*****Spoiler Alert*****
I know we mostly talk about politics around here, but If you are a woman I really hope you are watching this season’s installment of Survivor. Tonight was by far the best. tribal. council. EVER.
For those of you not watching this season, there were 5 contestants left, 4 very smart women, and one very foolish man. First he tried to sweet talk each of them, promising to ally himself with each. Of course they all told each other and he quickly was shamed into begging for their forgiveness. So he is obviously the target for eviction from the island. Luckily, Eric won the immunity challenge, saving himself from the chopping block. So what do the women do? Do they acquiesce that one of them will have to leave… or do they put their heads together and figure out a way to make him do the very last thing it would be in his interest to do, give up his immunity to one of them.
Now if you watch the show, you know that even considering such a move would not even warrant a raised eyebrow from the other players. It would just be impossible to convince another human being to do such a thing. But these four women figured it out. In the end it was basically a version of good cop/bad cop. The first two of the women, Parvati and Amanda, berated him about how horrible he was and how badly he had hurt their feelings. They were the bad cops. The other two players, Cirie and Natalie, promised him redemption if he proved his loyalty to one of them to save the one who was to be voted off, Natalie. Having proved his loyalty, they would in turn vote off Parvati.
Now just suggesting this plan is pretty gutsy. Pretending that it might actually work is just downright crazy. But…he fell for it. The reactions of the women as they realized that their plan had worked were priceless.
I checked, but the video is not up anywhere yet. I’m sure it will be up by morning. If you want to see girl-power in action, make sure to check it out.
It also is a pretty good metaphor for our candidate. Never count a woman out. EVER.
Update: Video! This isn’t the actual council, but a preview of the show…..

Oh my God! That was the first episode of Survivor that we’ve EVER missed. I can’t believe it.
Obama has me that upset. I totally forgot.
oh no katie, I hope I didn’t spoil it for you. I thought afterward that some people not on the east coast might not have seen it yet. maybe I should put *spoiler alert* at the top…. : )
Yes it was awesome. I personally don’t like Natalie that much, but it was so very strategic of the other women to do this. They all worked together when it would have been just as easy to have voted out the weakest female link (Natalie.) They played him like a fiddle; the poor guy didn’t have a chance.
Thanks Gary.
I mentioned this in the “party’s over” thread. Superbly played by the ladies. Fan-freakin-tastic!
I love women!
Hi Gary — You didn’t spoil it. I totally missed it. So I’m glad to know what happened. Did you know you can edit posts by the Manage Tab and clicking on the title? If you want to put a spoiler warning.
I hope you’re feeling better. Post-election let-down can be rough.
there…that’s better. Katie, hope you tivo’d it, if not you have to find it somewhere on line and watch the tribal council. It was really cool…
thanks Gary! I totally spaced it out. I was out of town until Tuesday so I have my days all mixed up.
Survivor and Amazing Race are really the only tv shows I watch, and it’s disturbing how often I forget.
interesting and cool how the women are working it.
Am I the only one who felt sorry for that poor kid? How could he be so naive? This has been a great Survivor. I hope Sunday night isn’t a let down.
Wow, I gave up on Survivor a few seasons back — thanks so much for the heads up! What a delicious moment, all those big smiles and that AA woman at the end talking about using her brains. Freakin’ beauty.
