Help me Obama-Wan Kenobi, you’re my only hope!
The reason Riverdaughter invited me to start posting here was to give you guys an idea of what is happening in North Carolina leading up to the primary. I posted the video above because until about a week ago it had been sitting at the top of the Raleigh News and Observer’s website for about a month. Personally I don’t think Blackwell is all that funny, but I guess that is rather subjective. He tends to lean to the conservative side, and we all know that they don’t do “teh funny” all that well (in full disclosure he has done unflattering cartoons of Hillary as well). Having said that, I think it is a good indication of what the media is pushing in NC.
Meanwhile, the N&O has taken notice of the “male media types dissing Clinton”:
Comments by male pundits and political analysts about Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton have so often crossed the line that, by now, even a seemingly innocent metaphor can get a guy in trouble.
Consider a recent incident in which MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann, host of “Countdown,” was talking to a guest about the likelihood of Clinton being persuaded by a Democratic Party official to drop out of the presidential race.
Olbermann said it would take “somebody who can take her into a room and only he comes out.”
Oops. Huffington Post blogger Rachel Sklar took Olbermann into “a room” for that comment.
Seemingly innocent? didn’t seem that innocent to me. But what do I know, I’m not a woman like the author of this art… wait, Danny Hooley, oh well it could be a woman’s name I guess. Anyway, Pat Hawkins, leader of the Democratic Women of Wake County will come to Hillary’s defense, right? Well maybe not so much:
Pat Hawkins, leader of Democratic Women of Wake County, says not all topics of discussion are necessarily sexist on the surface — discussion of Clinton’s voice, for example.
“I can understand that,” she says. “I was just listening to her, and she had a quality to her voice that isn’t pleasing, especially when she gets going. I can see where they would pick that up.
Furthermore, we can forget all about this anyway because the media is now on Clinton’s side,
In Clinton’s case, she’s gotten a bit of a break from the media recently, thanks to bad press for rival Barack Obama and her win in Pennsylvania.
Conservative commentators have mostly laid off the gender talk now that they’re rooting (wink-wink) for Clinton over Obama and praising her as a “fighter” worthy of a seat at the boys’ club.
Um, I don’t think it was conservative commentators that were necessarily the ones that were dissing Clinton (any more than usual) in the first place. Maybe our more liberal commentators like KO didn’t get the memo.
Finally I think there was one line in the article that about sums it all up:
…But it’s a perceived media problem…
OK, I get it now. They’re all not really sexist, its just my perception that is out of whack. Thanks for setting me straight N&O! Feel free to contact the N&O or Pat Hawkins and let them know what you think.
UPDATE: Almost forgot to mention, this article is posted int the Lifestyles section. I guess the Politcs section was full…..

Not sure if I’m repeating some great news, but, I just needed an opportunity to post that the Indy Star has endorsed HRC.

Another article from the media defending the media. It’s our problem they’re a bunch of easily led, easily deceived hacks. Believe them, not your lying eyes.
Jeez.
Lord, what a cartoon! It is amazing the level and the scope of mockery. This isn’t political humour, this is mockery. There is a difference. I put a JibJab cartoon up on my blog. It’s got Obama and his boyz doing the Yes We Can Can Can.

OMG! Someone found a horrible instance of Mickey Kantor being highly anti-Inidiannan — back in ‘92, in the doc film “War Room,” and got the YouTube to Atrios who frontpaged it at 11:18AM.
Is this important? It wasn’t commented on at the time, and Mickey Kantor became Secty of Commerce, which, A-Man says, should not have happened if someone said the words Kantor said.
Please go watch and tell me I’m overreacting.
I’m really upset that Duncan posted this — if it were really important, yes. But this is a long-forgotten off-the-cuff slur uttered in the heat of battle and not meant for the public. The doc caught it — the doc was in theaters — and no one commented at the time.
Now, to hurt Clinton, Duncan posts it. It can’t be to make sure Kantor isn’t confirmed for Secty of Commerce….
“UPDATE: Almost forgot to mention, this article is posted int the Lifestyles section. I guess the Politcs section was full….. ”
Ah, yes, The woman’s touch.
Jawbone,
Although this is shocking and the posting of it is also shocking, I’m not surprised. We’re in the fourth quarter and people are going to pull out all the stops to beat Hillary into submission. This is just the beginning, gird your loins.
We wimmins are always perceiving things, because we just have no sense of humor about being patronized or threatened.
gary, on the off chance you haven’t seen them, I highly recommend Shakespeare’s Sister’s 87-post series called the Hillary Clinton Sexism Watch. It’s an eye-opener.
“Seemingly innocent”?
Yuh. It’s all in our heads.
merciless,
I have seen them. Sadly, this could be 88
Charles Lemos,
I put the cartoon because it is an example of the media coverage of the campaign here in NC. Like I said, I personally don’t find it that funny, and some of the issues brought up (past drug use, etc) in my opinion are not relevant. Blackwell is a conservative and you can bet this type of “humor” will be all over the place should Obama get the nomination .
UPDATE from ATRIOS:
More Kantor
Okay, I think I’ve figured this out. The YouTube clip is crap. I was going to ignore it until Drudge posted it, but stupid me anyway.
I’m not going to try for a complete transcript, but basically Kantor gets polls from Indiana. They’re close. He says even if they don’t win the White House has got to be shitting themselves. Then what I think he says is something along the lines of “how would you like to be beaten by a worthless white n*****,” presumably meaning Bill Clinton himself and referencing the Bush I campaign team’s likely view of Clinton.
-Atrios 12:01
My bolding. Atrios apparently got taken by, of all sites, Drudge. His explanation is apparently the actual original dialogue — as opposed to the sound on the YouTube which makes it sound as if Kantor is calling people in Indiana “white n*ggers,” it’s a reference to Bush Pere being defeated by Bubba!!!
I wonder who planted this video? Rove? Axelrod, et al? Some freelancer?
Yikes — Boy, do we have to be careful even with the A-List Bloggers!!!
And, thanks for the words of caution, Yes, we’re in the 4th quarter and there’s working the refs, drowning out the quaterback, trash talking, but, now, someone smuggled doctored videotape onto the instant replay screen (well, replay from 16 years ago…
The comments were pretty interesting — some expressed concern than Duncan had gone there, some said it was just what they’d expect of Hillary. I actually wondering if it was an attempt to drive traffice to his site!!!
I worried about the state of the site and the community while reading that.
Oh my.
HRC is being blamed for what might or might not have been said over 15 years ago by someone else?!
Jesus!
I’m boycotting any political “news” until Tuesday.
Thanks Jawbone. Sounds like we can breath a collective sigh of relief…I think. Sometimes the first iteration of these shennanigans drowns out the clarification/denouncement.
My money is on the BO campaign, McCain has nothing to gain from wasting a perfectly good handful of mud on Hillary now when he’ll need it in November.
Original “War Room” cinematographer DA Pennebaker calls it a crock.
… Look out kid
you’re gonna get did
don’t know when
but they’re a-doin’ it again …
Yet another “scandal” bites the dust. Yawn.
Atrios has new post-correction on the Kantor hit piece YouTube video–
We need Rumor Buster!
Here’s MyDD post with some details:
http://www.mydd.com/story/2008/5/2/12402/59569
Then, Politico’s Ben Smith gets quote from Director Pennebaker who denounces the YouTube as doctored:
http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0508/Pennebaker_Clip_Doctoered.html
Damn, it’s getting very muddy in the Intertubes.
Now the big question is who did this and for what reason. Clearly to try to kill Hillary’s momentum in Indiana and NC. But who is so nefarious? Rove or Axelrod? Or freelancer?
Elixir, I like your reasoning.
And Atrios’ 3rd post on this (the second correction) indicates his idea of what the real words were was incorrect.
I haven’t put in the Atrios link bcz I figure folks can just scroll down for the threesome.
I hope he’s learned a good lesson from this. If he hadn’t reacted quickly, his “brand” could be damaged.
Now, I can exhale!
Re the doctored clip, I may have to sneak a peek over at CheetoLand. I’ll bet they were having Obamagasms there for a moment … just curious what the walk-back is gonna look like.
ronkseattle,
Walk back? There won’t be a walkback. They don’t need no stinkin’ walkbacks at the Cheeto place. Did Markos ever walk back his accusation that Hillary darkened Barack’s skin? I don’t think so. They just put the lies out there and let them fester.
UPDATE: It is hilarious over there, with the shallow end of the gene pool still insisting they can hear the words exactly as captioned if they listen to the audio “over and over”, and the cooler heads converging on the theory that this was all a clever trap laid by the Evil Clintons.
Wow, be careful what you order at the Orange Julius. They spike their progressive mix with a lot of crazy. I am so there to read the comments, though.
ORANGE KOOL-AID UPDATE:
“It isn’t necessarily the words: it’s the arrogance behind them.”
Meanwhile, TPM’s Recommended List is now heavily infected, as the real Josh struggles to free himself from ropes and duct tape in somebody’s basement.
RonK
I wonder what happens if they play it backwards?!! Do they hear Hillary by 10 plus points in Indy and at least 5 plus in North Carolina?
