY.

Love you guys. Can’t say how much.

  261. I was out running errands and when I heard Hillary was arriving at the hall in DC, my car went right home so I could see her myself.
This was a wonderful and inspirational speech. I was crying throughout.

I will never vote for barack obama. Period. (and yes, my not capitalizing the name was intentional.

  262. Tweety and KZero are already gearing up to go after her 4 years from now.

  263. KO and Tim think the yes we can line worked out great. Clueless.

  264. “KZero” – Love it!

  265. She won even when she lost. Amazing.

Even if Obama were to win the presidency he’s always going to be overshadowed by her.

  266. John King said there were some thumbs down and boos when she mentioned Obama.

  267. prolix ~ you are so right. They are poison.
and I felt it the moment they opened their ugly mouths

  268. KO is talking about convertions. Jeeeez.

  269. anne – that’s why he’ll never pick her for veep.

  270. Well, it’s a given for me that BO will never get my vote, and I’m no longer a member of the Dem party, so the unity thing is lost on me. But what makes me sad right now is knowing that BO will never work for the issues that Clinton brought up. He doesn’t have to and no one is going to push him on anything — the big money media in the bag, the old boy party establishment behind him, the big donors in his pocket, the fans bowing before him.

Ah Hillary, thanks for bringing up issues like UHC. I think we’ll not hear passion on that issue for a long time.

  271. I broke down and sobbed from the beginning of her speech. But when she said “The Democratic Party is a family,” I just couldn’t handle it. Is is really worth it to do this? She should run as an independent. She could actually win. The Democratic Party is just going to continue to tear her down no matter how humble and subservient she is. I hope this is just for show.

  272. We are witnesses to a mugging. We know what we saw.We know the gang that did it … and their tag-alongs, and their wannabees.

We’re not about to wear their colors, just for “protection”.

  273. Take care Litigator. Hot isn’t it?

  274. WS: Yes, I saw it too — Hillary fighting back tears.

Especially while speaking to the generations of women in their 80s and 90s who were alive to remember not having the right to vote. And when she mentioned the woman who’s voted, via absentee, from her hospice, and passed away soon after (buckets).

  275. @anne: “She won even when she lost. Amazing.”

    Word.

  276. She was fantastic. Just really magnificent. I feel better having watched this. I feel perfectly within my right to be uninvolved until August.

  277. imo she overdid the BO thing …. during that segment . lol , sure glad I have not watched msnbc since super tues in Jan.. I would have stroked out all ready .

She is absolutely the best . She leaves me speechless .

    P.U.M.A. Rocks !

  278. I’m still a Democrat. I will be here to clean up the mess if Obama loses and we’ve survived 7 losses, we can survive another one if Obama loses.

  279. Hi cats, I have to run too. It was great watching this speech with you!! It made it a little easier to bear. I’ll catch up with you all later.

We have lots of work to do before July/November, right?!!

And Obama thinks he can give speeches …

  280. He’ll never pick her for veep, and that would have been the only thing that might, repeat, MIGHT, make me even take voting for him under consideration.

Latina women shouting Hillaree! We so proud of of you! Thank you!

  281. BB: family like in highly disfunctional?

  282. For fuck sake!

If they keep playing “we are family” I will actively campaign for McCain.

  283. I went to Hillary’s website and signed up. Then I wrote several paragraphs about why I cannot support Obama and why I will work against every single politician who endorsed him.

  284. I liked the dark suit of mourning and the blouse of a blue heart.

  285. UpStateNY,
We stand united, we must keep the PUMA POWER ALIVE…

  286. But she should definitely try to change the nomination process to resemble the Republican nomination process. That and UHC.

  287. Now, that was a class act! I don’t know how she kept it together, but she did with style, grace and eloquence. Though I’d follow her anywhere, I cannot and will not follow her to Obamaland.

But what a role model our sons and daughters have for the future. I am so glad she suspended rather than conceding.

We should all send our postcards as an expression of our profound respect and support. I’ll be sending 2: one with a note of appreciation to Senator Clinton. The other will blast Dr. Dean.

I am one of the 18 million!

  288. UpstateNY,

That’s what I thought when I heard it. Let’s hope Hillary and Bill laughed when they put that in the speech. They know what’s happening. She didn’t say anything about releasing her delegates though, did she?

  289. Ok guys, depression –> action. I just donated $51 to the PUMA PAC.

We will avenge ‘our lady in pantsuits’ :-)

  290. At least, they will leave the “witch” alone now. Now they love her at MSNBC…Look guys, she did not cry, isn’t that great? Everybody loves her now. Hypocrites.

  291. Tim just said that if bo cannot win white woemn by a healthy margin, he will never be elected president. i can only hope.

    He won’t win my vote

  292. I am going to eat now. Be back later.

  293. Kerry lost white women 44-56 to Bush supposedly due to national security moms. We’ll see if McCain can copy Bush’s success.

  294. Breaking News

A call has gone out from the MessNBO anchors to Sen. Larry Craig to come help them with their tingling legs.

  295. These idiots don’t realize they’ve just made an iconic HERO of Hillary Rodham Clinton for generations to come.

  296. C-Span just changed their call in numbers to only 2 choices:

    (202) 585- 3885 Sen Clinton Supporters
    (202) 585- xxxx All Others

  297. So, has anyone come up with a “We will remember in November” bumpersticker yet?

  298. Well, I was not planning on watching because I knew the tears would come, but then I HAD to watch, and as expected, the tears came. I was getting dressed to go to a wedding while watching and the mascara smeared all over my face. It was a TREMENDOUS speech that was FOR HER SUPPORTERS, though she also did her duty for Obama. I cringed everytime she mentioned his name. I will NEVER support that man. What the hell has he ever done for anybody? A big fat nothing. I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED the part where she talked about 18 million cracks in the ceiling. She is the strongest person alive, a true warrior, and I hope to god she will be back in 2012.

  299. Smart move on C-SPAN’s part. The Obamabots were using both lines.

  300. NO NO NO -I will never support Obama! Hillary can throw roses all along his path-
I will never accept this joke of a man. This incompetent, racist, sexist fool- That Hillary, an accomplished woman has had to demean herself and carry his water is beyond the pale. Hillary must do what she must do- But I am not some mindless party loyalist. The DNC has demonstrated they are as despicable and disgusting as BUSH and company. Axel rod is Obama’s Rove (I wonder if he calls him Turd Blossom also?)

  301. If i had better reception, I’d have watched CSPAN. But I’m stuck with NBO.

In a way it’s a good thing as I can feel even more firm in my resolve to not vote for bo.

  302. I liked it when she said she’d worked with Obama for four years in the Senate. Remind everybody of that flimsy CV, Hillary.

  303. LOL, here it comes now. Here come the Obama supporters heaping praise on Hillary. Guess she isn’t a racist anymore. But Bill still is, so I guess he needs to give a speech too.

  304. I’m sort of all out of air here. I have no need at all to help BO do anything. I wsn’t enthusiastic about the idea in March. Even less so now.

Love you guys but there are cartoons with my name on it. I’m low-information, uneducated, and a racist so naturally the cartoons are white.

  305. I’m sure the Obamabots will call on the Hillary line to talk about “unity”

  306. Honora, you said it – the Democratic party as it is today does not deserve this brilliant, articulate, warm, caring woman in their ranks. She is the leader we have been waiting for.

Well, I registered Unaffiliated in NJ – mailed the card in this morning.

RD, would you articulate more on the “suspend” rather than concede for those like me (if any) are unclear about it. The way that I view Hillary, I don’t think she is out of this race yet – wishful thinking?

  307. Anybody else notice Jake Tapper having to acknowledge that the bloc of support BO will have trouble winning over isn’t excluded to women? About time they faced up to that reality, if only partially. I guess it’s harder to deny the diversity when it’s breathing down your neck, everywhere you turn. Ha!

  308. Oh wait, maybe I spoke too soon Meeks on MSNBC now calling Bill a great man. I guess Hillary got a “climb out from under the racism bus” card for the whole family. YeeHa!

  309. As painful as that was, she got through it with grace and strength. I’m glad her obligatory BO speech is now past her.

I hope she can feel all the love, support, and goodwill people have for her today. I’m so proud of her and Bill and Chelsea.

  310. Hmm, I must’ve hit the spam filter. A comment of mine is waiting in moderation.

Not to be pessimistic but barring something extraordinarily scandalous they’ve just doused our chances in November. They have no spines, they will not do the right thing whatever happens. That’s why they wanted Hillary out because we’d be stuck with his Royal snobbishness.

  311. Hillary isn’t trying to fool or disrepect any of her supporters. She KNOWS them all too well. She KNOWS they’re gonna do what they’re gonna do. She KNOWS understands the degree of their fortitude — that it doesn’t favor her opponent. She KNOWS this.

  312. SIMPLY THE BEST! My HERO for all time! Still have tears here. Best speech ever! Suspended! So relieved when she said that word. I was on pins and needles. There will be a miracle! Brilliant woman!

    PUMA

  313. If Hillary is just suspending this might mean she still has her delegates. This explains why Obama is trying to replace his delegates in Florida with his workstaff.

  314. So Jeralyn and TalkLeft have now officiallyl endorsed Barack Obama. So get ready for a lot more traffic Riverdaughter. I don’t hold anything against TalkLeft but I don’t think I’ll be able to post there too much without getting any trouble because now the Obots will descend upon the Hillary people there en masse, as it is now a pro-Obama site.

  315. Marcia: You do know that you’ve got me in stitches over here, right? LOL! Keep it comin’!

  316. What else is new? Obama supporters are cheating on C-Span, calling and saying they are Clinton supporters but that they will “unite” behind Obama now. Yeah, right- As for MSNBC and CNN I can’t stand them and don’t even bother giving them any traffic. Pat Buchanan has been the only fair one- all others are in Obama’s pocket and just as vile as all his supporters

  317. Hillary gave him a sendoff – that’s enough. He can lose on his own.

  318. Chuck Todd just climbed down out of the tree where he bakes cookies in his off time and actually said, “It’s not women as a whole, it is the older uneducated women Sen. Clinton must deliver.”

These people would make a vulture gag.

  319. Gee, Chuck, I’m 35 and I have a post-graduate degree. Ididn’t know that made me uneducated and old.

  320. RD- could you check for some of my comments?
I think they are going into the spam filter-

  321. prolix~ “It’s not women as a whole, it is the older uneducated women Sen. Clinton must deliver.”

i’m gonna go back, get my walker, my centrum 80, and my GED now.
These people are enough to make me violent.

    PUMA !!

  322. Thank you Hillary for all you have done for us. Sorry I cannot support Barack Obama. He does not deserve it. He does not have what it takes to lead the free world.

    Hillary, 2012!

  323. Ah, Jenny, ” I hope something happens to him–I really do!” Totally inappropriate.

  324. Maria Garcia, I think you are right about TalkLeft. I signed up for a logon there ages ago, but could never get it to work so I’ve been a long time lurker. I’m sure most of the Obama supporters have been waiting for this moment to start calling the Hillary supporters site violators. I’ll miss reading your comments!

  325. Well pigs flew. The Obama lovers on MSNBC are creaming their jeans for Hillary now.

  326. Over at No Quarter they have a graphic from Flineo for all of us to use that says:

    No Means No
    NoBama

Go grab it here: Defiance: We Will Not Quit

  327. I wanted to go to her website and let her know how great she was today and let her know I can not support Obama (love it when I type his name it comes up error doesn’t know that word) anyways I am just wondering if she gets a lot of those kind of emails will they make her make another speech saying we can’t be like that and so on? Otherwise I am totally down with letting her know it’s not her it’s him I can not vote for a man I DO NOT TRUST!

  328. I think one of the saddest things to come out of this primary mess is the blantantly untrue charge by many blacks that the Clintons played the race card. (Please note that I said “many”, not all blacks are for Obama; well 100% might be now that he’s the nominee.) Not only did it hurt her campaign, it could hurt her political career in the Senate and her home state. But hey, the “Party” considers them, and the young, and the overeducated rich so much more valuable than any of Hillary’s supporters. We got thrown under that proverbial bus! See article in NYTimes today –http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/06/nyregion/06voices

  329. Well I think Hillary is right. This election is too important. Voting for McCain or staying home only punishes my kiddos – can’t do it. Thank you for your blog riverdaughter, goodbye.

  330. African American pundits and politicians are already trying to walk back the Clinton’s are racist memes now but its too little too late. They knew they were just doing it for political advantage but they unleashed something in the African American community that they may not be able to control. If you listed to callers to Black radio, the meme that Hillary would like to “get rid of” Obama has taken hold among many. It won’t be easy to walk that back.

  331. Regarding the Dem Party as family:

I had a feeling she would take that line. What follows is completely inappropriate speculation, but I will indulge anyway. From what I have read, apparently HRC was reared in a household where the father was disrespectful of the mother, but the mother was always about keeping the family together–recall HRC has spoken about how her mother was abandoned in her youth. HRC, herself, did not leave her marriage despite WJC’s infidelities. If she considers the Democratic Party her family, it is no surprise at all that she made the speech she made today. Someone should send her the statistics on all the women and girls who die at the hands of their husbands, lovers, brothers, and fathers–because either they do not or or not able to leave their families.

Was this behond the pale? I’m saddened that I am more disappointed than angry right now. Just can’t generate the anger, because it was not unexpected.

  332. rabat52: “not all blacks are for Obama; well 100% might be now that he’s the nominee.

    Wrong there, my friend.

  333. edwardian: Thank you for letting me know that.

  334. ea, on June 7th, 2008 at 2:14 pm Said:

Sorry for the error near end of long paragraph. Should be …or are not able…

  335. Unlike Obama supporters, Hillary supporters are independent thinkers. While I continue to support Hillary, I cannot and will not support Obama. I have to look at the candidate and not the party, and McCain is the far superior candidate to Obama and McCain will get my vote in November.

  336. Love the lady. Loved the speech. But am not gonna support Obama.

I have to do what my conscience dictates. And my conscience tells me that if I hold my nose and vote for another crappy “D” I will not be able to live with myself.

I’ve done it many times. But this time is different. Before I always thought the Democratic Party, in spite of it’s many faults, was superior. No longer.

If we do not stay strong and just “go with the flow” because it is comfortable, easier and familiar then we will be endorsing all the corruption of this primary. We will be telling the DNC, The Democratic Leadership and the media that they can get away with anything and we will get on the bandwagon.

I think they’re wrong. I think they “misunderestimated” the integrity of many of the people in their own party. And they certainly should have known that many Democrats are NOT at all like good obedient little Conservatives. We will not obey.

PUMA is POWER so long as we stand together!

Hi Maria Garcia, another Talkleft refugee I see. Couldn’t stand all the little Obamacrats taking up residence over there. Said my goodbyes and moved on.

  337. Obama = McCain

    McCain = Obama

    Not much of a choice.

  338. Electing Obama turns the party in a direction that isn’t good for our future, your kid’s future.

Turning the Democratic Party into a corrupt wing of the Chicago Pay-to-Play machine will only hurt our country.

Voting AGAINST Obama is the patriotic thing to do.

  339. Denying Senator Clinton the presidency–and the way it was done–ranks up there with the Iraq war as a monumental mistake and one this country will bitterly regret.

The man for our time is a woman.

  340. Hello all. Hillary did what she absolutely needed to do. No one can now blame Hillary when Obama loses the GE (even though I am sure they might try). Hillary knows her supporters – she did this for her own future and that is fine. The Democratic Party is going to learn a huge lesson now. Maybe we can take back the Dem Party and then take back the country. The world will not come to an end if McCain is president. He is moderate and a Dem Congress can keep things in balance (if they do their job), and the future will be bright with Hillary as president presiding over the REAL Democratic Party.

I will actively work against Obama from here on out! That is my promise.

  341. TMendez, Unlike Obama supporters, Hillary supporters are independent thinkers.

    True. Aren’t we!

I for instance am going to try to fight McCain, because while I vastly prefer Hillary, and especially her wonky goodness on climate legislation, and still hope and pray for a turnaround in August, and if not then its 2012 ! for me…

I seriously believe I must fight to keep the worse of the two remaining options from office in the meantime.

  342. I love Hillary. I will follow her anywhere. I will await her next move.

  343. On Hillary dot com, the splash page now asks you to sign up to support Obama.

I signed up, but in the comment I said “I am sorry Hillary, I cannot support Barack Obama.”

  344. I love Hillary, but I am so disappointed. We were told she was going to take this to the convention, and she should have. If you are going to stand for something, then stand for it damn it!

Hillary backed down for the sake of the party and now a precedent has been set. The next woman who “tries this” (running for President) will be treated even worse than Hillary was because THEY GOT AWAY WITH IT THIS TIME!!

I’m sorry, I am really angry. Any of you who are considering voting for obama must realize he is NOT the lesser of two evils. A vote for obama at this point is a vote to CONDONE what was done to Hillary, what was done in the caucuses, and what was done to the voters in Florida and Michigan. A vote for obama ratifies the actions of the corrupt DNC and the media. Is that what you really want?

  345. I watched Hillary’s speech. She was courageous and full of grace. Re-read the transcript twice, and got choked up. I would not vote for Obama, nor McCain. Any comment about supporting Cynthia McKinney, a potential Green Party presidential nominee? I started to find a way to use my vote meaningfully. Perhaps it is time to help another progessive party so the Democratic Party cannot take us for granted. Thanks for your thoughts.

  346. I WILL NEVER VOTE OBAMA!!!!! I AM A CLINTONISTA FOREVER!!!!NEVER AN OBAMABOT!!!!!!!

  347. I’m 45 with a law degree and Obama and his misogyny boys will never get my vote!!!!!!
