Saturday: Keep your head

Conflucians, the haka is getting very intense. There are senators we once respected going on news shows that some of us vowed not to watch for the next two weeks, who are saying insulting things that are designed to discourage us. Like Kennedy implying that Clinton doesn’t have noble American principles. This is just another version of “Our warriors are bigger, badder, meaner than yours” It’s all bluster because the real proof of their fortitude, getting a $%$#load more votes, hasn’t materialized.

Oh, and then there’s Chris Dodd telling Wolf Blitzer that the party will fall into line in November after we’ve all been dosed with Kool-Aid. Well, maybe party members might. But as of two days ago, I am no longer a member of the “Misogynists for Barry” party. So, their assumptions of automatic votes is incorrect. As an “unaffiliated”, they are going to have to bust their balls to get my vote now. They should take nothing for granted. And I would advise the party to not go pinning the blame or responsibility for this on Hillary. She’s been a mensch for the party and I’m sure she would do anything for it. But voters *are* born with free will and Democrats never were like Republicans who blindly follow their leaders. Some of us do not respond well to peer pressure. It means we are less popular than we might otherwise be but we are at peace with our consciences. No, I know what abuse feels like and I won’t take it from a party. They have to get right with me not the other way around. The Dean Democrats are on their own. Good luck to them.

Now, a lot of you are starting to feel helpless, like the forces against you are too strong. Well, that’s the whole point of a haka. But there are things you can do. Here are Riverdaughter’s suggestions for fighting back, reprinted from Thursday:

  1. If you live in a state that has already voted, re-register as an “unaffiliated” voter. Tear up your current voter’s registration card and mail it to the DNC with a little note to tell them that if they don’t resolve the FL and MI delegation issue immediately, they can not count on your vote now or in the future. Also, encourage them to push Hillary and Obama to form a joint ticket with Hillary on top as this is the only viable option for averting an electoral disaster in November. They created this rift in the party. It’s their responsibility to unify it. Not ours.
  2. Have a news moratorium for the next two weeks. For the next week, turn off every network and cable news program and catch up on your gardening. Watch only C-Span. If you have TiVo or a DVR, the cable and satellite companies do disk diagnostics every night to determine what you’ve watched and they pass this info onto the networks for ad sales purposes. You will make an impact if you abstain for the next week.
  3. Save your breakfast, lunch and dinner money and send it to Hillary. She can use the money to buy ads in the remaining states. The Big Boyz have been very effective in discouraging people from donating and volunteering for her. If you send in $10 and everyone reading this does the same, we can help refill her coffers. Also, one day of fasting will give you presence of mind and remind you of what is so important here. There are millions of Americans who are one paycheck away from insolvency, who have to use a food pantry every month to feed their families and these people are going to get written off by the “new coalition”.
  4. Volunteer for Hillary in West Virginia and Kentucky if you live in one of those states or one of the surrounding states. Hell, you don’t even need to do much. Just go there and stand at the side of the road with a sign. If you can’t be there, make phone calls for her. Let the country know that you aren’t going down without a fight.

I’m going to be in central PA again today for my brother’s 40th birthday party. Tomorrow, he is off to a training school in GA for five months and after that, he’ll be shipped off to Iraq or Afghanistan. This election is very important to me and I don’t want John McCain to be our next president. So, important that if I can do it, I may sneak over to WV on Sunday to hold up a sign at the side of the road. (This very much depends on time and logistics) I am very disturbed by reports that the Obama campaign or someone calling on its behalf are calling West Virginia voters to tell them the primary season is over and asking for donations for Barry’s campaign. But this is typical of Obama’s campaign. They have gotten as far as they have by suppressing Clinton voters in FL, MI, the caucuses and now WV and KY.

Obama is the weakest candidate that we could field this year and the Republicans are licking their chops that the Democrats are going to commit political suicide to appease snobby yuppies and AA voters who make up roughly 12% of the US population and whose strength as a voting block will be seriously diluted in November. If the Democratic party wants to play a stupid game of chicken with the women, working class, elderly, hispanic, gay voters and the REAL creative class voters that have been its loyal base, it had better be prepared to lose in November. Even with all of us onboard, Obama will lose. But maybe the party will learn something from this.

One final thing, Conflucians, there will be a lot of guilt tripping and meanness directed our way in the next couple of days. They are going to want to make us feel like traitors. Don’t give in. Now is the time to “choose something like a star to stay our minds on”. The counter haka only works if everyone sticks together. This is real unity.

It’s not over until the balloons drop in Denver.

  1. I”m with you all the way. Please e-mail and/or call your friends who are Hillary supporters. Ask them to make calls, donate $10, or whatever.

I also wrote to Emilys list this morning tp express my displeasure at some of the women they want me to send money for. One of them is Christine Gregoire of Washington, an Obama supporter. I’m not donating to any candidate who has come out for Obama. That means Claire McCaskill , of Missouri, is off the list. There are others. There are oithers. Please check into this if you are so inclined.

If they expect my support they have to give it in return.

Oh, and Howard Dean wrote another e-mail asking me for money to fight John McCain. I politely wrote back that I’m not sending $$$ to the Democratic party anymore, since I will be registering Independent as soon as my form arrives in the mail.

I’m ticked and there is a price to be paid by these turncoats. I will not go silently into the night.

Meanwhile, please call all your friends and ask them to donate $10 to Hillary, and if they can’t travel, to at least make calls for Hillary.

  2. On No Quarter this morning, he showed an excerpt of Karl Rove on FoxNews proving why Obama can’t win against McCain. He also has a link to a letter that a whole bunch (I can’t remember the exact number) of congressmen & women sent to the undecided Super Delegates telling them that Obama can’t win their states.
    There’s still hope.
Remember Bill Clinton’s 1992 campaign slogan: “I’ve always believed in a place called Hope.” He wasn’t talking about some abstract “hope” that Obama talks about. He was talking about his hometown in Arkansas and the people who made him what he is. These are the same kind of people that are being pushed out of “the Party” and told our votes don’t matter. Well, if Obama is the nominee, “the Party” is going to find out come November how much our votes matter
Hillary is our best hope for a Democrat in the White House next year.

  3. I have not given up yet. Nup. The more I hear it is over, the more I wonder why “everyone” is celebrating already Obama’s nomination. Isn’t that presumptuous?

Anyway….I found this article at Yahoo News that explains how feminists are divided over the Dem candidates…

Expect many more of this kind of articles in the coming weeks.

  4. ??????

    Creative class navel gazing?

    What do you mean?

  5. For me, anything Obama does is too little, too late. I won’t vote for Obama. I don’t care if McCain is the president.

My reason is Florida, and Michigan. The thought of the Democratic Party disenfranchising voters to help this unqualified messianic empty suit steal an election…it sickens me. After Bush v. Gore, no Democratic should countenance this.

Not this time, not again. Not from so-called Democrats. If I’m going to be in a party that uses GOP tactics I may as well be in the GOP…hell, even the RNC dealt with the Michigan-Florida issue much better than we did. It’s unconscionable.

I have several Republican friends, so I know all ‘Pugs are not evil. I don’t think John McCain is evil (I do think the Bush Administration is, for the record). I think stealing elections is evil, and I won’t be part of a party that condones it. Period, done, over and out.

Anniversary marked today. Watch and reflect on the pressures being exerted to stop the democratic process during this primary season.

I honor librarians in my blog post as well….

  7. I will continue to support Hillary now and in 2012 as an unaffiliated voter, but now I do not wish to see the Dem Party in control of all three braches, Kennedy, Pelosi, Obama, Clyburn and their shell game of a Primary has been repulsive lacking all integrity I do not trust them or that they will do the hard work required for good governance for this country. I regret deeply that the Party rigged the race for another Kennedy loser from his good ole boys network, stupid and a waste and bad for America,. I can live with McCain if I have to, that will depend however on his selection for Vice President, no wing nuts please oddly a McCain Clinton ticket would not bother me, that’s real change and change that would alter political landscape and strangle hold of people like Teddy Kennedy and rancid Party bosses have on our country and our treasury.

  8. Salty: There are some worthy down ticket dems that will get my help this year. Chin up. It’s not the end of the world.

  9. Does accepting an invitation to a private McCain fundraiser count as a counter haka? I am not giving to the old SOB nor would I ever vote for him, but I thought it might be pleasant to be around political types who do not call me obscene names. My proud to be a hick host said he is reaching out to all of the dispossessed hillbillies and white trash since the Dems no longer want us. He said shoes are optional. Asshole.

  10. Obama cannot be on the ticket.

He sucks as an attack dog. Remember Edwards? I’m glad Clinton is open to the idea, but it’s a bad idea. The VRWC will tie every damn thing they are going to do if he’s the nominee to them both if he’s on the ticket, and he can’t attack boldly well(knife strikes in the back are completely different).

  11. Riverdaughter, great idea….in addition to sending the DNC your torn up registration card, I would also photocopy the new registration to show them that you really did change your party affiliation. That’s what I’m going to do.

  12. salty, just last night my Republican bf said McCain-Clinton would be a landslide. I asked him if he thought Repugs would vote for Hillary and he said, “Absolutely. What you have to know about Republicans is: We don’t like Hillary. But we respect her.”

  13. Maria Garcia,

That’s what I’m going to to–send them a copy of my new registration. We don’t have voter cards here. I’ve never had oen or seen one. I’m going to go down to the Town Hall on Tuesday, as soon as I finish with my end-of-semester work load.

  14. Riverdaughter, Thanks for that Robert Frost poem. Amazingly, I’ve never read it before. I found it calming. You’re right the haka is very strong. I haven’t turned the TV on, but I “accidentally” read some articles in the NYT and WP yesterday that got me really angry. I’m glad WV is coming soon, and Hillary is going to win big.

  15. I found this on the ABC blog:

I think this election has proven that the press deserves no freedom.

I think Obama would be back at the starting gate if he were not Black!

The story of Obama is that of someone whose motives, according to his autobiography, are questionable…but he knows how to work a crowd and please the press .
Like his cousin Raila Odinga who ran for office in Kenya under the slogan “Your agent for change”, and like George Bush who also chanted for “Change”, Obama echoes the cheer.

But the change which seems eminent…. at least until the G E in November… will bring us back to the late 50’s!

And the Clintons, who have been staunch supporters of all races…
are being treated like lepers by the press and by B O’s followers because they’re acknowledging this truism!
Ninety two percent of the black vote in North Carolina was for Obama.

Ninety one percent of the black vote in Philadelphia voted for Obama.

True some of these people and some whites really thought about who they were voting for when they (mis)voted B U T you cannot honestly say that this isn’t exploittion of race and thus, r a c i s m!

The prestige of an honest news story…. remember them???…. disappeared early on. And the joke of Obama being swallowed by eight American flags on a podium defending his beligerant pastor lingers. His free publicity was granted again when he finally flung his beligerant pastor “under the bus”. We know little of his policies but lots about r his magnificent race speech and his talks of his young impoverished life… all free publicity!

Little was mentioned of his lack of accomplishment…. of his earmarking money for Michelle’s employer…. of taking money from Rezko supposedly intended for heating this landlord’s broken down tenements and freezing tenants.

Meanwhile, Accomplishments of Hillary have swept under the carpet; All ears and eyes were directed towards the blue dress and Hillary’s initial failed attempt at procuring universal health care..

During the last debate through which Obama stumbled and stuttered, Clinton answered a question about what to do about Iran. (Obama was still trying to get thoughts to reach his tongue).
She suggested the “Umbrella of Deterrence”… not a unique idea…. but an IDEA which might have become a stepping stone to other ideas (Although I think that it’s a great idea which, used with caution and punity might prove quie wothy in its own right.

The press colored Hillary’s spur of the moment response as something very suspect. Obama’s posters went wild in their disdain… disremembering that Obama was still thinking of an answer!

The DNC is broken! They have effectively disenfranchised two statesfull of voters from being able to select their nominee.

The DNC considers itself G-D to the Constitution.

    My point is this:

Obama is a new face. He hasn’t accomplished much….so aside from his quesitonable associates there’s not too much to fault him for.

He presents a neat presence, speaks well in front of a teleprompter… though I have seen his querilous side peeking through several times.

The press decided early on that they favored him…. and skewed their news stories his way on too many occasions.

There have been instances in which a story issued incorrect information… but corrections either required a password and a mouse-over…. or were omitted!

I think this election has proven that the press deserves no freedom.

  16. Today, Saturday May 10th, thousands of Barack Obama supporters are registering new voters in all 50 States. 70 have signed up in Orlando, Florida, 21 in Pueblo, Colorado, 29 in Nashua New Hampshire, 59 volunteers have signed up in Albuquerque New Mexico.

Here in Oakland, 149 of us are working out of Hayward, just south of Oakland. We are making our home base somewhere where we will maximize our impact in bringing new voters into the folds.

Obama had this effort planned before the results of NC and IN were known. There are activists registering voters in ALL 50 states for Obama…right now.

And, over 60% of voters Obama’s volunteers have registered in 2008 have gone to the polls and voted.

That’s the message we are sending to all our fellow Democrats and the DNC. We are serious about winning elections.

Nothing says that more powerfully than registering new people to vote. That helps all of us.

  17. Keep banging those pans, Kid Oakland.

  18. I love that KO’s “vote for change” link doesn’t work. Symbolic, no?

  19. Davidson: “Symbolic, no?” That’s because junior’s petulant drools don’t work, either. Oh my, the kid has so much to learn. Too bad it has to be the hard way.

  20. Davidson,

    Thanks for the heads up.

    http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/vfchome

    Is the link.

    Katiebird,

I’m not banging pans, I’m registering folks to vote. Just like thousands of other volunteers for Obama. We’ve been doing this for months now, and it’s been successful in state after state.

If this blog wants people to leave the Democratic Party, that’s your choice. I think that’s a bad idea.

  21. Kid, if you were actually out registering voters, then that would be one thing. But, your comments here sound a lot more like haka than party building.

  22. katiebird, just what I was thinking..
It looks like gloating more than anything else. =.=” Even more so if you look at what’s this thread’s topic.

  23. coldH2Owi — With all due respect, if you make one more comment like that one you’ll be going in the spam filter. That comment was completely out of line. And I wouldn’t mind at all if riverdaughter deletes it.

  24. I left Talkleft this morning because after dealing with the hate at DailyKOS, whenever I see Kid Oakland’s or TINS or Bob Johnson’s or PHHHT Keith Olbermann’s name, I get so pissed I can’t stand it.

Where can I go to get away from KO?

And I’m with you all. We don’t register affiliation in our state, but I’m not voting for Obama.

And to forestall the but, but, but, the Supreme Court — I’ll say, gee if women’s rights was the largest issue of our time, shouldn’t you have voted for the woman who is clear on the issue, rather than the man who is a wishy-washy fool?

  25. I just went into your spam filter again.

  26. felvenall, KidOakland likes to spend a couple hours banging his pans here usually on Saturday. I don’t know if he’s just avoiding errands or what. He can’t think he’s making friends.

Because actually just the opposite has happened.

  27. Teresa, I don’t see anything there?

  28. Thanks, riverdaughter! I’ve now become affiliated with the “decline to state” party (after almost 40 years of being a loyal party member) and notified the DNC; have turned off the TV (except for Lou Dobbs!); and sent Hillary my lunch money for the week (yikes, I just realized I’m 1/2 way to the $2300 limit).

For any of your readers out here in California, Nancy Pelosi is up for reelection this year. Shirley Golub is running against Pelosi in the June 3 primary ballot; I plan to vote for her. I hope everyone who can, will, and all out-of-state’rs will donate to Shirley’s campaign. Pelosi has to go.

  29. Just doing some blogwh*oring here. Bringiton does the math and shows why Hillary is the inevitable candidate. But I thought you call might like some weapons grade snark:

Concede he must, for the good of the Party; persistent divisiveness would be unbecoming and disloyal. He is a young man, and surely will at some point take up his role as a United States Senator in a meaningful way. Perhaps he could, just to see what it’s like, hold oversight hearings, or write meaningful legislation; maybe he could ease into the job by showing up for votes (currently third highest missed-votes rate at 40.1%, right behind Sen. Tim Johnson who is still recovering from his stroke.) He might also author another autobiographical meditation; a lessons-learned reflection, “The Mendacity of Trope” or a campaign journal – “Me, Michelle and I.” With on-the-job effort and some improvement in his debating skills he may even be able to successfully win over the voters in 2016. His followers this time around should not despair; although such aspirations may now smack of audacity, there is always Hope.

    Oh, snap

  30. (waving) Hi Lambert! I think I saw you over at TalkLeft (but I’m mostly lurking there)

Thanks for this link, it sounds like the sort of math I like.

  31. I’m getting ready to leave for the greater part of the day. But I wanted to share the letter I just wrote to my representative – jan schakowsy:

    2008 elections

It is with great disappointment that I continue to hear the Democrats of Illinois (you), and other important Democrats support so strongly, the candidacy of Senator Obama. He is truly one of the weakest people who submitted her/his name to the DNC to run for President.
He has resorted to lies and implications and hints in order to bolster his experience. He has also used race in his campaign both positively – to draw minorities, as well as negatively – to divide people. He and his campaign – including his wife – have denegrated those of us who have not and do not support him. Gender has also been used and I for one am infinitely tired of being disrespectedd and now disenfranchised because of my gender.
AND BY MY OWN PARTY !!
I will not be voiting for Barack Obama in the fall if he is the nominee.
I will encourage as many as I can to either write in Hillary Clinton (by the way, not my first choice. I have supported John Edwards since 2003), to vote Green, or to bypass the president altogether.
Sadly, you have been an active participant in selling the Democrats down the river. I would have expected more from you.

  32. Kid Oakland,

Congratulations on your voter registration effort. I hope your program to to “sign up new voters for Obama” goes well for you.

Are these people registering as members of the Democratic Party or the Obama Party? Not that it matters to me, I don’t belong to a party anymore. It sounds like you are getting lots of new voters who will replace people like me who are too old, too female, too poor, and too liberal to fit into the “new coalition” that Donna Brazile and Barack Obama keep talking about.

Now that I have accepted that I’m not wanted in the Democratic Party–I’m part of that “old coalition,” the party of FDR, JFK, LBJ, you know–those old fashioned Democrats who supported social security, health care, and wanted to eliminate poverty–so old fashioned and issue-oriented. Until you Obamacans put me onto an ice floe, I’ll just keep on keepin’ on and be true to my old-fashioned ideals–free of ties to any political party.

  33. Hi All: I was just thinking…. maybe the “new” Democrats (you know, the ones the Obamacrats don’t want, or would be happy to push off a cliff) should be called the Grand Old Democrats, or for short, The G.O.D.

Has a certain authoritarian ring to it… eh?

  34. Katiebird,

I just read a very abusive post from ColdH20 that is in the spam filter. I don’t think it should be approved, so I left it there. This person is clearly a troll and shouldn’t be allowed to continue posting here unless he/she can modify his/her behavior radically and immediately.

  35. BB, I agree. I left it there so riverdaughter can see what s/he’s up to. And I issued a warning based on the messages that have made it through.

I don’t like to delete messages but, we’re not here as haka platform and I think we should delete anything that crosses the line.

And we sure don’t have to release abusive stuff that gets caught in the trap!

  36. bostonboomer

You are welcome and needed in the Democratic Party.

    So is everyone here.

The voters that Barack Obama registered in Chicago in 1992 helped turn Illinois blue and elect Bill Clinton and Carol Mosely-Braun. The vast majority of those Illinois voters are still voting Democratic to this day.

That impacts our ability to pass health care, end this war, become energy independent and improve our schools.

The voters that Obama volunteers register today will have the same impact here in California, where Arnold has tried, and failed, to pass some very noxious initiatives and blocked progressive bills that would impact working people’s lives. We will need every last Democratic voter in CA to retake the Governor’s mansion and win an “obstruction proof” majority in the legislature.

When we do that, that will impact every last Californian, not just Barack Obama’s chances in November.

  37. Mark! I like it. :)

  38. leslie (waving at you from a few miles north): Jan was my rep for years–you’re so lucky to have her. Now I have Melissa Bean (ugh, but waaaay better than Phil Crane previously), who at least didn’t send me an email asking me to support Obama, as Durbin did. Good for you for your letter. When I read that Jan was organizing buses to take local voters to Iowa to work for Obama I was truly disgusted, but she’s still a great progressive. I, too, voted for Edwards on Feb. 5, but I voted all Hillary’s slate for delegates since Edwards didn’t have a slate and Hillary was always my close second.

  39. Kid Oakland,

You just don’t get it. I’m sticking with my “old Democratic” values. You obviously didn’t even read my comment. I don’t want to be in the new Obamatized Democratic party.

You really don’t have any idea how conscending you sound, do you? I was a Democrat before you were born. I’m not going to modify my beliefs to fit in with this new nonideological party you are promoting. I won’t vote for a candidate with no experience, with no recognizable political ideology, no core beliefs. I won’t vote for someone whose advisors are pushing the destruction of social security and want to prevent universal health care.

I’m still a Democrat, in the mold of FDR, JFK, LBJ, RFK. I won’t be a part of the new corportist party Obama is pushing. They’ve taken the name of my party, so I had to switch to “Independent.” But my Democratic beliefs are still the same. I won’t ever give them up. This new corporatist, misogynist Obama Party will never get another cent from me or another lick of work. Not only will I never vote for Obama, but I will never again vote for anyone who has endorsed him.

Again, good luck winning without me and millions like me. You seem confident of success, so I’m sure I won’t be missed.

  40. Mark: heh.

but, but, but…. I am an atheist. I cannot vote for GOD

  41. “You are welcome and needed in the Democratic Party.”

As if you were the one to do the welcoming. You must have have a very high opinion of yourself if you believe it’s up to you to welcome other *Democrats* into the Democratic party.

Back to the main point. It would be crazy for Hillary supporters to give up on this race so near the finish line. You don’t run a marathon then drop out half a mile before the end because your opponent is five yards ahead. I’m amazed that Obama’s haka has worked so well – the Kool-Aid must be potent stuff if it is even affecting his opponents, some of whom also believe he has one. He hasn’t.

Interesting that the Democratic leadership aren’t coming out and saying he is talking nonsense, but then we always knew whose side they were on.

  42. coldH20wi: Explain the abuse? You’ve got people on this blog who are publicly stating that they are voting for McLiar

While you’re here, how do you think the Democrats are going to argue about how bad McCain is, when chief Obama supporters Kerry and Daschle begged McCain to run on the Democratic ticket with Kerry?

  43. “believe he has won”

  44. KO: please don’t patronize us. We’re not buying it. We’re not stupid. Be afraid. Be her afraid

BB: I’m driving to PA right now typing on my iPhone. I can’t coldH2o right this minute but feel free to delete.

  45. coldwater,

Why don’t you “get your sorry ass out on streets of Oakland, CA?” Just who do you think you are? We come to this blog to get away from trolls like you. Run along to one of the Obama blogs where you’ll feel more comfortable. You’re not winning any votes for Obama here.

  46. O, you Kid! We are all proud Post-Partisans now, don’t you know?

I intend to compensate for a lifetime of erroneous partisan activity by supporting McCain this fall. I know, he’s a horrible man who will do horrible things that will have horrible consequences for billions of innocents … but after McCain, the progressive movements have future. After Obama, they have none (not in America, not in my lifetime, anyway).

When I was very much younger, I had the kind of friends who might invite you to a Party and end up puking on your shoes. Maybe they grew up, or maybe I grew up … either way, I don’t let that happen any more.

  47. They try to register new voters even as they suppress the current voters.

I am staying in the Democratic Party. Now is not the time for me to abandon it. But I don’t believe in “my Party right or wrong”. If a candidate’s campaign is actively working to supress the vote, then I can’t support them, even if it is for the Executive. That is why I cannot support Senator Obama.

  48. I would never call you traitors.

Ah, but you just did in that passive-aggressive way that Obama has perfected in his own rhetoric..

  49. I saw what Kennedy said on teevee somewhere..read it, I should say. Disgraceful.

Clinton should force them to all get on the record with whom they support so if it is not her, they all own what happens in November and possibley 4 years after if Obam agets in. No hiding under the couch now!

  50. You are welcome and needed in the Democratic Party.

To be perfectly frank, with Obama’s Harry and Louise ads, using GOP talking points on Social Security, praise of Reagan and suggestions he’d put a number of Republicans in the cabinet, floating anti-choice Bob Casey as a possible VP pick.. No, I would not be welcome or needed in Obama’s Democratic Party. I have no confidence at all that he would stand up for Democratic values (or what I thought they were..) as POTUS.

  51. kid oakland – I saw you on talkleft repeatedly dismissing all the sexist filth that has been spewed at Clinton both in the corporate media and in the blogs.
Did you ever appologize for that?

  52. no, dont answer – I have to go and cant particpate here.

  53. Exactly, Five Thirty. “Every voice must be heard…except the 2 or 3 million or so voices of Florida and Michigan…”

    And Kid Oakland?

“You are welcome and needed in the Democratic Party.”

Needed, yes. Welcomed, no. Too bad you Obamadroids realized too late that you need us.

One other thing: “impact” is not a verb. Yeah, a nitpick but crappy corporate-style writing really chaps me and only adds to the irritation level of reading Obamanoid cliches’.

  54. With you all the way, baby. my partner and I each gave a donation day before yesterday. I don’t know how anyone who cares about their own mental state could watch cable news.

I read Chris Bowers and my head explodes. They actually think “they got the black guy nominated!”—this is how they think? They’ve got a Hillary hating media, their own Obama Network, a string of half-bogus caucus wins, 2 of Hillary’s wins not being counted, and a Democratic establishment that is jealous of the Clintons propping them up. They’ve got most of Hillary’s supporters so offended that they wouldn’t cross the street to vote for them. People like me, who will never vote for Obama, no matter what. THIS SPELLS A BIG FAT LOSS IN NOVEMBER. (I know you know, sorry).

We adults need to take control of the party, or McCain wins by a landslide. Sure, I’d love to rub their faces in the huge loss that their arrogance, sexism, and anti-Democratic attitude is certain to bring them—but I’d far rather put Hillary in the White House to save the damn economy.

  55. Guess what KO, you don’t get to give me permission to be a part of the “party.” I get to choose for myself. Quite frankly, you are typical of the Obama followers who don’t get “it.” These are not flesh wounds that have been inflicted. The wounds we have are deep and won’t be healed anytime soon. Good luck in nov– no– good luck in life.

  56. KO: By the way, you may want to tell your candidate that there are only 50 states not 57.

  57. KO I will grant that the “kos libertarians” did a good job on setting up their checkmate. Republicans always were excellent at strategic sleaze. It’s the lack of basic decency that gives them an edge. They should be very proud of you. Now they’ll have two varieties of conservative – would you like church or keggers with your tax break?

But any one of us could get what we want (at least once) by betraying those who trust us. Most of us don’t for a reason, and it’s not cuz we’re stupid or cuz we’re suckers.

  58. Mark: Grand Old Democrats, or for short, The G.O.D.

    BAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

  59. Kid Oakland, you’re wasting your time here. We’ve been hearing this entire cycle how many new voters Obama is supposedly registering. Sure didn’t help him in Pennsylvania. Didn’t help him in Ohio. Didn’t help him in Texas. I could go on and on, but surely even you can get the point? Registering is not the same as drinking the kool aid. It really won’t matter how many more students and latte drinkers you register for one glaring reason: there are simply more women, working class, latinos, gays & lesbians, and asians that won’t vote for your empty suit.

Another point: those of us who have been around awhile know that it’s not only in bad taste to gloat before you’ve won. It’s also dangerous. Check out the New England Patriots for a recent example. These arrogant hakas are losing your guy votes by the minute.

  60. I’m making calls now. Please help everyone. Go tHillaryclinton.com and get started. Very easy. I’ve got lots of free cell minutes and it is worth every one of them.

  61. coldwater – take them to Canada.

  62. It’s very hard not to offend someone who is looking to take offense. There’s no haka from me here. I read this blog whether I comment or not. If I don’t comment, y’all are vitriolic. If I do comment, y’all are vitriolic.

I don’t think that’s’ being patronizing. There’s a lot of angry Clinton supporters out there.

What gets me is that so many of you write as if I don’t know that from real life. I mean, in Union City today, I had Hillary supporters yell at me outside Borders Books while I was doing voter registration just because I was wearing an Obama button. The anger is real. When I was calling PA I had Clinton supporters hang up on me, or tell me to “shove it.”

I’m used to that in the general, less so in a Democratic primary.

Regardless, I take how voters react to me more seriously and, yeah, something’s askew here in this thread.

I mean, young judith is just not factual. I condemn and downrate sexist remarks about HRC. I work my ass off to help women candidates and recruit women leaders. (Sheesh, I did the Chicago Voices program for god’s sakes, I’m a not the “bloggerboyz” Devil I am being made out to be.)

I didn’t come here to “haka” I came here to talk about registering voters so that we can pass legislation that will impact people’s lives. It’s something we should be able to agree on.

Today I approached a group of Latina women outside Outback Steakhouse who didn’t want to talk to me because they were Hillary supporters. One of their daughters had not registered to vote however. She approached me to do so.

One young Latina, Democratic voter registered today in Union City and regardless how she votes in the fall, the pride I saw in her face left a lasting impression. This is her country. Her voice is now a part of our political process. No more or less equal than my own.

That’s what this election is about.

  63. I’ve decided to begin more in depth research on Dick Morris. Since I’ve had to begin watching Fox News for truthful information on Obama I’ve gotten to know and loathe Dick Morris (he bashes Hillary big time). So I wanted to know more about him. And in wandering from link to link I found the following link: http://www.gerrycharlottephelps.com/2008/01/kenyas-odinga-m.html#comment-111924690
Can the information in this link and its comments all be just an innocent coincidence and why hasn’t the media at least asked Obama about these relationships and details? Could this be part of an “October” surprises? Interesting too that Fox News conveniently has Dick Morris on their payroll. And it doesn’t seem he’s a very loyal type (given his past relationship with Bill Clinton).

  64. ko: I condemn and downrate sexist remarks about HRC. I work my ass off to help women candidates and recruit women leaders.

Let me point out the obvious. When you run up to HRC supporters wearing your Obama button you are branding yourself as a member of a club — the one with Ted Kennedy and Steve Cohen as principle members.

You think it’s a cool and noble brand. Others don’t.

You hang around with people who scream and shout that HRC needs to drop out now … despite your hero TK taking it to the convention about 600 delegates behind.

You’re in a club with the freakin’ mayor of Gary, IN, for crying out loud.

If you *really* gave a damn about what is spewing forth from Team Obama, you’d take a walk as a matter of principle.

Personally, I’d yield on Hillary if the Democrats put up Gore or Edwards. That’s how poisonous Team Obama is.

  65. I comment very little on blogs. However, I read much.

This blog, RD, and you determined HRC supporters are fantastic. I, my wife, and our family all share your views and unwavering loyalty.

I sent this e-mail along with another $100 donation to HRC Tuesday night before Indiana final results came in:

    Sen. Clinton,

Do not quit. Stay Strong! You are the only true choice for this country.

Tonight on CNN, in an exchange with Paul Begalla, Donna Brazile said the “new” Democratic Party no longer needs blue-collar voters or old line Democrats. I am an “old-line” Democrat.

As of tonight, I shall henceforth be an independent Hillary Clinton supporter!

I am through with the Democratic party. Whether the Braziles, etc. know it or not, for the past 46 years the Democratic party has needed me far more than I needed it.

Maybe we “old folks” and working folks need a new party. I am disgusted, and now detest the Democratic party of Howard Dean, Brazile, Shrum, Axelrod, Kerry, Kennedy, MoveOn, etc. They are all losers trying to defeat the only proven winners the Democratic party have!

The only winners we have are the Clintons. If necessary, I would fully support an independent run for Sen. Clinton.

Sen. Clinton, just as President Clinton did, would govern for all Americans, which is what I desire in a President.

I will not vote for Obama under any circumstances; and should he be “coronated”, I will do everything I can to defeat him.

He is the wrong choice for Democrats, and the wrong choice for this country. He and his backers would be every bit as bad as Bush and his; merely replacing the extreme far-right with the extreme far-left.

The only extremism I embrace is an extreme desire to end sexism now and forever; and to finally give a woman a chance to prove that a woman’s perspective regarding governance of this country is the answer to the problems that men have created for centuries.

  66. I wrote letters to the DNC, Dean, CNN and Lou Dobbs about Donna Brazile and her ridiculous performance as a member of the DNC and a democrat. We should all protest as much as we can on her horrible representation of our party. Shame on her.

  67. Hey, KO,

Don’t be too offended when Clinton supporters hang up on your Obama calls. I get the same thing from Obama supporters when I call for Clinton. You gotta toughen y’all.

  68. elixir

I’m absolutely not offended at all. It’s par for the course doing phonebanking.

It looks like Vote For Change had some widespread success around the country. Most importantly for me, it was great to see over 100 volunteers here in Hayward learn how to register people to vote.

That’s a skill that pays off going forward. And, yeah, you can’t let people’s responses get you down.

It’s hard enough finding someone who is unregistered and eligible to sweat the small stuff.

  69. “I came here to talk about registering voters so that we can pass legislation that will impact people’s lives. It’s something we should be able to agree on.”

Wow. I wish some of that concern for people’s lives could spill onto issues that concern people’s LIVES. Y’know, in issues like universal healthcare and stuff.

Or some of it on women’s rights, because women are people too. At least that’s what Democratic Party ver 1.0 believed in. Of course, things may have changed since I left it.

And you know what, registering voters is a noble thought – what is even more important is NOT disenfranchising the people who are ALREADY REGISTERED to vote, and who DID vote. The b***s of Obama running a ‘voter registration drive in Florida’. Serious audacity, indeed. And high hopes.

Kid Oakland, no, we will not ‘agree on’ this, or on anything else. Even a corrupt politician from the Philippines (Ferdinand Marcos) knows this: We cannot and we will not negotiate with terrorists. We have nothing but contempt for them. To conciliate differences with these people without them changing their objectives is to condemn ourselves to death.

  70. KO: The reason PA voters probably didn’t want to talk with you on the phone is because a.) they knew that Obama was unready after seeing him in debate and 2.) they were very wary of outsiders. I was calling from Harrisburg, right across the river from where my mom lives and I had to verify my own credientials. I had to say where I was calling from, what neighborhood I was from, where I went to High School. I mean, I almost needed a Made in PA tattoo on my ass, they were that wary. I’m sure they didn’t appreciate your CA accent not your clueless candidate. They know quality. That’s why they chose Hillary. And you know what? I didn’t have to say one negative word about Obama. Even Obama supporters were more than happy to listen to me talk about Hillary and I know I persuaded several people to switch. Looks like your side had less luck there.
As for sexism, if you support Obama, you do indirectly support the rampant sexism that has been used against Hillary. You are complicit because your candidate has been riding the wave of sexism on his behalf and said not one word in her defense, nor of ANY woman’s defense, because the damage isn’t limited to Hillary. And there HAS been damage. So, if you do not acknowledge this, then you are ok with it. It helps your candidate win. You will just minimize its impact because you do not want to admit there may be anything actually damaging about it. To admit it would make you feel bad. Therefore, if YOU are not behaving in a sexist manner, Obama must not be either. This is the very definition of cognitive dissonance.
People register to vote for many reasons. Frankly, I am heartened by the derision you are meeting in public as you continue the jihad to convert the Hillary heretics or try to vote them into oblivion. You cannot win this fall. That Latina was registering so she can write Hillary’s name in this fall.
If you don’t want to see a President McCain, you still have a choice. Drop the hostile action towards Hillary and get rid of your prejudices against her. She is your only hope for this fall.

  71. One young Latina, Democratic voter registered today in Union City and regardless how she votes in the fall, the pride I saw in her face left a lasting impression. This is her country. Her voice is now a part of our political process. No more or less equal than my own.
That’s what this election is about.

That’s lovely, but it is emphatically not what this election is about. This election is about whether or not the levers of power can be wrested away from movement conservatives sufficiently and in enough time to avert disaster, or at least to hit the lifeboats in an orderly fashion – we may have already hit the iceberg, you know. As far as I am concerned, Obama simply does not inspire confidence that he can handle the job. That in and of itself would make for Hobson’s choice in November. Meanwhile, Obama and his campaign and many of his supporters have ticked us off enough that a lot of us are de-registering as Democrats and/or considering the nuclear option – voting for (or at least not against) McCain. It’s not about process. It’s about results, and thus far, these are them. Voter registration, while salutary, isn’t going to fix it. I’m not sure what would.
