The Clinton Cocktail Party

RicoHi, all! Well, we’ve put South Carolina out of the way. The real fireworks are going to start shortly. I get to vote on SuperDuper Tuesday, do you?

Welcome to the Clinton Cocktail Party, the place in the blogosphere where we hang up our poison pens and pick up a glass in honor of each other and our party. The bar is to the left of the door. Our bartender with flair is Rico. Tonight’s featured drink is a Florida Tracksuit. But if the RedBull is too much for you, you can order something else.

Our entertainment for tonight is Jimmy Buffet for all you Parrot Heads out there. His CD Boats, Beaches, Bars and Ballads pretty much describes Florida to me. You can pick it up at amazon.

“Earth, she’s moving under me”:

Trigger words can really get in the way of dancing so feel free to check them with our lovely check room attendant, Florence. She’s the one with her parrot on her head.

The waiters will be circulating with some tasty conch cocktails and fried plantains. Please drink responsibly and tip your wait staff generously.

  1. Rico, can have a glass of white wine? Do you have any Vernaccia by any chance?

  2. Ladies and gents, I’m headed to a dinner party this evening so my time here will be brief. I’ll be back at 11:00pm. EST. Party on in my absence and try to be good.
And if you can’t be good, be careful. ;-)

  3. I’ll try to keep an eye on the bar, while I keep an eye on the SC returns, while I keep an eye on my work.

Remember, everyone is welcome here. There’s a place for all that primary-season confrontational energy, and that place is out there.

Rico, I’m not a Southern Comfort guy, but this might be a Southern Comfort night. And let’s see what goldberry/riverdaughter left us in the appetizers dept.

  4. Mmmmm, SoCo! Whatever works for Janice works for me.

Freedom’s just another word for nothin’ left to lose . . . in SC, anyway. Florida and 22 other states await! and then we get to my state, where Clinton is WAY ahead, too.

  5. Welcome, CC. I guess I missed the conch cocktails and fried plantains at first glance. Tasty!

We’ve got a caucus coming up Feb. 9, and to everyone’s astonishment, we might matter! (Also to nobody’s astonishment, the caucuses will be chaotic, and every rule will be broken … very creatively in some cases.)

Thought for the day, for Dems all over the map, from Philippians 4:11 — “For I have learned in whatever state I find myself therewith to be content. “

  6. Hey, nice place! Good nice to be a Democrat… with a beer!

  7. amazing, the Goldberry cocktail hour is up at kos too, I must have channeled you. Glad to know where you are. Don’t be a stranger, times are gonna change and we got you first!!! love, anna shane

  8. Hey, how about a Toasted Almond. I ‘d write the recipe but alas, I just drink them, I don’t make them/
I want to toast all the women today who told me how excited they were to caucus for Hillary here in CO. A few were women well into their 80s and I say, “To those who have waited a lifetime for this turn.”

  9. I put my ipod on random and poured myself a TALL glass of CHEAP red wine.

Hey RonK—I am a new Seattle resident, and this whole caucus thing confuses me. Where do I get the scoop?

  10. heartofblue — You will go in confused, and you will come out confused, but there’s lots of good info available.

Do you know what Legislative District you’re in? All LD Democratic organizations will conduct training (you may already have missed it).

Have you figured out who you’re for? Clinton and Obama campaigns conduct caucus training and I assume Edwards does too (you may already have missed it.

Your state party has lots of info & training resources (including online video, you have not missed yet).

And I can recommend a couple threads from our Drinking Liberally mock caucus:

  11. Well, I’m back. What did I miss? Rico, a Ruby Red Absolut OTR, sils vous plait.
I’m so glad to see Anna Shane, RonK, Pacific John and Cream City. I know the Big Orange Satan has a certain irresistable gravitational pull so to see familiar faces is very nice.
I’m not sure Obama wanted to win SC like this. I know there’s a lot of discussion about his diverse demographics but he really pushed hard for this win. Maybe too hard.
We’ll see what Florida says in a few days.

  12. thanks RonK!

  13. Hi Heartofblue! Glad you could make it. I haven’t been to the Pacific Northwest since I was about 8 years old. All I remember about driving through Oregon and Washington was lots and lots of big trees. What is it really like?
